@Ralek85 My copy arrived yesterday and it is indeed a beautiful book! Not sure it will top the CRPG one though as that had such a perfect combination of facts and personal stories and passion.
1. What were the production costs of the game compared to games like Odyssey and BotW? How big were the teams etc? Are these costs reflected in their relative prices?
2. How much content is there in the game? Does the game balance out its lack of complex 3D worlds with a wealth of content?
3. How does the content and quality compare to all of the wonderful £15-£25 2D indie games?
Did I imagine that Sensible World of Soccer was announced for Switch once? Was that a thing? Did I dream it? If I did dream it then at least the Mega Drive version of Sensi is coming to Evercade soon.
I looked up Fitness Boxing 2 on Amazon the other day to see how much it retailed for and, other than the game, all of the listings were for variations on the knuckleduster accessory from random 3rd party sellers.
He reminds me of some manga writer/artists who put so much of their energy into their work with such massive expectations from fans that their health suffers. An early retirement might not be a bad idea. Good luck to him.
I don't see how not banning and censoring is in any way 'worse', their only issue is not caring about the quality of the games that hit the eShop. As for this game, the word is clearly just there to grab attention (mission accomplished) and get some sales.
I'd be OK with two separate collections if they included these games:
Collection 1 - Sonic 1-3, Knuckles, CD, Master System and Game Gear games, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic Pocket Adventure, Sonic Advance 1-3 and Sonic Rush 1 & 2.
Collection 2 - Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations.
Started playing this today on Xbox Game Pass and really enjoying it. I didn't expect it to, but it just grabbed me.
@scully1888 Can the right analogue stick be used for acceleration in this? Having played with analogue triggers on Xbox I can't imagine playing it with a digital accelerator. Apologies if you mentioned it somewhere and I managed to miss it!
@JJ_Brum I've nearly bought that book a few times. How's the quality? I've got a few Hardcore Gaming 101 books and some of them have pretty low quality screenshots and are filled with typos and spelling mistakes. Their Japanese Video Game Obscurities book on the other hand is great quality and seems to be free of the typos.
I would love a new 3D DK game. If it's going to be 2D then it needs to be completely different from the DKC series, like how Donkey Kong on the Game Boy was.
Maybe get a small team somewhere to do a quick HD remaster of DKCR too while you're at it. Then you'd be able to play all five DKC games on the Switch.
To be fair, even first party Switch games cost less than SNES games and that's without even factoring in inflation. Even these new £70 PS5 games are actually cheaper than SNES games were when you take account of inflation. So I wouldn't say that games are really getting more and more expensive. Given all of the incredible games available at budget sale prices I'd say there's never been a cheaper time to be a gamer. No one had a backlog when I was younger!
@Rhaoulos The 'paper' is so expensive because it's self developing, it's not just a blank canvas for a device to spray ink onto. The printer doesn't contain ink cartridges and you never have to buy ink or replace anything in the printer itself, it just needs the special paper.
This was an incredibly impressive port. I would say that R-Type was actually one of the arcade games that received the most astonishing ports in general - what was managed on the Master System and PC Engine was quite breathtaking.
I don't get the complaints that this game shouldn't be judged by today's standards. Of course it should! It is a new release for a modern console in 2021! It is a lot easier to understand what a game's score means if all games are treated the same rather than judged against when they were originally released. People who are familiar with this game already don't need a review to aid their decision and people who have never played it benefit from a rose tinted specs free view.
If Pong were to be released as a standalone game on Switch should it get an automatic 10 for being the pinnacle of gaming at the time of its original release?
I feel like there should be some kind of joke here about polishing a turd, but I rather liked my Wii, in spite of the SD output and forced waggle in many of the games.
Which reminds me, when am I getting a sequel to Zack & Wiki?
@duffmmann So far there are four Evercade cartridges that do indeed feature modern retro inspired indie games (although perhaps not as high profile as the ones you mention).
Xeno Crisis and Tanglewood
Mega Cat Studios Collection 1
Mega Cat Studios Collection 2
Indie Heroes Collection
The two Atari Lynx cartridges also feature some late to the party games made for the Lynx (as in games made this millennium).
As someone who owns an Evercade and almost all of the cartridges released so far (shout out to Football Madness from the new Piko Interactive 2 cartridge for being so unbelievably bad that I actually quite enjoy it!), I am all over this.
I doubt these are actually targeted at kids or put on shelves in the children's department. The Doctor Who ones were in the adult section of my local bookshop. It's a bit like all those mock Famous Five books that you get these days, like 'Five Give Up the Booze'. Those books have the Enid Blyton signature on the front but obviously aren't written by Blyton and are aimed at adults who read the Five books when they were children.
I never really liked the Mario Lego sets as Mario doesn't really look like a proper Mario or a proper Lego figure. This one is even worse though as it looks like a green version of the Mario figure.
It's funny, but I actually looked this game up on Wikipedia earlier to see if there was ever a PC port as I'd like to play it again but would prefer a higher resolution than the Wii version (Generations on PC plays great in 4k/60fps). After seeing there wasn't I decided to play it on the Wii U... Maybe I'll wait and see how this pans out before starting it.
Not a great sign for the company as let's be honest, this doesn't look like a game that should need much more than a year's development time, so for it to be delayed a further 2 years...
I don't get the point of this release. This game is available in the Konami Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection which has been available for less than this single release costs and contains seven other games. So many classic arcade titles Hamster could be releasing ahead of this one.
I'm interested in both this and the Duo, but I'm trying to get my head around what all the trade/tax disputes between UK and US will mean for fees on top of the original price and shipping costs. Assuming I ever actually get the opportunity to buy either of course!
@BulkSlash To be fair, this one will also play Game Gear, PC Engine and NEOGEO Pocket games with the use of adapters.
@1UP_MARIO I have thought about picking one up (along with an NTSC console), but Everdrives themselves aren't cheap and I love chunky N64 cartridges with their colourful labels and you don't get that with a flashcart.
I got a cheap RGB mod kit for my UK N64 (etim one) and as an owner of an OSSC I'm all good. The RGB is better than s-video and I didn't need to spend another £100+ on the HDMI adapter. OSSC has got cheaper recently too.
Note: I would love to get a US N64, but I have loads of Pal N64 games and just can't afford to start my collection again. Wish N64 was like my Master System, Mega Drive, SNES and Saturn and could just be forced to play UK games at 60Hz.
Started Huntdown on Switch today. Playing with an arcade stick and having a blast. At some point this weekend I am going to finally dive into the new System Shock remake demo on PC.
@Xylnox It's a typo, the original game is called Beneath a Steel Sky. It's a great old school point and click adventure and is available for free now on PC (from GOG, Steam or various other places).

Re: Video: Are 2D Games Worth $60? Jon, Alex And Zion Share Their Own Thoughts
For me it comes down to 3 things...
1. What were the production costs of the game compared to games like Odyssey and BotW? How big were the teams etc? Are these costs reflected in their relative prices?
2. How much content is there in the game? Does the game balance out its lack of complex 3D worlds with a wealth of content?

Re: Review: Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX - Vintage Sega Hero In Mediocre Remake
It's hard to justify buying this at the moment as the AGES version is £2.50 on the eShop right now.
I was a big Master System fan back in the day but never really got into this game back then. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World on the other hand...
Re: 'Castlevania Advance Collection' Possibly Revealed By Rating In Australia
I was hoping they would strip the touchscreen stuff out of the DS games and give us a GBA & DS collection, but I'll take the GBA games as a starter!

This is actually pretty sweet. Slightly surprised Link's Awakening doesn't offer the DX version as an option though.

Re: Cruis'n Blast Could Be Coming To Nintendo Switch
I always thought the Cruis'n series was just a Midway thing. Had no idea that Nintendo were involved.
