Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st January)

Still playing FE: Three Houses. I think I'm at the last battle of my golden deer playthrough. Already planning to replay black eagles on hard (or an even harder option?) and classic, but probably won't handle anyone perma dying... But I'm also hoping for a sale soon to try something new.

I had the intention to continue Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but with such a long break and 100 hours in it was just too confusing and I barely remember what's going on unfortunately. So I picked up my third playthrough of Fire Emblem three houses instead, much easier to come back to. Alternating with Octopath Traveler 0, Patapon, AI: the somnium files, and Cast n Chill with my partner 🎣

Happy new year! I'm back commenting here after some years (though have still been reading almost every day). This year I'm excited for the new Fire Emblem and hopefully another Pikmin. Also would like to get into the Trails series and back to some unfinished games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Paper Mario the thousand year door.

Re: Random: Artwork In Retro Japanese Magazine Depicts Link As A Female

Chimaj

Hello, I've recieved some comments on what I wrote 3 years ago and wanted to respond and try to clarify.
My point is that in some cases it's as if portraying a woman can only be done by, or is only interesting if showing the body in a sexual way - ass, legs, boobs, in tiny clothing, showing underwear - and sometimes with a perplexed expression in her face. This is objectifying.
As the article says, the magazine made a mistake to portray Link as a woman instead, but why make these exposed images of a female version of Link in this type of magazine (which I assume is just a regular magazine)? Would they have portrayed Link as a male in the same way? How would you react to that? Would it seem appropriate here?
Sure, this magazine is old and we've come a long way since, but I still see women portrayed like this in unnecessary contexts. I understand that in a fantasy world you want to fantasize, but in this particular case the idea was not to sexualize Link, right? It was just to make him as female. Is this what it means to be a woman? Role models are important, it doesn't matter if they're "real" or not.

I've started going through my backlog of half finished games and have now finished Pokémon Shield, Ys VIII and Night in the Woods. This week end I'm playing Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch.
I've also downloaded Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy to play together with my mother next week when I'll visit her.
