I have no interest in Fortnight, but they have done this well and the JoyCon colours are great. The idea of owning a console branded with a game that won't be playable on it down the line when the servers have shut down seems weird to me though. But then, I guess the people buying this will have dumped their Switch in an attic by the time the servers are shutdown.
@scully1888 Ignore the bribe junk, people are obsessed with all journos being corrupt, because some anonymous commenter on the internet told them it's so.
Genuine question though - If the game is much the same as last year - a game that was recently available for the price of a sandwich - do you feel the new game genuinely contains enough new content to command a £50 price tag? This site was very harsh on the last FIFA game for being essentially identical to the previous year's game.
Given how little they change in these annual releases, and the fact that they drop the price to about £1.99 towards the end of each season, I have no idea who goes out and buys these games at full price on launch.
The Switch will be 4 years old next year, so I expect another new model will come fairly soon and I doubt we'll get a Switch 2 for several more years. If they could drop a new Pro model at £280 with the original Switch taking a big price cut I think that would be a decent move as Sony and Microsoft release their new machines.
I'd grab a new Switch with a built in 1080P OLED screen. If it has a bit more oomph under the hood to run games at 1080/60 in portable then I'd definitely buy it. I've still got enough of a games backlog to not need a completely new machine.
I don't really care that much about game cards. The biggest plus with physical games is that you can sell them on if you wish to. As this software is a free download for anyone, you can still sell the kart on if you get bored with it.
Given how small the file sizes of these games are there is no real justification for releasing them in two separate volumes. Look at how many games there were on the single Sega Mega Drive Collection.
Hmmm.... I love all things Wonder Boy but I'm not exactly blown away by the look of this. I feel like the original game's visuals had a lot more charm to them. This looks pretty cheaply done.
I enjoyed playing one of the previous Golf Club games on Xbone, so will definitely pick this up at some point. I've read about quite a few annoying bugs in this version though, so will wait for a few patches and a price drop before biting.
I would love to see many of Sega's 90s arcade games make a return, but I understand that it isn't as simple as it may seem to us. A release like Virtua Racing, or the PS3/360 release of Daytona USA, costs more to convert/update than a Mega Drive or early 2D arcade game does and I can only assume that neither of those games sold particularly well. A few hundred people on gaming website forums clamouring for a release does not necessarily equal lots of sales and a profit.
Look, our main competition has taken an incredibly popular system lightly and it has backfired with negative press and poor sales. They're on the ropes, so we should capitalise now by doing....absolutely nothing. Good work Konami.
@Toshiro_Baloney I have similar feelings to @chickje on this game. Its OK and fun for half an hour but I had forgotten I owned it until I saw this article! Don't know if there have been any updates to it since I last played, but I also found the CPU opposition really hard to beat (and the game wasn't enjoyable enough to make me want to put in the time to 'git gud'). The NHL games on the Mega Drive are still much better than this. Can't see how anyone could justify $40 for a physical copy. I paid about £4 or something digitally.
Worth noting though that the violence/blood levels can be turned down in the menu if you find it too distracting.
I've been tempted by this a few times, but the lack of wireless is annoying as it rules out FlipGrip use. I really wish the FlipGrip had some way of connecting the JoyCon rails to the sides (at least if the left hand rail was connected the Hori D-Pad JoyCon would work with it).
I also feel like the addition of wireless and an accessory to click the two halves together would have made it a decent controller for playing in TV mode too.
@PlayedNSlayed If you're looking for an FPS that's all action like DOOM, then I recommend Bulletstorm. I haven't tried it on Switch but played through it on PS4 and it was a good silly fun shooter.
It is worth noting that the PS2 had a ridiculous number of games released, many many major titles from all the big publishers bar Nintendo. Nintendo Switch has fewer original major titles than the PS2 had. Also, Nintendo's biggest selling games are often likely to outsell competitors' as there is always a heavy skew towards Nintendo games sales on Nintendo console, versus sales of games by other publishers. The true stat would be total software sales for the consoles.
While the eShop could clearly do with a refresh, I don't use any of the storefronts on my consoles to find out about games. I use the Internet. It's filled with news, reviews, pictures and videos of games. The biggest issue I have with the eShop is that there's no basket feature if you wish to buy multiple games at once.
I use psprices.com and eshop-prices.com to track discounts and deals and which the best eShop to purchase a game off is.
When these completely flop, I will buy one if they hit ridiculously cut down prices and then keep it sealed in its box. Maybe it'll be worth something to collectors one day.
Interesting! The presence of Virtua Fighter makes me excited to see what the other unannounced games are. Hope there are more from that era and not just older games.
@Ogbert Most people I know seem to have watched it, despite me being the only person I know who is into basketball. It also stayed near the top of the Netflix UK Top 10 most watched programmes list for its entire run, despite basketball not getting much publicity in the UK. Jordan is still a big draw worldwide and the series was a great watch.
Good effort with the additions for this one. Keep the game feeling like it always did but with some nice QOL features to use up the empty screen real estate.
Given Falcom's strong support of the PSP and Vita over the years, I expected to see all the Ys and Trails games turn up on Switch after Ys VIII got released. Surprised to see that so few have so far.
They should have brought over I and II of this first as it makes no sense to start with part III.
I started this on Xbone but found it a bit boring and haven't gone back to it. I reckon games like this would work best in VR, but very few 'walking simulators' actually seem to support it.
Yeah, this isn't really a new thing now, is it? No Nintendo game costs £59.99 on release day at sites like Amazon or Base. I didn't even pay full price for Breath of the Wild at launch. Outside of sales, the eShop is always the most expensive place to buy games. Other than Limited Run style physical releases of course...
The NA and Japanese ones are great but the European cover is just a slightly worse version of the NA cover. After some deliberation I went for the NA cover as I like the badguy image.
Loved this gameon PC when it first came out and recently picked it up for £5 on Xbone. Find it quite blurry on there too to be honest, but still loving playing it again.
Yay, I'd been asking for this one as I loved the game when I was younger, and I like all of the covers. Gotta go with the Japanese one here as it does such a great job of showing the dirty, dark futuristic world of Shadowrun.
I have often found myself using the term 'Day 1' on here for games that I subsequently buy a while later when on sale, but Raiden is a legitimate day 1 purchase. I will never tire of that game.
@Damo Hold on a second there! They're not flip-flops, as flip-flops have to flip and flop up and down from the heel as you walk. These mostly stay put as they have a larger and more rigid top covering than the thin strip and 'thong' of flip-flops. I've mostly heard them called pool shoes myself.
Is 91 the one that was on the Master System? That's a great game. Despite all the incredible shmups that have been released over the years, there's still an addictive purity to that game. I also love Galaga 88 for the same reason. More recently I really enjoyed Titan Attacks!.
Ah, the wonderful overly connected world that we live in. A Japanese journalist from a Japanese gaming magazine announces that he has some exciting news about SEGA and then people in other countries are angry that this is not relevant to them.
There are many classics in the collection, but it really needs some more RPGs. When I think of the SNES it is the role play games that really made it stand out from the Mega Drive and it would be good to see more of them on this service (especially as I don't view the Breath of Fire games as being among the best).
Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV & VI, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Shadowrun, Terranigma, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time (aka Gaia), Secret of Evermore, Lufia I & II, Star Ocean...
I love this genre and the gameplay sounds great, so I will pick this up on sale down the line, but I'm not really a fan of the shiny plastic action figure looking characters.
Haven't picked MK11 up yet but will pick the complete version up at some point on sale. I generally wait on fighting games these days as they inevitably get heavy levels of DLC. Probably the only one I still bite on day 1 is KoF.
@SuperWeird I'm not sure why you are targeting this fact at me though. I have not played the Wii versions or commented on them at any point here. I just stated that great as the Hamster releases are, they don't suddenly make the games high definition, they just look good on an HDTV as they are properly displayed and upscaled.

So, just how many versions (and sequels) of this game are there, and which is the best? I know of games on...
Arcade
Game Boy
Game Boy Advance
Neo Geo
NES
PC Engine
Super Famicom
I seem to remember the PC Engine one being very good.
