The only thing I'm really hyped for is the fact, that there finally are some major outsights for Nintendo incoming. I don't care too much about what they're gonna show. The past year has been pretty underwhelming for me. Didn't matter as there was just so much stuff to catch up to and some great indie games like Hades or Subnautica. But I was starving for some glowing lights on the horizon to come closer.
Actually the one thing I would love to see is a final announcement of Disco Elysium. They moved it to Summer and now here we are. I wanna play this now.
I rarely really get stuck on a game and feel the need to 100% it. At least not on a very arcadey level. I did it with games like Steamworld Dig 2 and Ori and the Blind Forest, as both were really pushing me to 100% them and right now I'm into Subnautica which also feels like a game I could keep playing forever, so who knows, maybe thats next. But when games just offer thousands of collectibles for completionists sake, I pass.
One game to definitely break anyone who clicked on the very first entries in the lists above is Ikaruga. This really is a game that I just play to celebrate losing.
@Dang69 Totally feel you, after being a Nintendosheep for over 30 years now, the Joycons are like the worst thing I ever experienced. Not just myself but also just looking at Nintendo acting like this wasn't an issue while there must be Millions of customers affected and annoyed now by this. If this is really a matter of how you build the stick, then I'd rather pay more for a Joycon that lasts than replacing them or sending them in every year.
And I sorta disagree with them being like SOny at any given time. I mean you're not wrong in what you mean, but generally, Nintendo stays Nintendo and they have been even more overbearing and corporate during the N64-times when Yamauchi was still the head of the snake. I felt like it gained some warmth during the Iwata adminisration, but in the end, it was always Nintendo and whether they made comments about them being superior to the whole industry or attacked every youtuber who expressed his fandom, they never lack the potential of being douches. Its always a sorta ambivalent relationship you have as a Nintendosheep, as there are quite some bitter pills to swallow, but I feel like they're slowly learning and in the end, thank god, the reason why we are here, their actual hard and software (despite joycons damn) never ceases to impress and jesus, for a company that's now around for over 130 years, its a goddamn achievement.
@Dang69 yeah absolutely, but still, while they just shoveling money here and then, it feels like a very fragmented concept. 3D Allstars is one way to do it, Wind Waker HD slightly different, then theres Nintendo Online thing, then they do a SNES mini.
Of course they do that, because they're Nintendo and they can just do what they want at this point. But still it doesn't feel like they really have a plan.
The problem with this is, that I would gain more trust if they'd appear more like people who know what they're doing. Assuming they would now release some kind of subscription based service like Nintendo Online but way bigger and more expensive, I wouldn't be as easily ALL IN as I would be with Gamepass (if I had an XBox) as MS has been working on a certain reputation for quite a while now. Not saying MS is doing everything right but if I was to commit to any Nintendo service that is demanding more than 20 bucks a year, I probably would really hold back. And looking how I would be the target audience and how the industry is slowly but surely moving toward these models, that could become a problem for Nintendo one day. Because the fact alone that they do this Nintendo Online service and can't ask for more money just shows how insecure they are about this themselves. They're barely supporting it with interesting things although it holds a lot of potential, also saleswise. 3D Allstars sold well now? Fine, but what if just a small part of the zillions of Switch players would subscribe to service on a monthly basis that would not suck for once? They might not have figured how much money this would actually earn them.
I mean, I'm a bit solitted here because while I do believe this would be a probably better working strategy that would make them look a bit more forward thinking and future proof, its really not like I love committing to subscription models all the time. But if pulled off right, it could just be a way better and more interesting solution than what they're doing now, especially for casual audiences who don't read online artickes about why they now can't buy 3D Allstars as an easter present.
Just because they need to earn money doesn't justify every stupid business strategy. I understand, this sells, but its also not very customer friendly. As long as its about games I don't need to buy (again) anyways, they can do what they want.
I do understand that for instance Netflix can only offer certain movies as long as they pay for the licenses so they will just regularly changer their offering. but for in-house productions its just ... I mean its generally ridiculous how Nintendo treats its old franchises these days. On the Wii, it was kinda weird how much they asked for old ports in the VC but then again, they still did it and it was a pretty cool thing and must have worked out for them quite fine. But now its like they don't really know what to do with their archive of gems. And then this.
@brunojenso I think you're explaining yourself too much. Just saying that you think it looks ugly shouldn't be such a big deal, its a comment section after all. I actually share this observation as I really don't like the whole design. And of course this is not about the artstyle as there's a similar kind of game on iOS called Junk Jack which looks just so wonderful yet also pixely. But one shouldn't need to put a (imo) into each and every sentence; I understand some guys can get salty but they'll always be, no matter what
for me the most interesting part is how this game sold quite equally well in all 3 gamingworlds. I mean PC is stronger, but theres a certain balance to these sales which is nice. Some years ago, everything would always predict the end of console gaming and mobile gaming taking over the world and I was just confused why it should ever end up like that. I mean its still a develpopment but still I guess consoles are here to stay for hopefully many generations to come.
And seeing indie titles taking off like this also makes me just happy. I don't care about terraria that much, but so cool that such a concept can find so many fans. I can imagine, realizing that their game sold more than Zelda BOTW might make the devs a bit dizzy.
I don't know what you guys are so pissed about. I got Hades during the X-Mas sale and it was like a month or two old at that point and a GOTY contender. Yes, Nintendo's own games are usually not getting big discounts, but some of the best indie games can get massive discounts from time to time.
I'm just playing Luigi's Mansion and somehow in the Intro it feels like Mario had some mental disability. You can't just always in every situation throw a line like "Oh" "Let's Go" or "Oh No" ... or can you? will have to try that out on my choleric boss in the next videocall
Even though ALTTP was basically a perfect 16bit experience, I might just buy this game in a heartbeat, should they remake it like Links Awakening and I believe it would totally work for new generations of gamers as well
3D World was just a dream come true beyond the realms of Mario. This was just one of my greatest mutiplayer experiences ever. Its so well designed, you can play with kids or friends who never played a game before as well as experienced hardcore players. They all had fun equally. I can't imagine how hard it must be to deliver for audeinces this different but it totally does and offers just this crazy explosion of gameplay ideas that feel like they had to add a plethora of additional levels to get everything into the game. People who didn't get to play this on WiiU, go and get the Switch version, its one of the big ones. But only in Multiplayer, in SP its sorta missing a lot of the fun you have in MP I think.
4 years in realtime and hundreds of hours in gametime later, when I see this trailer today, I still smile from ear to ear, feeling goosebumps. I really came for the fps and stayed for Zelda.
@redpanda0310 oh for a very long time it was way more expensive; i bought a download code from some guy and still paid around 30 bucks which was still way less than the official pricetag; so with 20 bucks you really can be lucky
I remember the utterly feel of third wall breakig magic that came over me when I first discovered this in BK. Such a GREAT TIME TO BE A VIDEOGAMER goddammit. Back then it felt like EVERYTHING was possible and mysteries like these, especially as a teenager, felt like some Illuminati kind of *****. So good. Today's audience probably would be like "meh, grampa, move aside and lemme play fortnight" but back then, this was the real deal
@redpanda0310 I didn't really love it on the GCN but expected so little when I still bought the WiiU version, that I sorta fell in love with it at that point.
wow. almost 20 years later, someone creates something that looks and feels similar to Wind Waker.
Of course it looks somehow nice, because Wind Waker does.
But jesus, indie devs out there, unless this isn't some study project, the one thing you guys are capable of is going, where no big studio has wandered before. So just staying in a safe zone like this almost feels like an oceanhorny thing to pull off.
Everyone who never played it on the WiiU: its a Must buy if you like multiplayer. among my best coop games of all time. Thats why I don't care too much about Bowsers Fury, so maybe I'll get it later
people this is a website that works through clicks and by clicking on this article, you approve that this article is somehow relevant. If you do this just to post how irrelevant it is, you are running danger creating a blackhole that might end the whole universe because this is just completely impossible.
I don't care too about Brie Larson, but I can understand that posting some clickbait like this here and then, especially as I still do know her and I think its worth mentioning what a huge nerd she is. If you get tired reading it, then find something more valuable in your life than depending so much on the thrill of a Nintendo-fansite's newsstream.
I can agree on Tropical Freeze. Its indeed damn hard at times, but the overall vibe just drags you out of lockdown into this happy colorful mess. Really loved that game.
watching this makes me wonder why they didn't do a Viewtiful Joe game in this kind of brawler setting. I mean it already is, you would just have to expand the 2d a bit intothe background. Would be enough to justify a next installment. damn, damn, VJ.
3D World is among the best games of the past decade for me.
When it got announced on the WiiU it almost felt as if Nintendo would be embarrassed to show it. they kept the ball shockingly flat compared to f.e. Mario Kart 8 or Mario Maker which where blown very big especially for WiiU standards.
Still bought it a bit cautiously and... I realized I would never play this game alone. This game did what Mario Kart 64 did on the N64 for me. Its just one hell of a great and fresh multiplayer coop experience. I played it with experienced players as well as less experienced ones and even when playing together everyone had fun. I don't know how they did it, but I imagine its not so simple to hold everything together like this.
I played through it with my wife who barely touches any gamepad. Then again. And again. And just the sheer amount of levels and worlds to unlock was just so good. Absolute masterpiece. Maybe not in single player which I really never tried to find out in 6 years. But for me this did for 3D jump'n runs what MK did for fun racers or goldeneye for first person shooters. It elevated the whole genre into the mutiplayer arena.
@Musharna I guess because just watching fortnite isn't so interesting as its really always the same setting while its quite enjoyable to see what creations people come up in miecraft.
Gotta say, Microsoft might really have invested right here.
Nintendo tends to do something like that. Like throwing out Wind Waker HD to please the audience after the next Zelda game would take years to come. And I would buy it. Only played the Gameboy game for a short while (wasn't brave enough at that time)
Looking at the chart emphasizes how sick the Wii's success must have felt.
NES: "WE'RE PRINTING MONEY!!"
SNES: "WOOHOO STILL PRINTING"
N64: "Well ...still making good profit"
Gamecube: "well. shut up."
Wii: "IWATA, DID YOU JUST BUY 90MIO UNITS TO FAKE THE NUMBERS???"
as a Nintendo-sheep since the NES, the Switch was the very first console I ever preordered. When I saw the announcement it was just completely clear to me that this is gonna shoot through the roof. Everything about it called success. The design, the fact that tech was at a point where it would enable pretty great visuals at low power consumption, the whole need for more portable systems that are always at your side fit into the time where everyone has his own netflix playlist, spotify-account and stuff that was completely taloired to be his/her own thing, it had this Nintendo-extra (like that whole weird but pretty cool concept of Joycons which by the way last much, much longer than a Dual Shock 4), it came with a great display, its interface was su much cleaner structured and minimal, its usermanagement and online service was ... lets say better than in the years before, the most hyped Zelda game of all times was announced as launch title, jesus, this was like the Nintendo-gods on the Mt. Fuji looked down on us and wanted to make us forget the struggles of the WiiU-era.
For me especially as a dad, this is just by far the best system ever made and I would also just preorder its successor, even if it would just be the same thing but faster.
Only thing I also have to say: This best thing also comes with Nintendo's biggest mistake ever: The Joycon Drift. Nintendo knows about this for years now and still its not solved. And it doesn't look like they care. Usually I really feel like Nintendo has a great quality control going on with their hardware as their controllers and systems seem so indestructible. Yet I cannot buy a joycon (for a lot of money) as I would be pretty sure that just a few months later it wouldn't work correctly anymore. This just isn't Nintendo. They did mistakes like the VirtualBoy but usually they reacted and learned. This time its really like "if we stay silent, people might still keep buying our stuff" and sadly they're obviously right. Every company would've come up with a new model that would looks and work identical but just have fixed this issue. At this point i'd even pay more. Its just a really bad smell on an absolutely wonderful product and concept.
Dig 2 was such a surprise. I liked Dig 1 but it really felt like an early indie game, created with quite low budget and still creating something special. But Dig2 felt like an actual Nintendogame. So polished, so well designed, so well balanced. One of the best Metroidvanias. And this means a lot as there are just damn great Metroidvanias out there.
I'm not really into cloud gaming, but it still feels like it would be a natural move from Nintendo to ofer a service like this, integrated into their AMAZING /s Nintendo Online App. I understand that this is what other companies would do and that Nintendo might not do this because it probably wouldn't sell more hardware at this point. But as a result we might also end up having a bunch of cloud-games mixed with a zillion games on the eshop. There's no cathegory there to filter for cloud based games and of course you have to pay all of them sorta separated.
As I never wanna think about the WLan signal on my Switch, I barely play online stuff especially when not hooked to the TV so as long as Cloud Gaming isn't offering more in return for going down that road, like Netflix' gives you a big library to just fully access for one fee, I can't be interested. Who would ever pay for one single movie to only stream? That sounds like a stupid thing to do.
i barely know a thing about that game despite that just the right people are loving it so I'm sorta excited to play it. But jesus when a port for the gameboy takes longer than the Switch version something ain't right.
Not so sure what makes this a DELUXE version over the WiiU one. P3 was like one of the very few WiiU games that made quite some nice use of the Gamepad. It was also a pretty weird feeling to play this game with Wiimote&Nunchuck in P2-mode and have the Gamepad like a personal assistant lying next to you but I also do remember that the map in P3 was unlike other WiiU games really added value to have on the Gamepad. Gotta play this game again.
As I remember P3 being among the best WiiU games and just this Pandora's Box of creativity, I was all in to just doubledip but realizing how much they had to cut in order to run it on the Switch makes me save my money and keep my WiiU.
@MajinSoul yes; when Cyberpunk got revealed, I was actually confused as it seemed too close to Deus Ex for me. But it seems to do its own thing, so i'm fine
@Zeldafan79 cyberpunk has never gone. some times there are more games, sometimes less, but it has always been a part of gaming. Sure now it enters one hell of a focus, but generally, Cyberpunk has been a popular subgenre ever since the 1980ies
As someone playing Switch and PS4 (amateur), I'm already happy when anything manages to run at FHD plus my TV is now about 10 yrs old, wasn't really that expensive back then and still everything looks absolutely fine on it. I'm quite happy for every year I don't yet have to buy a new one. And Nintendo of course won't waste ressources on 4K resolution; they will rather deliver a better overall performance and more geometry with 1080p
never really understood why people need everything to remain physical. there are the big games like BotW that you might wanna give to friends at some point or games that might not be that much fun after playing through them once so you might resell them. But a coop-partygame is a good thing to always have sitting on your Switch, ready when you need it.
@mr12calvin maybe people who just stumble through a store and think it looks interesting. Sure, it might not be the way to speak to the masses, but I can imagine that the audience of physical buyers might differ quite a bit in terms of how offline they are. Could be a mother, an aunt, a granma who just buy a game (with a very friendly name). Chances are there noone will buy this, but maybe its also an example for all the people insisting on physical versions.
BY THE WAY: 1.49€ are a shame for this game. I wouldn't pay the physical price, but its a really great game thats among the very few really good, superaccessible and fun couch coop games on the Switch
This should be a standalone app on the Switch where soundtracks get added and collected with games you purchase. Plus it would also be a good feature of the Nintendo Smartphone App. But well, why go down that road.
@Moroboshi876 of course they did; like the better battle mode in MK8D or funky kong in DK TF. for people like me who loved the hell out of 3D world, it might really be the one incentive to get me to buy this game as I played through it quite a few times and would really love to do it all over again. But even I might look out for a 2nd hand version online
@Ventilator thats the bitter taste of all the WiiU-ports. all of these things have gone now. Therey also no touch-functionality as you have to be able to play the whole thing on the TV standalone. Or maybe touch is possible while in handheld, but that would sorta split the concept a bit too hard for a game this accessible.
@quigtendo even as a WiiU owner, I'm happy they're doing them. like Pikmin 3 felt like a little masterpiece back in the days and especially at that point in WiiU's lifecycle where barely anyone had one, it felt like barely anyone got to experience this game. Now its really like P3 gets the audience it deserves. Same with W101 and of course 3D World.
@quinnyboy58 my wife isn't a gamer and 3D world was like the only game ever we literally binged through more than once. after we beat the game we just started another savegame. fun times
Now they did it. For a while NIntendo left me wondering why they aren't capitaizing the hell out of their old games with some kind of N64 and Gamecube VC or something. And now while PS5 and XBsX are coming, Nintendo's biggest asset are their old Mario games and it totaly works, I'm way more excited to have this stuff than buying a PS5, which seems weird to me, but still.
If anyone hasn't played 3D World before, this is among the best I played in Mario in 20 years. Its not a Odyssey-sort of exploring mario game, but its about as much fun to play this with friends as Mario Kart is. Or actually, I believe I would take 3D World any day over MK8. Played through it a few times (which I never really do these days) and still I'm kinda pumped to get that one.
If I had paid, I would still appreciate them making it even more enduring my multiplying its audience. Paying customers will get stuff to stay calm and in the end, if a game goes free I might have played for years already, I wouldn't care at all. I don't care how much or how little any gae I own costs today or what might have gone free to play in the meantime. Be happy about all the people that get the chance to play it now. People like me ... my buddy bought the game he's pretty happy about me now being able to play online with him. I mean we just used to play in couch coop, which might be more fun anyways, but still.
@Redax with JoyCon drifting, fans could have another glitchy technique to rock the rankings
jesus...just imagine an FZero online mode with 30 players. not that I'd believe Nintendo Online would manage that connection too well, but ...it would finally really be worth paying for.

Re: Feature: Best Feel-Good Nintendo Switch Games
I can agree on Tropical Freeze. Its indeed damn hard at times, but the overall vibe just drags you out of lockdown into this happy colorful mess. Really loved that game.
Re: Scott Pilgrim For Switch Becomes Limited Run's "Biggest" Physical Release Ever
watching this makes me wonder why they didn't do a Viewtiful Joe game in this kind of brawler setting. I mean it already is, you would just have to expand the 2d a bit intothe background. Would be enough to justify a next installment. damn, damn, VJ.
Re: A New Trailer For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Airing Later Today
Re: Minecraft Was The Most-Watched Game On YouTube In 2020
@Musharna
I guess because just watching fortnite isn't so interesting as its really always the same setting while its quite enjoyable to see what creations people come up in miecraft.
Gotta say, Microsoft might really have invested right here.
Re: Rumour: Has Nintendo Accidentally Leaked Metroid: Samus Returns For Switch?
Nintendo tends to do something like that. Like throwing out Wind Waker HD to please the audience after the next Zelda game would take years to come.
And I would buy it. Only played the Gameboy game for a short while (wasn't brave enough at that time)
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 68.3 Million, Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling Home Console Ever
Looking at the chart emphasizes how sick the Wii's success must have felt.
NES: "WE'RE PRINTING MONEY!!"
SNES: "WOOHOO STILL PRINTING"
N64: "Well ...still making good profit"
Gamecube: "well. shut up."
Wii: "IWATA, DID YOU JUST BUY 90MIO UNITS TO FAKE THE NUMBERS???"
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 68.3 Million, Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling Home Console Ever
@RainbowGazelle good point
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 68.3 Million, Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling Home Console Ever
as a Nintendo-sheep since the NES, the Switch was the very first console I ever preordered.
Re: Image & Form Reminds Us That It's Making More SteamWorld Games
Dig 2 was such a surprise. I liked Dig 1 but it really felt like an early indie game, created with quite low budget and still creating something special.
But Dig2 felt like an actual Nintendogame. So polished, so well designed, so well balanced. One of the best Metroidvanias. And this means a lot as there are just damn great Metroidvanias out there.
Re: Video: Does Cloud Gaming Work On The Nintendo Switch?
Re: Random: The Award-Winning RPG Disco Elysium Has Been Ported To Game Boy
i barely know a thing about that game despite that just the right people are loving it so I'm sorta excited to play it. But jesus when a port for the gameboy takes longer than the Switch version something ain't right.
Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Pikmin 3 Deluxe Demo Seemingly Revealed
Re: Switch Pre-Orders Are Now Live For Cloudpunk, A Futuristic Open World Adventure
@MajinSoul yes; when Cyberpunk got revealed, I was actually confused as it seemed too close to Deus Ex for me. But it seems to do its own thing, so i'm fine
Re: Switch Pre-Orders Are Now Live For Cloudpunk, A Futuristic Open World Adventure
@Zeldafan79 cyberpunk has never gone. some times there are more games, sometimes less, but it has always been a part of gaming. Sure now it enters one hell of a focus, but generally, Cyberpunk has been a popular subgenre ever since the 1980ies
Re: Switch Pre-Orders Are Now Live For Cloudpunk, A Futuristic Open World Adventure
had this on my watchlist, the reviews look good, the game looks good, i guess it's gonna land on my want-list
Re: Video: Here's How Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Could Look Running On A 4K Console
Re: Death Squared Is Getting A Limited Edition Physical Release On Switch
never really understood why people need everything to remain physical. there are the big games like BotW that you might wanna give to friends at some point or games that might not be that much fun after playing through them once so you might resell them.
But a coop-partygame is a good thing to always have sitting on your Switch, ready when you need it.
Re: Death Squared Is Getting A Limited Edition Physical Release On Switch
@mr12calvin
maybe people who just stumble through a store and think it looks interesting.
Re: Rumour: Port Specialist Bringing High Profile Shooter To Nintendo Switch
Rumor: Someone is possibly working on something.
Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Includes More Than 170 Classic Songs For Your Listening Pleasure
@LEGEND_MARIOID
Is that the one that came with Skyward Sword? cause thats one of the best things Nintendo ever did in terms of soundtrack-CDs
Re: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Includes More Than 170 Classic Songs For Your Listening Pleasure
This should be a standalone app on the Switch where soundtracks get added and collected with games you purchase.
Plus it would also be a good feature of the Nintendo Smartphone App. But well, why go down that road.
Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original
Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original
Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original
Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original
@quinnyboy58 my wife isn't a gamer and 3D world was like the only game ever we literally binged through more than once. after we beat the game we just started another savegame. fun times
Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original
Re: Rumour: Super Mario Remasters To Be Announced This Month, But Won't Launch On Mario's 35th
still good news, sves me some money...at least for a while
Re: Rocket League's Tournaments Are Getting An Overhaul When The Game Goes Free-To-Play
Re: Fantasy Strike Is Now Free-To-Play, Download It Today From The Switch eShop
"it's free, so why not trying?"
People, there's so much stuff you can do with your time!
Amen
Re: Move Aside Mario, A New F-Zero Twitter Account Has Been Discovered
@Redax with JoyCon drifting, fans could have another glitchy technique to rock the rankings
jesus...just imagine an FZero online mode with 30 players. not that I'd believe Nintendo Online would manage that connection too well, but ...it would finally really be worth paying for.
