Re: Nihon Falcom Is Celebrating Its 40th Anniversary With A Special Broadcast

BionicDodo

I love Falcom as I love the Ys series. I've been hoping for a remake of Ys V (I've played the translated SNES game but I'd rate it just 'OK') and it would be nice if some of the games that are available on PSP and PC could come to console - like Ys I&II, Oath in Felghana and Ark of Napishtim. I expect Celceta will make its way to Switch at some point.

Re: Random: This Unused DS Lite Feature Would've Effectively Turned The Console Into A Switch

Having a video out on a portable device wasn't new when the Switch arrived. Hell, people have been docking laptops (or connecting VGA cables) to see them on a monitor for decades. I thought what made the Switch a 'hybrid' was the ability to also unclip the controllers and connect them together to make a wireless controller. And to use other wireless (or wired) controllers with it too (most handhelds are limited to single player). Playing on a handheld with a video cable hanging out the back is rarely comfortable.

Re: Switch Is Getting Its First NASCAR Game This Year

BionicDodo

Nascar games can be fun. Tracks may not have much in the way of corners, but there are so many cars that it's usually them that you're steering around. F1 games are usually too technical for me. I like racing where you can bump the other cars here and there. In F1 you bump a car and need to pit for new suspension and a new wing!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 23rd)

@Expa0 Hah, while I was writing my post saying that I'm playing Legend of Grimrock II on PC you posted to say you're playing LoG! Despite not having much experience in the genre, I loved the original so much that I bought the sequel on GOG when I finished it and am playing that one now. So far it seems to be similar but better in pretty much every way.

Re: The Artists Behind Streets Of Rage 4 Show Off What Garou: Mark Of The Wolves 2 Could Look Like

BionicDodo

I love pixel art, but I can also appreciate good HD 2D artwork and this looks nice. That said, this game, like SFIII, was all about the animation. Without seeing it in motion I can't really say if it is 'worthy' or not.

Mind you, they haven't exactly gone out there on the design as the characters pretty much look like they would if very clever AI removed all the pixelated edges and turned the original artwork into sharp HD graphics.

Re: Select Neo Geo Games On The Switch eShop Are Currently 50% Off

BionicDodo

@dojmin It's not really like that though as the UK is part of Europe. This is a UK site and the UK is covered by Nintendo of Europe and games are only on sale on the UK store when they go on sale on all European eShops. I agree that they should probably stick prices up in Dollars, Pounds and Euros though.

Re: Random: This Switch-Style Mini-PC Takes A Leaf Out Of Nintendo's Book

BionicDodo

While I'm sure Nintendo has inspired other companies to look at cashing in on the success of the Switch, just like the NES Mini they were definitely not the first ones to the table with the actual idea. I had multiple controllers that could clamp to a phone or tablet years before the Switch appeared. It's not like docking stations to allow a screen to connect to a portable PC are exactly a new thing either. Don't get me wrong, Nintendo nailed it (with both Switch and NES Mini) and others took notice, but they didn't really come up with a revolutionary concept. Arguably the most original aspects of the Switch design were the ability for the JoyCons to join together into a controller for TV play or to be two separate controllers for multiplayer. Oddly, these seem to be the least copied ideas.

Re: Spelunky 1 And 2 Are Both Coming To Nintendo Switch

BionicDodo

Yes! Yes! Yes! I absolutely loved Spelunky on Vita. When Spelunky 2 came to PS4 I held off as the original was such a delight to play on a portable system. I nearly caved in when it went on sale recently but am glad I didn't as the Switch feels like the natural home for it.

Re: Hey Anime Lovers, Funimation Is Seemingly Teasing Its App For Switch

BionicDodo

Never really thought much about media apps on Switch. Didn't even know YouTube was available! I would never use it for streaming docked as I have other devices and I wouldn't want a 720p portable streaming device.

On a different subject, 'binge' is one of the most overused words in the English language these days. Its use above is a perfect example of how it is put into sentences for the sake of it.

Re: Turrican Flashback Blasts Its Way Onto Switch In December

BionicDodo

I will definitely pick this up as it will probably cover my Turrican needs, but it's a shame it doesn't include Turrican 3 or Super Turrican 2. The other collections are more complete but are sadly very expensive given that they're split across two releases rather than on a single cartridge (these games would all fit onto one 8GB cartridge).

Re: Feature: Evercade's Latest Cart Is Offering A Vital Connection To Nintendo History

BionicDodo

I love my Evercade and have been really enjoying this collection. Have played a lot of Super Robin Hood and Dizzy the Adventurer so far. Man, the music in Dizzy the Adventurer is seriously painful though!

Some people moan about build quality of the Evercade (I saw an online reviewer unfavourably comparing it to his £800 iPhone), but you can get it for £55 with an 11 game cartridge. It's not likely to feel like a premium device for that price! It's cheap and cheerful and is about one thing only: good old fashioned games.
