Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is celebrating its two-year anniversary with a bumper list of in-game events, all of which culminate in the arrival of shiny Rayquaza, which you'll be able to get for a limited time via Tera Raid Battles.
The black-coloured Rayquaza will be available in Scarlet & Violet from 20th December 2024 to 5th January 2025, but you'll have to take it down and capture it in a 5-Star Tera Raid Battle. That's not before a whole slew of events taking place in Paldea, Kitakami, and the Blueberry Academy, however.

Between 29th November and 19th December, three sets of Tera Raid Battle Events will be taking place. the first will feature Corbiknight and Bellibolt (until 5th December), the second Azumarill and Clodsire (until 12th December), and the third Annihilape and Kingambit (until 19th December).
Three Mass Outbreaks will also be popping up across all three regions in Scarlet & Violet during those same dates. Outbreaks of Tinkatink with the Ferocious Mark will pop up in Paldea until 5th December, followed by Wooper outbreaks in Kitakami with the Absent-Minded Mark until 12th December. Then, at the Blueberry Academy, Girafarig outbreaks (with the Intellectual Mark) will be happening until 19th December.
Other featured Pokémon, during the Rayquaza part of the event, will be Cetoddle (in Paldea), Carbink (Kitakami), and Fraxure (Blueberry Academy). So you'll need both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLC if you want to get everything.
Plus, if you want an easy way to level up, Chansey will also be appearing in mass outbreaks across Paldea for the duration of the event.
Shiny Rayquaza will also be getting a Multi Battle campaign in Pokémon UNITE in December, so it's a busy month for what might be one of the best-looking shiny Pokémon.
Will you be attempting to capture shiny Rayquaza in Scarlet & Violet? Can you believe the game is two years old already? Let us know in the comments.

Sorry, I'm trying to find who asked.
I don't think Rayquaza has been significant since Brawl.
@batmanbud2 Mega Rayquaza is the best raid pokemon in GO, though. They might be preparing for Pokemon ZA, where Mega pokemon make a return.
Will get this pokemon, am lacking one in my shiny living dex still.
Wish it was a 7 star raid, they're so much fun. We haven't gotten any legendary since Mewtwo as a 7 star and it's unfortunate.
Looks like I'm going to dust off Violet again just so I can trade the shiny Rayquaza to my Shield file.
5 stars, really? They must want to ensure everyone can get it. At least I won't have to work for it lol
What? Pokemon Scarlet and Voilet is already two years old? That was so fast.
Pokemon Rayquaza looks incredible.
There are so many new Pokemons.
İ know the mostly Pokemons in generation 1 and generation 4. My favourite generation is 4.
Well glad it's at least not a frustrating 7 star raid. They're the worst abomination of anti-fun gaming I ever experienced. I might get this one.
@Pillowpants I get what you mean. Not to sound elitist but I completed every 7 star raid thus far they are meant to be hard compared to the 6 star raids after all the pokemon in the 7 star raids have perfect nature's, IVs, and are lvl 100. What makes them unfun is when you try to tackle them with Randoms
And all they see is the pokemon they have to fight and not it's tera type.
For me this kind of stuff has ruined shiny hunting for me. Shiny Pokémon just doesn't have the same appeal when you practically give them away.
I have the shiny Rayquaza that was distributed in 2015 for Omega Ruby, but I'm going to get this one too.
They say this is guaranteed shiny. The previous Rayquaza from the side quest was shiny locked.
Also, it correlates with the anime so anime fans will be happy even more.
@batmanbud2
Rayquaza - specifically shiny Rayquaza, is pretty big in Japan. Regular Rayquaza is the mascot for Pokemon Center Skytree, and both normal and Black Rayquaza (which seems to be what they call him) have big displays there. I was just there a few weeks ago and they had some really cool merch that featured him. I don't know why he's popular, and he's certainly not Charizard popular, but he's up there. Lots of Gatchapon, toys, figures, etc.
Side note - the entire floor that the Pokemon Center is on in Skytree Town is Pokemon-centric. There's a few other stores, but there are just random pokemon decorations and statues everywhere. Super cool place to take pictures.
The raids are way too difficult for my liking but 5stsr sounds doable.

@Narrator1 Wich is kind of funny when you think about it.
Shiny Rayquaza yes!! Was so sad that I lost my old Shiny Rayquaza to time, and I can finally get one back with this event!
