@Arnold-Kage So I have something more interesting to do during working hours I'm lucky enough to be able to listen to the direct at work. I have to imagine the pictures though which can suck as a big reveal will probably be cinematic.

The Pi is an incredible device that makes it possible for people to experiment with computing at a low price. I've learnt loads using my three.

If you find devices that allow emulation possible so disgusting I presume you don't use any device with a processor and keyboard.

One of the best PS+ titles. Would be tempted to double dip if there weren't so many other titles vying for my attention.

I'm guessing their are a lot of titles like this kicking themselves for not jumping on Switch at launch. 18 months ago I would have grabbed this without thinking. Not so much now.

The wierd thing is if you want to do voice chat you will have to download an app on your Switch and use that.

Or... Nintendo could just add a password to the switch which still seems like a glaring ommision on a handheld console.

@Balta666 yeah. The only hype Ive heard this year for cod is from players who tried the beta.

Then again - they are people who had all pre ordered so they are likely to be on side anyway.

@NewAdvent There is nothing that confirms that. After the statement from the publishers CEO regarding microtranactions in all titles I am expecting them to be part of RDR2s single player. Or that they will have focused on the lucrative multiplayer at the detriment of the story.

@Dalarrun they also made the second one exclusive on xbone for a year. That annoyed a lot of people and also means many players have only recently played the second one.

And it didnt review well.

@BubbleMatrix82 I didnt say that Splatoon was a kids game. I said that if the reasoning for the app was security why put a costume shop on it? Bit of a flaw if a child cant get a costume without using the app.

Im not sticking to any design pattern. I would have been more than happy if there was a purpsose to the app. But there's not. It's putting tape over a crack.

If you keep scrambling from excuse to excuse as you are then you need to examine why its so hard to defend the app.

This time its battery life. If social features affect battery life have an option to turn them off.

The app does not need to be on a phone. It is because Nintendo cut corners.

@yuwarite Nope. They are encouraging children to use smart phones which is, imo, more dangerous. Safety features should be built into the console. Like a password to stop your kids playing doom... like i have on my ps4.

@BubbleMatrix82 Your security argument doesnt add up. You do know that PS4 and Xbone have parental controls that let you control access the different features? They are pretty good for 'entry point' machines.

If Nintendo dont want to do voice chat then thats fine, but they HAVE done it. And if it was on a phone for security then why does the app have features that are desirable to younger players on it like the splatoon costumes?

The only argument I can think of that makes sense is that a mobile device has internet connectivity when your out and about. But if thats the case why dont they just say that?

@BubbleMatrix82 you seem to have entirely missed the point. Maybe you were to busy owning things to read carefully.

Having to use your phone is inconvenient and adds unnecessary complexity. Thats the main problem and i dont see any argument that justifies it.

Nothing that has tried the second screen trick has worked. Most famously the wii u. You seem to compare the switch and phone set up to the DS but that was a single device where both screens were in your field of vision.

@ryancraddock Agreed. Its not as if software piracy is a new thing. If Nintendo are failing to keep their hardware safe from hackers what does this say about their online infrastructure. The service that holds our credit card numbers for those recuring subscription fees.

I think Minecraft is the first 'evergreen' video game. They dont need to create a sequel because the format is so scalable and the gameplay seems timeless.

This is why they get to re-release the same game for each new generation of hardware. Nintendo is critisised for the amount of 'deluxe' versions being released on the switch but that critism isnt levelled at Minecraft.

As opposed the the 100% of Switch users who have a Switch which should have the features built in.

@Nehalem Take a look at the stuff coming out of this. Looks like the management handled this terribly. Game devs are treated horribly by many studios, about time someone made a stand.

If you stop playing your switch for a year and its dead when you go back to it your saves are gone. That doesnt seem like an issue now but Ive not touched my wii u in 180 days.

@BionicDodo its based on what Nintendo list on their own store. Dead Cells says it does not support cloud saves.

Put these games on the Switch Nintendo and people will buy them from you. Offer convienience and stop this practice of trying to create the illusion of rarety.

Small correction - playing Splatoon 2 online is not a benefit. Nintendo are taking the ability to play Splatoon 2 away and selling it back to you.

@SlyPlayr09 I will say this every time someone mentions the service and servers. Nintendo games do not use dedicated servers, they use peer to peer which is totally unsuitable, totally insecure and totally cheep.

This will be a nice compensation to people whose Switch was damaged and have to restart Splatoon.

@BenRK To justify your complaining about other people complaining you list a number of faults with other companies services. I wonder why those faults changed?

What I am loving most about dedicated Ninty sites atm is how the pro online argument is now purely 'its cheep'.

@dps5pt It's not naive. I struggling to understand why people are being so accepting.

Because you can ONLY backup in the cloud this means that you have to continue to pay Nintendo , even if your not using the service, for anything more than storing the save. Or trust the hardware.

I know people will bang on about gameboy carts and such, but its 2018. Every photo I take is stored in about 10 locations minutes after I take it. That's what happens here in the future.

Honestly find it bizarre that people in this comments section are applauding Nintendo for finding a way to ransom what I would consider precious hours of gameplay.

@subpopz Yeah. A group of us meet up every 3-4 months to play these games. The ability to play them without having to travel would allow this a little more often. But also it gives you the opportunity to meet new people who like to play.

@Adrevenue Do you mean Realms? You can't blame a dedicated server for lag as you choose the server.

@Trajan The definition of hacker includes the definition of a 'cracker' and is standard industry lexicon. Basically cracking software is part of what a hacker may do.

@gauthieryannick Strange... steam on my pc seems to have been offering great online services and I havent had to pay a penny.

The costs of running these services are tiny when you consider their primary function is to encourage you to play (and to purchase) games.

@Yorumi I glad you said that. I was looking at the article thinking isnt an online solution the way to prevent this!

And I cant believe that people say it moaning if your not happy with having no way to back up hours of gameplay progress.

So what's Nintendos 'good reason' for not offering any way to back up save data other than some mysterious service that launches well over 12 months later?

Think there will be one. They'll drop a new 'deluxe' game in time for christmas but will still gloss over the online service.

I was brilliant at this on the speccy. Apart from the vault... oh how I hated the vault.
