I was disappointed that it was only a ”mini” Direct. I wanted a full-blown Direct with info on the new online infrastructure alongside game announcements.
With that said, for a miniDirect it was pretty good. Probably the best miniDirect I have seen.
That's too bad, I won't be buying it in that case.
@MarcelRguez
Well.. Yeah. However, the costs are a lot higher in this case. Considering it's estimated to cost a publisher 60% more to use a 32GB cart compared to the cost of using a 50GB BluRay disc on other systems, this development isn't all that surprising. An additional cost of sixty percent per game is a lot, especially once it's aggreagated.
With that said, this is still a really crappy thing to do and I won't support it.
Sad to hear they couldn't manage 60fps. DOOM is such a fast-paced title that cutting the frame-rate in half will definitely hurt the overall experience.
Well, he obviously wasn't alone in thinking that. Seems like most people (me included) and even Nintendo themselves were surprised to see the Switch do as well as it did/is doing (both commercially and in terms of pure sales).
@-Green-
Not really. A lot has changed since the original DS (and even 3DS) was introduced, I mean, Ipad's and Iphone's didn't even exist back then which are products that have paved the way for a multitude of other- and simliar product to flood the market ever since.
We are in a very very different marketplace now compared to back then.
There has been lots of great titles on the eShop thus far IMO. I'm pretty happy with the assortment of current and upcoming titles. However, there is a lot that can be improved in the layout of the actual shop, it's extremely simple as of right now.
I'm expecting a re-vamp once the payed service is set to arrive early next year.
Sounds like they have a weak case, if a case at all.
They're attempting to sue and remove a product (the Switch) in which the only remote similarity to their product is the JoyCons themselves, nothing more.
Somewhat expected, but still impressive numbers. It looks like Splatoon is here to stay as one of the brands we'll see on every future Nintedo platform.
@Proust
That's a bad analogy since you obviously purchase the bottle in the store, just like you purchase the game case alongside the cartridge if you buy Splatoon 2 in a store.
It's more like buying a 50cl bottle of Coke that contains 25cl and then you receive the remaining 25cl "for free" over time.
I'll also add that I don't think this is stupid at all. One reason I personally bought this game is because I like that they spread out "free" updates like these and that I want to be a part of it from the get-go. It keeps me coming back to the game and keeps things interesting over longer periods of time. They could obviously include all the things they have planned as updates on the cartridge day one, and I get that some people prefer that. But I think the game would stagnate pretty fast if that was the case. With these updates the meta will change over time and keep the game fresh.
Heh, I initially read "suppressing your child's gaming experience have never been easier!" In the image.
Anyway, nice update, I like being able to track my playtime like this. But it'd be more convenient if it was included on the system itself, rather than in an app (or at the very least available on both).
Though, the best part about it was pretty much to doodle/write comments that appeared in other peoples games - and that functionality seems to be staying in some games (at least in Splatoon 2).
This is a lot of fun, I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Love the survival aspect and more varied rooms. Huge improvement over the Cave of Ordeals/Cave of Shaddows from previous games IMO.
I hope they continue with, and improve upon, this in future titles and don't go back.
Love Rocket Leauge! I own this on most platforms already, but I'll probably get it day one on Switch as well. Having it portable is going to be fantastic!
That is really good news considering the falling trend in demand for consoles in Japan.
@Agent721 True. However, Europe as a whole is most definitely a very important market for Nintendo, more so than Japan. It usually makes up more than one third of their systems lifetime sales.
That is one hell of a first party lineup for the systems first year. You hardly ever see this many must have titles the first year, gotta give Nintendo credit for that.
It's just very unfortunate that they lack major 3rd party support. It makes this list look pretty sparse to be honest. Imagine that infograph alongside all the same (or at least an equal amount of) 3rd party games as PS4/XBONE.
I don't know, I feel there's a reason they chose not to call this MH5. It looks somewhat 'westernized', If that makes sense. Feels more like a spin-off than mainline.
Seems more like game to get people into the series. If Nintendo are smart they'll secure MH5 on Switch and enjoy a larger potential fanbase created by this game a across other platforms.
Well, they have said that their focus will be on games we already know about so that seems reasonable. I would assume maybe one or two new games will be revealed (one of which will be the Mario/Rabids crossover that already leaked).
My expectations are fairly low regarding new announcements, but I'm very much looking forward to new trailers for Xenoblade 2 and Mario.
Well, it comes down to it either being a lazy effort or that the Switch can't handle the engine.
Considering they actively chose to leave out an entire mode, the latter is the obvious contender.
I have no doubt the Frostbite engine is scalable. Considering the Switch can run UE4, it should most definitely be able to handle a down-scaled version of Frostbite.
Either way, it's sad news for Nintendo since the people who will end up feeling "cheated" by purchasing this inferior version (which I am sure will be priced just as high as the other versions) will most likely blame Nintendo for it rather than EA.
On the other hand, it's Nintendo's job to make sure they get good 3rd party support on their systems ,so they only have themselves to blame. It mainly sucks for their customers.
I didn't think it was true.. This is such a weird collaboration.
To my surprise I have to admit I like the artwork, can't dislike that bullet-bill gun and vacuum gun - nice attention to detail. Hopefully it'll turn out to be good.. I'm pretty skeptical though.
The pro-controller is kinda ugly though. They should have kept the handles black, that would have looked a lot better. To be honest, I find it really weird that the handles are colored and the splat marks are black.. The opposite would have made a lot more sense to me.

Re: Miitomo Meets Its End On 9th May
Not surprised, I had forgotten it even existed.
Re: Feature: Bugging Out With Hollow Knight's Team Cherry
Neat, looking forward to the game. I’ll get it on Switch if the port is good.
@KayFiOS
It’s a quote, so the correct sentence will be the one that was actually said - grammatically correct or not.
Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 30 Best Selling Digital Games on Switch in 2017
Big congrats to the Stardew Valley devs.
I also did not expect Minecraft to be on top in Japan. But it's nice to see that Microsoft has some success over there.
@Hotfusion No, the retail release is called "Snipperclips: Cut it Out Together Plus", the standard release is still digital-only.
Re: Nintendo Announces Labo, A Range Of Interactive DIY Toys For Switch
Unexpected, but a very cool concept. Not really something I'm interested in, but I love the idea. Very "Nintendo".
Re: Dark Souls: Remastered Won’t Feature Cross-Platform Play
Never expected it to begin with.
Re: Nintendo Is Announcing "A New Way To Play" Later Today
Sounds like it’ll not be for me, might be more of those Pikmin shorts with some interactivity thrown in? Who knows.. I’m expecting nothing major.
Re: Soapbox: Is Super Mario Odyssey the Best Mario Game Ever?
It's definitely up there. But I think I still prefer the Galaxy games. For me;
#1. Super Mario Galaxy
#2. Super Mario Odyssey
#3. Super Mario Galaxy 2
#4. Super Mario 64
#5. Super Mario Sunshine
Re: Splatoon 2 Has Become The First Game In Almost A Decade To Sell 2 Million Copies In Japan
Very impressive.

1 2 Switch has sold well in Europe and NA as well. It must be well over a million worldwide by now.
Re: Feature: Vote For Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Re: Nintendo Is Bringing Classic Wii Games To The Nvidia Shield In China
Interesting approach.
Would love for them to port these titles to Switch as well, especially the Galaxy games.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Has Already Cleared 2 Million Sales
Very well deserved. It might just be my favorite Mario game ever. Everything is just so much fun.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Pokémon Steal the Show at the Japan Game Awards 2017
Very well deserved. I can't wait to jump back in to BotW with the upcoming DLC. Absolutely love exploring that world.
Re: First Impressions: Hell in a Handbasket - DOOM on Nintendo Switch
Sad to hear they couldn't manage 60fps. DOOM is such a fast-paced title that cutting the frame-rate in half will definitely hurt the overall experience.
I'll have to skip this one.
Re: Poll: Six Months of the Switch - What Do You Think of Nintendo's Console Hybrid?
Very happy with it. One of the most interesting products Nintendo has provided IMO, and all the games releasing this year have been phenomenal so far.

Unexpected news but very welcome. Glad to see Rockstar Games bat an eye at Switch.

Love it! Can't wait to see actual gameplay!
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Glitch Allows You To View Link Without A Cartoon Shader
Reminds me a bit of the visuals in Wind Waker HD when Toon Link is exposed to light-sources. A very 'plastic'-type look, neat glitch though.
Re: Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Will Be a Switch Exclusive in 2018
This was such awesome news! It's my new most hyped Switch game, Travis is BACK!
I'm hoping for a updated version of NMH1 and 2 as well.

Re: Capturing Uproots In Super Mario Odyssey Looks Like Fun
Can't wait to find out about all the transformations. I bet we've just scratched the surface of what's possible in this game.

Re: Japanese Pokémon GO Players Are Outspending Their U.S. Counterparts
This game is insanely successful. I didn't think they'd be able to keep players engaged for this long.
Hopefully all of this money is put into the next mainline Pokemon game on Switch.
Re: NicoNico Launches on the Switch in Japan This Week
Good. They should have had apps like Netflix etc. out on the Switch from the get-go.
The "it's only a gaming platform" statement they pulled was moronic IMO.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down Splatoon 2's Tech Improvements Over Its Predecessor
Very pleased to hear that it maintains a constant 60fps. I was hoping it would be constant 1080p as well, but the game looks great nonetheless.
Prioritizing the frame rate was definitely the right move for this title.
Re: Preview: Going Solo in Splatoon 2's Single Player Hero Mode

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch
Taking the Wii as an example is pretty weird and stating 3rd party titles didn't sell (or make money) on the Wii is factually wrong.
