Bring on the Wii U ports ( Tropical Freeze, Smash 4 Switch, Super Mario Maker Plus ) and start working on Mario Odyssey 2 and Breath of the Wild 2 for 2019!
Also PLEASE come out with an N64 Classic! The SNES Classic has been one of the best values in gaming I have ever purchased!
Pokemon must be on it's way this year if they expect to sell that many units. If they can get Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and a 2D Mario game out this year, either New SMB or Super Mario Maker, those numbers could definitely become a reality...
Also a funny thing to think about... If they sold over 20 million Switches next year, they would almost be surpassing the Gamecube's lifetime sales in just a single year, since that console only sold a bit under 22 million. The Switch would also just about match the N64's lifetime sales in the combined 2 years on sale. Imagine that.
@Pod Dream Land 2 i so much better than Kirby's Adventure or Dream Land 1. In my case Dream Land 2 was one of the only Kirby games I actually never played, so I played and completed it for the first time just a couple years ago, and I can't even describe how impressed and surprised I was. I never thought a Gameboy Kirby game would be that good.
It's a shame that it's gone, but if the charm has lost it's effect since being discovered, and now needs to be released, than I believe the right thing has been done here. It's also fitting that the Switch is so successful in it's first year. Iwata no longer needs to watch over the company. His final job/task has been a success.
@Pod It's good, but I wouldn't rate it amongst the best Mario games ever. Even as a child I knew it didn't hold a candle to things like Super Mario World or Bros. 3. It's definitely one of the best platformers on the Gameboy for sure though, and you do fight the 3 Little Pigs in Lego Land, so... There's that...
As a side note, I'd give Kirby's Dream Land 2 the title of best Gameboy platformer any day.
@bezerker99 that much is definitely true. When it comes to BotW, people just don't know which timeline it lies in, but whichever it is, it's definitely at the end.
@thesilverbrick I agree with you, it DEFINITELY takes place after Twilight Princess. I mean... There's a cutscene that confirms it. lol. Now that you and @Mopati reminded me of the Triforce wish at the end of Windwaker, and informed me a bit about Spirit Tracks, I'm definitely doubting my theory.
Btw I don't mean to come off as rude or challenging or anything like that. I just think it's fun to talk about things like this since a lot of it is open to interpretation.
I think one of the only things we KNOW for a fact about BotW's timeline is that it is definitely at the END of the Zelda tineline currently.
@Mopati ...I... Forgot about that one! lol. Also I have to admit I've never played Spirit Tracks, ( Only game in the timeline I haven't played. ) so that whole game could also ruin my theory.
I guess if Hyrule was destroyed then it would be pretty tough to place the game after Windwaker, but the idea could still hold. I never said BotW was ONLY after Windwaker. If the timelines were to stabalize all three timelines would just have to be similar enough to run together, so you'd have elements from every timeline. After ten thousand years it is possible, remember there's a huge gap between BotW, and the last Zelda game in any one of the three timelines.
@thesilverbrick Sure Rito and Korok's COULD have popped up in another timeline, but they already have in Windwaker, and yeah there could be many great sea's in the past, but Windwaker has one that covers ine entirety of Hyrule, and Rocksalt is found throughout the entire map of BotW. Also the Master sword being at the bottom of the ocean at the end of Windwaker, just means that the Master Sword was embedded in stone ( Ganon turned to stone ) somewhere in Old Hyrule.
If you think about it... the game could easily be after Windwaker, without any stretch of the imagination to get it there. I still believe the games take place after every timeline though, there's evidence that references every timeline in this game.
@thesilverbrick The problem I have with that cutscene is that it's one of only a few references to that timeline. There are more references to Windwaker honestly, such as Korok's and Rito existing where they have never been seen outside of Windwaker's timeline. Also the appearance of the King of Hyrule is closest to Windwaker's, and the fact that Rock Salt can be found EVERYWHERE in the game and it's item description alludes to the "Great Sea" from... Windwaker. Even the artstyle the game uses for it's character models is closer to Windwaker than anything else.
...That said, I don't think this game fits perfectly into the adult timeline, because the landscape of Hyrule closer matches up with the Downfall timeline, and as you pointed out the Child Timeline is specifically mentioned in a cutscene referencing Twilight.
My theory since I finished the game earlier this year, has always been that Breath of the Wild sits at the very end of the Zelda timeline, where all three timelines have merged back together. There are way too many references to every other game in the series, and I don't think it's too outrageous to think that after Ocarina, after thousands of years the timelines could re-stabilize and merge back together at some point.
@Noonch They both deserve 10's because they both achieved what they set out to do perfectly. If Odyssey deserves a 7 or 8 just solely because your basing it's score on another games score, then almost every other game on the Switch would be deserving of a 4 or a 5 based on the comparison to other AAA games. That would be unfair and that's not how review scores are determined at all.
That said, I also voted for Breath of the Wild as GotY.
@aaronsullivan Ah... Yeah then I'll probably be passing this up. That's the same reason I won't buy Splatoon, as good as that game looks. Local co-op on one screen is a must on my budget.
I probably will get a second Switch towards the end of next year for my wife, so we can both play Pokemon and as a way to just get another two joycons. I just don't see myself also buying games twice. ( Outside of Pokemon ) Unless there was some massive sale like the Hunble Bundle sales.
If it's local co-op then this might be my very first farming sim game... I've never been interested by the genre, but if I can sit down, relax, and play this with my wife then I'm willing to give it a try.
I have more downloaded virtual titles on this thing then on the DSi, Wii, Wii U, and Switch conbined. Party due to being an ambassador, but also because there were just so many great eShop games on this thing.
@rjejr I'd be happy with a Gamecube VC, since I doubt many GC games will be getting remasters anytime soon. We already had Windwaker HD and TPHD. The best we could hope for is a new Luigi's Mansion and an HD Metroid Prime Trilogy.
Also I agree with you that 3DS-like sales should be the bar, and Wii-like sales should be the end goal, but that doesn't change the fact that it's fun to watch the Switch zoom past other consoles on the way there.
( Probably a stupid Question: If I play a Wii game like MP:Trilogy on my Wii U, or if I download a Wii VC game and play it on Wii U, does it display in HD or SD? I've never tried this since I still have my Wii hooked up... )
For anyone with the Champion's Ballad DLC, did you know that each Champion now has a hidden diary in their hometowns? Go check them out! The game tells you about them if you visit the Divine Beasts a few extra times after beating the Champion's Ballad DLC. Also the members of each tribe that were closest to the champions have new stories to tell you about each one. Plus after the DLC you can talk to Kass in Rito Villiage and he has one final song to play for you. Lots of cool extra diolog just hidden in the game if you care to find it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE but... How can 3D Land not be truly 3D. 3D is in the title... and it's on the 3DS... and the game is in LITERAL 3D when the 3D slider is turned up. It's playstyle is more like the 2D games, sure, but 3D Land was definitely the first true 3D Mario game on a portable, and that definitely contributed to it's sales.
I think Odyssey's sales moreso have to do with it's awesome marketing, and just the fact that it is an awesome game, in a playstyle a lot of people forgot that they wanted back until now. Then there's the obvious fact that Odyssey released in time for the Holiday rush during the Switch's first year on sale. That's helping tremendously.
@StuTwo No doubt it will. I'm hoping for NES-like numbers for the Switch in the end, but I could see it even surpassing the 3DS if they play their cards right... Moving over their big hitting portable series' like Animal Crossing and Pokemon should do the trick...
@rjejr Next year's prediction: All the articles will be about Switch passing the lifetime sales of the Gamecube within it's second year. Calling it now.
I'm personally excited to to see the console zoom past the Wii U and I'm interested in seeing how long it takes to pass the other milestone sales numbers set by previous consoles. It's just fun to keep track of after the last 5 years being what they were.
Use the same engine as Breath of the Wild so we don't have to wait 5+ years for the next game! Then clean the slate and come up with something completely new for the Switch successor's launch. ( Think OoT > Majora and how that quick turn around allowed them to develop Windwaker early in the GC life cycle )
With that said though, I'd like a bit more structure, but keep the game as open as possible. Give us classic weapons! Even if they break it's better to have them as alternative ways to solve puzzles IF you have them at the time, then to not have them at all. I'd love to see the Hookshot, Slingshot, Deku Nuts and Sticks, Bombchus, Iron Boots, Diving Scales, Ball and Chain... hell... LINK'S CROSSBOW!! I'd love to see these items repurposed for Breath of the Wild's playstyle!
@EverythingAmiibo Yep! I checked again when I got home today and the more common items fill the tank the most. Apples and Rock Salt is exactly what I've been using! lol.
The bike is a lot of fun, but I wish it was a bit... better? More speed, better uphill traction, higher jumps, more tricks. I was just expecting a bit more in every aspect. Still awesome though!
@SM4SHshorts Oh geeze! I didn't mean to try and give you extra work! lol. Sorry about that...
I guess I should probably contribute to the topic here: I'd recommend trying to race up or down Death Mountain; or try using the Master Cycle to help track down all the boss monsters Keaton askes you to find!
Btw I just though of something... Has anyone tried using Stasis on the Master Cycle? Does that work?
@SM4SHshorts I'll double check, but I swear more the more common items filled the tank more. For instance, of all the ancient items, ancient screws filled the tank the most and ancient cores filed it the least.
I definitely agree with you though if you've already gotten everything in tbe game then there's no reason not to use what you have, but at the same time I'd hate to need another Ancient Bow or shield and not have a Giant Ancient Core to make one since I used it to fill the gas tank, lol. Those can be a pain to find.
@onex Ancient materials only drop when you defeat guardians... So if you take a lot of them out then yeah you'll have a lot of them, but I wouldn't recommend using them since you need a lot of them to create and buy ancient gear. At the very least don't use your ancient cores... Those things are super rare.
I would NOT recommend feeding the Master Cycle any ancient drops the way the article suggests. The most common materials fill up the gauge the fastest. 5 apples will give you half a tank. Somewhere on Satori mountain you can easily get 100 apples just by chopping down the trees in that area and there are two axes laying there to do it.
The SNES Classic is awesome and a huge value for the asking price. I've been playing FFIII for the first time and it's probably my favorite Final Fantasy game...
I still need to find an NES Classic, so I'll be on the lookout next year. If they do end up making an N64 Classic I would love to see Bomberman 64 and Goemon's Great Adventure make the cut. Those games are multiplayer gold...
@rjejr Yeah, these Kingdom's were very underwhelming... and easy. The final Moon challenge had so many hearts in it that it was almost impossible to fail of you were good enough to get there in the first place.
Even so, this game was amazing, I just wanted a tougher final challenge I think.
@rjejr "Throw something metal at him"? Do you mean during the boss fight within Urbosa's Divine Beast? Because I fought that boss multiple times in my playthroughs and never got that message... It woulf have been super useful if I did though because that was definitely the hardest boss in the game for me!
2018 already looks great, and if they somehow manage to get Metroid, Pokemon, Smash Bros. and Animal Crossing out next year, I feel like Nintendo could easily dominate 2018 as well.
Personally I'm just looking forward to the Megaman and Street Fighter collections, as well as the new Kirby game, and hoping that maybe I can catch up and get a few of the games I missed from 2017. All I have right now is Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8.
@SimplyCinnamon53 If you mean the fork people over the lava, ( Only ones I remember right now. ) you can actually fly right over them with Glidon. Just shake the joycons and catch all the updrafts, you should be able to skip them and get right into the green pipe that leads to the second half of that stage.
If you want to do it the intended way, use your homing ability with cappy by shaking the joycon after throwing him at your target.
Also if you aren't using the Joycon for this game, you should, the motion control gives you a ton of extra versatility and on this stage specifically you can skip that whole platform maze type section with a downward cappy throw > homing attack.
Honestly the game was already worth twice the price as it was. So I'm not too upset that I spent an extra $20 for a few extra hours of gameplay. I'm almost done with it and should hopefully have the motorcycle to mess around with tonight!
@SimplyCinnamon53 Oh I got them all two weeks in, lol. There were a couple moons that were tough but as a whole the game was still pretty easy in my eyes. Not that that's a bad thing! I just felt like other Mario games had tougher 100% challenges. ( Looking at you Champion's Road... )
@PorllM Yeah... Luckily I 100% completed the game two weeks in, ( Couldn't put the game down honestly ) but it is a little disappointing that NLife is going about the walkthrough this way. They could have easily said "Mario Odyssey Walkthrough Cont." with a spoiler tag on there so that people don't see the image right on the front page.
The Moon Kingdome was honestly a bit of a letdown for me. Don't get me wrong the game is amazing. I just wished the Moon Kingdom was more challenging or something.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Welcome back! Glad you finally picked up a Wii U 2, I mean uh... Switch!
Looking forward to the Switch surpassing the Wii U. As much as I personally loved that console, and am still using it almost daily, it would be an incredible milestone to see the Switch surpass it in it's first year.
@EvilRegal Seriously, I agree 100% Capcom is making a big comeback next year. Next year we will have every classic Megaman, and every classic Street Fighter game, all available on any one console. That is amazing... The only thing they could do now to make me even more excited is to announce a Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Zero Collection on consoles...

@rjejr "Throw something metal at him"? Do you mean during the boss fight within Urbosa's Divine Beast? Because I fought that boss multiple times in my playthroughs and never got that message... It woulf have been super useful if I did though because that was definitely the hardest boss in the game for me!
Re: Switch Continues To Soar As It Sells Over 55K In South Korea In Just Three Days
Re: VS. Super Mario Bros. is Jumping Onto the Switch eShop Next Week
@lillith Yes... Yes it is...
I'm interested in this game. Not sure if I'm interested enough to buy it yet though.
Re: Reminder: Time is Running Out to Get the Pre-Purchase Discount on Mutant Mudds Collection
I get paid the day after the discount ends. I'll probabky buy this at full price sometime anyway though.
Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Moon Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough
Re: DLC Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Champions' Ballad + Expansion Pass
Honestly the game was already worth twice the price as it was. So I'm not too upset that I spent an extra $20 for a few extra hours of gameplay. I'm almost done with it and should hopefully have the motorcycle to mess around with tonight!
Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Moon Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough
@SimplyCinnamon53 Oh I got them all two weeks in, lol. There were a couple moons that were tough but as a whole the game was still pretty easy in my eyes. Not that that's a bad thing! I just felt like other Mario games had tougher 100% challenges. ( Looking at you Champion's Road... )
Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Moon Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough
Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Moon Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough
The Moon Kingdome was honestly a bit of a letdown for me. Don't get me wrong the game is amazing. I just wished the Moon Kingdom was more challenging or something.
Re: Nintendo Switch Reaches 10 Million Global Sales In Its First Nine Months
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Welcome back! Glad you finally picked up a Wii U 2, I mean uh... Switch!
Looking forward to the Switch surpassing the Wii U. As much as I personally loved that console, and am still using it almost daily, it would be an incredible milestone to see the Switch surpass it in it's first year.
Re: Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection Rumbles Onto Switch May 2018
@EvilRegal Seriously, I agree 100% Capcom is making a big comeback next year. Next year we will have every classic Megaman, and every classic Street Fighter game, all available on any one console. That is amazing... The only thing they could do now to make me even more excited is to announce a Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Zero Collection on consoles...
