Nintendo has released a brand new trailer for its Switch and Switch Lite systems, highlighting the way in which players can take their PC game save files with them on the go with select titles.
It's a feature which we hardly ever hear players talking about, possibly because the number of games that actually support it is relatively low, but it's very welcome nonetheless. Games like Divinity: Original Sin 2 which was featured in the video, and others like Fortnite and Smite, can be played with all the graphical power and comfort your PC provides at home, before being zapped to your Switch or Switch Lite so that you can pick up where you left off while travelling about.
Ironically, in some cases, it can actually be easier to cross-save from your Switch to PC than it is from your original Switch to Switch Lite. The latter can be a little bit of a nightmare, but we're definitely liking this trend of being able to play our games however we like, be it in handheld, on the TV, or even on the PC.
Do you tend to move your save file across devices? Would you like to see more games utilise this feature going forward? Tell us below.

lol damn you switch lite. Surprised no wargroove though, as the custom maps/games make it ideal to get all your friends in on it regardless of where they platform.
But does this mean that the game has to be available on both systems? If not, would this mean that the PC has to be on all the time? I don't know how this works, sorry. I have a really old PC and can't even buy games on Steam, because even the oldest ones can't run there.
If they did this with witcher 3 i might consider buying it.
Can we get cloud saves working across all games first? LOL
@Moroboshi876 You can't have cross-save with a non existing version.
Cross-save in Zelda is impossible since the game don't exist on PC.
Cross-Save is simple. When account for a game is linked with Nintendo account, the game will automatically load save-game from server no matter if you start it on Switch or PC.
I use cross-save alot in Destiny 2 between PC and Xbox One, but on PS4 too when i got a new achievement just to unlock it there.
Nice to see Nintendo adding more things like Microsoft do all the time.
Xbox app even shows install status of games on phone, shows all installed games, notification when a game is installing new patch etc.
@MrVariant Looks like Switch Lite have some more downgrades. I'm glad i don't own Lite.
Cross-platform with the Final Fantasy games would be great actually.
New Nintendo Switch Trailer Shows Off Cross-Save Functionality With PC Game*
The Divinity 2 dragon should come to Switch. That game is a true RPG. Villages to check for quests and turn into a dragon. Is one of their best. The newest Divinity went back to their roots original way. And those are too slow for my taste. But with Divinity 2 dragon you can't go wrong
A nice and welcomed feature.
As always, Nintendo Life comments are full of but's and what if's.
A bit disappointed this isn't possible with The Witcher 3. I like playing the PC version on my TV, but it'd be great to be able to carry my save over to the Switch version and continue playing "on the go."
I use it for Civilization VI, Paladins and Dauntless.
I wish Warframe supported it.
@Ventilator but did Nintendo really add anything? As far as I’m aware the company who worked on this game who has this feature did the work for cross save. The other games I’m aware of that do this you have to log in to an account which stores the save data and has nothing to do with Nintendo.
@Darkthany Really, this feature is dependent on the developers implementing it in the games. I wonder how many people will buy Switches thinking they will get cross save with their steam games now. Really shady on Nintendo’s part.
I didn't even know this was a feature, awesome!
Honestly this commercial got me considering purchasing Divinity for the first time. I don't play on PC, but the game looked sweet!
Wish the Witcher 3 did this.
@veesonic think it’s only a thing in few select games, and entirely implemented by the developer. Civilization does it too, as well as Minecraft, I think. And of course, some online games like Fortnite.
Pretty ironic that they advertise for thisnfeature when barely any games support it. Great feature though and if anything I hope it means other games will follow suit. I usually dont play games on multiple platforms for some reason but I did enjoy cross feature for MH3U on Wiiu and 3ds
So glad they showed this with the AWESOME game that is Divinity 2.
@mossimac It is amazing. If you like this kind of games (they really aren´t for everyone, check out how it is before you buy, it´s like a real rol playing game) you won´t regret it. Period.
@RPGenie Yes, you are right about that.
I really wish this was a more widespread thing.
Oh how I wish this was a thing for Skyrim... Granted, it'd have to be cross-save with the 360, but I would by the game on Switch in a heart beat if I could transfer my save...
For the Lite, they should just allow save transfers by wifi from the Original Switch. That would be easier and would be a good incentive to buy a Lite.
@mossimac I picked it up in November and have played through the first act. It is amazing. Lots of menus, items, stats to sort through. It can feel overwhelming at times if you’re not into all that (or even if you are). But the combat, characters, voice acting (every character in the game including npc’s are fully voiced + plus a narrator), story and overall experience are all a lot of fun. I highly recommend it.
@Brumblescope Thanks! Hopefully I'll get some gift cards for Christmas and pick it up!
