This week's Arcade Archives release from Hamster is Thunder Dragon. A top-down shoot 'em up released by NMK in 1991.
Your mission is to pilot a combat helicopter, known as the "Thunder Dragon", and stop a group of mad scientists who have taken over an automated weapon of destruction. Along the way, you'll utilise four different types of shots as well as powerful bombs to save humanity.
As usual, it'll set you back $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29 (or your regional equivalent). Here are some screenshots from the official PR:

Oh awesome. Not played this in years!
Yes TATE mode here I come again.
Have this on Mame but will be nice on Switch:)
Cool! I'm not expert in shoot'em ups at all, but I do like them.
I might grab this.
lackluster shooters are here to stay.
Interesting! NMK also made P47 and Saint Dragon... I wonder if we will see those. I remember both of them feeling a bit intriguing at the time, but I never got to try them.
@Ooyah P47 is already released as an Arcade Archives title
@Ooyah Saint Dragon is a ready part of the Arcade Archives selection (and one I have been enjoying on my Switch)
@YANDMAN what makes you think this lackluster?
@Gerald @michaelf
Oh! Oops!!! That will teach me not to check things!!! How embaraskin! 😆 Cheers, guys... I will definitely have to check those two out.
I haven't heard of it before but going by the screenshots, it's a good looking shmup. I'll check it out once I finish work and likely buy it.
I'm already planning to treat myself to a 9000 yen Eshop card this weekend. Going to buy ESP ra.di psi and G-Darius. Might get Cotton Reboot too.
That is clearly a picture of a Cheyenne dropship from Aliens, with a few tweaks an colour change. I love old video game artwork, you can steal anything and make a game from it. Will check some gameplay of this one out.
This looks like a good Raiden clone. Will probably pick it up at some point soon.
There's a good review of the game below if anyone is interested.

Big, chunky pixel sprites and explosions, I like! The music kinda rocks too!
@Bass_X0 He tends to dump on games he doesn't like the look of or not familiar with and with no specific explanation why, either. So usually the random Arcade Archives releases. This time though, I'll say scoring is kinda mediocre, but only because this came out before companies started to focus on more complex scoring mechanics. Everything else is pretty good from what I've seen.
@FargusPelagius Here's a preview
Hmm... I like what I see from footage but it seems a liiiitle to bullet hellish for my tastes-- Those flashing white bullets will probably mop the floor with me lol. Damn my love for vertical shooters.
I like the look of this one but why can we not get proper FPS games? The quality of what is out there is poor or its a FTP scam.
Hell yes, this game is so good and the sequel is amazing.
Not familiar with this one but I’m gonna grab it because it looks great!! And it’s from the 90’s so something a bit newer! Go Hamster!!!
@Ooyah I forget if it was NMK or UPL who also made a horizontal shooter called USAAF (Air Force), or Fire Mustang as it was called for the Japanese Mega Drive.
Another shooter only memorable for its odd history (MAME has a bootleg that for whatever reason had Raiden music inserted, and also the strangeness that a Japanese developer made a WW2-themed shooter, only a few years after apparently Capcom got some dislikes for making the 1942 series over there).
I remember seeing this somewhere in the Philippines when I was little.
I'm not good at the old school shooters, so the ones I like are those you can continue making progress through the game without having to start the stage or game again when you run out of lives. The graphics look decent enough, so when its ever on sale I may be interested in downloading it. I don't pay full price for the arcade archives games as none so far have gotten my attention enough that I had to play it on day one.
Nice! Keep the 90's games coming!
One of the better ACA shooters, pretty forgiving for a coin-op.
@Bass_X0 In the fact that it is.
