I got one at launch at regular price. I collect these type of games but for the money they charge I think it is overpriced. I still wanted to have one regardless.
One of the glaring design flaws is the lack of a stand. It is designed to be a clock/watch but it only lays flat.
I honestly do not care for most of his music. There is maybe one song I like but the Autotune is out of control. If they were going for a vibe it would seem like The Weekend would be a better fit but I am not a Pokeman fan either. I do love the Pickachu song.
@Atariboy I am not going to get into semantics with you in regards to FPGA'S and ASIC's but all of the NOAC clones use some type of emulation(hardware or software) to accommodate issues like proper audio interpolation and buffer/ram incompatibility due to the lack of accuracy in prototyping for extinct components As far as software emulation it has been around for decades you just never realized it. Many have to port original code to allow to reduce playability issues. My perspective is likely different than yours as I have designed chips over the years.
@Atariboy @Damo The term SOC does not mean it is a hardware only solution. It only means the major components have been integrated onto a single chip for efficiency and ease of design for OEM's. Normally if you are not using FPGA then you are using emulation due to the complexity of obtaining hard to find parts.
For example, in your theory, the NES classic would have utilized a SOC for compatibility but they used emulation because it was more cost efficient and faster to manufacture.
@Tandy255 Well of course but I caught up with him a few years ago at an event we were both doing and he seems to have really changed recently. Still a great guy regardless.
Man Howard looks old. I am looking forward to it but it could be a washout like the last one. Hopefully they will confirm the things some us know but couldn't say publicly. Possible but unlikely.
The only one I think I have played is Blackthorne. I never played The Lost Vikings or heard of Rock n Roll racing. I actually just downloaded Blackthorne from Blizzard to play it again.
@yuwarite
Are we supposed to know what Resetera is? I have never heard of it but there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of these echo chambers where people like to hear each other talk as long as they agree with their ideology.
If Hideki Naganuma is practicing free speech and not committing crimes(based on his residence) then how others think matters little to me.
@Jakiboy
I think I am tired of the mining of the same genre trend. Much like Netflix movies of recent every director thinks if they emulate another decent movie someone will watch because they like that style. It has become an epidemic with the amount of filler offerings out there.
That being said this actually looks better than the others out there trying copy JSR. I may look at it further but sometimes you have to have your own ideas.
@Ambassador_Kong
You do not give any real details on why you are dissatisfied but this console has the most games in the shortest amount of time I have seen on any of their launches. I am not crazy about the direction the games are going but this is affecting all platforms. I would love to see more FPS, two player strat/battles and the like as opposed to the soap opera style animation of the current crop.
Other than that I am pretty happy about what is out there but the JoyCon problem is my real issue. I have been waiting since May of 2020 for service and I have decided to order the joystick myself and do it.
Gods looks interesting but I am curious how much it will be on the Switch. On PC it is in sale for $17.99($19.99 reg) right now and I thinking about getting it. I am not a fan of the tops down/three quarter view but it looks better than most.
Square Enix has been struggling lately to create games that capture the essence of what was a good play experience. I was an RPG fan and moved away from the genre and now I have started to re-immerse myself and the state of games today is disappointing. I downloaded the OG Dragon Warrior(Quest) and it is better than most of what they have out now. I do like DQ11 but it has its issues as well.
@NEStalgia said "The demo has me a little more optimistic about this one than before, but there's something that's always been "off" about the series, despite the hype." That is absolutely correct. Something just feels different like they had teams that did not communicate or they kept changing it without starting over. I was excited from the hype but it never measured up.
"@Leo2Kirby DLSS does not require an internet connection to function
You're confusing it with the fact that Nvidia's server farms churn 24/7 building the AI upscaling model that is used by the GPU to do the upscaling. Then this model is compiled into a file and distributed alongside driver updates. Once you've downloaded the AI model file, DLSS doesn't touch the internet, all work is performed locally using the downloaded model"
Actually you do need a connection because Nvidia has said it is an evolving process and with so little support for it to date, it will constantly be creating a new file to boost the images by uploading new data and the waiting for driver updates. The biggest change with the newest version is it no longer tries to learn from each game but uses a prerendered set of drivers to do this through the evolving algorithm. Again you have constant updates as games come onto the market and Nvidia has also said there will be issues in process.
The other problem is as the updates get pushed out it causes the Tensor cores to slow down to process the new data which may actually reduce frame rates in some cases and cause battery loss.
Lord here we go again. There are so many problems with these rumors as they are reported. Nintendo themselves have clearly said on more than one occasion that the Switch is believed to be halfway through its lifecycle. It does not mean though they will not refresh it somehow but radical change is unlikely.
The more challenging issues are as follows:
1) DLSS is certainly a neat trick to upscale but it brings inherent obstacles for the Switch
a) It uses a backend cloud to share the algorithm with the cores which means you need a constant connection. Probably fine for a docked console but limits a hybrid one
b) The Tensor cores have to share the computational tasks from DLSS which will lead to more thermal problems and the dock, in its current form, is not the best for heat dissipation
c) The use of the cores to add this pseudo 4K upscaling will decrease battery life in two ways. The power needed to run these tasks will pull available power. The constant data transmission, if in mobile mode, will accelerate battery depletion as well especially with Nintendo's current WIFI chip.
2) The cost of these "upgrades" even if they are as mild as claimed will still result in other hardware changes that will increase the sell through price and affect the balance Nintendo has on the value versus quality marketing.
3) If this is true and it is brought to market too soon or the benefits/upgrade value is mishandled(as in Wii U) it will damage the Switch sales and possibly create a negative customer perception again.
The article really lacks a proper structure and the focus gets waylaid far too many times. As far as the intent of the article I disagree somewhat. "The Legend Of Zelda" in the mid 1980's was a great game but it only built upon good text adventures where you felt you in the game not just playing it.
To my ears the sound difference is negligible. Sure there places here and there that are better but I think the lack of a microphone and depth of games was the real issue in the beginning.
I haven't watched them(Crackle) for several years due to the lack of quality and poor interface but I just downloaded the app again so I can watch this series to see if they get it right. Several people I know who were closer to this said they went much deeper than they thought they would but I heard that about the last doc as well and they edited it so much it was barely watchable. Here's to hoping they uncover something from the key players that has not been rehashed endlessly over the years. At the very least I will get to see Howard again and see where he is at. It has been years,
I may go for Ninja Gaiden but I was surprised and left disappointed about Mario golf. It is nice they are paying homage to Iawata but the game looks a bit weak. The Zelda game was the biggest let down for me.
Edit:
After re-watching some of the trailers I like that they are incorporating the Wii remote features into JoyCon controls. I think more of this would greatly expand the reach of the Switch audience and bring more innovative gameplay into the market much like the Wii. That being said I may get Skyward Sword but the price is a bit too high. Mario Golf seems interesting now but I will wait on that as it seems more like a pack in game than a full experience. I will get Ninja Gaiden but now now.
Skyward Pass is not my favorite and this is not the one I was hoping for. I am looking for Ocarina of Time. The motion controls are a good thing though. I may wait considering the price as I have already have too much to play now.
Bowser does seem to lack the same passion and that reflects on the mystique of Nintendo's brand. Of course he may good at his job but gamers want more of a personality and less of a suit when they look at the company.
@Bearzilla823
I agree and the Wii classic pro controller is a nice unit and does not seem to have the drift issue but it is hard wired and needs the Wii mote to communicate wirelessly but it is feasible. I have been using it play some more of the 16 bit style which require absolute precision. It is nice to no worry about drift but there is little bit of lag.
I saw this earlier on a better site and found this to be very interesting. I like the music and the gameplay seems nearly spot on. Looking forward to it.
Calculating the probability of a new(not warmed over) EA sports title coming to the Switch makes this as a waste of an article. I would rather see something once EA teases then rips away the possibility of a Switch port.
I am also not sure the Switch will survive as long as my NES, N64 and the others. I have seen YouTube videos where people tried to destroy them(Switch) and they could not but the real issue is build quality of the ancillaries and third party offerings. At least we have 8BITDO.
I have been expecting this based on some internal chatter from friends. There is a much bigger project coming that will need the server update and long term they have a lot of other plans.
