Re: Bowser Tries To Explain Why Mario's Games Will Be Removed On 31st March 2021

I am still surprised by the vitriol people show in these situations. To begin with how is the term "limited time" confusing? It is a well known strategy used in nearly every market and industry for decades at the very least. It means you have a limited window and if that bothers you do not try to purchase it. It is a pretty basic concept. I have missed out on lots of things especially in regards to Nintendo club items or preorder add-ons. I am not going to cry, bitch and moan on social media sites.
In regards to Bowsers comments it has nothing to do with an NDA it is simply a way to address the situation without providing concrete details. The reason behind this is partly to allow flexibility going forward and also to avoid legal problems by stating things that never come to pass.

And I am sorry but FOMO is not real and people need to quit naming things to make it so. We all want to be the winners in these situations but if you have "anxiety" (see that is a real thing) that overwhelms you about not being successful in these situations seek professional help.

Re: Feature: Every Nintendo Switch Online NES Game Ranked

zidentia

I have played most if not all of these NES games and many not on the list. The rankings are no surprise but there are so many other well desgined games out there that Nintendo likley cannot add due to licensing issues. I am pretty burnt on NES games but I have purchased some of the collections to get the games I feel are better. The one game I found hard to rent was Star Tropics because most VG rentals had only one or two copies and someone always kept them forever.

I am more interested in SNES games since I rented more Genesis games and while there were many versions for both platforms so many games were exclusives which gives me something to look forward to.

Re: SNK Confirms The "New" Neo Geo Console Is Coming Next Year

The market is very crowded and I do not think SNK has the brand recognition they imagine they do. The Atari might have a good start on launch day but really it has no killer features outside of a tapped out game library and I say that being a one time Atari console owner/enthusiast. The Intellivision Amico I feel has the best shot. It is embracing its retro game library but also re imagining it and at the same time back filling that family friendly niche Nintendo is slowly letting go of. On top of that there are the so many mini consoles and the debacles by Sega(never change Sega) that have created a rise to saturation outside of the home brew market.

I do love the fighting games though.

Re: Feature: Why Open A Video Game Shop During A Global Pandemic?

@nessisonett
Honestly your comments could be considered Xenophobic. It appears you have hatred for Americans for some reason. Covid is real but unfortunately in the USA the government is paying health care providers a premium for Covid care so doctors and hospitals are going out of their way to classify deaths and infections as being primary Covid when in reality it is a secondary problem and not the main issue or even an issue. We have several friends in the health care field and they say it is not unusual to administer multiple Covid tests to patients even though they have no symptoms and came in for an unrelated issue. So the reporting is significantly out of whack now which is why it seems unreal to be out and about and seeing people everywhere, somehow healthy but your area keeps reporting larger and larger case counts. This is where conspiracy theory starts, with a partial basis of truth.

Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle

zidentia

In my opinion the video review could be cut at least in half because he says the same thing over and over about the graphics, blurriness and action roughly every two minutes.

It also seems a bit disingenuous at this point to fault the Switch version for poor graphics with this port when just a couple of years ago NL and many owners were crying about the lack of AAA games from outside the Nintendo traditional franchises. I have the last version of Doom on Switch and in handheld it is quite difficult to see certain fonts and objects. The programmers though did a hell of a job porting it and keeping the frame rate stable. I never expected the graphics to look as good as they did. To now fault the Switch for being unable to render even better frame rates and graphics with an even larger game gives me the impression that either NL has lost its sense of reality or the reviewers simply do not understand Nintendo's core, and long standing, philosophy and approach to creating toys, games and consoles.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

zidentia

The core issue within gaming and the computer/IT industry as it in general is the same issue that happens in many "communities". What starts out as smaller group of self moderating individuals who see the value in treating everyone's opinions and thoughts as equal components in the mechanisms of interaction spirals out of control. The group slowly stops self regulation as the splinter factions begin to exert control and people leave and then others, who think like their splinter group counterparts, join to create a larger less diversified group of individuals. There are some who believe in moderating that hang on hoping for change but they too eventually leave and look for a group or place that offers a situation that fits their way of thinking. This causes a worsening of segregated communities which then leads to a more divisive society within the tech industry and in the larger realm of human interactions outside gaming/Internet/IT.

This is what likely has happened here and what has happened over the years to humans left to graze unchecked without real peer pressure. Technology is a fantastic tool that provides those with communicative disabilities to reach the entire world. It gives friends and families the ability to be a part of each others lives but it also enables the worst in human behavior towards each other and to ourselves due to its inherent anonymity.

There is no way to fix this problem unless we all practice empathy towards each other and allow others to speak their feelings and opinions as they should allow us to do the same. In a fair and balanced society everyone will not be happy with decisions that are made but the majority should feel comfortable that every effort was made to find an adequate compromise. My hope is we all see that everyone has value.

Re: Soapbox: 10 Years On, We Need More Brave, Worthwhile Experiments Like Epic Mickey

The story, in my opinion, should have featured a deeper look at Warren Specters relationship with this game because without him this would not have come to market. The game did have flaws, such as the camera which could not be resolved by launch and Warren has said so both publicly and privately but they are not crippling ones. The game is really a great concept and I had beta copy for years but it disappeared and a couple of years ago I saw a brand new one so I purchased it and started playing again. It is still a really good game due to the balance of character traits and undercurrent of tension created by the decision making.

Personally I like the Mickey Mouse character, especially the earlier works Disney put out. Over the years the corporation sanitized him too much to make his appeal broader. I have the recent older style shorts of Mickey they put out and like them much more than the dumb-ed down versions they churn out these days. Walt Disney also preferred the original style of caricature he created and had several new Mickey and other early figures projects in development when he passed according to one of his last interviews I read. I was more of a Disney fan but the more recent incarnations of the company seem devoid of originality and too focused on empire building and image awareness.
