Re: Review: Mobapad M12-HD Controllers For Switch 2 - A Clear Step Above Nintendo's Joy-Con 2

Banksie

My biggest problem with these (i received them the other day) is that they are, for all intents and purposes, Switch 1 joycons that can attach to a Switch 2. They run on Switch 1 software, hence all the bits that don’t make an awful lot of sense and why they are not recognised by the console properly. I feel miffed off, and a bit mugged off - no doubt they will do them properly later down the line.

Re: Hands On: Viture Beast XR Glasses - A 174-Inch TV On Your Face That Works Brilliantly With Switch 2, But At A Cost

Banksie

Had these for a couple of months, if I’m being honest I’m not a fan, but that might be because of me (i can’t typically use VR stuff) - the cons are the edge of screens are incredibly blurry, the screen has a tendency to drift if you decide to anchor it, and eventually my eyes get exhausted. I fly a lot for business and for these would be ace, but ultimately i just preferred playing handheld/table top. - edit* i want to add that i also bought these for taking a whopping great monitor and anchoring it anywhere i need to when working on travel, but the corner/edge clarity made it not fit for purpose

Re: Poll: The Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Demo Is Now Available, What Are Your First Impressions?

I just want to add a comment for those that seem to misunderstand what game key cards are doing. You buy a game key card and download the game, as much as i understand it there is then no further online handshakes to be done to play that game - in principal that game data is yours to access along as you retain the data of the game files, which you can do with memory card storage quite easily. It is not the same as downloading a game from the eshop, which requires regular online handshakes to be done, and that the license to play the game is very much digital and ties to an online account. Outside of the initial step of downloading game files, there are tangible benefits to a game key card that a simple download from
an eshop does not offer - you can go ā€œoff gridā€ and still let your Switch know you have the a license to play the game. It’s still not ideal, but if you back up game files via memory cards, it is better than digital only.

Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card

Banksie

Urgh, do i now need to consider any physical games i can get, that performance will actually be better as a download. I know on Switch 1 there was negligible difference in loading times - but that was it. This is suggesting actual performance differences. Even then, why can't the game data be on the card and installed to the Switch - that's something most will be happy with - the idea is that we always have a means to access the game and not depend on servers - so installing a game from a card can achieve that.

Re: UK Charts: Hideo Kojima's Latest Project Leaves Mario Kart World Stranded In 2nd

Banksie

Playing Death Stranding 2 right now, about 18 hours in - and once again it feels like great game systems built on the worst of open world busy work. Maybe I need to play the game differently, but building roads and repeating routes becomes a never ending slog. I felt this with the first game, but the Kojima nostaligia and "charm" made me remember it more fondly than I probably should give it credit for. DS2 feels like it's trying to right the wrongs of DS1 - but much like marmite, you are wither going to love this or hate this - I think I'm going to just run to end and see if that helps with the major Open World burnout this game gives me.

Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted

Banksie

@Zealv2 I do think we will start seeing a lot less ā€œpurelyā€ physical games on the Switch 2 - but such is the way in modern times. It’s almost impossible to escape the reality of patches and DLC, and that most games will never be ā€œcomplete on cartā€ - but I’m at least happy it will be blatantly clear with Physical games are nothing more than a glorified code in a cart - and a license on a cart at least allows the second hand market to continue (a code in the box that is redeemed can never be resold). I may have to accept myself that physical collection of games is best left for my N64 and SNES, and that anything modern will always be reliant on the internet to having a true finished product.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition?

Banksie

I’ve started playing it, and it feels much more of a timesink than the other Xenoblade games. I can see this being the type of game i play in an empty summer. They don’t exist for me currently, and the thought if the time i need to invest is putting me off a little. Enjoyed the 5 hours i’ve put in so far though, though the character dialogue fills like waffle, and less thought has gone into character development.

Re: Super Mario World Lego Set Revealed, Here's A First Look

Banksie

And here is me thinking that being in my mid 30's I'd get to be sensible with my money, but then Nintendo and Lego join forces and found a way to extract money from me every year - and now Zelda is going to be in the annual new set release schedule, I might as well resign myself to the fact of spending £500+ a year on lego.

Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect

Banksie

DK64 for NSO (maybe along with some other Rare games, Tooie and Bad Fur Day for example)

Wind Waker, Twilight Princes, Prime 2 and 3.

AND maybe one big last swan song game - like a brand new DK country game (please!!)

Prime 4 is going to be a cross get game at this point, and something of a show off launch title for the Switch 2, with the bells and whistles to distinguish it from it's Switch 1 counterpart.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom: Where Does It Fit In The Zelda Timeline?

Banksie

The series is called "The Legend of Zelda", not "The History of Zelda" or "The indisputable truth of Zelda"... I've taken the title in recent years to reflect exactly what we are getting. A legend, a tale told around a campfire, and that tale changes over time, it evolves, the teller adds flair, and what is correct no longer matters, it is the legend that matters. So, I imagine we are getting told the same story over and over, and even within the game themselves, the stories they are referring back to (which maybe older games) have become legends. It's fluffy, not concrete and I kinda love it for it.

Re: Random: Use A Portable Pot To Take Your Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Builds To The Next Level

Banksie

@Chaotic_Neutral It’s meant to be honest - i don’t wish for people to continue playing games they don’t enjoy. Whats the point! Though i do disagree with Zelda being considered a ā€œkidsā€ game. I mean, some ā€œkidsā€
games are by far the most challenging and rewarding games i’ve played - so i’m not sure by what definition we are using to describe a ā€œkidsā€ game.
