Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Stellar Battles, But A Step Down From Arceus

BigRed40

I'm not as down on the city setting as others (though I do understand their grievances), but I think ultimately this will come down to how lived in the city feels. The new battle system seems just what was needed for gameplay innovation from what I've read, but the real moment for me will be when Pokemon actually feel like they truly inhabit the world as living creatures and not just wandering models. Excited for release and even more for what is around the corner in Feb...

Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer

BigRed40

Corporations are incentivized to prioritize profit? Wow. Shocking. More news at 9.

In all seriousness, I don't like this development, and I understand the frustration, but all this moralism about "consumer rights" is so baloney to me. No one is being scammed, and you are not entitled to consumer products, just as Nintendo is not entitled to your money. The reality that most gamers (or consumers writ large) are unwilling to accept is that companies wouldn't pursue these so called "anti-consumer" practices...if it wasn't making (or saving) them boat loads of money with consumers!

Re: First Impressions: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is An Attempt To Catch The Hardcore Again

BigRed40

Pretty confused by some of the discourse in the comments. People are disappointed with the removal of turn-based combat but also frustrated that Pokemon isn't evolving fast enough?

For my part, I'm a bit skeptical of the city setting too, but this preview did a bit to relieve my concerns about the new combat mechanics. The graphics are still a bit lackluster and I do miss the watercolor feel, but this game definitely looks and runs better than PLA which is a great sign. Hoping Gen X continues down this direction and really takes their time to deliver the game we have all been waiting for.

Re: Nintendo's Teasing Mario Kart World's Rainbow Road, But You'll Have To Work For It

BigRed40

@N00BiSH I feel like I'm missing something because rights are typically things that are inalienable and universal (rainbow road being immediately available), while privileges usually refer to things that you get as a reward and can be withheld/taken away (you have to accomplish something to get rainbow road).

Unless you're making a joke, in which case, I feel a a bit silly lol.

Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo

BigRed40

Very surprised about all the disdain for these two in the comments. Their commentary is way more interesting and insightful to me than most of the slop on YT that gets treated as "content". Sure, they're not always right, but they usually offer pretty unique perspectives with pretty substantive reasons.

It'd be one thing if they marketed themselves as like inside analysts or something, but I feel like both in their commentary and broader branding, they never portray themselves as anything other than ex-Nintendo employees who just enjoy speculating.

It's not necessarily news what they say, sure, but neither is 90% of what Nintendo youtubers put out. They tell their opinions and that's pretty much all they claim to do.

Re: "DROP THE PRICE!!!" Scream Nintendo Fans During Nintendo's Treehouse Live Broadcast

BigRed40

@sporesmoldsfungus yeah its absolutely wild that games have stayed roughly the same price despite the ballooning of development costs. I think greater variety in pricing, like making smaller budget games $50-60 and reserving $80 for big AAA titans, could help ease this blow of the increase too, though I doubt they'll do that. I wonder too if putting more of the cost into the base game will slow down the rapid rise of DLC and micro-transactions etc?

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed

BigRed40

Takes a bit of the sting out of not being included but still unlikely to pick up unless I'm in a game drought or there is more game than was shown off. Seriously can't understand how this wasn't a pack-in. Doesn't even look particularly interesting, who thought this was worth charging for?

Re: Drag x Drive Puts The Rocket League Into Wheelchair Basketball

BigRed40

Very dismayed but not surprised by the live chat response to this game. Weird how the "Leave politics out of gaming" crowd seemed very quick to inject politics and mock disabled people at the same time. If you aren't into the game just leave it at that! Personally, I'll wait for reviews/price but seemed unique if a bit half baked.

Re: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

BigRed40

@Nintencats73 For sure. Any time I ask someone their favorite gens, it's always right around the gen they played when they were like 6-10 years old. Checks out for myself too lol, I played Yellow first technically but Hoenn was my first gen I bought myself at like 6 and it still remains my favorite.

Re: Pokémon TCG Pocket Has Already Generated $120 Million Since Launch

BigRed40

A couple weeks in and the grind has definitely set in a bit, but still enjoying it overall. Hopefully with new expansion packs, you'll get a bunch of free packs again like with launch to keep things fresh and incentive people to stay engaged with it. New cards should also hopefully mix up the meta and make battles not so monotonous.

That said, I am enacting a personal BOYCOTT on Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Starmie EX decks. Just been conceding as soon as I see them to rob them of enjoying the battle. Just broken and boring to play with and against. Try something original!

Re: Review: Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket (Mobile) - A Breezy, Beautiful Take On TCG, Gacha Aside

BigRed40

Somewhat complex feelings so far, but overall having fun. I'm not a big fan of f2p games and wish they would consolidate the millions of tokens into a more streamlined system, but haven't felt a need to pay yet. The card collecting mechanics are pretty in depth, way more than expected. Sleeves, coins, deck boxes, playmats, binders. Nice attention to details. And as far as battling, while definitely lacks the depth, I think they did a good job of simplifying in the right places to keep games nice and sweet. The energy system in particular is nice because you're not getting screwed because you're waiting on a singular energy. Hopefully the trade system is implemented well, allowing local and public trades. Though being online vs having to go find in person a specific card, feel like that might disincentivize buying packs, so unfortunately I could see them either limiting trades to friends/local, or having a timer of sorts on trades.
