A solid start, better than I expected personally. Now they have to keep momentum.
I do think they're in a better position this time than with the WiiU though. They have room for a price drop if necessary and they have games like Mario Kart coming already. Not to mention their advertising have been a lot more on-point.
Hoping for the best. But right now it's almost impossible to tell how it'll do in the long run.
Good for Nintendo, I hope they can keep up momentum. The holiday season will be the most interesting.
I'm very curious what the global a sales are.
@Yasume
I can only speak for Sweden, but over here it's sold out everywhere in the major cities. It caught me off guard tbh, I'm not used to having to actively look around for a system.
Personally, I feel like that's a great use of DLC. I remember reading about how they skipped dungeons in Wind Waker because they didn't have time, back then I would have loved to have those dungeons as DLC. I'm glad that this is a possibility today, and that they're doing it.
This is good or bad news depending on what kind of product Nintendo wants to sell. If it's intended as a handheld, this is a huge step above the 3DS. If it's intended as a home console, this is a marginal upgrade from WiiU.
Considering Nintendo is marketing the Switch as a home console, I'd say this is bad news and it'll most likely affect 3rd part support down the line.
Edit: I very much doubt this will have any effect on the system failing or not, as some seem to think. The main draw of the Switch isn't the processing power, it's the flexibility of being both a portable and home console. If that's something people want it'll sell, if not it'll fail - no matter if there's tegra or pascal on the inside.
Nice. Nintendo is definitely doing a much better job with the advertising of the Switch than they ever did with the WiiU. I hope it makes a difference.
@JaxonH
Well, they have certainly not convinced me of that. If they split development between two systems, it's bound to happen sooner or later (assuming a continued lack of 3rd party support).
I was hoping we'd get mainline Pokemon games etc. on the Switch. That seems less probable if they plan on making another dedicated handheld.
Hmm.. I might postpone my Switch purchase if this is the case.
I was hoping they would put both their handheld and console series on the Switch. If that's not the case I can see the WiiU droughts returning in about a year.
Going by the 3DS standard of 2GB this sounds reasonable, since 3DS carts can go up to 8GB. So I am assuming the NS carts will be between 16GB and 64GB.
It is very sad to see this type of game being the debut title from gaming's biggest mascot... Could they seriously not come up with literally anything that haven't been done to death on cellphones?
I was actually looking forward to seeing what they'd come up with for a Mario title on mobile. I'm very disappointed right now.. :/
My impression from Kimishima going by previous statements is that he knows business pretty well. I have faith in him knowing what he is doing, so if this is mainly his decision I support it and believe he has a plan we do not fully understand just yet.
@SanderEvers Sure, even so, that would be disappointing. Big "surprises" usually take a lot of time in these shows. I don't want to sit through 10 minutes watching a 4-year-old game being showed off. There are so many other (and better) things they could spend that time on, assuming this is indeed a Nintendo Direct announcement.
@Varvara
Pretty much my thoughts as well. It'd be really disappointing if this is the "big news" in this direct, IMO.. I'm kind of surprised that people seem to get excited by this news.
Great game, but definitely the worst in the series, IMO. Time travel is a boring gimmick and the "Shroobs" were a boring enemy with no personality at all. Not to mention that the babies were more of an annoyance than a fun mechanic. Hopefully Paper Mario will be more fun in the upcoming "Paper Jam".
Cool. If it wouldn't have been for those thick eyebrows I would have called it fake. But the render looks great and original. Would love to play as Rayman.
@Nico07
You don't need change per-se. Additional content would have been enough. That is a very easy way to increase the greatness of an already great game without changing the game itself.
In my opinion they should have included a Master Quest/New Game+ or/and a boss rush mode etc. etc.
All in all, this game is worse value for the money than Ocarina of Time 3D was, which is something of a downgrade to me. A sequel should improve, so a 10/10 seems too high to me.
I have a feeling I'm going to disagree with that score. But each to their own. I'm just glad to see you enjoyed it! Looking forward to getting the Majoras Mask New 3DS and this game!
@Kitchener I didn't ask if it should have been sold at a higher price, I asked why it wasn't. Since you do not belive in supply/demand as determinants of the market, how do you explain why the Ps3 was sold at a lower price?
@Kitchener That's not how things work. Just saying. If no profit is to be made there would be no incentives for trade to begin with.
I'd love to hear your explanation as to why Sony sold the Ps3 at a loss? According to your line of thought it should have been even more expensive at launch than it was.
It wasn't available over here anyway, so I'm pretty indifferent towards this. Hopefully the new program will actually be available everywhere instead, that'd be much better.
I would enjoy having my figurines usable from the box. But breaking the seal of the box kind of destroys the whole point to me, noticeable or not. Might as well take them out if you have ruined the packaging.
It's very rare for manufacturing errors to turn out "good". Usually it's just poor coloring of the figure or something else that is considered negative by most. This is really cool though. I imagine a error going the other way around (two hands) would be very neat, and valuable, as well.
@MadAdam81 A character that is not available in the game cannot be nerfed... That would imply that I could say Dark Pit was nefed in Super Smash Bros. for WiiU because of whatever reason. There has to be a starting point to compare with before you can call a character nerfed/improved.
If he were to apply what he says he is trying to apply (accurate portrayals of characters), Captain Olimar should have a height of 1.9cm (0.75 inches). So practically the height of Mario's shoe. Instead he is taller than Kirby.
Going further, they gave Zero Suit Samus boost heels, which isn't part of any Metroid game featuring Zero Suit Samus.
And why is the Duck Hunt Dog and Duck suddenly friends? That goes against the whole point of the game where the dog is supposed to hunt the ducks. Makes no sense for the portrayal of neither the duck nor the dog.
etc.
etc.
Sometimes I wonder if Sakurai just say things to calm a certain audience and skips the actual reasoning behind decisions.

Re: Talking Point: ARMS Has Plenty to Prove In Its Nintendo Direct
Can't say I'm all that excited, I'll watch it later so that I can skip all the potentially boring segments.
As of right now the promise of a Splatoon 2 trailer excites me more than anything ARMS related to be honest.
I really hope they decide to release a demo of ARMS at some point. It definitely looks like a game you have experience to know if you like it or not.
Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios
I'm kind of hoping they aren't doing a Metroid game, since that's what everyone's always expecting them to do.
I would like a 3rd DKC so that we have a trilogy, if not that, a new take on another old franchise or a new IP would be much appreciated.
Re: Surprise, Nintendo Isn't Hosting An E3 Press Conference This Year
I'm surprised people are surprised about this. They haven't done a staged conference in five years.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to it.
Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
Nice. Doesn't seem to include enough to warrant a purchase if you own the WiiU version though, so I'll skip this.
I hope we'll get a MK9 on Switch at some point.
Re: SuperData Says Nintendo Sold 2.4 Million Switch Consoles Worldwide in March

Re: South Park: Fractured But Whole Not Coming To Switch, Despite Apparent Twitter Tease
Unfortunate. It's a bit too early to tell, but it seems like the Switch will be another Nintendo console for Nintendo games (and indie titles).
Re: Nintendo Switch Owners Will Have To Wait Longer And Pay More For RiME
This sounds ridiculous.. Switch owners get the game later and have to pay more as well..? I certainly won't be buying this on Switch now.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred
Ugh.. One step forward, two steps back..
I'm very curious to learn more about their online infrastructure at this point, because they better step it up if they expect me to pay for it.
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
Re: Nintendo Confirms Expansion Pass DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I'm only interested in the second pack.
Personally, I feel like that's a great use of DLC. I remember reading about how they skipped dungeons in Wind Waker because they didn't have time, back then I would have loved to have those dungeons as DLC. I'm glad that this is a possibility today, and that they're doing it.
Re: Rare Veteran David Wise is Producing the Soundtrack for Switch Title Snake Pass
Cool, that fact alone might actually be a selling point for me.
Looks like a nice portable game.
Re: Video: Nintendo Comes Out Swinging With New ARMS Footage
Man, this looks really good. Absolutely love the character designs and springs concept.
I really hope they launch it with a lot of content though, I don't want to see another barebones Splatoon launch.

That is plenty of space.
Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run
@Cia
Not a fair comparison. G&W games were limited by the hardware they were developed for, this game is limited by choice. Big difference.
Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

Re: Rumour: Detachable NX Controllers Will Offer Wii-Like Motion Control And Advanced Force Feedback
Just sounds like a slightly more advanced rumble feature, which I assumed would be included either way.. That's not much of a rumor.
I was hoping for something like a haptic-feedback touchscreen rumor to pop up at some point. That'd be exciting.
Re: Dragon Quest XI Confirmed For Nintendo NX, For Real This Time
Sounds like the NX version will boast worse visuals than Ps4 at least. If not that, it sounds like it'll make use of a different art-style.
I like that they're making different versions for each system though. Pretty interesting (and ambitious) idea.
Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo's Expanded E3 Plans?
This E3 looks to be very boring to me. Hopefully Nintendo will manage to surprise me though. We'll find out soon enough.

Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project
Well, first off the specs sound a bit too good to be true alongside another screen controller considering Nintendo's usual pricing structure.
Personally, I would prefer not getting another screen controller. But I will wait and see what it looks like. Could be good if they improve it enough.
I won't be buying this at launch though. I'll probably wait a year and see if it bombs or not.
Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015
Splatoon for me. I have played that game so much it is almost embarrassing to look at the amount of hours I have poured in to it.
No other game this year, on any platform, has been able to grab my attention like Splatoon has.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details
That is a worrying patent. Digital only sounds horrible and going back to having cartidges sounds expensive.
I hope this is nothing more than Nintendo sequring ideas, ideas that will hopefully never actually happen.
Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time (Wii U eShop / DS)
Great game, but definitely the worst in the series, IMO. Time travel is a boring gimmick and the "Shroobs" were a boring enemy with no personality at all. Around 7-8 seems like an adequate score.
Re: Video: Xenoblade Chronicles X May Have Been Subject to a Slight Graphics Downgrade
I noticed the downgrade as soon as they showed the same scene from the reveal trailer. It seems pretty big IMO. Worse textures, lighting and detail.
I don't mind though as long as they can keep the frame-rate steady.
Re: Turn It Up To Eleven, Guitar Hero Is Making A Glorious Comeback On Wii U

Pretty expected.
Re: Rumour: Rayman Could be Planned as DLC in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS
Cool. If it wouldn't have been for those thick eyebrows I would have called it fake. But the render looks great and original. Would love to play as Rayman.
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
@Nintendofan83
The "C-stick" was available well before the New 3DS in the form of the Circle Pad Pro.
The improved 3D is only a hardware upgrade, the games themselves have nothing to do with it.
This game does not make use of the improved CPU. It runs at the same frame-rate as OOT:3D, has the same visual upgrade and less content.
So the game itself doesn't really add any of those features.
Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)

Super Smash Bros. for WiiU.
It has loads more of everything that made previous games in the series amazing.

Best: Mario Kart DS & Mario Kart 8
OK: Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart: Double Dash
Meh: Mario Kart 7 & Mario Kart Super Circuit
