Are you tired of holding your Switch in handheld mode? Is Tabletop mode not enough? Want to play certain genres of games like SHMUP in vertical mode? Then this new Kickstarter project caleld 'RoTATE' might just be the Switch accessory you need.
Developed by Retro Frog - a small design and manufacturing company located in southern Ohio, the RoTATE allows users to play Nintendo Switch games in both vertical and horizontal displays, including TATE orientation display.
It's got 360 degree rotation - with notches at every 90 degrees, you can adjust the tilt in 18 degree increments, and it supports both the original Switch and OLED model. You can also have the USB-C charge cable plugged in while you play.
The goal is US$10,000 with more than $4,000 of it funded at the time of writing. And there are 29 days to go. The stretch goals at the moment allow users to get their hands on multiple RoTATE Stands. You can learn more in the video above.

These already exist, albeit not designed specifically for the switch. I have one for a portable monitor, but the Switch fits in it perfectly
Just use a phone or tablet stand
A thick book also does the job just as well.
@Banksie I thought there already was an accessory specifically for the Switch that lets you play it vertically like this. Not by Nintendo, but a third-party. I thought about getting one at some point. I'm pretty sure that's been a thing since like the Switch's launch year, unless I'm having a false memory. I know there was another accessory where you slide your Switch screen into and could hold it and your pro controller at the same time. I wanted one of those too, but since I have a Split Pad pro, that'd kinda be redundant now.
@Not_Soos Think you're possibly thinking of the Flip Grip? https://www.fangamer.com/products/flip-grip Quite a nice piece of kit, though I suppose different to this in that the FlipGrip is supposed to be handheld, whereas this is for tabletop playing.
They should have shown Downwell being played vertically. It's a neat looking product from the video. Not sure how much use I'd get out of it though.
Oh if anyone has netflix 4K (with the mobile gaming addition) check out Poinpy. It's exclusive to netflix gaming and it's by the same dev who made Downwell. Highly recommend it! Addictive gameplay. I wish it would come to Switch although I suppose it's built for mobile and the touch controls work great.
Honestly the most fun I've had gaming on my phone. No microtransactions or adverts either:]

Gameplay starts 55 seconds in.
This seems like a completely pointless product, any basic switch stand enables the use of TATE mode! Am I missing something here??
Hori's Playstand also works fine both in landscape mode and TATE mode.
What is worse? To kickstart a product that is already being made super cheap from dozen of companies?
Or...
To write an article about it?
NintendoLife should install the AliExpress app, not to buy, but at least to research what already exists.
I wish the switch was playable on the tv, then i wouldnt need stuff like this.
I don’t mean to be a downer, but judging from previous Kickstarter stories I expect:
@mr_benn Yeah, I’ve been keeping an eye on this, should they ever create one that’s compatible with the OLED Switch. Right now, it’s just for the Original Switch.
I think there are plenty of makers of these already.
@Tangerine I forgot Netflix had a gaming division. No disrespect to yourself of course, but you’re literally the only person I’ve heard mention it!
@PessitheMystic Hah. It's fine! I heard less than 1% of Netflix users have tried Netflix Games so that doesn't surprise me!
They have moonlighter and into the breach and Exploding kittens on there too! Plus a bunch of smaller titles. I'm not a big mobile gamer but I checked out a couple titles.
They either bought or invested in cloud gaming recently, so it looks like they want to add games right on the netflix app for TVs etc. Could be interesting, but perhaps it will flop like the current mobile gaming section seems to have.
I wonder if they could pull it off because of their current install base... Youd need a controller and a good internet connection like stadia I guess.
They have purchased 3 gaming studios so far too.
"Netflix has added another game developer to its ranks. The company announced that it has acquired Boss Fight Entertainment, a mobile studio based in Texas. It’s the third game studio that Netflix has scooped up following Oxenfree developer Night School and Next Games, the team behind a Stranger Things puzzle game."
So they are trying pretty hard I'd say. But yeah I dunno how successful any of it will be ultimately!
Remember Stadia...it's fallen off the world literary
Yay! More fish food (plastic). Lol.
This would be great for Downwell though will stick with kickstand on OLED.
I already have a rotating monitor for this purpose.
Meh this is nothing new
Stupid idea, it exist already
£3.60 from ebay.

@Tangerine Poinpy is wonderful.
While there are similar product already out there, getting more options is nice. May definitely check this out if it ever hit the market.
This doesn't add much to the solutions that are already in the market. When I saw this, the FlipGrip came to mind. That one mostly does what I need expect it has one drawback I overlooked in that it has to slide over the volume button. Otherwise it works well. I've been tempting to get a dock and put it on my monitor for tate mode.
THIS is PERFECT for BATTLESHIP for Nintendo Switch! I highly recommend Buying both this Stand and BATTLESHIP for Nintendo Switch! Extremely fun, especially if you have more than 1 Switch Console in the household and both have BATTLESHIP!!! It puts the boardgame to shame. Local multiplayer is Fantastic!
Is this a hardware scaler/rotation solution? I understand some Switch games support TATE or vertical mode's, but the Switch system itself does not allow for screen orientation adjustments. So does this device rotate the output display via hardware? So any game can, in theory, be played in vertical mode?
ha nm, just watched the video. the flip grip does this for $16, lol.
