Re: Switch Is Getting Its First NASCAR Game This Year

zidentia

Oddly enough I was just discussing with someone else a Nascar PC port we both played in the 90's. I am not really a Nascar fan and spent a lot of time at the races for a contract position I had and it really did not change my perspective. I would have really preferred an F1 game

Re: Soapbox: Video Game Injuries Are No Laughing Matter

zidentia

Many gamers today have never experienced the carpal tunnel one experiences from repeated marathons at arcade machines in a standing position as your hands are are at a continuous 90 degree angle. This ancient practice along with years of programming have left me with periods of numbness and lack of blood flow in my hands due to a thickening of the wrist in the Ulnar tunnel. Weight training does indeed help relieve some of the pain and numbness but adjusting the length of time and the position of your arms obviously does as well.

Injuries, in video gaming or any other activity, are part of the danger of participating. Unfortunately, that is just part and parcel of it as we force our bodies to physically manipulate the outside world in a way we never did in generations past. The human body, in its present evolution, is still very much adapted to an agricultural or hunter/gatherer form.

If we continue to use the same input devices it is possible in several thousand years our arms will very much resemble our legs with thicker and larger wrists and sinewy forearms much like a cartoon Gaming Popeye.

Re: Don't Buy Devil Engine, Say Game's Artist And Musician

@BulbasaurusRex
I think, as was mentioned, it centers on payment. If they weren't paid, in many contracts this would violate the terms of usage for IP. If the publisher is not paying the developer which seems to have been sorted out then the developer is holding funds possibly to force the programmers/artists hand to relinquish their rights. It is shady but happens all of the time.

Re: Nintendo To Face Another Class Action Lawsuit For Switch "Joy-Con Drift"

zidentia

Actually with all of the crazy stuff going on before and during the US inauguration a little JoyCon Drift arguing feels warm and cozy.
As an aside I was formally in the "these people must be abusing their JoyCons to get drift " camp until mine started just before the extended warranty ran out. I limped along resetting primarily the left one to stabilize it but finally requested warranty service in March of last year and as of yet they have not contacted me to ship them in. At this point I am not sure I would if they are still this far behind. It also made me wonder why the Classic Pro Controller, which I have used heavily and still do on the Wii, with a similar joystick has yet to fail or drift in any way. I am sure they are different but I wonder how much?

Re: Arcade1Up Is Releasing Its Very Own Killer Instinct Arcade Cabinet

@Taceus
Well, I won’t lie I play Galaga quite a bit but it is a PAC man cabinet which my wife actually asked for years ago and I saw an opportunity to surprise her this Christmas and she was totally shocked and has fun with it.

I do plan on getting more cabinets and possibly a pinball game but I have to find the room or repurpose some space.

@Taceus
I just bought one for my wife. The material is decent and for the money it is better than I expected. Assembly takes a while but it is very simple and it looks good once it is done. I am not sure the joystick/buttons would take arcade style punishment but they sell replacement parts or you can retrofit the real stuff if you like. You definitely want the riser and I also bought the stool to match ours.

One issue that pops up is high score retention. We turn ours off after play and unless you follow the right procedure it drops the high score. If you do it the right way it retains the top three.

Re: How One Man Is Fixing The SNES' Biggest Weakness

zidentia

@TryToBeHopeful
The CPU in the SNES is not a bad processor and is really more efficient than the 68K. It has a 24 bit address bus and variable DMA which is what Nintendo wanted in addition to the emulation mode for NES roms. Yes clock cycles can matter but there are many other things to consider especially when the SNEs handled graphics better but was crippled in some games because developers could not get the data transfer hacks used by Nintendo to move fast enough.

Re: This "Impossible" Glitch Could Change The Way You Play Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Forever

zidentia

I am not a believer in speed runs as a thing but to each their own. Having said that this was painful to listen to, a bit convoluted and seems to actually not be a glitch but a remnant of beta testing that was not buttoned up totally. Additionally how is this a valid speed run when you are actually using the same file(per the system) to "start over"?

I am all for the odd bugs and dynamics that come from multiple developers making code but this feel forced.

Re: Random: Epic Games Apparently Still Needs Your Help To "Free Fortnite"

Hmmm, help a greedy non consumer oriented corporation to beat back another greedy corporation over money that should be given to help people worldwide who are out of work and need assistance for food, housing and basic needs.? I don't think so. Perhaps they should grow a conscience and help others instead of only helping themselves.
