Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great

AlwaysGreener

The thing that worries me about Illumination making this movie is that the majority of the time they focus on marketing and merchandise, rather than writing a good story. I just hope Nintendo has a tight leash on the project, since last thing we need is bunch of toads screaming more than usual. But it could be worse, Sony could've been making this.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Go Live This September

AlwaysGreener

@brandonbwii Well they just now announced the release date for it, which is in September, plenty of time to explain more about it in another announcement or a Direct. Maybe then they'll have something worthwhile, but I think for now they're presenting just a few examples of what they have in store for subscribers. Also I think it's best to just give it the benefit of the doubt for now, until more information about it surfaces. Though you are right to be cautious, since Nintendo has never been infallible.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

AlwaysGreener

@retro_player_22 Although that's true for Indie Dev's and Homebrewers. A Saturn Mini shouldn't be ruled out, because of that. There has been a lot of progress in Saturn Emulation in the past few years, even though it hasn't been perfected yet, what we have so far is quite impressive, especially since they were made by fans in their spare time. Something like a Saturn Mini could be possible, if Sega and Retro-Bit focused their efforts on such a device.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

AlwaysGreener

I love the Dreamcast, but I would lean a lot more towards a Saturn Mini being made rather then a Dreamcast mini. The Saturn was marred by so many problems caused by SEGA's errors during the 4th and 5th Generation, (Over-Saturation of SEGA Hardware on the Market, A rushed surprise launch that angered already weary Retailers and 3rd Party developers, Poor marketing and Complete lack of faith from Sega of America.) The system never really had a chance to shine here in the west and deserved so much better.

Re: Soapbox: Let 2018 Be The Year The Third-Party Exclusive Takes Over On Nintendo Switch

AlwaysGreener

@gortsi Well it's true that the Wii U did get the Yakuza 1&2 HD remakes, it unfortunately flopped pretty badly in Japan, if I'm not mistaken it's the only Yakuza game to do poorly upon release there. It's that failure that discouraged Sega from releasing more Yakuza games on Nintendo platforms believing that they wouldn't sell as well. Although that could change, seeing how the Switch is crushing it in Japanese sales, so the notion of a Yakuza release on the Switch is still possible.

Re: Feature: What We Want From Nintendo In 2018

AlwaysGreener

I'm interested in seeing what Nintendo will create with the new online infrastructure along with what they have in store for the Virtual Console, and to see whether or not the rumors of it turning into streaming service is true and see the benefits and consequences something like that would create. In addition I would love to see some more Wii U ports being brought over to the Switch, especially TMS#FE and XCX.

Re: Switch Set To Overtake Wii U In Japan After Less Than A Year On Sale

@JaxonH Thank you for the advice, but I'll probably will have to stick with Monster Hunter World. Not to say that the points you've made were bad (In fact they're pretty useful), but with another Monster Hunter around the corner I'd rather focus my attention on that release. However I'd like to thank you for the forum you made a couple months ago about learning Japanese for MHXX, which has been quite useful for me, since I'm trying to learn the language myself.

Sorry, I didn't get the chance to reply to you sooner, because I've been pretty busy these past few days. Anyway, have a Merry Christmas.

Re: Video: The Complete History of Phantasy Star

AlwaysGreener

@PlywoodStick With all the problems that the Sega Saturn had that generation, the most infuriating is Sega of America's decision to not bring the majority of the Saturn's JRPG and 2D games to the West. It's just criminal, since the Saturn excelled at those two genres.

Re: Sega Dreamcast, Saturn And Mega Drive Hardware Coming From Retro-Bit in 2018

AlwaysGreener

Did I read that headline right? I must be hallucinating.

EDIT I love the fact that we're getting new hardware, but I kind of wish for reproductions of certain games. Sega Saturn games are probably out of the question, but Dreamcast seems like a possibility. Well that seems like too much wishful thinking. Either way this is the best news I've heard all week. Can't wait for January to see what they'll reveal.

Re: Some Japanese Gamers Aren't Happy About Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

AlwaysGreener

@Angelic_Lapras_King I know, but it's not like it couldn't have been done. The Saturn's architecture maybe complicated, but it could be tamed, if Capcom was willing to put in the effort that is.

@Caryslan @Angelic_Lapras_King Also I think the reason why we hardly see any Saturn re-releases is not only because of the complexity of its design, but the lack of familiarity of the system to most gamers. And the combination of the two makes the Saturn and much of its library a "Lost Cause" to developers, which is a shame, since the only way of being able to play these games are drying up from either consoles dying or disc rot.

Re: Feature: It's Time to Vote for Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards

AlwaysGreener

To be honest, I purposely didn't vote for BOTW, Odyssey, XC2, or any other of the big name games. Don't get me wrong, they're still really good, but other great games that flew under the radar should still be mentioned, like Pokken Tournament DX & Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Also I'm surprised that the ACA Neo Geo games weren't listed as possible eShop contenders, I mean yeah there's a lot of them to list, but NL could've made the feature a singular entity to vote for.

Re: Nintendo Switch Reaches 10 Million Global Sales In Its First Nine Months

AlwaysGreener

Wow, this is probably the most positive feedback Slig's ever been given on this site, With of course the exception of a few commenters who love shaming others to somehow fuel their pitiable Ego, but that's just a given.

Well at least now he can make comments about the Switch with hands on experience, rather then his "Sources". With that being said, It's good to see him back, it's been quite uneventful lately.

Re: The Switch is Getting its First Game Boy Advance Port Soon

AlwaysGreener

I've never heard of this game, before now and I'll probably pass on it. With that being said, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything solid on Nintendo's VC. If they're taking their sweet time, then they might be doing something special, like the rumored subscription service. Or they're just busy with other things and for some reason haven't made the Virtual Console as a top priority. Either way I hope it doesn't get drip fed like every other time.
