It was only yesterday that we received official confirmation from Nintendo that Paladins is coming to Nintendo Switch, and now we can already get a first look at how the game will run on the console.
It has been confirmed that the game will feature 60fps gameplay on Switch (thanks to a custom port of Unreal Engine 3), as well as cross-platform play with Xbox One users, and we can see some of that silky smooth gameplay in YouTuber DestinyCast's hands-on video above.
Pre-orders for the game are already available from the North American Nintendo eShop, with the fast-approaching release date of 12th June (the same date as Nintendo's E3 Direct) just around the corner. Currently the game is available to buy as 'The Founder’s Pack' which includes all 36 champions currently in the game, all future champions, and a number of Founder exclusive cosmetic items. A free-to-play version of Paladins will also arrive on Nintendo Switch later this summer, presumably around the time of the Nintendo Switch Online service launch.
Will you be playing Paladins when it launches next week?

Pay to play for free?
Always was a very attractive looking game.
@jenkje pay for early access, its gonna be free for everyone later this summer.
This look extremely good. I am not fan of Team Fortress-like games but this just looks very nice! I hope it is successful and other devs consider the Switch for their games!
i'll get it. but, i need a Micro SD Card first.
It's great seeing a third party port running without any big issues or compromises, but does the full game include some random guy speaking German in the corner?
@Kimyonaakuma Yep, it's in the small print on the eShop. Ah well, we can't have everything.
@jenkje Free to pay*
@Fake-E-Lee how is that game? I forgot about that. Does it run smooth?
Not my sort of game, but it looks to run well, so I'll give the F2P a try one day probably.
@Fake-E-Lee @ryancraddock Finally we're getting some Switch exclusive features!
Definitely going to give this a go. Would like to have Overwatch too, as I've been playing lots of HoTS lately.
This is looking a lot better than I anticipated. Mostly because i never heard of the game before and "free to play" doesn't usually mean quality to me.
Hey thats pretty good
But does it have Gyro?
But is it 60fps?
Yeah, nobody should pay 29.99 to play Paladins. Just get any of the other versions and wait for the free one.
wtf is paladins
I liked it on XBO but am not keen on paying that much for it, so will wait til the full free-to-play release.
The base pack should be $10 at most, with less available characters. If FortniteBR releases at E3, completely for free with a $10 buy-in for a BattlePass, they're toast.
def not for me. Hope it dors well though.
Hoe much does IT Cost in €?
I've already went and preloaded the founders pack since I've been wanting a hero shooter on the switch since release. Wasn't a big fan of it on the Xbox or PC but on those platforms I had many alternatives to play instead so there wasn't much for me there. Now there won't be anything between me and getting my face knocked in by a gang of pros in matchmaking
Not going to be shelling out for early access but it will be nice to have a team fps on Switch.
Played it on PS4 and PC and had good fun but I eventually went back to Overwatch because there were some pay to win mechanics that made me feel it was not all skill based.
Looks pretty good. My hype for this went from zero to sixty almost immediately on hearing its announcement for Switch. I generally suck at these games but have fun sucking. Still in the process of reading about it before I make up my mind to go for the Founders' Pack or wait for free play.
Talk out of turn? That's a Paladin
Looking out the window? That's a Paladin
Staring at my Sandals? That's a Paladin
Paddlin the school Canoe? Ooh you better believe that's a Paladin.
Will wait and see what all is included in the Founders Pack cosmetics-wise and then might bite the bullet.
@30mm 29,99€ on all € eShops
It'll be interesting if the Switch can provide a shot in the arm for these games (Paladins, Arena of Valor, etc.).
I would still prefer to see heavy-hitters like Overwatch make the jump, but if Blizzard decides it can't I suppose there's always Fortnite, which hasn't had issues moving to basically every available platform.
What language is this guy speaking? The only words I recognized were Switch, eShop, crossplay, and Xbox.
i really like the fact that this is coming to switch, but , given that its free to play on other platforms, and will be free to play on switch later in the summer, is anyone actually gonna spend 25 quid to play it now, instead of just waiting until it is free to play?
@DeRezzie how do you feel about paying for it even though itll be free later in the summer? im curious because ive been waiting for more FPS games on switch but it feels a bit cynical of them to only offer the paid version at the moment?
Absolutely love Overwatch so I went ahead and purchased the Founders Pack for this. Never played it on my XB1, but if its anything like Overwatch then I'm all in. I was a huge fan of the Timesplitters series (Timesplitters 2 and Oddworld:Strangers Wrath are 2 of my all time fav FPSs) so I love thr look of these types of shooters. All like the fact that they're not too hardcore with the blood and foul language.
@MaetzleAT thx man!
@Azzdama the free version have you unlock the characters with like hours of play in between new ones and while for some it might be a fun thing to do I just wanted to jump in and play around with all the heroes and find the one I like the most without a lot of extra grind. And at $30 it's not too bad of a price for a game like this imo
@DeRezzie Yeah I might pick it up, I actually like the idea of the character unlock progression so kinda wish i could buy it and still unlock the characters slowly. If fortnite gets announced and its free to play ill probably just play that until paladins is free. also i backed crazy justice so should be playing that sometime soon. im certainly happy that were getting a whole bunch of shooters and paladins is defo on my most anticipated list.
@AlexOlney 59.999998 fps actually. So horrible I don't know if I'll be able to cope. My life is over.
60fps is great!
Unfortunately, no 4K, no buy.
I won't purchase any game unless it has 4K, no exceptions!
@Pete41608
You should probably leave this site, since no Nintendo game runs in 4K.
@Azzdama
I think the Founders Pack unlocks all the premium content. I'm guessing that'll be the preference of those who like to pay once and own everything. That's certainly my preference, anyways.
@Pete41608 WTF DUDE. What are you doing here? Nintendo Games run between 720p and 900p. You're at the wrong place for 4k games. if you want 4k games build yourself a decent gaming PC.
Watch, this will do really good on the Switch, Blizzard sees this success and decides ports Overwatch to the Switch.
@jenkje No, you can play for free or pay the one-time fee which unlocks all the other stuff. Basically it's like the free-to-play version is a demo, it's meant to keep player activity up so the people who buy the game have more people to play against.
Founders packs usually included a couple free skins on other platforms, as well as access to all characters + future characters. I was glad I got it when I did on PS4, but it was no $30, I can tell you that...I think I spent $11.99 or thereabouts...that was on sale, mind you, but I think it was 40% off, the regular price was $19.99 at the time, IIRC...but that was a while ago, and you also had to grind for cards at the time, so getting the pack only removed half of the busywork. I'm glad they removed that bit, it made the game feel pay2win.
@CanisWolfred
How fun was it? Just your opinion on the game itself, disregarding payment models and all that...
@Pete41608
Like, half the best games of 2018 (so far) don't run at 4K. And even then, choosing to go for full fat 4K can result in choppy frames. Like seen in God of War.
Point being, you're missing out for a pretty asinine point bullet.
@JaxonH It was pretty fun, but keep in mind that I mostly played it last summer/fall, and they seemed to have taken steps to address most of my major concerns with it. I'll have to spend some more time with it to say whether or not it's in a good state now - when I played it, it was horribly unbalanced, some of the maps were terrible, grinding for cards was a pain, and there too many currency types that made the already-spotty UI confusing. But that was months ago, during the beta. The UI is better, there are less glitches, and definitely a more streamlined progression system, especially now that cards seem to be unlocked for all players right away. I also noticed a lot of balance changes and map improvements/new maps in the patchnotes since January, but like I said, I'd have to play more to really determine how much that helped.
But yeah, even before all that, I had fun with it. Fun characters, interesting mechanics, the card system allowed for a lot of variety, and the overall game modes kept me interested for a long time.
Man, I really want to learn German. Such a cool language
Just like most other games this days, this one isn’t coming to Japan (at least not at the same time as the rest of the world)
@Azzdama I'm buying it even though on my X1 I unlocked all characters for free. It's such a fun game and so many new characters have been released that I don't wanna grind to get em all.
@jenkje Even in the f2p version you have buy the extra characters been playing it on the ps4 and its a blast, but i was holding out for a switch release as it would be better for me as i play away from home most nights. consider it free to try with limited champions and if you want the full experience you have to buy the game at 30$ not all that bad.
@Pete41608 haha, reel them in.
