I'm curious as to why we see such different release schedules from country to country on mobile. Is this because of the way app stores are set up internationally? Or is it a choice made by Nintendo?
It took us so long to get Dragalia Lost here in the UK that I lost all interest.
@rjejr I don't quite understand. If your sole reason for subscribing to Bank was to transfer Pokemon to the new generation, why would you have subscribed these post two years if there has been no new generation?
As someone who has one physical Switch game (Pokemon LG Pikachu) and is otherwise a digital gamer...I don't think a digital-only model would be worth it at this point.
Moreso that other consoles, digital purchasing on the Switch is expensive due to more expensive games and storage.
Also I don't really see much of a benefit. Switch cards are small, so there's no size benefit. I also imagine the card reading technology is only a small fraction of the manufacturing cost.
Personally the thing I want ported most from Wii U to Switch at this point is the virtual console, but I certainly wouldn't say no to portable Wind Waker.
@Zkibu I dunno...many Gamecube titles are lauded as best in their series, including Metroid Prime, Smash Bros Melee, F Zero GX, and Mario Kart. We also got some great new IP in Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing and Pikmin. There's also Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Mario Sunshine.
@Zkibu gamecube arguably failed due to poor marketing, lack of DVD playback and Sony's domination at the time. Not at all because it was a bad console.
While I might need some convincing on the layout, the idea of using a more modern analogue stick on my n64 (rather than the God-awful ones that the console had back in the day) is quite appealing. I'll keep an eye out for this one.
Really don't see the complaints here. Essentially a 5% return on any digital game, as opposed to the occassional discount on a game you may or may not be interested in. And it's not like the competition are offering anything similar (although Sony in particular have far more sales - but that's a different issue!)
Well deserved. Mario Odyssey was arguably as good a game, but not quite the same step up for the series IMO. I didn't quite blow me away in quite the same fashion.
I really enjoyed what I played, although the 1-minute time limit was kinda frustrating. I would've been more than happy just to play Generations on the Switch though, so quite looking forward to this.
I loved the 3D from the day I got the 3DS, and I especially appreciate it now that I own the Vita and the Switch as well, as it makes it easier to go back to the relatively low-res graphics of the 3DS.
I can understand why it didn't sit well with everyone though - I guess it's not suited to everyone's eyes. Personally I can't use it at all when using my glasses, which correct for astigmatism.
Really mixed feelings on this. I'm personally afraid that it will fail to capture the charm of the original, which was dark and edgy while also having a family-friendly, cartoony appeal.
I'm willing to give Ubisoft a chance but my honest overall first impression is that of disappointment. Still, I'm interested to see what comes next.
Having played this at the Switch event in London, I have high hopes for this one. I think the game is much more fun and unique than it looks (and I thought Nintendo really did a good job of displaying it yesterday), and has as much depth as many fighters. The motion controls are excellent - much better than anything on the Wii.
I was quick to dismiss Splatoon until I played the Global Testfire. Thus I think it's crucial that Nintendo release a demo ahead of time to sell people on this game.
I don't think importing will save you much money. The UK price isn't too far off the US price, taking exchange rate and tax into account. The problem is that the exchange rate is poor because of the weak pound.
@jswhitfield8 Really? I thought it was well balanced with each gen getting about the same amount of time. The only exception was the extra X&Y bit in the encore, but that's excusable for being the encore and for them being the most recent games at the time.
Although, I would argue that the song choice for some games was weaker than others. I feel gens 1, 4, 5 and 6 had excellent pieces whereas gens 3 and (most surprisingly) 2 weren't represented well with their choice of songs.
I've seen both in London - Pokemon around Christmas 2015, and Zelda in Spring 2016. While I'd say both are excellent, I'm gonna have to disagree with this article and say I preferred Pokemon (probably because of some intrinsic bias! I am 'Buizel', after all).
I used 3D at (pretty much) all times from the beginning to the end - I absolutely loved it. 3DS games really looked strange to me without it - then again, the relatively low resolution compared to the Wii U and Vita probably didn't help. It added so much depth to the games and I'm really going to miss it on the Switch.
Having said that, I've been diagnosed with astigmatism (after previously having 20:20 vision) since getting my 3DS so maybe not all good!
I'm confident that this year will be great for Nintendo, probably the best that they've had since the Wii. I think they'd really have to mess up with something in particular (price, battery) for the Switch to flat out fail. Zelda and Mario are already pinned for 2017 and that's excellent - and who knows what else we'll have in the Switch's first year, considering the complete shift in resources we've seen the past year or two.
From what I understand (I don't have an iPhone so haven't had the opportunity to play!), there's some free content but a purchase is required to buy the full game.
Surely they can't expect everyone to make the full purchase on day one when there's some free content there? Give it time.
@abbyhitter I'd agree in that case. The issue with the Wii is that it was outputting a max of 480p when HD (720p and up) was becoming standard. However, we're never going to see such a large jump in resolution again. On the other hand, many console games of this generation are having frame rate issues.
Got a strange feeling of deja vu with this article :s (Edit: Completely missed that in the first sentence, d'oh!)
For some games I'd prefer a constant 30 fps and a bit more "visual splendour", if at all possible.
For fast-paced affairs such as Mario Kart and Smash Bros, I'd say 60 fps as the action is more important than the spectacle.
I think the #1 target graphically should be a consistent frame-rate, whether 30 or 60 fps. No matter how nice a game looks, the illusion drops when the game starts to lag.
While I've never owned the original Xbox, I've made fair use out of the backwards compatibility of the 360, so have played my fair share of Xbox games.
I think it was a pretty solid system. Halo was excellent, which helped. They also secured quite a lot of interesting exclusives, with quite a strong Sega presence, which I found appealing.
Finally, I really like the aesthetic of the console - the green game cases, the black and green box, and both controllers with their multicoloured buttons. It provided a nice contrast to the Gamecube (which I also loved), and the PS2 (which to this day I feel looks dull as hell).
£200 is very cheap, but a good price if they want to be competitive with Sony and Microsoft, as it seems the PS4 and XBO are getting better bundles every other week.
I hope this doesn't come with a significant sacrifice to the core system (power, battery, etc.!)
@Gorlokk I'd also love to see gen 1 re-remade, seeing as even the remakes Fire Red and Leaf Green are years older than Diamond and Pearl, and the oldest games not to have a remake.
Like other remakes you'd have updates to the mechanics. They could also pull a HGSS and add a few new Pokemon to the Pokedex, and make some slight alterations to the story.
RGBY to FRLG was a step up, but Gen 1 reimagined in full 3D, another 4+ generations onwards, could be massive.

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th July (North America)
A breather week between Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Fire Emblem for me, methinks.
Re: Nintendo Hosts Huge Summer Sale, Up To 70% Off Over 180 Games On Switch And 3DS (Europe)
Noice, although a shame that only Switch 1st party titles are on sale.
I'm gonna pick up One Piece Unlimited World Red.
Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo Switch Lite: What Are The Differences?
@Jin15 Gyro is different from IR. To my knowledge the only game that makes significant use of IR is Labo.
Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo Switch Lite: What Are The Differences?
@Krambo42 off the top of my head, you've got Labo, 1,2-Switch, and Super Mario Party.

Re: Pokémon's Junichi Masuda Explains The Decision To Limit Sword And Shield's Pokédex
@rjejr they have supported Bank for years and people have been using it for years. I don't see any trickery there.
Re: Pokémon's Junichi Masuda Explains The Decision To Limit Sword And Shield's Pokédex
Supporting an ever-increasing number of Pokemon in each game is unsustainable, so I'm sympathetic of this move.
Pokemon seems to be one of a few series where people demand that all content is available in every game...it simply isn't realistic.
Re: Pre-Orders Are Now Live For This Gorgeous Switch Zelda Controller
Lack of rumble's a deal breaker for me...

Resi games are £30 a pop but Dragon's Dogma is £25.
Why, Capcom?
Re: Octopath Traveler Makes The Leap To Mobile, New Console Game Will Take "A Little While Longer"
Probably not for me, but I don't really care. It's been less than a year since Octopath came out. We'll get a proper sequel when it's ready.

I don't think Sonic looks bad at all.
The realistic Pokemon in Detective Pikachu on the other hand...

@Mykillvee ...then play Super Mario Run?
Re: Feature: 17 Remasters We'd Love To See On Switch In 2019
Great list - I'd be happy with even one of these. Although I'd rather see TTYD than Super Paper Mario.

Xenoblade?

I... Actually agree with this list. Totally wasn't expecting that. Only thing I'd do is maybe move N64 and SNES down a slot each.
Re: Nintendo Switch Becomes The Fastest-Selling Console Of This Generation In The US
Impressive considering in the same time frame PS4 and XBO had experienced two Christmases, whereas the Switch has only experienced one.
This is what happens when Nintendo puts all their effort into a single system.

Re: Super Mario Run Has Made Just Over $60 Million To Date

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th May (Europe)
Hyrule Warriors and Fairune for me.
Hope I find the time, I'm yet to finish a Switch game released this year!

Way too high. As an enthusiast I'm put off a little by the price - I can't imagine what this would mean for the larger market.
The weak pound probably hasn't helped =/
