The award-winning RPG from developer ZA/UM has had its Switch release confirmed for next year in the form of updated version: Disco Elysium: The Final Cut.
We've known since earlier this year that a Switch port was in the works, but ZA/UM has now confirmed a Summer 2021 release window in a PR release following the appearance of the above trailer at this year's TGAs.
Described as the 'Definitive edition" of the open-world tale, Disco Elysium takes inspiration from old-school Infinity Engine RPGs and casts you as a detective trying to solve a murder in a war-ravaged city. The game won multiple awards last year for its story and we've been itching to play it on Nintendo's console, so it's great to see the Switch version is still a going concern, even if we have to wait a bit longer than Playstation owners (don't worry — Xbox Series X/S gamers are in the same boat).
Wondering exactly what this 'Final Cut' will bring to the table over the original release? Let's take a look through some of some edited bullet points from the PR blurb:
New Political Vision Quests: Face the reality of your worldview as your political compass leads you down new paths. Discover more citizens, a whole extra area, and monumental sights as you leave an even bigger mark on the world by chasing your dreams.
Full Voice Acting: All of the city's beautiful people are brought to life with full voiceover. Play characters against each other, try to help them, or fall hopelessly in love as each word is spoken to you with the appropriate accent and emotion.
Improved Playability: Full controller support and customisation lets you play with your preferred setup. Enjoy an expanded range of language options.
Real Role-playing: Customise your character with wildly different skills, clothing items, and tools – from guns to a flashlight and a boombox. Develop new ideas in the detective’s Thought Cabinet to change how you approach and handle each situation.
Unprecedented Freedom: Death, sex, taxes, and disco – nothing is off the table in this open world. Solve a massive murder investigation, or relax and kick back with sprawling side-cases. Disco Elysium’s revolutionary dialogue system lets you do almost anything.
Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will apparently be £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 if you purchase digitally, although super fans of the game might be interested in the Collector's Edition exclusive to iam8bit which includes the following goodies for an eye-watering $249.99:
- Innovative ‘Layers of the Id’ Premium Box
- Hand-Painted ‘Mind Totem’ Vinyl Sculpture
- 190+ Page Hardbound Art Book feat. Oodles of Previously Unreleased Art and Stories
- Illustrated Fabric Map of the District of Martinaise
- Physical Edition of Disco Elysium with Reversible Cover, Housed in an Elegant Slipcase
- Region Free - Worldwide Compatibility
- Available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch

The later release date is a shame, particularly as this looks very well suited to Switch. I think I'll be able to wait though - this game looks absolutely phenomenal, and I'm looking forward to playing it next year!
played this on pc and i can only say that the game will definitely be worth the wait
Although that collector's edition is super expensive, they'll probably end up doing a standard physical release that is not exclusive to their site, like they have with the two Ori games.
Edit: iam8bit did confirm that a standard retail release will come in 2021.

Why is it the switch version is being pushed back to summer 2021.
250 for a collector’s edition...
I’ll get the regular physical edition for sure!
@Rpg-lover not really pushed back, since this is the first time they mention a release window.
But I guess because they want to do it right.
Sad with such a late release. It will probably sell better on Switch than on Xbox/PS4, and still it is lower prioritized. Well, Im waiting for the Switch version.
@Friendly ohh okay! Sound good enough for me, if so then.
@Friendly almost the cost of a new switch console 😁
@RasandeRose i have it on PC, but i want that portability badly.
I mean, I've waited this long to play it. A few extra months won't kill me.
@Rpg-lover i know, right!
Bit expensive. But iam8bit apparantly often is. Ori came with a 150 dollar price tag... But I think that game has a larger fanbase than Disco Elysium.
We’ll see.
Looking forward to this!
Wow this is a big one! I have heard nothing but great things about this game.
So happy about this. Really can’t wait to find out more about Disco Elysium on Switch. Really hoping the gameplay experience is comparable with the PC version of the game!
@Friendly ori does have a huge fan base no doubts about that.
Golly, the wait already felt too long. Day 1 when it comes to Switch for me.
Hard pass on the CE. Looks like $100-worth of stuff for $250 (lol), iam8bit is crazy asking that much for a CE in these dark times. But I'll be there day one for a standard copy.
Cool, there's no rush.
@RupeeClock This is the comment your referring to, right? https://twitter.com/iam8bit/status/1337219992543105024
Very excited for this. Glad I waited on purchasing!
At one point, I had never heard of this game what so over, then suddenly it won a crap ton of awards and I realized I had gone too far down my Nintendo hole that I didn't even notice it.
Glad to hear that I don't have to come out of my Nintenhole, and rather Disco Asylum will come meet me down here.
I'll end up buying for PS4 and Switch, I imagine.
@Kochambra
That's right. iam8bit only confirmed it in replies to other comments, rather than a dedicated tweet.
I hadn't heard of this game until it started raking in awards, so I've been curious ever since. I'm glad that it's coming to the Switch, and that there's a physical release to boot.
Great game and a must play. The writing and art are fantastic.
It’s just brilliant. As many people as possible should play it.
At least we can get a standard in 2021....the whopper is more then I can handle right now.
Definitely gonna check this out come summer time.
Ever since I watched RagnarRox's video on this game I have wanted to play it and I still plan on waiting for the Switch version.
Good news.
Anyone know if pillars of eternity 2 is still coming to switch ? I know the first got a lot of bad press but I thought it superb
@RasandeRose seems quite a trend, actually. Just look at Bloodstained; sold more on the Switch than anywhere else, and still was less cared about than the rest.
