The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might have already been in the public's hands for nearly six months, but gamers continue to unearth hidden gems whilst the exploring the world of Hyrule. Now Reddit user Rangers_Of_The_North is the latest person to stumble upon something.
Whilst scouring for Korok seeds, the player veered into an area near Lake Hylia where they found an interesting glitch allowing you to view Link without his cartoon shader effect. When zooming in on Link you can see the effect that has been lost - showing what an interpretation of the character may have looked like in early development.
Check out the images below to see what removing the effect does:
This glitch can be found on the left side of the gate, across Lake Hylia's bridge, where a broken section of cave resides that is available to enter. Here the discovery was made that strips Link and any weapons of their lighting effects. It's certainly a neat trick, however how long will this remain in the game until Nintendo patches it out is anyone's guess.
What's the most interesting glitch you've seen in Breath of the Wild? Let us know,

PS2 grafix activate!
Hooo...
Looks like a PS1 Tomb Raider title.

Notice the punctuation error I corrected?
I climbed on the inside of a mountain before.

"Hidden gem"? Really
@Cartune Yeah...you should look up how that actually looked friendo...
This is why it would be nice to get a Zelda with realistic texturing sometime again this century. I'll wait.
I found a spot in the game that randomly generates a treasure chest in midair. The chest is at the peak of a mountain and when it falls it tumbles down the side. I was searching for a Korok and the chest nearly knocked me off the cliff. I'll try to post screens later if I get the chance.
One divine beast left. I'm slow
@-DG Mount Drena. One chest with a misplaced spawn. Once it gets too far from you it either despawns then respawns midair or just gets teleported back. Open it and it'll stop.
@-DG
found it too and tried for a long tie to catch them
@Cartune Yes! My thinking exactly lol
There was a Zelda tech demo waaay back. I want to say it was around before the Wii launch, but I might be wrong about that. That image of Link reminds me of that demo.
I found this tech demo for the Wii U, but this isn't what I was remembering. Though, has a similar design.

I bet they want to do a more realistic Zelda but then the higher ups see it and then reject it. Link hasn't been realistic since Twilight Princess and that was a long time, and even then it was on the very cartoony side of realism.
@Daggot Ya, I guess it was that Wii U tech demo because I can't find anything else.
@Daggot There was a Gamecube tech demo or something if I recall of a realistic Zelda. Think was one of the many reasons that fueled hate towards Wind Wakers reveal.
May be remembering wrong though. That was such a long time ago.
@Daggot You're probably thinking about the Zelda tech demo at Spaceworld 2000 where a realistic Zelda was shown off before the eventual Wind Waker reveal. Yes, Link does look similar to that. Also, did you just reply to yourself? XD
@Radbot42 I don't think Zelda and realism go well together. Not because those kinds of games look bad, but I feel fantasy tends to lend itself better to more artistic styles than straight realism.
I mean the best looking game I have ever played is El Shaddai and it still looks breath taking to this day.

GAH he looks like someone took his SOUL. Look at those dead eyes...and the mouth looks super weird that way.
It kinda fits well with the Ocarina of Time clothes up above, but the rest? No thank you. I'm not against a less cell-shaded style in the future - I loved both Twilight Princess AND Windwaker, not either/or - but removal of the filter here is not a good thing in my eyes.
I seen enough amateur Breath of wild 3d hentai using models from the game to know what the other models look like
Funny thing is I found that hole a few months back, didn't bother to report the find.I wonder how many other glitches are found but people don't share them. Only reason I didn't was because I didn't think it was something worth reporting.
Maybe this was on purpose.
Cool, I will check this out.
@XenoShaun the Space World 2000 tech demo. I loved it.
...Really? This has been known for months
@RedYoshi999 yes! That's it. Glad I wasn't just making it up.
So plastic-y looking.
He looks like he was made out of clay. The filter is much better. Although I wish they made his skin a paler shade when he's exposed to bright lights.
Reminds me a bit of the visuals in Wind Waker HD when Toon Link is exposed to light-sources. A very 'plastic'-type look, neat glitch though.
This has been on Reddit for months.
@Jd12345678 Yes, but why would people want to trudge through the sophomoric comments on there just to see this?
Reminds me of a certain Seinfeld episode:
Lighting matters, folks
Wow that's got to be the best sub-headline I've ever seen in a while. Apart from that the folks behind Cemu are considering removing celshading from the entire game. Interesting
LOL, interesting!
Interesting.
REALLY late on this one guys.
@Aaron09 @Cartune So... you really, really want us to know how gaming illiterate you are? Point taken! Pro-tip: sometimes hyperbole just makes you look silly, rather than make a point, but I suspect you don't care much, which is fine.
I definitely prefer the cel-shaded look, too, though.
@Aaron09 @Cartune Sorry. I'm just feeling cranky or something. I'll put away my old-man cane, now, before I smack someone else over the head with it.
@aaronsullivan I wasn't saying it in a bad way, that's just what it reminded me of. Sorry
