Re: Poll: Get Your Votes In For Nintendo's Game Of The Decade

Don't forget about Code Name S.T.E.A.M. everyone. Henry Fleming, Fox, Tom, and the rest of the team are counting on you. And don't forget Honest Abe and his giant 50 ft mech! Find it in the search bar and give it the 8's and 9's it deserves!

The way this game got panned for not having an overhead map and the length of the enemy turns was a bummer. If you watched the enemy turns (instead of just wishing you could skip them) you got a sense of where the enemies were located and what their strategy was. That mechanic and the lack of the map ID'ing the location of every enemy on the stage, made for one of my favorite tactical/strategy games ever. A great combination of stealth, positioning, and planning when to go all in with your special attacks. The characters and world building are a ton of fun, too. So many of these stages and battles are etched in my memory.

I dream of a sequel on the switch. . .

Re: New Nintendo Switch Trailer Shows Off Cross-Save Functionality With PC Games

@mossimac I picked it up in November and have played through the first act. It is amazing. Lots of menus, items, stats to sort through. It can feel overwhelming at times if you’re not into all that (or even if you are). But the combat, characters, voice acting (every character in the game including npc’s are fully voiced + plus a narrator), story and overall experience are all a lot of fun. I highly recommend it.

Re: Former Nintendo Of America President Reggie Says The Future Of Games Is In The Cloud

No!!!!!! Subscription services and cloud based models are bad for consumers. “Give us your money for access to content.” Once you stop you have nothing to show for the money you’ve spent. Its a power-play by corporations to force consumers to rent instead of buying.

I get it. Its their content. They have every right to do what they want and decide what access they grant to the content they own. But its not good for the consumer, or creating great experiences for the gamer. Its a consolidation of power and a fleecing of consumers.

There’s my doom and gloom forecast for the day!

Re: Review: Black Future '88 - A Frantic Cyberpunk Classic

@JasmineDragon I’m tempted to give it a try regardless off the time thing... but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t enjoy it. I wonder if the devs will ever offer the option to turn off the time limit. Or maybe that would break the game?

Dead Cells is great though. Wizard of Legend also a blast if you haven’t tried it.

Thanks for this review @sj33 This looks really good to me, but I am kind of old and don't like stress. When I play Dead Cells I never go for the timed gates, but explore each part of the map and aim to beat the enemies in each room. How does the 18 minute mechanic influence gameplay? Does success in the game have a 'speedrun' feel, or once I'm good enough is 18 minutes plenty of time to ascend the Skymelt?

Re: The First Patch For Link's Awakening Is Probably Not The Fix You Were Hoping For

I do notice some places are better with the framerate issue after this patch. Mabe Village for instance. Animal village seems better but not totally resolved. Maybe that’s why they didnt mention framerate issues in the patch notes? Has anyone else noticed improvement after the patch.

I love the game but I definitely am distracted by the FPS dips and wish you could turn off the bottom of the screen blur.

Re: Review: Wizard Of Legend (Switch eShop)

I had been watching this game for a while, and considering purchasing, but playing a lot of Dead Cells. When Nuclear Throne was announced for Switch, I decided to buy NT or Wizard of Legend. Went with Wizard of Legend, and I love it. I like it more than EtG, and Dead Cells. The combat is super satisfying and skills based. When I started I could hardly beat a single floor (level). Now I consistently make it to the last boss or just before. Still haven't beaten him yet though. Great game!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 8th)

@Likethepear Great! The game is huge, and at times its geared towards absolute chaos, (lots of items, explosions, unpredictable patterns of attack), but underneath all that there is beautiful core gameplay about movement and timing attacks. You could try doing a 3 or 4 person smash battle with no items to get the feel. Also, when you get knocked off the stage, you can double jump, and most characters B + up or B + right/left is designed to help them get back to the platform. Have fun!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 8th)

@Likethepear I'd say start with one character. Mario is a good all-around character. The game is very directional. All your attacks are A + direction (up or down or left or right), and your specials are B + direction. If you hold A + direction you will charge your attack making it more powerful. If you stick with one character you will start to get a feel for their moveset and strengths. And the game just grows in strategy and depth from there as you work in characters and other mechanics like dodging (RT + direction) and throws (R bumper to grab). Maybe that is helpful. I hope so. Because I love smash! If you find a friend or two you can pummel on as you learn together, that makes it all the more fun.

Re: Fans Are Calling Out Nintendo And Camelot For "Lazy" Mario Tennis Aces

If I had gotten the cartridge, I'd definitely be trading this in. Feels like a knock-off. Not a solid Nintendo effort. The core gameplay is great, but the lack of basic options kills the fun. And adventure mode is not good. I am wondering if Nintendo's efforts to release a steady stream of titles on Switch is affecting the quality of the games.

Re: Review: SteamWorld Heist (3DS eShop)

@MoonKnight7 @tealicious Yeah. Storyline and characters are great. And the ridiculous theme song on the start screen. Love it. It was crazy how exaggerated the enemy turn length was as well. I read one website say enemy turns took 5-10 minutes! (I never had one last anywhere close to 5, let alone 10 minutes.) I am glad we got the game and you have some good points about how Nintendo could have marketed it better, I just hope they haven't given up on the franchise. I would love a sequel!

I am excited to play 'Steamworld Heist' though. Maybe it will scratch a similar itch. Great to see it getting such good reviews. I picked up my copy yesterday and look forward to trying it out...
