Ever since the 60-player battle royale party game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was released, there's been a number of stories about the game potentially coming to the Switch and other platforms in the future.
While there have been some promising signs so far, it seems Mediatonic (the UK developer behind the game) is more focused "right now" on earning the trust of the Fall Guys community on PS4 and PC rather than making money off ports. Here's what Fall Guys lead game designer, Joe Walsh, had to say during a recent stream hosted by Gary Whitta (the same guy who hosts the Animal Crossing - Animal Talking show).
Thanks to our sister site Pure Xbox for spotting and transcribing Walsh's comments.
"Right now our real focus is on making the PlayStation and PC games as good as they possibly can be. We really have to build trust with the community now and make sure they believe that we can support this game and make it really good.
So it's our job now to be like, hey community - we know what you want and we're listening and we're working as hard as we can to try and fix it, and for us to just say, 'now we're going to just focus on bringing it to more platforms', it's not the right thing to do at this point in development.
That will make us more money, but that's not what we want to do right now. The focus is on building that relationship with the community."
In an FAQ on the official Fall Guys website asking if there are plans for an "Xbox or Switch release", Mediatonic said it would "love" to bring the game to other platforms further down the line and tells fans to let it know what it should release on next. This was followed by the discovery of Switch SDK support in the game's files on Steam last week.

Most successful PS Plus title ever, 7 million copies sold on Steam.
Yeah they don't have to worry about porting the game for a while yet and can focus on building the Scrooge McDuck cash pool for diving into.
Fair play to them.
They have my trust 😂
I’ve watched and heard so much of this game, and I would love if it got ported to the switch.
@TheFullAndy They’re a small British company who’ve stumbled into massive success. They have to focus on being able to accommodate the players they already have on their servers before working on ports.
That's fine! Building trust is important too, but I still hope to be able to play it on my Switch one day. I always enjoyed watching shows like Takeshi's Castle so this would be right up my alley.
I just hope it will actually run well on the Switch with so many players, is all. That may be what might eventually stop them from actually porting the game over.
@nessisonett
Or just enjoy the success for a little bit before going back into the neverending crunch that comes with these live service games.
Bought it on Steam. Will double dip on Switch eventually.
I love that a smaller company like them have found amazing success. And I love that they expanded the Battle Royale genre into the wacky japanese tv-shows.
Here's hoping they have many seasons of fun ahead.
Makes sense to me. Not my kind of thing, but I imagine there are a lot of people who would be overjoyed to see it come to other platforms, though!
Fall Guys is so much fun
They already have my trust
Probably the best live service game I've played since Apex tbh
Sounds like a good idea. A popular online game will have enough bug fixes as it is, I doubt rushing it to Xbox or Switch will help...
I just hope they port it over before it becomes irrelevant.
Take your time I own it on ps4 and will buy it on switch.
Please bring it now to Nintendo Switch.
From what I’ve seen the server connection is worse than Nintendo’s, if that gets fixed I might be interested.
Tried it on Steam but unfortunately my laptop is an old potatoe that can't run games. Look forward to getting this on Switch someday.
Lame. This game is made for the Switch and I would happily buy it if it was released.
Re-release it now on the switch at full price but also include that switch tax too.
No. Noooo. Nooooooo! NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
I need Fall Guys on Switch now! Well, I don’t... but I want it!
It'd be good if they made it free for switch online owners like they did for ps plus owners.
I think it's the right attitude. It's a small company and they have a lot on their hands right now, to port the game would be to stretch the resources too thin.
Can some other company not just make a very similar game?!?! Let’s gooooooo.
You could build a bigger, better community if you bring it to other platforms...
@0nett They're still fixing the game, little glitches, bugs, making updates, new costumes, preparing for season 2. And remember, they're just a small team, and they never expected this kind of success. They're hardly keeping up with the two platforms they are on right now. I don't see the situation getting better if they also have to port them to other systems and maintain those as well. Small steps. It'll come to other systems eventually. Probably later this year.
@TheFullAndy most successful ps plus title ever was rocket league.
I think everything he said sounds actually really good. Even though that means I can't play it.
@Yanina it's really in a semi beta form right now. It is pretty repetitive once you have seen everything and the team challenges can feel totally like just rolling the dice more than doing anything skillful. Little stuff like the door breaker challenge they didn't bother making the doors that break look slightly different so again total luck. It needs more time in the oven before it's not just a gambling simulator.

Things change.
Once the kinks are worked out, and stability isn't an issue anymore, then I can see this ending up being one long commercial for the Switch release.
I'd imagine the sales will be stronger after having it blow up the way it did, than if it originally launched on Switch.
@N8tiveT3ch you don't just copy and paste a game from one console to another. That's not how porting works, but boy would it be convenient!
Is this ea!? That was the most idiotic thing I've heard all year so far 😆
Come on guys, I'm begging you to let me throw my money at this game! Just port it already!
Honestly just sounds like Sony is in their pockets. You won’t hear anything about other versions until whatever deal they have with PlayStation expires. But I’d imagine it’ll be available to other platforms shortly after. Good chance they’re already done them.
@OldFangledGamer True which is why Nintendo is able to charge 60 whole dollhairs for a 5+ yr old game. But don't mind me I've been part of this camp for a long time of port begging when I could get it for cheaper on another platform or even free.
@SnesSwitch How are the two even comparable? I'd honestly like to hear your logic before i call you a complete and total idiot.
The thing with this game that I love is how giving it is with their kudos (currency in game).
Like you get kudos for playing, the more rounds you survive, the more kudos you get. And the season pass is also very giving, every 5 levels or so the number of kudos earned increases.
And the items in the dhoo aren't overly expensive. You just gotta play a few rounds or win a few match's and boom, you can afford everything.
It's very refreshing to see how giving the game is. And the costumes are adorable so yea! So it's motivating to play enough rounds to buy X costume or Y color in the shop. It's probably why it's my most played game this month on my PC.
I'll definitely be triple dipping for my Xbox and switch (hopefully by then, cross platform and cross progression are a thing)
@0nett What could they gain from lying about a console exclusivity deal? Theyre small developers, they want to iron out some issues with the game and get themselves together before going to other consoles and possibly spreading themselves thin.
@Snakesglowcaps yeah cause a team of this size DEFINITELY have the resources to just sit on full ready to go ports without releasing them.
@doctorhino
But that's whats fun about it.... Why would the doors be different? It would also give veterans a HUGE advantage over new players.
And also it's resemblance to the game shows.
Maybe they can add a challenge mode, but that would be for the future
@Ttimer5 I guess it's just that for that one there is no benefit to trying to break the doors. Just hang back a bit and watch which ones open so you can get in before you qualify. The other levels already favor veterens. The spinners level particularly.
@TheFullAndy Successful is a very broad term. He didn't say most downloaded. Rocket league turned into a full fledged esport on all platforms so I'd say starting it's life as a free PS plus game it had had the most "success".
@doctorhino
Who is he?
Unless you have access to their accounts the only way to determine the success of PS Plus games is how many times the game has been downloaded and Fall Guys is already the most downloaded game ever on PS Plus. In one month I might add.
So I stand by my assertion.
@TheFullAndy I guess I meant you. If you want to stand by the fact that rocket league blew the f up after starting on ps plus and define success by downloads go for it. Of course it's in one month, games only stay up free for a month.
@doctorhino
Did you see the part about 7 million copies sold on Steam as well?
Does that not also meet your definition of "blew the f up"?
Again this is in a single month.
@Trippersigs22 they gain money...? Most exclusivity deals are not revealed...and the attention they’ve gained from from ps plus is immeasurable.
@Trippersigs22 yet there is controls schemes in the files for switch...? 😊 They make more money giving this to Sony first plain and simple. Gains attention, Sony opens their wallet, and they likely need to front like its PS4 exclusive until so and so date they can reveal other versions are on the way. That’s the way it’s been forever.
@TheFullAndy cool well when they are having fall guys championship tournaments in 5 years for a million dollars let me know.
@doctorhino
You have acknowledged PS Plus games last a month so surely the main way of determining the success of a game that lasts a month on PS Plus is how many times said game was downloaded in that month rather than if it is a massive esports title after the fact?
In which case Fall Guys is the most successful PS Plus game so far.
You are wrong on this one bud, just accept that.
@TheFullAndy we have different definitions. The most successful game while on ps plus and the most successful "ps plus" game are not the same thing. We aren't even talking about the same thing, I'm talking about games that started their lifecycle on ps plus as their main promotion. You are talking about while on ps plus the game that saw the most PS plus success.
It doesn't even matter the 2 games are crazy popular compared to anything else given out at the start of it's life on ps plus. That category is full of shovelware like drawn to death
As someone who's only game playing device is a Switch, this can't come soon enough.
@doctorhino https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1298606121549041664
It is the most downloaded game. Sony themselves have said it.
@Trippersigs22 a lot timed exclusivity deals have it in the contract they can’t really acknowledge it. Or at least not the length of time. Look at Cuphead, it’s everywhere now. But they stated it would never go to PS4. Yes, they have their reasons for not admitting things.
@doctorhino
So to sum up....I am correct.
I have used the simplest metric of success for a game available for a month on PS Plus, that being the amount of times it has been downloaded, which has been confirmed in tweets by the games publisher and Sony.
You on the other hand are using a much more open definition of success which already falters looking at sales figures of the games. Excerpt from wikipedia:
"On July 11, 2015, Psyonix announced that there were around 120,000 concurrent players across both Windows and PlayStation 4.[164][165] By the end of July, the game had been downloaded over 5 million times,[166] and had 179,000 concurrent players.[167][168] Psyonix stated that Rocket League's quick paced success far exceeded their expectations.[169]
Psyonix announced that over one million copies of the game had been sold on Steam by August 2015.[170] By the end of 2015, the game had been downloaded over eight million times, and grossed over $50 million.[171][172] In February 2016, Psyonix stated Rocket League has earned $70 million in revenues with at least four million copies sold, not including downloads on the PlayStation system"
So to sum up Rocket League was launched on 7th July 2015. 5 million copies downloaded on PS Plus during that opening month on PS Plus. By February 2016 the game had sold 4 million copies not including downloads on the PS4.
Fall Guys in a month on Steam has already sold 3 million more copies than Rocket League had after 6 months, not including Playstation downloads where Fall Guys is already ahead by a couple of a million, again after one month. (But esports amirite?!)
You see Fall Guys suddenly becoming unpopular?
So yes, I am right.
@doctorhino
No mate you have been the petty one.
Anyone with sense would know what I meant when I said most successful PS Plus game ever in a somewhat feel good comment.
You took exception and tried to be a smartass about it in your first comment to me using some metric for success which you didn't even bother to mention originally so I responded thinking (like a resonable person would) that you meant downloads so I shared the link.
You then started spouting nonsense about what you consider success means and I countered. Succesfully.
Only thing you have succeeded in is coming accross as a petty fool.
I don't know what they are doing, they are torturing me
There is around 16.1m PS4 players played the game and 7 million on PC. Retention is far more important than making a quick grab releasing on other platforms.
Yup, that’s a reason... 🤦♂️
@Apportal its on steam....everyone has a computer...... its like nintendo fans think they are entitled to games
@RodSD64 get it on steam its like nintendo fans think games are only on switch
@NintendoPok
Of course it's not only the Switch, there's the 3DS too.
@NintendoPok Everybody does not have a computer.
@NintendoPok are you that clueless? not everyone has a PC. how do people go on the internet? tablets. phones. macbooks. literally ENDLESS types of devices.
the real answer here is mediatonic has a deal with sony to make it console exclusive for the ps4 only. that deal probably wont expire for 6 months to a year.
I actually understand this to an extent. However this would be brilliant to play on the Switch. Family loves it on the PS4
@NintendoPok Bro chill, I wasn’t whining. I meant it would be great for it to come to other platforms, that’s it.
@NintendoPok Unless I don’t have any consoles it plays on. I do have a computer, but I don’t like the controls on it for Fall Guys.
@NintendoPok You’re funny. Not everyone has a computer. There’s a little thing called mobile devices that also has the internet. Also, some people don’t have lots of money. So they might have a Switch, and they want Fall Guys. But NEWSFLASH not everyone can afford to buy a computer just to play 1 game.
@NintendoPok How am I running on the Internet? It’s called a phone. They do that now.
First, it’s not about me. But unlike you, I recognize there are people not as fortunate as me. Second, Persona 4 Golden is a PS Vita game but Fall Guys is a PS4 game. As a result the min requirements for P4G are far less than Fall Guys, the memory alone is 2g vs 8g. That is provided you know what requirements for a game are. And also, 600 is still far more money that the 200 dollar Switch Lite that many have.
Please get off your rage fuel fest and actually take a moment to examine the current world climate and maybe just maybe have some empathy for those around you?
aka "we got sony money we good homey"
Translation - We have one of those secret Sony exclusivity agreements and we can't bring this surprise success to other platforms.
@NintendoPok You might wanna just sit back and let that blood pressure fall a little bit mate.
Quite the irrational rage you're experiencing.
It is quite clear you have a grudge against Nintendo and its services.
Maybe you'd feel better if you... stopped coming to a Nintendo-focused website?
Normally I wouldn't suggest that solution, but seeing as you haven't made a single constructive comment, I'm guessing you're not here because you enjoy the Switch or Nintendo products.
People are fully aware other solutions exist, but not everybody can afford them, plus, it's nice to have everything on a platform you enjoy using. It's a no-brainer, really.
Personally I tend to buy the games on the platform they first release on, then quit OG platform and double-dip if it launches on Switch so I can play it there instead. Because I enjoy playing any game much more, if I can play it on the Switch. And no, I don't play first person shooters, don't you worry.
@NintendoPok So in short, you're incapable of replying to comments of others with anything relevant. Interesting.
Completely ignored anything I wrote. Rofl.
Also, I literally wrote that I tend to buy the games on the OG platform and then play them when they come out on Switch.
So... I am playing. Lol.
@NintendoPok Bye.
@NintendoPok Just quickly, I did some digging, even if everyone owned a computer, which we don’t, lots are Macs. So, I have a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro. I’m not going to go buy a PC just to play Fall Guys. I can wait. So stop making assumptions that everyone owns a PC just because you do. Plus, this isn’t related to Minecraft. I’m not Ninja, I’m not a famous streamer. Bye.
@mousieone @kameko @WickedUnicarnBoi @BabyYoshi12 @Blizzia
Guys, let's just NOT reply to the obvious troll. Your arguments have been respectful and logical; he just replies with nonsense.
@RodSD64 so you tag multiple and talk behind my back? im not having it have a nice day. Let people have their opinions on the internet. nintendo fanbase smh you want everything and anything on the switch.
