Yet another week has been and gone, and this one brought the anniversary of the Paper Mario series, stories of legendary industry figures smoking in the dark recesses of the office, yet more pleasant words about Nintendo from Xbox's boss, and--surely the biggest story of the week--the mysterious disappearance of Mario's nipples.
Members of Nintendo Life have recounted their plans for this weekend below, and we'd love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections. Enjoy!

I'm currently on a working holiday, meaning I'm continuing as normal, except I'm breathing fresh mountain air instead of stale office oxygen, and my WiFi is approximately one-quarter the speed I'm used to.

I packed my trusty Switch, of course, although I also through 4 AAs, my Game Boy and a handful of classics in my case, so hopefully I'll get a chance to blast through Donkey Kong, Gargoyle's Quest and play some more Mole Mania, too. As you can see, I am constantly at the very bleeding edge of gaming, me.

Over the next few days I’m hoping to finish up the absolutely delightful Paper Mario: The Origami King which I’ve been plodding through slowly with my kids in the evenings, definitely one of my favourite Mario games in quite a long while, that one. Elsewhere I’ll be blasting through Minecraft Dungeons' Jungle Awakens DLC in preparation for next month’s Creeping Winter content and, if I get time, finishing off Carrion, which I’ve also really been enjoying. There’s just something about slithering up to a room full of terrified humans, observing their futile attempts to hide or prepare pathetic defences, then sweeping in for a gory kill that really relaxes me. Know what I mean? Have a good weekend everyone!

This weekend... is fairly similar to most weekends of late, to be quite honest. I've been stuck in this rut where I keep jumping around to different games in my backlog - Paper Mario: The Origami King, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, and even older titles and DLC like Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Shield... As always, I'm having difficulty focusing on just one game and completing it, and then I end up feeling overwhelmed and just play Animal Crossing or go korok hunting in Breath of the Wild. If anyone has suggestions to put an end to this video game ADHD, throw them in the comments below - I'm desperate.

Over the past week, I've really found myself getting back into a lot of id Software games, probably because QuakeCon aired last weekend and there were a number of sales on the Switch eShop. As a result, most of my weekend will be spent in DOOM, DOOM II, the DOOM reboot, DOOM 64, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
When I'm not in any of these games, I intend to spend some time cleaning up my town in Animal Crossing - it's got so messy! Apart from this, I might try and unlock some of the themes I missed out on in the latest limited-time Tetris 99 event.
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave a vote in the poll above and a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

Trying to get through the rest of Little Busters! but I keep getting distracted by Volta-X. It's a lot of fun.
Finally, last week i completed the Xenoblade chronicles DE and future connected. Now, will start up with Xenoblade chronicles 2. Another huge time to be consumed.
Rex is killed, but revived by a legendary BLADE named PYRA on the promise of taking her to ELYSIUM, a fabled paradise at the top of the WORLD TREE. Together with other DRIVERS and BLADES, the duo, caught in a war between countries, attempts to reach the World Tree, while being chased by TORNA, an elusive faction seeking to capture Pyra.
So far it's great..
Edit: quick question, from the both Xenoblade chronicles 1&2 which do you consider the best? It's like i will go with the Xenoblade chronicles 1 personally.
Psyvariar delta and
caladrius blaze and danmaku unlimited 3!
Still working my way through Ys Oath in Felghana on PSP - it’s whetting my appetite for when Ys IX finally comes to Switch. Falcom must be one of my favourite developers.
I’m also hoping at some point this weekend to dip back into Carrion and maybe even The Outer Worlds (both thanks to Game Pass PC).
I'm currently bouncing between Torchlight 2 and Crysis Remastered. I have Borderlands next up in the que.
I've taken a break from ACNH not touched it since Thursday. 200 hours in and the daily activities are becoming bothersome. I've been butchering in Skyrim and hunting Elk in Hunting Simulator. Probably more Skyrim today and some Konami Arcade and Pinball FX.
Best Catherine Full Body last weekend and not ready for another play through so back to The Witcher 3 after a few months off. Such a stressful game, makes me yearn for Animal Crossing again 😂
Three Houses (Black Eagles) and Danganronpa.
This week I will be mostly playing
Mario & Rabbids (DLC / post-game content)
Picked up hard copy of zombie army trilogy for £19 so will probably give that a go.
I've started going through my backlog of half finished games and have now finished Pokémon Shield, Ys VIII and Night in the Woods. This week end I'm playing Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch.
I've also downloaded Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy to play together with my mother next week when I'll visit her.
Persona 5 Royal, Doom 64 and FE Awakening for me this weekend. Don’t know why I waited so long to get Doom 64!
As I predicted last week I’m still playing Persona 5 and Soul Hackers.
I might be nearing the end this week on both though now.
I am continuing Octopath Traveler and currently playing the chapter 2 of Therion. Also playing Ys VIII, which I am liking so far.
Nier: Automata
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Undertale
All fantastic games!
Animal Crossing New Horizons for more than 335 hours gameplay within 7 weeks in a row. 😀

Well, my island has been terraformed nicely. Just only some maintenances on some areas (weeding, scooping over populated flowers) and fruit harvesting when my cash is low.
Still did Time Travel all the time.
Recently have collected all Ice stuffs after jumped on December 2020.
I wonder which month should i jump on for next time travelling...
We're camping this weekend, so not a lot of gaming, but I'm still playing Friends of Mineral Town when I have some quiet time. I still love this game. It's just absolute perfection.
Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered will be my main focus, got it in an eshop sale last month. Plays really well on Switch since they patched it btw.
From my window the only green I can see is 1 lonely bush so I can't wait to run through the forest and sneak attacking redcoats!
More Ghost of Tsushima, but also made a start on Ori & the Blind Forest. Both are very very good!
Dragon Quest XI and Megaman X4 for me this weekend. Hopefully I can beat sigma's 3rd form
I have just beaten Origami King and have to say it was pretty good! Had some friends over for Smash, Mario Kart Wii and playing some retro Mario Party. Great fun was had by all!
Currently playing Night in the Woods, and have been bouncing all over games lately.... frickin gamer ADHD I swear.....
Probably gonna focus on this, Project Highrise and maybe some Vampyr, Skyrim, or Crosscode.... haven’t decided yet.
FF14 on PS4, would be dope if they brought that to switch!
Tetris 99 and more Pikmin 3 for me on Switch...
Forza 3 Horizon and Nascar Heat 5 on Xbox...
Right now it's just been Volta-X for me.
Animal Crossing New Horizons. Almost finished game one of the Spyro trilogy. Quell Memento and Quell Zen.
Happy gaming everyone!
Hollow Knight whilst awaiting the Indie showcase this week releasing Silksong 👍
Ahhh Gargoyle's Quest, what a lovely game.
This week I've finished up the last new single player game in my backlog that I've really been intending to beat: Dandara. I was surprised at how awesome this metroidvania was. There's no gravity in the game, so the only way you can move is by jumping between spots on the floor, walls and ceiling that are covered in salt. The game kind of autoaims these jumps for you so the movement never gets cumbersome. All I have to say is that each area is really thoughtfully designed and the game is just a blast to explore.
So finally, I have a weekend where I don't feel inclined to try and beat something new. I started Snooker 19 last night after picking it up on sale last week, so I'm going to tinker with it, since I've always wanted to learn how to play Snooker. It's quite enjoyable so far. I may also start up Chess Ultra for some chill sessions. This weekend is all about relaxing for me.
My buddy works at Hi-Rez and got me a code for Rogue Company 😁 So I'll be smashing that out this weekend. S'been pretty good so far!
I just finished Paper Mario: The Origami King. Great game, 9/10!
This weekend I will travel, so I'm bringing my Switch Lite with Undertale and Final Fantasy IX.
Fall guys on PS4.
Currently Playing, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and the Original Animal Crossing on the Gamecube.
I'm spending this weekend camping, so I doubt there will be any time for video games. Having said that however, I did pack up my 3DS and brought Super Mario 3D Land and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, on the off chance I can get an hour nor so of gaming in.
does anyone know you can get alot of qubic games for free right now if you download color book, I know its dumb to say it but nintendo life didn't say anything, whats what i'm playing this week.
Galaga 88 with my Hori Hayabusa Stick.
Super Mario 3d world with the family.
4 player craziness
Keep playing Ni No Kuni. Almost 13h in a loving it!
Also thinking to get Diablo 3, what do you guys think? Is still active online after all this time?
Resident Evil: Revelations 2, getting into 'raid mode'
@Hellaween Well, Square really wants to bring it over to the Switch, but only if they can make it cross-platform, so the Switch users ca play with PC and Playstation user, but Sony are really slow when it comes to cross-platform, games.
As for me, I'm playing Crysis Remastered this weekend.
@Cevil as it unfolds i am seeing more and more to believe that 2 may just turn out to be better action/character build wise. Just because i recently completed the previous entry made me say that about my preference.
Smash Ultimate, chipping away at getting all spirits. Only about 300 left.
Also Disgaea 5 which I got this morning. I’ve really craved some SRPG recently.
@Big_Fudge the story from the first really hooked me. Well, from what i am seeing as i playthrough, maybe 2 have more to it than i expected.
Oh, you KNOW what I'll be doing this weekend. It's the same as every other weekend
PERSONA!
@Big_Fudge ahem
Persona 5 Royal would like to have a chat with you.
Also, I found an absolute gem on the SNES classic called Contra III: The Alien Wars. It's just a basic shoot em up, but it's so good
I've pretty much finished all my Switch games (and I've bought everything I'm interested in). Waiting for Silksong, Cuphead DLC, Pikmin 3, and fingers crossed Dark Souls 2 🙂
I finally opened my Asia import of Bayonetta 1&2. I'd left it so long I felt bad opening the plastic rapper.
After finishing Trials of Mana I got back to the Switcher. But instead of getting into the main story I’ve been sidetracked by Geralt’s passion for Gwent.
That stupid card game is so addictive!
I started horizon chase turbo and earthbound this week.
I got Doom64 for free cause I had so many good coins (didn't know you could pay for whole games like that!), so I've been playing that a bunch. Much different feel to it, but I'm liking it so far! Other than that, still going through DQ11
As it's Mario's 35th anniversary this year, I've been doing a complete sort of in universe chronological play through of the series (which I'm mostly assuming release order == chronological order except for the Yoshi's Island games which I did first). I even split the games into parts (mostly by consoles) and gave each part a name. I've made good headway. I'm already at Super Mario RPG! Played about halfway through it last night, and I'm starting from Star Hill today. The games I'm most excited about replaying are all the Mario and Luigi games (which I've only played once each), especially Bowser's Inside Story. I'm also excited about replaying Sticker Star, believe it or not. I only played through it once before also, and I don't remember that much about the middle and later parts of the game. Color Splash, Origami King, and Paper Jam will be entirely new to me as I've never played them before.

@Divinebovine Doom 64 is the best Doom in my opinion. It looks and feels more modern than classic Doom while still retaining that classic style. I enjoyed it more than 2016 and Eternal even. Have fun with it, and be sure to seek out the demon keys to power the Unmaker!
I finally broke down and bought a third party wireless Hyperkin N64 controller after reading the reviews and I’m loving it. It has made me fiendishly excited to revisit old N64 games and I’ll be working on Banjo Tooie and Diddy Kong Racing a bit this weekend. And to keep the Rare theme going, I also am revisiting Star Fox Adventures. It’s woefully linear and not very mechanically exciting, but it’s aesthetically pleasing, and I still think it’s one of the prettiest games on the GameCube, plus the voice acting and dialogue are so hilariously cheesy.
Finishing Ghost of Tsushima, getting all trophies. Never done that on any PS game before.Such a fantastic game can't wait for NG+ to be released at some point. Just bought Borderlands on Switch and will start that too. I've also got a backlog to work through at some point 😅
I'll say it again it's times like these the capabilities of the Switch really kick ass. Why? Because PLAYOFF HOCKEY is really starting to get intense and it's only round 1. So awesome to be playing games docked and in a matter of seconds 'switch' to handheld and/or table top to watch the game. Also makes intermission go a lot faster! I generally play Monster Hunter Gen Ultimate or Tetris 99 if it's not my team playing. If my team is playing (Go Knights!) gaming is limited to intermission which Tetris 99 is perfect for (although sometimes it can be challenging if I'm many beers deep).
So today at 5pm:
Round 1, Game 3: Vegas Golden Knights vs Chicago Blackhawks
(VGK leads 2-0)
For real I just got mario kart 8 this week so i'm playing the heck out of that a hell of fun.
Chipping away at Persona Q2... just started the 4th dungeon.
Also really enjoying Deadly Premonitions 2.
@Farts_Ahoy Persona Q2 would've been a nearly perfect game if it had 3D... I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't get why the first PQ has 3D visuals, and the second doesn't... I can't be the only one that loves that 3D. As for DP2, has it been patched already? If so, is the framerate any better? Do you HAVE to shoot squirrels and dogs?
I'll probably go for another 100% run of Carrion, the fifth or sixth one, and some levels of Zombie Night Terror, a fun puzzle game that makes me appreciate cool pixel art black and white animations even more, and makes me appreciate almost every other somewhat modern game in existence for simply having checkpoints or quick saves...
Have finished Caslevania Circle of the Moon on GBA and have moved onto Rayman 3, it's ok so far but hoping it will get better.
Also playing Sonic Forces on PS4 and I think it's a decent Sonic game, although get the feeling it's going to be short.
I got myself West Of Loathing yesterday, so will probably be getting into that a bit. In between the snooker sessions. Might go for a pint later too 👍
@Giygas_95 WHOA that's quite a list you've got to go through there! Awesome.
Seems like as you get further down the games are going to get longer but great idea.
I wrapped up Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition this past week (Awesome ending!) and decided I need a bit of a palate cleanser before tackling Future Connected. To that end, I've started playing through The Wonderful 101 Remastered on the Switch. I'm...not entirely sure what to think of it yet. It's chaotic, flashy, has some entertaining writing, and unique ideas, but I'm not quite onboard with the controls yet. I'm enjoying it enough that I'll keep at it for now lol.
As usual, some Pokemon Go will be played this weekend, now that the Unova event week has rolled around.
Happy gaming! Stay safe!
Starting Ni No Kuni on Switch and binging Ghost of Tsushima on PS4. What a time to be alive.
Gonna be playing some more of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I'm gonna work on my island a little more, and if I'm lucky enough I can get some new fish/bugs for the museum. I'll also play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there are those tournaments going on that Nintendo's hosting this weekend. (For NA, anyway)
Axiom Verge. Late to the party on this and thoroughly enjoying it. Doesn’t seem to do anything new but nails the atmosphere, aesthetic and overall Metroid-like experience.
Mostly wonderful 101R and little bits of data east games like night slashers and caveman ninja. Might also play some legend of the river king
@Big_Fudge ah, so which one do you think is the best Persona game? Personally, I've only played P5, Royal, and Q2. But yeah, each to their own I suppose
@wazlon Yeah, the first part I've sped through pretty fast. The parts with more RPGs and 3D platformers are gonna take a while.
Just bought the Neo Geo Pocket games of Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters so I’ll be playing those. Still messing around with Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem Three Houses.
I beat Carrion, which was a helluva lot more entertaining than I expected. I got Strikey Sisters on sale and have been playing that since off work. I need to beat Tales of Vesperia as a valid reason to finally buy Cross Code. Looks like Damon’s Tilt is on sale, and I’m considering getting Hammerwatch/Heroes.
DKC on SNES NS Online, Rygar on NES NS Online and still playing Astral Chain. Love the game, but each case file is sooooo long.
Gothic 2 Gold on PC. buahahaha
Still chipping away at Paper Mario TOK. My backlog has been growing substantially because of all these sales 😅.
Also playing Observation via Gamepass which has been interesting.
Happy weekend all!
Gonna rock the AVENGERS beta again this weekend. Will probably continue on BP MADELYN. Might get some rounds in on ROGUE COMPANY.
@Big_Fudge ah, I gotcha. People say 4 was dark, but I also think 5 is dark. Like, a literal child rapist and hitman were in the game. But I get what you mean about the repetitive bits, that's kinda part of why I liked Q2 so much.
I'm nearing the end of Act 1 in Divinity 2...
Other than that Animal Crossing, of course
1. Avengers Beta
2. Othecide
3. F1 2020 (F1 Spain weekend 🏎)
Waiting for Captain Tsubasa on Switch.
I'm playing little nemo the dream master on Nes
@Giygas_95 Holy crap, that's impressive! I love Doom 64, especially on Switch. It looks and plays incredible!
@Shambo Deadly Framerate 2 has been patched. It used to run from approximately 4fpr to 25fps and now runs from approximately 14fps to 30fps with very erratic frametimes. It's better, but whew!
Back to XB1, the MCC challenges work now so I'm playing through a bunch of Halo CE levels as I hadn't made any progress in that game's playlists. I already got the 50 points for the Animal Crossing theme in Tetris 99 so if I do go back to my Switch this weekend, I'll be continuing with DQXIS.
I'm always playing Rocket League (bought rocket pass and wow it unlocked a bunch of stuff I'd been building up without knowing it, pretty cool), Animal Crossing New Horizons, Kingdom New Lands (don't think I'll ever get tired of this along with Kingdom Two Crowns, which is better but takes longer to load so I don't play it as much), Breath of the Wild, Jump Rope Challenge, and the absolutely perfect Super Mario Maker 2. I'm also enjoying We Are Doomed, Sayonara Wild Hearts (one of the most refined game experiences I've ever encountered, so fun!), Burnout Paradise, Rush Rally 3, Super Space Snake (the snake game in Timesplitters 2 is the best snake game I've ever played, but I don't have that game anymore...), Ghost of Tsushima, Tekken 7 or 8 or whatever it is (should arrive soon, was only $11!)(I wish Soul Calibur, Tekken, and a Ridge Racer game were all on Switch!), and I'll be kayaking, longboarding, and visiting a patient and friend this weekend.
@60frames-please Well, that sounds a lot less a deal- or game breaker already... I'll probably get it when the price equals the average FPS, I'll go for New Super Lucky's Tale first then, seems like stress-free fun, made with plenty of care.
While I'm still far from done with Xenoblade Chronicles DE, I got a good deal on Astral Chain and I'm so enjoying it! It's pure platinum action and way more action then I thought it'd be! With some AC:NH and Fall Guys(!) on the side, it's a great weekend for gaming again!
@Rpg-lover Personally, as opposed to the others who have replied to you, I think XBC1 is far and away a more masterfully written story with more enjoyable character relationships, and with every "arc" tying directly into the bigger picture of its magnificent conclusion. I enjoyed the combat of 2, for sure, but it wasn't enough to become more memorable than 1, in my opinion.
I took a break but I'm getting back to FFVII. I swear it's so hard to do RPGs these days.
Finishing Chrono Trigger DS, Spongebob BFBB
@Lynox Where did you find a good deal on Astral Chain? I am interested in that game but considering I don't usually enjoy Platinum games, I'm not looking to spend too much to try it out.
@Tailesque my thoughts as well based on completing the Xenoblade chronicles 1, well, i haven't fully immense myself in the Xenoblade chronicles 2 story yet(15hrs in), however, the combat is better than that of 1.
@sketchturner Got it used for €30,- Pretty good if you ask me.
Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl on NES
AM2R on my phone
Tetris & Dr. Mario with my girlfriend
And maybe Mario Sunshine to pi55 off every Switch owner
Just finished Celeste (not the epilogue yet though)
Ac
Neon Abyss
Iconoclasts
And probably moving out or overcooked 2 with my wife 😁
I always bounce around between a lot of games, so I'll be doing that this weekend as usual. On the Switch side of things, I started up Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered after finishing Xenoblade Definitive Edition, and I've really enjoyed that so far! I'm also debating starting up Ys VIII, but I'm not sure if I want to add another game to the list.
As for other systems, I'm almost done with Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS, so I should be finishing that pretty soon. I started up Xenosaga Episode I on PS2 and I'm looking forward to going through that trilogy. I'd also like to get back to Ghost of Tsushima, which is a game I've enjoyed so far, but I was more focused on finishing Xenoblade first. I've also been enjoying Doom 3 on Steam for some good horror/FPS fun.
I suddenly got nostalgic for my army of Miis, so I've been playing Wii U games like NintendoLand, Wii U Party and Mario & Sonic Olympic Games.
@gaga64 I decided to play the Donkey Kong DLC a couple weeks ago after beating the main game in January. I finished it yesterday. IMO, it's better than the main game.
I'm playing Donkey Kong Country. In 1994, I had a Genesis so I only played through a couple worlds with a friend who got it for Christmas.
Hot take #1: It doesn't hold up very well. The music is great but the graphics and gameplay mechanics have aged in a way that the greatest SNES games have not. Some of the levels are still pretty fun though.
Hot take #2: I wasn't that impressed with it when it came out. I was more jealous of other games on the SNES than this one. I remember being more impressed with Sonic 3 and Aladdin.
@Rpg-lover Xenoblade Chronicles X is the best in my opinion. I wish they would port it to switch so I can play it again or make a sequel. The dlc for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 golden torna is my second best.
@Shambo I haven't gotten it or played it yet, just read about it and watched Digital Foundry and Alana Pearce playing it. Sounds like a good plan, when the frame rate and price meet I shall purchase thy game!
Super Lucky's Tale is great. It's fun and pretty much locked at 30fps on Switch (60 on Xbox!).
Way too much Super Kirby Clash
And RBI Baseball 20 ⚾️
Link's Awakening on Switch; OW and Injustice 2 on PS4.
Obscure 2: The aftermath on PSP. Metroid Fusion on my Gameboy Micro. There is nothing new on Switch that I'm interested in so I am digging deep in all my old handhelds.
@rosemo cool!
@Gooberfish sadly, i haven't played Xenoblade chronicles X and will like it to be ported as well. When i am through with XB2 will see what torna(sequel) have to offer..
I’ve been playing Super Robot Wars T and loving it! After reading the reviews y’all posted for Super Robot Wars and Gundam Cross Rays, I ordered both and have been playing them non-stop. As a big Fire Emblem/SRPG fan, this is a dream come true that these have full English translations.
I played and completed Xcom 2 this weekend. My first completed game in a very long time. Will be tackling the 'War of the Chosen' expansion at some point (On a harder difficulty and on iron man mode I might add).
Inbetween Xcom2, I played Super Mario Maker 2, Blasphemous and The Final Station. Trying to get some indie games beaten between larger games.
I totally forgot that Carrion had been coming (let alone, came out already), I so I enjoyed about three playthroughs of said game this weekend. Not at all hard, and backtracking is completely unneccessary to finish the game. The signposting is next level.
Been playing Mr. Driller Drill Land, Catherine Full Body, Akane, and some Into The Breach.
