Re: Rocket League's Tournaments Are Getting An Overhaul When The Game Goes Free-To-Play

valcoholic

If I had paid, I would still appreciate them making it even more enduring my multiplying its audience. Paying customers will get stuff to stay calm and in the end, if a game goes free I might have played for years already, I wouldn't care at all. I don't care how much or how little any gae I own costs today or what might have gone free to play in the meantime.
Be happy about all the people that get the chance to play it now. People like me ...
my buddy bought the game he's pretty happy about me now being able to play online with him. I mean we just used to play in couch coop, which might be more fun anyways, but still.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

valcoholic

@tabzer still for a family oriented company, this is indeed a weird thing to do.
A very large amount of the Switch audience probably doesn't even know how to update controllers, not because theye stupid but because they aren't Nintendo fans who would crawl all sots of Nintendo websites. Most people just don't care about these things and Nintendo used to be quite good at serving that audience.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Version 3.0.1 Is Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

valcoholic

@Heavyarms55
i believe one main reason might be that Nintendo wants to keep all players on the same page and if they would do many small updates, the userbase might get more fragmented which is OK with games like Playstation's dreams where the audience is probably older but MM2 is supposed to follow a start-game-play philosophy with as little obstacles as possible.

Still as I'm an old guy myself, I'd certainly welcome more updates as well.

Re: Burnout Paradise Remastered Is Out On Switch Today, Here's The Launch Trailer

valcoholic

@kepsux played Most Wanted U on the WiiU, which is basically the spiritual successor of BP. I believe it played absolutely nice. I really thought this would be a bigger issue as I also had BP on the PS3 and really liked that game. But if you don't keep thinking about how big of an issue this is, it might not have such an impact.

I still think Nintendo should just do analogue triggers at some point, as it can just really add something. But I sorta get why they aren't doing it and I can live with it. It definitely doesn't break the game, especially if you don't know the analogue version.

Re: Nintendo 'Indie World' Presentation Announced For Japan, Airs Tomorrow

valcoholic

So this was a thing for a decade now but I believe it's time to get rid of that "Indie"-label.
It's like a stigmata of weirdness that often just doesn't fit. "hey cool, wha's Hollow Knight about? .... ah ok, it's an indie game ..."

There was a time when it was something really unique that there are independent studios creating awesome games. But today it's like Indiegames are a genre. Which they aren't. In music and movies there's also a separation but not as hard as in gaming. And I feel like some Indie-devs might be dammned to always stay indie devs due to that. Instead, there should just be brilliant games, no matter where they come from and Independent studios should be just treated like any other studio. There are some who manage to get together with huge publishers like Planet Moon Studios (Ori) and they then do get the response they deserve. Due to that, Ori managed to step out of that Indie-shadow and gained respect among the whole community. But it's like one example among a zillion of games that could never make it that far.

I don't know, maybe I'm alone with this but it feels so unnecessary and kinda discriminating at times

Re: Rumour: A Planned 2.5D Metroid Title For 3DS Got Cancelled in 2012

valcoholic

Wouldn't wonder if we'd see that game again in revamped HD graphics coming to the WiiU. Mario 3D World was also something that started its journey on the 3DS and got moved over. Maybe back in 2012 Nintendo just said to Retro that due to the dark clouds hanging above the WiiU and the lack of any other Metroid plans for WiiU, they should finish their work on DOnkey Kong and then try to make the best out of that Metroid game.

I personally couldn't tell if I'd prefer a 2,5D over a 3D Metroid. 3D woud just help the WiiU more on the mainstream userbase while remaining a solid and great experience. 2D and 2,5D are both the dimension in which Metroid has always been considered to be played in and works better for some mechanics like screw attacking. Plus, as much as I love the Prime trilogy, the first one was actually the only game that managed to preserve the series' spirit, loneliness, atmosphere and so on. The dark world concept and the additional character in Echoes just didn't work for me as good and Corruption, while being one hell of a good game in general, didn't feel like a Metroid game at all to me. Too many, dumb characters, an actual army ... it just ruined the whole atmosphere which I actually play metroid for. At least in some parts. As I said, amazing games, but another 3D game would probably come with even more characters, cutscenes, story ... stuff that just shouldn't be in a Metroid game. At least not in a such direct way.

Re: Ubisoft's Uplay Application Hints That Watch Dogs Is Still On Its Way To Wii U

valcoholic

@Mega719 Yeah. They keep saying stuff like that. I'm actually not one of those guys hating Ubi for cutting their support or for the rayman-disaster. I, most of the time, understand why they are doing what they do. But I gotta say, there are developers who are just honestly talking about their products ... and there's Ubisoft. I can't remember when they didn't overhype an incoming game by completely overdrawn bullpoopoodoodoocacapoopledoople. If they say stuff like you mentioned, then of course they do. What else should they tell you? They always claim how amazing a WiiU version of a game is turning out to be and how great the WiiU is and so on and then they're coming up with ... just average ports of games. Sometimes with actually neat Gamepad integration or at least attempts for it like Blacklist. But in the end, WD is just going to be a port like always. So I just wouldn't expect a different experience. It's more like this game is going to sell so bad on the WiiU, that one major part, the seamless Online integration, won't really be able to shine here. And, YES, I'd be the first one to be very happy if I'm wrong about my assumptions, but I really don't think I'm going to be.

Re: Ubisoft's Uplay Application Hints That Watch Dogs Is Still On Its Way To Wii U

valcoholic

@Vriess ubisoft actually already said several times that that game is still in the line. They aren't saying when exactly though, but they've confirmed it already.

They shouldn't say yes or now, they should just show us what it's going to look like and at least tell us something about its WiiU integration. Maybe they aren't telling us anything, because we can already add 1 + 1 ourselves.
It obviously will be a port of the PS360 version (which is very bad) maybe with some slight graphical improvements (which won't help as the main flaws of these versions are like completely empty streets and that won't be just fixed like that) and the Gamepad integration will be an offscreen map, which might not be so original but standard plus OFF-TV gameplay, which is like the most important thing with this version and actually the main reason why I'm still interested in getting this game.
That's it. There won't be more, because Ubisoft won't put more money into that game than necessary as they aren't believing that they are making any money with it. If we are very lucky, then they maybe might include the coming DLC, but I wouldn't count on that. And actually, Ubisoft is right. WD on WiiU wouldn't have sold if it would've come in May and it won't sell if it comes out now.
Maybe they are waiting for Smash Bros to be released to measure how much better stuff is selling at that point. Would make sense.

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart 8's Diverse DLC Sets Up Endless Potential for the Franchise

valcoholic

For me it's the first time to see that Nintendo is actually doing something right in terms of Online distribution. I mean, they did some good things, but no jawdropper. Until this point. Pushing their flagshipgame with 16 additional tracks as a DLC is just priceless. unlike it's actual pricetag which is also very moderate. Compare the value of 16 Mario Kart Tracks plus new characters and so on to a NES remix that was even more expensive.
Nintendo, you're on a good path these days, don't let that go.

Re: Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Actually Has Two Wii U Systems

valcoholic

I really like it, when CEOs of competing companies are just something like honest, forgetting this marketing-talk and telling what's really driving them. Zuckerberg also claimed, Google Plus would be very good and I think, that's the best thing, a CEO could do. If I remember all those Steve Ballmer apperances, where he claimed the iPod or the iPhone to be the ultimate flop nobody needs, chances are quite high, that people like him turn out to be totally embarrassing themselves and their companies afterwards. Instead, just explaining that competition is also able to produce good systems won't change your fanbase's opinion. some of them might take a look at that product and move over there, true, but those ones might have left sooner or later anyways. in the big picture those people at least seem to have far stronger characters.

Re: Review: Art Academy: SketchPad (Wii U eShop)

valcoholic

@Nintenjoe64 Pikmin is a 10/10 if you love Pikmin and a 0/10 if you got no talent in strategy-actiongames then? you could probably say so for like everything. Of course, a drawing app is for people who like to draw. And actually it doesn't even matter if you're talented. just sketching around can be fun too. Just like in real life.

@topic:
I misunderstood some stuff about that app. I thought it would be like a free upgrade for the whole miiverse functionality, so everything drawn in miiverse will be on this level in future. too bad it's a paid app and not even that cheap. on the mobile device sector, that's the price for full featured applications or games.
still, i might pick it up one day, if I got some bucks to spend.

Re: Soapbox: Mobile And Tablet Gaming Is Creating A Generation Of Talentless Players

valcoholic

mobile games may create that generation because they appeal to people who wouldn't play otherwise. but in the end, they'll create some new hardcore gamers as well. the market we are speaking about is not about tens of millions, but about hundreds of millions of people. of course most of them will suck at gaming as common people do. but if there's only 5% of players who start thinking getting more into gaming after starting on a tablet device, then there are gonna be enough great gamers sooner or later who grew up with mobile devices.

PLUS not every touch device game is necessarily a bad game. There are really (I mean really) good and original games out there. just because every idiot is alowed to publish a game there, it doesn't mean everything has to be bad. Check out Osmos for iOS for example. I'd totally buy the first game on the WiiU eShop that is delivering such a nice experience. Or Sword & Sworcery EP.
The only thing mobile games are really lacking is a proper orientation for what's hot and what's not. There are a bunch of websites for that, but none of these are really into what would be a console-like gaming experience on a mobile device. I'd love to see something like that coming up.

The point is, mobile devices got their strengths and weaknesses as every platform does. There actually are Genres that are more fun to play on a tablet, than a home console. For example Telltale's The Walking Dead. The way this game works and how it's focused on interactive storytelling is perfect for playing it on a tablet before going to bed or when you're on vacation somewhere. It's like the 21st century version of reading books. While all games that are ports of console games coming with virtual buttons are total crap.

Re: Interview: Ubisoft On Splinter Cell Blacklist, Taking the Series Forward and Wii U Features

valcoholic

wondering why local coop has been cut while online seems to have been included. sure, online is quite stronger, but as no one ever plays third parties online on the wiiU (as we can see with mass effect 3 and AC3) offline coop would have been at least some cool multiplayer experience. I don't really believe this game will sell good enough so they will add offline coop with an update later. I'm still not sure if I'm getting it, the game actually looks great, but there's too much going on on the WiiU during the upcoming months.

Re: Video: Reggie Shows Off Wii U to Jimmy Fallon, Hilarity Ensues

valcoholic

By the way: say what you want against Reggie, but he actually can play that game. Maybe it's not the hardest game ever, but how often do you really see some CEO playing the product? Game designers, sure, but someone like Reggie? Shows that people working at Nintendo aren't just doing their job for a living.

Re: Video: Reggie Shows Off Wii U to Jimmy Fallon, Hilarity Ensues

valcoholic

it's too obvious that Nintendo paid something so Jimmy always keeps telling that system and that game would be the coolest thing ever and so on. It's not like I agree, but it's just not appealing really believable ;D
Still it's amazing advertising and hopefully really good for the sales situation. Especially Mario really looks so great. It may just be the same as the 3DS game, but it's just going to be one of the greatest coop-multiplayergames EVER. And that's why I can't even wait playing it with friends, those sessions are going to be just epic.

Re: Sakurai Aiming To Please "The Silent Majority" With New Smash Bros.

valcoholic

@BlackStar9000 haha indeed it would be, I'm more talking about Nintendo's family friendly policy which may not encourage users to punch each other. At least I can imagine this to be the main reason to not implement it, as they would have done that with SB on the Wii already.
But sure, I personally would like that too

Re: Sakurai Aiming To Please "The Silent Majority" With New Smash Bros.

valcoholic

@Mahe totally agree. really fun character.
maybe the only thing that would be nice would be a Mii. Not all Miis as this would somehow destroy the whole Smash Bros-Feeling, but one Mii would be fun.
But after all I guess Nintendo isn't implementing Miis because they don't want users to see their own avatar getting kicked and punched.

Re: Waiting For Wii U To Drop In Price? Not Going To Happen, Says Nintendo

valcoholic

The problem for Nintendo is that, no matter what they say, the truth is they just can't afford a pricecut yet. It's the first console they were selling at a loss from the launch on and they know it wouldn't really help them to make that loss even bigger. Of course it wouldn't be too smart to admit that and always acting as if everything would be strategy instead, but I really don't think Nintendo would've thought they'd need a pricecut 7-8 months after the systems launch.

Re: First Impressions: Mario Kart 8

valcoholic

@element187 thanks man. actually that's finally really good news about the system's architecture. I was always like 'well, everything looks good enough to be fun' but in the end, it's nice to have some extra power hidden in that system. especially because it doesn't make you feel like already knowing what to expect for the next years (in a technical way .. of course )
So. What I am now really, really thrillllled (yeah, with 5 Ls) to see is, what Nintendo is doing with that power when designing the real WiiU Zelda game, hehe

Re: First Impressions: Mario Kart 8

valcoholic

@19Robb92 this would be a blast. read about smash bros. what's bugging me about that is, why isn't NSMBU in 1080p then? That game could really profit from that resolution when playing with 5 players. It's not like it had better graphics as smash bros or mario kart ;D
but thanks for the interesting news, I think someone really should do an article about 1080p on WiiU!

Re: First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World

valcoholic

Maybe the game doesn't get me as exciting as Galaxy did back in the days but on the other hand, it's far more interesting than a NSMBU-style game. I'd say it's somwhere in the middle, offering elements from both universes. And in the end, it's gonna be the greatest Multiplayer Jump&Run ever crafted =)

Re: Nintendo Reveal Why Its 3D Mario Title Isn't Super Mario Galaxy 3

valcoholic

This game looks like the greatest Multiplayer experience in years. Although I gotta say it doesn't really look like a really good singleplayergame compared to previous Super Mario games. But as I'm just glad to have something for my Multiplayer Parties on the horizon, I just can't wait; should've been there at the system's launch instead of NSMBU

Re: Video: Watch_Dogs Behind the Scenes Trailer Shows MoCap in Action

valcoholic

@kereke12 I don't think that the gameplay scenes are WiiU graphics. They'd put something like PS4/XB1 there for sure, so don't expect the game to look exactly that good. on the other hand, it shouldn't look so much worse as I didn't see too much, the wiiu shouldn't be capable of processing. It's just that of course they would show the best possible graphics in a commercial video. When you watch the GTA5-Trailers, those graphics aren't even PS3/XBox 360 Graphics although there hasn't been any other version announced yet.

Re: Consumers Go Crazy For Wii U Following Xbox One Reveal

valcoholic

It's great but WiiU will need much, much more than that to finally reach a state of success. I'd love to see that coming, so don't get me wrong. I just wouldn't cheer too loud because of this anomaly. let's just lean back and see how everything develops and especially what the E3 Direct is holding up for us.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Next-Gen Challenge Starts to Take Shape

valcoholic

@blackside although I hate it when fanboys are denying that there's going so much wrong, I wouldn't say it's as bad as you say. I'm realy frustrated too, but more because for me the WiiU totally works perfectly, I'd even go that far to say it's the final destination of evolution to console greatness as it's just pure fun, as long as you got something to play. And that's why it really hurts to see Nintendo loving it up that bad. There's so much going wrong where even I could tell them how to do it ... at least less wrong.
If the WiiU would fall, which I'm actually starting to doubt, Nintendo wouldn't really understand and just try it again. They got enough money in the bank to give it another shot and I really think they would go for it.

What I personally could imagine as Performance with modern systems may allow such developments is some more mobile version of the WiiU. Like a Laptop-version of a gaming console that you can connect to your TV to play it like a WiiU, but also put it in your rucksack and play anywhere and it would be like the full-featured older brother for the 3DS. like a tablet is for a smartphone. I don't know, something in this direction, as the mobile market still grows and whether Nintendo wants to admit it or not, it still takes away customers, so as some users take their WiiU out into the train, showing that you can play homeconsolegames like black ops 2 everywhere, it would really be something outstanding to have a system that offers this as a system feature. Just a thought, I'd buy it

Re: Rewind, EA Is In Fact Developing Games For The Wii U

valcoholic

@MasterGraveheart Oh yes, ME Trilogy!
Although NFS Most Wanted U also is one hell of a great game, so it would be sad to miss the next game from criterion.
But in the end, it was all about Star Wars. My guess is, Lucas Arts used to have some kind of understanding or maybe even a partnership with Nintendo which is now moving things like they are. Certainly it wasn't EAs plan to get back to Nintendo that fast, but in the end I'm glad. EA may suck like hell, but still they are huge and having at least the Star Wars support from em will help the WiiU.
