I'm curious to see what TPC and Nintendo do with this. They are so protective of their brands, I can't see them being happy if Scopely does anything that might damage their image
I really hope Amiibo go on forever. They are very affordable way of collecting figures related to games I enjoy without breaking my bank. I have all the ones from my favourite series. The prices you'd pay for figures of these characters from the likes of Figma would have had me on the streets
I love the slow drip of Pokemon rather than having them all at the start. Encourages people to try new strategies and new Pokemon they may have not before! I also imagine they'll add Z Moves and Dynamax as time goes on. Very excited for this. Love that I can play it on the TV on Switch or on commute on my phone like Showdown.
Saw an amazing concept on reddit a few days ago for a second screen that attaches when you invert the switch 2 like in the patents as a way of playing DS and 3DS games. Do not want to get my hopes up for that sort of thing but it makes more sense to have the flipping feature than the audio jack being able to be swapped around. Also would means you can charge the switch 2 while playing with a second screen thanks to the extra USB C port.
@Bolt_Strike oh absolutely have been told to put a lid on it to all 3rd parties for one reason or another otherwise they'd have started announcing things after the initial reveal. Wonder what's the strategy behind it? A big blowout on April 2nd to shake the world or maybe they want to avoid leaking any features that may be hidden as of yet
@The-Chosen-one you're in for a treat with Three Houses! Fantastic game! Engage is a lot of fun too but it shines in gameplay more than story compared to Three Houses.
@Jeronan you keep claiming it was a direct response to Sony but this is the actual timeline of events.
Jan 25, 2024 - Pokemon announce they are investigating Palworld Jul 10, 2024 - Sony announce a deal with Palworld Sep 21, 2024 - Pokemon and Nintendo announce they intend to pursue legal action.
They took months to investigate and it was two months after Sony announced they were going to pursue it legally, not right after.
Also Nintendo aren't rivaling Sony. This isn't a TV show. Nintendo dominated the Japanense market this generation. They aren't concerned over one game that isn't on their platform that had 5 minutes of fame compared to the most successful franchise in the world. They don't want their IP being stolen from. That's clearly the driving force behind this legal action.
The coincidence that Pal designs are very very similar to a lot of Pokemon designs is much more significance than them announcing a lawsuit after months of an investigation.
@Jeronan @Jeronan well not necessarily they would have. Pokemon or Nintendo are not going to go after every single studio that plagerises their work before a game releases. It would be unwise use of resources. Especially when the development of Palworld was as messy as it was in the beginning, there was a chance the game would have never released.
2 years ago, they may have done that but people have done that recently by taking models directly from the games and overlapped them, clearly showing they were at the very least traced. Many 3D artists have said it is impossible for so many similarities to exist in separate designs for it to not be the case. One of the pals even has a unique flower on its head that isn't even a real flower, one that was just designed for Lilligant.
This isn't a school yard. Nintendo/TPC are not going to be pressured by fans to sue someone. They are a business with experts in the fields working for them to know whether or not legal action is required.
If that was 2 years ago, Pokemon fans couldn't be upset that Palworld was a 'success' because it hadn't released yet. Also the argument for success is objective because lastest sale numbers for Scarlet and Violet are 26.38 million copies and for Palworld only has 15 million sales and 10 million players playing through Gamepass.
Pettiness is not the same as targeting a game that plagiarised your work. While Nintendo have targeted others for many things that are not a good look. This one is very justied because they are profiting off of their work. Also the assumption that they are only suing after PlayStation got involved is an assumption. Legal action isn't something that gets announced on a whim and had a lot of stuff planned in the background.
While they should have done more to fix Scarlet and Violet, they have taken 3 years now to release a new game so they are taking into account the criticism.
Can you highlight any other patent cases Nintendo have ongoing to warrant the title of a patent troll?
Those people have often talked about how they have been working with new talent for a lot of games so they are preparing for that scenario.
The time restraints are not all in Nintendo's control as they only own a 3rd of the Pokemon company.
@Jeronan I never mentioned patents. I am talking about the plagiarised Monsters.
Nintendo never went after any other franchise because they didn't blatantly rip off their designs. Pocketpair are known for doing this with their other games also.
I agree game mechanics shouldn't be patented but they are clearly going after them because of them copying a lot of designs rather than mechanics themselves.
@chuckboi79 whatever floats your boat! There is loads of games you can shoot Monsters in that deserve your time!
Play Digimon Story Time Stranger later this year if you want to support games that don't palagarise from others and compete with Pokemon in the monster collecting genre! Play Cybersleuth in the meantime too! Underappreciated franchise!
Love to see freenium mobile games take a big hit. Sick of their continued existence. Just exist to milk your wallet using franchises you love. Long may it continue to fall.
Delighted to see a smaller budget title do better than expected. Especially if it means more HD2D games to exist going forward!
I would love to see a university level student for a Persona game. I think there is a lot more they could explore but still keeping an education setting. Would allow a lot of party members to come from more distinctive fields for their roles.
@Lizuka Bayonetta 2 and 3 sold similar enough numbers given the number of years 2 has on 3 along with the fact bayonetta 2 has two console releases. They both sold over a million so I wouldn't say this isn't a successful franchise for what it is.
I would pity a company that isn't plagiarism loving, ai supporting, mistreating employees like Pocketpair. If it was a company like those behind indie games like Temtem, Nexomon or Cassette Beasts who are clearly inspired by Pokemon but do their own thing and have their own identity that doesn't rely on copying the Monsters designs from their inspiration. Pocketpair brought this on themselves.
I'd rather pay the one off payment like this game on mobile than play any 'free to play' trash that is normally released. I hope they do this for Fire Emblem Heroes one day too.
I hate any sound that is associated with my alarm so I will not be purchasing because I don't want to start hating the music from some of my favourite franchises.
Remakes have more work put into them and especially if they add more content than was in the original game.
Remasters don't need as much work unless they added more stuff to the game but it still should be less than a remake as the game doesn't have to be made from the ground up.

@Coversnail Legends ZA is a Switch 1 title so they can talk about it no problem. Pokemon rarely ever show off their mainline news in Directs.

Re: Several PlatinumGames Veterans Have Seemingly Left The Studio
@Lady_rosalina she is in 3, she just isn't the main character. She appears in the final fight.
The story isn't the be all end all for Bayonetta. The game excelled in many other areas. It is hardly a nail in the coffin.
Re: Several PlatinumGames Veterans Have Seemingly Left The Studio
@Lizuka Bayonetta 2 and 3 sold similar enough numbers given the number of years 2 has on 3 along with the fact bayonetta 2 has two console releases. They both sold over a million so I wouldn't say this isn't a successful franchise for what it is.

Depends on the game.
