Got Fortnite running on my sons PC which probably below Switch in spec. Ran well. Its clearly been optimised for different machines and as a free to play game they need it to reach the largest audience possible.
In terms of player base I would go as far as saying this is one the most important games at the moment and the Switch needs to be a part of that.
@Folkloner If it was written in monogame then they are probably talking about converting the codebase and (hopefully) implementing online gameplay - which many studios have stated as their delay in Switch ports.
Funny but the 'free advertising' rules that youtubers follow switch around totally for their IP.
I made a game and worked with a few small youtubers so you could pick them as your character (a highly stylised version of them anyway) if you entered a code they would give away on their channel.
When I approached larger channels, who use the free advertising argument, they would not allow the use ANY of their IP within my game without a massive upfront cost. The same channels had already covered the game (using my IP) without asking or saying they had done so.
Love that the comments sections in articles like this always make it so simple. If only they had sold their stock online and undercut Amazon they would have been fine.
The bigger picture with digital distrubution is that our access and choice will be totally controlled in a few years and that will be a sad place to be.
Switch has no shelf space in non specialist stores in my area. Supermarkets that stock PS4 and XB1 games dont stock switch at all. Where it is present its a single shelf and has a very 'betamax' feel to it.
Got to say I find these videos slightly childish. Although the (handpicked) comments are fairly unintelligible they do have valid points (price / marketing the Switch at a younger demographic / durability). Using dumb comments to make yourself look clever has the opposite effect on me I'm afraid.
I get that it's done for humour but, for me, it comes across as cheap fanboyism.
Shame because that point about discs being cheaper than cardboard and R & D costs is a good one and you could have probably made a video pointing that out.
@Kfmush lf it is so expensive to run online games how have Nintendo done it so far? It is a falacy that online services like PS+ and XB Gold use the money to pay for servers that you play on. The service your paying for is matchmaking, party chat and cloud storage.
The servers you play the games on are run by the games developers. Nintendo tend to use p2p, even on splatoon i believe, and i dont see that changing. The paid service will enable better friend services and interaction.
@samuelvictor Thanks for the insight on that. Would the name also be a problem? Im guessing if it was an actual documentary things would be different. Maybe theres been an embarrassing mix up.
@SethNintendo Worth remembering though that it was that control scheme that really made FPS on a console viable. Then the team moved onto Time Splitters and perfected it with a scheme we pretty much still use today.
Its horrible today but back in the day I felt in total control.
As great as it is I always feel like there is something missing. Motion controls were great for punching but not so hot for moving around the stage. They also seemed to discourage people from trying the game which is a huge shame.
@Nincompoop As long as you enjoy competitive online play, Rocket League is an endless source of entertainment. I've been playing for over 2 years on PC, PS4 and now Switch. Other games come and go but Rocket League stays constant.
@NinNin Only time I have experienced frame rate issue during some of the goal explosions. Especially the popcorn one. Obviously this doesn't affect game-play so not a massive issue.
Always said I'd have preferred this to Steam World Dig 2 (until I played Steam World Dig 2 - one of my games of the year). This seems like such a good fit for the Switch.
@rjejr Agree with what you are saying about the one hit kills. Im afraud i have been dissapointed so far. Found it a very confusing start and you're given no story motivaton to perform the quest.
I'm guessing the dev knows this'll never be on the eshop. This was in development before Switch was announced as a streaming app between PC and a lower spec laptop / handheld device. They've got to be doing this for the publicity only.
Shame that Fortnite hasnt made its way to the Switch. Hoping thats its due to the paid early access of the pve mode and it will come over when the game goes fully free to play.
Its the only game that pulls me away from the Switch at the moment.
@BigKing match making sorts itself out after a while. Remember that experienced players will have picked it up on switch so the system will think they're new. Things will be skewed for a bit.
Ive been playing for 2 years and my stats 50% so for me matchmaking has been spot on. Although it felt like i lost more.
@Pupito That attitude is pretty shortsighted. If you want to play great ganmes. We are seing a very definate move towards all games being held ransom behind a paywall. With free to play games making more money than BOTW there is serious pressure to move to that business model. Which, in my view, makes worse games.
@Metroplex360 You can do that. Anyone can play a game you own as long as your signed in to the switch, and it is set as your main console.
They should do it like ps4 though which allows you to play a digital copy on 2 consoles at the same time. Which means we can play multiplayer together without multiple copies.
@ottospooky True. Also looking at the February Nindies infographic of games coming in 2017 - only 70% of the games actually made it - and many of them were already available on other systems when announced.
I would love to know what happened to many of these games as I can't escape the feeling that the devs are finding it hard to port to Switch.
@kobashi100 Your right about scores. I would hapily see then removed. People fixate on then to much.
However the review barely mentions the microtransactions nor how career has been crippled to add them in. What purpose do they have? Just refers to it as a grind. Was that grind worthwile or was it there to tempt payment? Reading through comments makes me feel like there was no mention of them in initial review at all.
There is no way that this game is worth an 8 from what i have played. Its a free to play game with assets pulled from the past. The gameplay is good when you get it but based on a grind intended to fleece you for more money.
With the emphasis on the Tiny Barbarian review being on quality for money Im not sure why these microtransacrions get a free pass here.
Looks like they have a lot of work to do if this is going to be ready by Q2. Looks like a simple unreal demo. Feels like their hoping to cash in on the battle royale and switch gold rush. Happy to be proven wrong.
Anyone calling Unity bad clearly has no idea what they're talking about. UE and Unity both have pros and cons. I've released games with both and have used them professionally for the last 10 years.
Unity brought game design into the hands of thousands who couldn't afford it. There are studios out there who wouldn't exist if it were not for Unity.
As they made it so easy to create games this has sadly been abused with some appalling asset flips and reskins being sold on Steam. But that is the fault of the developer (and the store) not Unity.
@MasterWario I dont see what trusting Nintendo has to do with your online security. If it were so secure they wouldn't bother with 2 step authentication. They are because they know a password cannot be secure. (Nor can any security measure)
At the end of the day its your account. If convienince is worth losing it then thats up to tou. But usually 'It's not worth the hassle..' is followed by 'I wish i had..'
Great addition. But should be in the switch OS though to make it possible to remap buttons for all games. The jump button changing between Zelda and Splatoon drives me crazy.
Do people really see ARMS and Smash as really similar games. I know they're both about thumping seven bells out of each other but in terms of gameplay they feel world's apart to me.

Re: Nintendo Is Announcing "A New Way To Play" Later Today
@Razer They've said multiple times that they're not interested in VR. Most recently 5 days ago - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/01/nintendo_reiterates_that_its_not_interested_in_virtual_reality_or_4k_support
Can't see this being a game. It's going to be a new peripheral that is basically a toy.

@NaviAndMii Like the one that was released 6 years ago on 360?

Re: Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut Is A Killer Puzzler Slashing Its Way Onto Switch
Gosh. Mobile games come with a lot of negative baggage these days don't they.
This game has been well received critically on PC and mobile so a good port is a welcome addition to the Switch library.

That fills the hole left by the Far Cry delay. Nice
Re: Yooka-Laylee's Nintendo Switch eShop Price Is Revealed
Think its slightly unfair of this article to headline that it is cheaper on PS4.
Not a huge fan of the game but its one of the few indie titles that doesn't cost more than other digital stores.
Just dont get why it's a headline for this game but the £5 extra for Lumo is overlooked.
Re: Review: RIVE: Ultimate Edition (Switch eShop)
@TwoTribes Brilliant game and an absolutely perfect for the Switch. All the best for whatever the future brings.

Re: Reminder: Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is Out Today on the Switch eShop
Fantastic game. If you enjoy true co-op game play, in which it's essential that you work together, you'll love it.
If you play alone then I would hold off though. Stardew Valley is on the way for blissful solo play.

Re: You Can Now Enable Two-Step Authentication For Your Nintendo Account
@MasterWario the short sightedness of your statement is mind boggling. Just because something hasn't happened it doesn't mean it can't.
Two step authentication is just like adding a second door to a safe. If you can have it why not have it?
Re: Indie Hit Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime is Heading to the Switch eShop Very Soon
This is a great game. Perfect for Switch.
Only negative is the name as when you say 'wanna play Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime ' you get some funny looks.

@OorWullie Yes. I hope your right as my best buddy brought a Switch this weekend because of that delay.
Re: Feature: Basking in Nostalgia and '16-Bit' Goodness in Sonic Mania
Worrying that they didn't supply a switch review code. Hopefully nothing but if this is a bad port I will be very very sad.
Re: Psyonix Targeting 60fps, 720p With Rocket League On Switch, Docked And Undocked
60 FPS > 1080 for me.
Graphical optimisation may have to come from the engine (Unreal) so hopefully they're working on that.
@DJKeens I play with people who use mouse and keyboard and they arial better than me using a 360 controller so I'm not too worried.
