Re: Fornite Is Coming To Mobile, So When Is It Coming To Nintendo Switch?

BumpkinRich

Got Fortnite running on my sons PC which probably below Switch in spec. Ran well. Its clearly been optimised for different machines and as a free to play game they need it to reach the largest audience possible.

In terms of player base I would go as far as saying this is one the most important games at the moment and the Switch needs to be a part of that.

Re: Nintendo Changes Requirements For Its Controversial YouTube Creators Program

BumpkinRich

Funny but the 'free advertising' rules that youtubers follow switch around totally for their IP.

I made a game and worked with a few small youtubers so you could pick them as your character (a highly stylised version of them anyway) if you entered a code they would give away on their channel.

When I approached larger channels, who use the free advertising argument, they would not allow the use ANY of their IP within my game without a massive upfront cost. The same channels had already covered the game (using my IP) without asking or saying they had done so.

Why didn't they see this as free advertising?

Re: Rare's Local Video Game Store Is Closing Its Doors After 24 Years

Love that the comments sections in articles like this always make it so simple. If only they had sold their stock online and undercut Amazon they would have been fine.

The bigger picture with digital distrubution is that our access and choice will be totally controlled in a few years and that will be a sad place to be.

Re: Video: Not Everyone Is Pleased With Nintendo Labo

BumpkinRich

Got to say I find these videos slightly childish. Although the (handpicked) comments are fairly unintelligible they do have valid points (price / marketing the Switch at a younger demographic / durability). Using dumb comments to make yourself look clever has the opposite effect on me I'm afraid.

I get that it's done for humour but, for me, it comes across as cheap fanboyism.

Shame because that point about discs being cheaper than cardboard and R & D costs is a good one and you could have probably made a video pointing that out.

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo

BumpkinRich

@Kfmush lf it is so expensive to run online games how have Nintendo done it so far? It is a falacy that online services like PS+ and XB Gold use the money to pay for servers that you play on. The service your paying for is matchmaking, party chat and cloud storage.

The servers you play the games on are run by the games developers. Nintendo tend to use p2p, even on splatoon i believe, and i dont see that changing. The paid service will enable better friend services and interaction.

Re: Yooka-Laylee's Nintendo Switch eShop Price Is Revealed

BumpkinRich

Think its slightly unfair of this article to headline that it is cheaper on PS4.

Not a huge fan of the game but its one of the few indie titles that doesn't cost more than other digital stores.

Just dont get why it's a headline for this game but the £5 extra for Lumo is overlooked.

Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)

BumpkinRich

@BigKing match making sorts itself out after a while. Remember that experienced players will have picked it up on switch so the system will think they're new. Things will be skewed for a bit.

Ive been playing for 2 years and my stats 50% so for me matchmaking has been spot on. Although it felt like i lost more.

Re: Nintendo's Updated Switch and 3DS Infographic Shows Off Winter Line-Up

BumpkinRich

@ottospooky True. Also looking at the February Nindies infographic of games coming in 2017 - only 70% of the games actually made it - and many of them were already available on other systems when announced.

I would love to know what happened to many of these games as I can't escape the feeling that the devs are finding it hard to port to Switch.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

BumpkinRich

@kobashi100 Your right about scores. I would hapily see then removed. People fixate on then to much.

However the review barely mentions the microtransactions nor how career has been crippled to add them in. What purpose do they have? Just refers to it as a grind. Was that grind worthwile or was it there to tempt payment? Reading through comments makes me feel like there was no mention of them in initial review at all.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

BumpkinRich

There is no way that this game is worth an 8 from what i have played. Its a free to play game with assets pulled from the past. The gameplay is good when you get it but based on a grind intended to fleece you for more money.

With the emphasis on the Tiny Barbarian review being on quality for money Im not sure why these microtransacrions get a free pass here.

Re: Unity Working to Optimise Engine on Switch, Talks Up Success on Platform

BumpkinRich

Anyone calling Unity bad clearly has no idea what they're talking about. UE and Unity both have pros and cons. I've released games with both and have used them professionally for the last 10 years.

Unity brought game design into the hands of thousands who couldn't afford it. There are studios out there who wouldn't exist if it were not for Unity.

As they made it so easy to create games this has sadly been abused with some appalling asset flips and reskins being sold on Steam. But that is the fault of the developer (and the store) not Unity.

Re: You Can Now Enable Two-Step Authentication For Your Nintendo Account

BumpkinRich

@MasterWario I dont see what trusting Nintendo has to do with your online security. If it were so secure they wouldn't bother with 2 step authentication. They are because they know a password cannot be secure. (Nor can any security measure)

At the end of the day its your account. If convienince is worth losing it then thats up to tou. But usually 'It's not worth the hassle..' is followed by 'I wish i had..'

My asteroid protection is to notch btw.
