Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm is a big deal on PC right now, offering a MOBA experience which pulls in characters from the company's famous back catalogue of video games.
As we've previously reported, it would seem that the guys at Blizzard are massive Nintendo fans, but if you require more evidence then all you need do is check out one of the alternative skins for new character Sgt. Morales:
Remind you of anyone? Thought so.
You can check out the full video - which shows the other new character Artanis as well as other fresh skins and mounts - below. But personally speaking, it's all about that Samus skin.
Thanks to C Eric Bauder for the tip!

Can they get sued for this?
@Zennock It's just a sequence of colours on a suit of robotic armour. I would say not.
Looks really cool!
Bring Starcraft 2 to the Wii U!!!
@Zennock There are more blatant Mario, Link, Street Fighter, etcf references in WoW over the last 10+ years. No, they can't get sued for paying homage to one of their favorite devs.
That is a pretty cool looking costume! I almost like it as much as the 8 bit design of Samus in Super Mario Maker.
That would actually be pretty interesting to play, a Metroid game in the isometric-actionRPG genre.
If they respected and were influenced by Nintendo that much, you would think they would develop at least one game for a Nintendo system, or at least release The Lost Vikings or Rock n' Roll Racing on the VC.
I find this odd, given that Nova bears a strong resemblence to Samus...
@dkxcalibur
You can get both of those for free on Battle.net. They're the DOS versions, so any PC should be able to run them.
@DarthNocturnal Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks. I will check them out.
? Thats really ugly.. Samus x Transformers? jajaja
Don't think they'd get sued. This is far from copyright infringement, and in order to be an infringement of the right to produce derivative works something has to be "based upon" the existing work. Here, while drawing inspiration from Samus's costume, the design of the character, game, etc. are so unlike that of the actual Samus character/Metroid series that I'm not sure it could be said to be "based upon" them.
Circumstances would be different if, perhaps, this was a metroidvania title or the costume was much closer to Samus's actual outfit. Here, it's really just the color scheme, and the nature of the game is entirely different.
In addition, I would not be surprised if the "big publishers" have some sort of unspoken agreement where they're free to draw inspiration from each other, within bounds of course. Would explain all the Nintendo references in Un'goro crater in vanilla WoW
@dkxcalibur
You need a Battle.net account to get them, I believe, but they are free. And if you already have one, well, all the easier. But there's no DRM on the games themselves.
They also have Blackthorne.
The closest to a new Metroid game this year was the Varia and Zero Suit in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
How bout a Link costume for Zeratul.
@Iggly Ahh and yet so far away. Haven't gotten that one.
Damien, that was one of the meanest subheadings you've ever written! Now I'm all depressed. Where did I put that Super Metroid cartridge, dagnabit?!!
I don't even see a resemblance...
Wish this was a tease from Blizzard for a Wii U port of Heroes of the Storm.
You think that's a little on the nose? Check out this upcoming Kukulkan skin from SMITE - http://i.imgur.com/SGVqojj.png
If we won't get a proper Metroid soon, new kids will remember this character more than the original Samus...
@TurboTEF @Damo That is good to hear. Companies putting easter eggs relating to other companies. Reminds me of the Sega Vs Nintendo days.
Big fan of Blizzard's games and would love to see one on a Nintendo platform. Maybe for NX?
In fact, they're such Nintendo fans, they have yet to release anything on any Nintendo console.
