Last week, the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Three Houses Byleth was announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character and it was also revealed a fourth house would be added to the newest Fire Emblem entry on Switch.
So far, we know the fourth house featured in the fourth Expansion DLC – Cindered Shadows – will be called The Ashen Wolves. As previously stated, it's 'A house in name alone' as it's made up of disenfranchised students in need of guidance, and reside in the Abyss beneath Garreg Mach.
Now, the official Fire Emblem Japanese Twitter account has revealed the characters you'll play as in the side story. It's a fixed crew of both old and new characters and 11 of them all up. This includes Byleth, the existing house leaders (Edelgard, Claude, Dimitri), a representative of each house (Ashe, Linhardt, Hilda) and the four new characters from The Ashen Wolves: Yuri, Constance, Balthus, and Hapi.
Cindered Shadows arrives early next month on 12th February and is included in the $24.99 / £22.99 / €24,99 Expansion Pass. Will you be returning to Fire Emblem when it is released? Comment down below.

Doomguy for Fire Emblem
@Gravitron : Cacodemon for Smash.
Linhardt isn't a house leader (don't think he wants to be either)
"the existing house leaders (Edelgard, Linhardt, Dimitri), a representative of each house (Ashe, Claude, Hilda)" a little mix up I see
Lindhardt, a house leader??
Remember those names everyone because I've heard a rumour that 6 of them will appear in the SSBU fighters pass
Writer must've mixed up Linhardt and Claude..
On a separate note, I'm finding the idea that there exists a group of disenfranchised students happily living their lives in the bowels of the monastery an extremely silly premise, and I wonder how they'll justify it in the lore.
It's really a big shame that most comments on anything to do with this DLC are going to be about the Smash salt.
Such a negative vibe about something very positive. This DLC is a great add-on for an already massive game, and I think it's very welcome.
Hilda & Edelgard on the same side. Wow!
I love this!! I can't wait to play it. Having no calendar and a set crew makes it all the more interesting. Each one of the students has a good reason for going too.
Linhardt is a crest researcher and would be very interested in these new individuals.
Ashe was a former thief. He's the best character to act as a mediator because he knows the struggle of living in secret to survive like the Ashen Wolves. (Pun too!)
Hilda was the one talking about the Abyss in the trailer. She has the most knowledge of it so she has to come.
And in case anyone is wondering about fellow second in commands Dedue and Hubert, Balthus and Hapi fill the roles of tanks and dark magic users already. It would've been redundant.
That being said, I can't wait to play this game for the 8th time to experience a brand new story!!
Linhardt got a promotion he totally does NOT want!
But seriously, how can you write about this game and not know who the house leaders are? I'm sorry, I know there are a lot of characters but someone at NintendoLife played this game, right?
It's Fire Emblem, not Pokemon. There's not that many characters.
Maybe it's just a typo. I've done that.
With that spread of character designs for the new house, it looks like an Etrian Odyssey character class portrait selection.
At first I lol'd at this being the new smash dlc.
@Liam_Doolan might wanna get Linhardt the heck out of the spotlight mate.
Last time I checked he wanted absolutely nothing to do with responsibilities or a leadership position for that matter.
I also don't think Claude appreciates being a mere house representative when he's a house leader in the main campaigns.
@Decapre That's possible in the main campaigns too, just saying.
You CAN recruit her on Crimson Flower.
@Eel OMG! I really want Etrian Odyssey for Switch. I have all the games on the 3ds because I love the series.
Wish Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart got DLC support
This is cool. Hope to get this DLC at some point.
From what I could understand about this DLC is that it is a sidequest, which by the end you add the 4 new characters and go back to the usual story?
Awesome news, seems like the new line up confirms that this is a separate path to your main saves. Fantastic as I just did a route and didn’t want to do a whole other one so close together to play the DLC story
Ashe?? C'mon man, give me Felix or Sylvain. He's a good kid but a terrible unit.
Must be a side quest early on in the story as all 3 leaders take part, definitely before the second half. I am not taking this to be a separate path, just a side quest but would be happy with any extra content. Can't wait.
@Varkster Nothing but positivity so far! I bought Three Houses because of the announcement—I was having trouble choosing between that or Astral Chain—and if I have anything negative to say in regards to Smash DLC... it's that they didn't give female Byleth glasses! 😍
Should be interesting to see how this is when it’s released.
Can't wait for the lore on this one as well as the backstories for the new characters!
... Though before I learn all that, I should probably buy and play the game....
Looking forward to this. Suspended my Black Eagles run until the DLC is out. I'm still early in the game, I'll try to have the DLC students get spotlight too in my playthrough.
I heard you liked Edgegard let's give you more ede we present to you House Edge.
Lindhardt is the football equivalent of the field goal kicker. I do appreciate those heals though.
@SmileMan64 I thought about suspending my run too, but Im having too much fun.
@TheBigK
You already have Yuri who mains swords and Dimitri who handles lances. Ashe is your archer.
@Varkster I'm not really that salty about the Smash thing I just knew the jokes were inevitable. Weird one to end it on though. If they would've announced Banjo last it probably would've been way better for Western reception. But that's only in the west I'm sure Japan was way more thrilled by Byleth
What is unclear about this DLC is whether you can play the whole campaign with this 4th House or whether their story is a long side quest.
