Annoyingly, by the time I discovered this series the NES book wasn't available in hardback so I had to get the paperback. I then picked up the paperback of the SNES book so they'd fit together on my shelf. And now I'm stuck in the irritating situation where I have to wait ages after each book releases for the paperback edition to come out. I want this one so much!
I opened this article thinking "Cool, Magical Drop IV" only to discover they're up to VI!
A quick look on Wikipedia reminded me that there was a Japanese exclusive 4th game on the PS1 called Magical Drop F, but I had never heard of Magical Drop V. Will definitely keep an eye on this one as I've always loved III.
Joe & Mac are/were fine, but I really do feel like the industry has either hit a serious creativity block at this point, or has just grown to the point where there are far more coders than creative people. They've got past remaking the great games, then the good/important ones and now they're just remaking/remastering everything. And journalists describing everything old as being a 'classic' doesn't help!
The perfect way to build hype for this would be a Bubble Bobble Collection that includes Bubble Bobble/Symphony/Memories, Rainbow Islands, Parasol Stars and the Puzzle Bobble games.
@DarthXenos Thanks for the input. It's a shame as I like the idea of the game and it feels like something I'd have loved back in my 4-player GoldenEye days.
I've still never played a Splatoon game. I don't ever play online and rarely have anyone to play locally with, so generally avoid multiplayer focused games. Is there enough single player content in the Splatoon games to make it worth a purchase? I usually wait for games light on single player content to drop in price drastically before diving in, but Nintendo games never drop that far.
Someone my brother knew had been saving a very old and expensive bottle of wine for a very special occasion. They finally decided to open it, with my brother present, and everyone sipped their glasses to discover... it tasted absolutely awful! It had unfortunately spoiled and the whole bottle went down the drain. Whoops!
I do wish articles labelled 'Poll' were an actual poll and not just an attempt to get us to click onto loads of different pages to get that sweet ad revenue flowing. I know you guys need to keep the lights on, but still...
Anyway, I haven't played the new one (which looks great) so I'm going to go with TMNT on GBA.
Everything I see of this game makes me want to play it, but I am yet to play any Xenoblade game and I just can't see myself managing to find the time to complete them given their mammoth lengths. Everyone seems so excited for it/happy to be playing it but I've got 120-200 hours of gameplay ahead to even get to the start!
As a man in his 40s with older brothers I can't be sure what the first game was. Some early memories...
Snapper (Pac-Man clone) for Acorn Electron Boxer for Acorn Electron Sopwith for DOS (on a Zenith Data Systems laptop with a blue/white screen that my dad brought home from work)
I definitely remember my first console games though... Our parents bought us a Master System with Wonder Boy in Monster Land (brilliant) and Altered Beast (not so brilliant).
I've only played the PC Engine version of this but it's a really good game. I guess it isn't as famous as the original Spirit as it's quite similar. Will pick this version up as I do love a dragon.
I'd be up for a new Donald Duck game if it were good. While we're talking Mickey and Donald, I'd also buy a collection of the Sega/Disney games from Sega's 8/16-bit consoles: The Illusion trilogy, Lucky Dime Caper, Deep Duck Trouble from the Master System and Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion and QuackShot from the Mega Drive.
@OorWullie There was also a game for PC, X360 and PS3 back in 2013 called Thunder Wolves that played quite a bit like the Strike games, although with a much sillier tone. I bought it for 79p in the current Steam sale and have been enjoying it in small sessions.
@OorWullie I agree! Given how almost everything seems to get a re-release, remake or remaster these days, surely a Strike Collection is deserving of a release? With the 16-bit trilogy and the two 32-bit entries (Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike) there would be plenty of content for the package. They could also throw in Future Cop LAPD (it started life as Future Strike) and some alternate versions of the games - like the Master System Desert Strike and N64 Nuclear Strike. I'd buy it!
@Dualmask If it is handheld you're after then I guarantee these will play much better with the Steam Deck's track pad mouse than they would on Switch anyway, regardless of performance issues. I was really pleasantly surprised at just how well Grim Dawn controlled on Steam Deck with the right track pad controlling the pointer.
I've seen these for years on sites like Etsy, so it's surprising there haven't been more officially licensed ones out there. They're the kind of thing that would do well on actual shelves where they can catch your eye and you can really see how the layering makes them pop.
The menu music on the Mega Drive Mini is indeed fabulous. Yuzo Koshiro is an absolute legend and is largely responsible for many of the best game soundtracks of all time.
I like having physical games to sit on the shelf, but I just can't get on board with the price that getting these Limited games sent to the UK costs, especially for games that are otherwise available so cheaply. And that's before the whole issue or when will they actually get sent out. I picked both KotOR games up on PC for a total of £5, so that'll do for me.
These releases are a tough one as I really want the NGPC Collection 2, so won't buy the standalone digital releases, but if lots of people do that I hope they don't see it as a lack of demand and stop releasing them.
I have Rockman Battle & Fighters for NEOGEO Pocket Color in excellent condition with all inserts. When I saw it going for over £200 on eBay I sealed it in a plastic bag and put it away. I don't ever sell my old games, but I never actually play this one, so I may have to cash in and spend the money on even more games!
Neither is perfect. The art on the NA/Europe one is pretty badly drawn but I quite like the vibe and the setting. The Japanese one is better drawn, but what the hell is with that big yellow 2 in some ill fitting font?
Looks quite fun, and I'm always up for a new Wario Land type game, but I'm not huge on the art design, especially the main character who looks a bit of a mess.
Yeah, I'm with the side that think filming concerts is quite selfish. Trying to watch a gig while dozens of brightly illuminated phone screens wave around in the way is quite annoying. I also don't really get what people do with the footage (other than stick it on YouTube to get 12 views as mentioned above). Do people really sit down later to enjoy watching their poor quality video/audio recording of half a song at a gig they went to?
Played through the original version on Xbox One last year and absolutely loved it. Fabulous atmosphere that will go down well with anyone who likes their fiction of the Stephen Kingy variety.
@dewokkel I would love to be in the position to ignore my Switch due to my heavy Steam Deck usage... but they still haven't invited me to purchase one! The annoying thing is that I was there the second the pre-orders went live and got through to the payment page before it crashed... over and over again. Eventually got through after 45 minutes and am still waiting for the email to say I can actually buy the thing!
Overall though, the Steam Deck is always likely to be a fairly niche product and have very little impact on Nintendo's sales. I know multiple Switch owners and none of them even knew the Steam Deck existed before I mentioned the fact that I'd pre-ordered one.
I think it looks great and I can't wait to play it. Sadly people mistake the loudest and angriest Twitter ranters for being the biggest fans. This isn't true, spending your days raging about things on Twitter or internet forums doesn't make you the biggest fan of anything, it just means you've got nothing better to do with your life.
Will definitely pick this up on cart. My dream unlockable extras would be Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, Knuckles Chaotix and the Master System and Game Gear games.
Funnily enough, I played through the MD version of Valis today on Evercade. It's a pretty fun game, with great music (although there were some sound issues on the Evercade) but movement is too slow and the dialogue in the cut scenes moves at a ridiculously slow rate. Still, it's one of 12 games (including Valis 3) in a physical collection that costs £17.99, so it feels like a better value proposition than these releases.
