Aksys Games has revealed that it is bringing Langrisser Re:Incarnation Tensei to North America in Spring of next year.
The turn-based strategy title is a reboot of the famous Langrisser series, which began life on the Sega Mega Drive many years ago. Developed by Extreme and Masaya, the 3DS release had a somewhat muted reception when it launched in Japan earlier this year.
According to Aksys, the game will showcase "branching story paths with different outcomes depending on your choices". There are three factions to fight as, and over 100 hours of gameplay.

I'll always take another turn-based game, and I was interested enough in this one to rake notice when it came out in Japan. Feels almost like a Vita game.
I'd have preferred to see the characters designed by Urushihara, but hey, it still looks like an interesting game, so I'll hold out for an EU release confirmation.
@Vineleaf
One hour of Langrisser Re:incarnation Tensei gameplay.

If this isn't bad enough to turn you off, congratulations.
Turn-based game like Fire Emblem? Sure I'm interested.
@Kaze_Memaryu Wasn't he the one who bankrupted an entire animation studio with Front Innocent?
I remember that and thinking that the OVA was beautifully animated.
@TheWPCTraveler
LOL on that gameplay.
Why does this game exist? Bruh, Fates beat you to it. It does everything better and added face touching and baths.
Just you wait and see. This is the only RPG out of the ones currently coming out - like Stella Glow and Legend of Legacy - that I actually want to play, and THIS will be the one that won't come to Europe.
@TheWPCTraveler ... Never mind.
Game looks like a dumpster fire. Poor Aksys, they must be bored.
@TheWPCTraveler Front Innocent was a lot of other things, too - most of which we can't publish here...
definitely interested in this game and glad it's coming out
Fingers crossed for European release now!!!!
@Damo Are you talking about the game or Urushihara?
The response to the game is justified, from what I've seen. Blackouts (of the abrupt kind) during screen changes, super-chibi characters in-battle, that simplified gameplay...
And for Urushihara, I stand by how great I think his art is. Not enough people draw like it's the 90s nowadays. (Yes, I know the studio or a lot of his work isn't...safe for work, like, at all.)
EDIT: Oops, you were talking about Front Innocent. I watched it for the plot and the art, I swear! :^)
@TheWPCTraveler I was talking about Front / Lady Innocent, and his adult work in general.
He's one of the most talented artists around and I've adored his art ever since seeing it for the first time in Warsong / Langrisser. But I find it a shame that the only way he seems able to make a living these days is drawing hardcore smut - it's a waste of his talents (unless of course he prefers producing that kind of material, in which case there's little point in complaining).
@Damo There are people who actually prefer doing that, though, so there's that.
I discovered how good Urushihara really was when I stumbled upon a group of people talking about the new Langrisser. It was on the verge of becoming a porn dump before people started actually posting on-topic about the game itself, and the 1-hour gameplay video was thrown into the thread.
I wonder what could've happened to Front Innocent had it been more successful, though. Sort of like how Sengoku Rance is a fantastic game that people overlook because it has porn in it.
@KO-Cub Wasn't that getting replaced with a character trivia game over here? I remember hearing one of the podcasts with 8-4 saying that they would.
the only way to play this game is with battle animations off, it looks like garbage
@BRAINFOX - Really? Serenes have said nothing of it. And they're all over dat stuff.
@TheWPCTraveler Thanks for that video. Of nothing else the animation looks funny. If the price is right I'll give it a spin.
What, Urushihara didn't do the art for this one?
Ugh.
The guy's style is too pretty to be wasted on hentai. I want to see it in more games.
Sweet! Glad I resisted the urge to import!
Will admit, that game does look pretty bad, but I will still pick it up. I am a big Warsong fan. I will admit I think I would of preferred old school Langrisser graphics to these 3d battlefields that look like elementary school level programmers playing with programming tools.
@TheWPCTraveler I belive that wasn't entirely his fault, but yes, that very Urushihara. A great artist with way too few opportunities to show his talent.
If I remember correctly, he isn't really interested in doing game art anymore (rumor has it that he doesn't wanna compete with Taka Tony), so it was probably impossible to get him for this reboot, anyway. Which is sad, since the art in this game doesn't even begin to compare to Urushihara's unique and beautiful style.
@Damo I'm pretty sure Urushihara likes doing hentai art (judging from the fact he's still active for certain japanese magazines as a cover artist), but yeah, it would be cool if that artstyle found more representation in less NSFW kinds of ways (by comparison, that is).
@Ralizah More like you want great artists to continue drawing as if it was the 90s. Honestly, I think that would be a great improvement over a lot of stuff we're getting now.
@Kaze_Memaryu Oh, I might want to note that the artist they hired was only for the major character portraits. For the NPCs, well...
Let's just say they got someone else to do it.
And, uh, it doesn't mesh well. Not very well.
Excited. I had assumed there was no chance of this coming here since almost no Langrisser games have, and I'm a fan of the series. I still own my original copy of Warsong and I still play it.
I watched a chunk of that video to see what people were complaining about and sure, it looks a little unrefined compared to a big budget blockbuster like FE, but it's pretty consistent with what we had from the series 20 years ago and I look forward to trying it, especially if they do a good job with localization.
I honestly was surprised to hear the VO from Kerensky on that YouTube video going, "wow, this is bad!" It is? He's complaining about units bursting and vanishing when they are defeated? Maybe I'm old, but I don't see the problem as a significant one.
The soundtrack is not out of place. This is the style of music this series has.
Reviews from people who understand the language similarly dislike it, so I'm concerned:

I'll look forward to a professional reviewer giving it a try, or a demo to try it myself.
Now unsuspecting Muricans can be subjected to the horrors of this terrible, terrible game.
Have fun
People were all "this better get localized" when it was announced for Japan.
Maybe it's not good to just cry for localizations willy nilly any time a new game is announced in Japan?
Well I love Fire Emblem and I've heard it has similarities, so I'm certainly interested
@Ralizah Exactly. Too bad this is quite common. Masamune Shirow is another example.
Hmm... not sure what to make of this, but glad that more games are coming. Will probably get on discount.
The battle animations in FE: Awakening were a lot more dynamic however I eventually turned them off b/c they got boring through repetition.
@Spoony_Tech oh wow I'm shocked after watching that video. I played and beat the Sega Genesis version which actually looks better than this version. I also played and beat the PCEngine version which was on CDRom and in Japanese and it also looked way better than this version. Landgrisser really has never had knockout graphics but I gotta say this looks to be a huge step back in that department. I will probably get it anyway but wait on price drops or a used copy. Maybe the story makes up for its looks.
You can probably tell from my username how excited I am. Can't wait!!
P.S. original warsong/langrisser is 10x better than fire emblem.
DEAR LANIGASSER
I just watched the first hour game play..... what a joyless turd of a game. I'll pass. its a shame too, I love me a good strategy game.
Such a disappointing game. The battle animation could had been something spectacular instead what we got are some lame animated deform sprites bombing the crap out of each other. Like @babel116 said, I'll pass too, give me a new Shining Force or Fire Emblem anyday.
Tsss... Oohhh... I was going to get that but I think I'll pass on the generic RPG looking protagonist and the bobble-head graphics... I mean I like chibi like in Rune Factory, or Etrian Mystery dungeon... But this one just looks silly, I can't help it
With the shortage of TTBS games on the 3DS, I'll take what I can get. The fact that Noriyuke Iwadare did the music once more is as great a motivation as any.
haven't heard much good about the game but I love Langrisser and it's doesn't look so bad that it isn't worth a try. the battle animation is awful, way better on genesis/mega drive maybe they'll fix it up a little, just a bit.
