Re: Super Rare Games Announces A Whopping Nine Physical Switch Releases

BumpkinRich

@mazzel Team 17 did not publish Overcooked or Yooka-Laylee in the traditional sense as they did not pay any development costs. They handle the distribution of the game and marketing and take a percentage of the sales.

Importantly, they didn't have influence during the development.

Seems like people are trying to use 'indie' to describe a style of game - but that will never work because small independent studios can create massive games - take No Mans Sky for example.

Much better to use it as a term that describes the distance between the team making the game and the money people pay for it.

Re: Nindies Respond To Nintendo Releasing High Volume Of Games On Switch eShop

BumpkinRich

The problem with this approach is it creates a race to the bottom. Devs have to create games with no barrier to entry (cost) so need games that rely on repetitive gameplay loops that encourage micro transactions.

No smaller studio is going to strive to create games like Octopath Traveller in a marketplace where they will be swamped. The flip side of this is the stuidos that can market games like OT see the money going towards the free to play games so start making those.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fans Are Harassing Masahiro Sakurai Over Waluigi Snub

@ClassSonicSatAm No. There is to 'to be fair' when your sending abusive messages to a human being because you want a character to appear in a game.

There are plenty of ways to be heard, this is not one of them.

Nintendo are now in the situation where they should not put Waluigi in the game becuase it could encourage this behaviour towards their staff in the future.

Re: Mojang Details Phase One Features Of Update Aquatic

@Joeynator3000 Mostly good. The reason for the new version is it shares the same code base so updates will reach all platforms quicker. It also allows for cross platform play AND purchases.

Bad because it means this is the same code as mobiles. This hasn't gone down well with the xbone community as the crafting interface changed.

Re: Review: Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 02 - Robot Kit (Switch)

Really think they priced this wrong. Can't help thinking the model should have been you could buy each item seperately at a much lower price and the software be free.

This would give a much lower barrier to entry , a potential system seller and Nintendo would literally be selling cardboard boxes.

People will say 'oh you would just use your own boxes...' but you would still need a switch!

Re: Details Regarding Nintendo Switch Online Services Will Be Shared In May

BumpkinRich

@BigCoqSurprise Your splatoon experience will not improve. Splatoon 2 (and all other online Nintendo games) uses peer to peer networking. Meaning one of the players becomes the server and everyone else connects to them.

See my previous comment about what you actually pay for (for MS and Sony anyway - we still don't know what Nintendo have in store.)

Re: Details Regarding Nintendo Switch Online Services Will Be Shared In May

BumpkinRich

@dunnyone A common mistake regarding paying for online is 'it pays for the servers' - it doesn't. When you play GTA5, Fortnite, Overwatch, COD etc. you are paying on servers provided by the developer at there own cost.

What you are paying for is the service that connects you together so you can easily join your friends in these games and communicate with them.

Re: KORG Gadget Releases Worldwide Next Week On The Switch eShop

@justin233 If you have an iPad check out the demo. It has 3 gadgets (think of these as instruments that are made to be played on electronic devices) and will give you a much better understanding than any text.

I doubt you will be able to export. May come in the future.

I use it on the iPad to create loops which i play along with on physical instruments.
