Japanese video game developer Grezzo might not necessarily be a household name, but it's become known within the Nintendo community over the past decade for its work on The Legend of Zelda remakes.
In 2019, it released a remake of the 1993 Game Boy title The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Switch.
According to Nintendo Everything, the developer is now hiring for a new project running on Unity that's described as "medieval" and "stylish" but not photorealistic. It's seeking programmers, along with effects and UI designers.
"it’s indicated that the game will use Unity, VisualStudio, git, redmine, and jenkins."
"The approach to the game’s design will be “medieval” and “stylish.” It won’t be photorealistic, but takes elements from reality and puts a design twist on them. The UI designer will be for HUD, menus, and such."
Grezzo has previously worked on other Zelda titles such as Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D. It's also developed other Nintendo games like Luigi's Mansion (3DS), Ever Oasis, Tri Force Heroes, and third-party titles like The Alliance Alive.
What do you think this new project might be for - a new IP or something else? What Nintendo or Zelda game do you think Grezzo should work on next? Share your thoughts down below.

I wonder if it'll be another Zelda remaster. Either NES Zelda would be awesome.
Sounds like another Zelda game, but which one? That's the million dollar question.
Give the original Zelda or other 2D Zeldas the Link's Awakenings treatment! That game was a joy to play!
As cliché as it is, a unity upgrade rerelease of Ocarina of Time paired with Majora’s Mask would be absolutely incredible. Sadly we all know the fans more take care of that look then our dear Nintendo would/does but I love them all the same.
(but low key a ground up Link to the Past reboot would slay everything.)
3D remakes of the Oracle games... though wouldn't they need Capcom's permission for that?
Zelda 2 the adventure of link ?
Visual Studio and git are giving me major high school flashbacks 😂
Here's hoping it is an original project instead of another Zelda remake. Ever Oasis was fantastic.
@bluebolt777 basically the 3DS game was kind of rebootish for A Link to the Past...(yeah, new game but quite a bit similar. I think that quota has already been filled). id rather have the GBC games or Links Adventure remake.
Sounds like link to the past to me.
Zelda isn’t medieval.
Ever Oasis 2? I’m in a wishful mood. Loved Ever Oasis.
I think Ocarina of Time was the most medieval feeling Zelda.
Hopefully it’s a Zelda game, but a little late for 35th Anniversary to be anything other than a simple port
@Clyde_Radcliffe Twilight Princess was the most medieval looking for me just because of the architecture and the way people like Zelda were designed. It was fairly traditional coming after Wind Waker.
Is it crazy to believe that they are actually working on a new Zelda game? In my opinion there were already enough Zelda remakes. Even A link to the past got a semi-remake with A link Between worlds. I don't see why they should remake another zelda game.
Zelda 2 is the game that feels most medieval to me, and not just aesthetically(!)
Oracle of Ages/Seasons would be amazing, but perhaps it's overkill and LA is enough? I feel as though the fact they released as two games makes it a lot less likely to happen too - I know they share a lot of assets, both with each other and with LA too, but it would still be a lot of extra work for something that would surely sell less than LA did too (based on typical sales returns on "sequels" in same lifecycle).
In all honesty, Nintendo need to get the GB/GBC/GBA onto Switch. It's very disappointing they haven't done this already, and they are genuinely losing money to the likes of handheld machines like Retroid 2.
I'm not sure if medieval and stylish are words I'd use to describe Zelda. No that Zelda isn't those things, but that'd be an odd choice
@Medic_Alert my vote goes to minish cap. The diorama look of Link's Awakening would look awesome for the shrinking segments.
It sounds like Skyward Sword to me - "medieval, but not photorealistic". It's also the only 3D Zelda game that hasn't been re-released on another platform.
As much as I liked Link's Awakening, I wouldn't want to see that art style used on A Link to the Past or any other Zelda game. The mainline, more serious 2D Zeldas would look amazing with HD sprites.
Bring it on Grezzo!
@Narrator1 Unlikely. Capcom doesn’t own Zelda
Grezzo's software output:
> 2010: Line Attack Heroes [WiiWare]
> 2011: Ocarina of Time 3D [3DS], Four Swords Anniversary Edition [NDSiWare]
> 2015: Majora's Mask 3D [3DS], Triforce Heroes [3DS]
> 2017: Ever Oasis [3DS]
> 2018: Luigi's Mansion [3DS]
> 2019: Link's Awakening Remake [NSW]
Grezzo's software output as an assist studio:
> 2015: The Legend of Legacy [3DS]
> 2017: The Alliance Alive [3DS]
> 2019: Arc of the Alchemist [NSW, PS4], The Alliance Alive Remastered [NSW, PS4]
As far as I understand, only a very small handful (i.e. less than 5) of Grezzo employees actually worked on these games.
If I were to bet, this new game is a Zelda project. I've personally speculated that they are working on a remake of the Oracle games given how successful Link's Awakening Remake was.
What about a completely new Zelda 2D, Grezzo?? After LA, I really want to see what they could do if given the freedom. Same with Mercury Steam with Metroid 2D.
Or even a new IP would be nice! "Medieval" sounds right up my alley.
Just an aside as this is a bit related to Zelda Link's Awakening. I dreamt last night that there was a Link's Awakening remake on the Switch. But in Breath of the Wild style. I even dreamt its box sitting next to the already released remake box on my shelf. Two very different remakes of the same game on the same system. Now I kind of want that, not gonna lie. Curse you, stupid dreams! Hah.
I’m holding out hope for a Twilight Princess remaster
When I read the article was hoping for Oracle of Seasons and Ages remakes. However a new game would be much better. A new 2D style top down Zelda game would be nice since we already know BOTW 2 is already on is way.
I'm going to have a punt and say they are remaking The Last Story.
Grezzo are swell. Just a whiz-bang of a studio
Grezzo = Zelda Remake
“Stylish”
Tri-Force Heroes port confirmed
@GrailUK That'd be soooo cool! Loved Last Story! I really hope it comes back to life someday, being a remakster or a sequel. I really don't mind XD, I'd enjoy it equally.
Am I the only person that hopes it will be an original game? Ever Oasis had so much potential!
Seasons/Ages/Minish Cap All Stars style collection for the Anniversary would be lovely please.
Dream on....
@Question-Guru No, I would appreciate whatever they do
I really hope it's the first two games in the series. They really need a new lease on life.
Obviously it’s Faxanadu HD...
A new top down Zelda with this link would be awesome
@Narrator1 nah, nintendo owns zelda, not capcom.
I'm going to guess it's either Zelda 1, ALLTP, or the Oracle games remade.
@idrawrobots Depends on the Zelda I suppose, I would say most of them are a stylized fantasy medieval setting, however Spirit Tracks was western and Windwaker was Nautical so some variety I guess.
@Muh-ario @benchan @tektite_captain @nocdaes @Medic_Alert @Snatcher @Pokeman_noob @meltendo @Tourtus
All of you should think about where this is going. Why would Nintendo ever want to release TWO versions of the same game on the Switch? I'm sure you all know that Zelda 1, 2, and ALttP already exist on NSO. Yes, a remake changes a lot of stuff, but the story and setting remains generally the same.
@Mattock1987
I shall introduce you to Twilight Princess HD, the Twilight Princess remaster for the Wii U. If anything, it's going to get the Wii U "deluxe treatment" Nintendo gives to every Wii U game they port. At this point, Twilight Princess seems inevitable, but it's just a matter of when.
@chipia
There are still some Zelda games that desperately need quality-of-life improvements. In my opinion, there can never be enough Zelda remakes.
Everyone needs to forget about Zelda remakes here. Look at the image they posted, it looks more like something original. If I had to say one Nintendo franchise it could be, I would say Golden Sun. The picture gives big Golden Sun vibes for some reason. But honestly, forgot about it being a Zelda game.
@Pokeman_noob Zelda 2 was my first thought. It's a flawed release begging to get some fixes and a modern coat of paint.
While I'd like to see another Zelda-related project come from Grezzo - they've done an EXCELLENT job on the remakes - I also want them to experiment and try out original ideas/a new IP. Ever Oasis was an underrated 3DS gem, one that I wish more people had played. It wasn't a perfect game and had some rough areas, but there's a lot of potential in the IP IMO.
I love Link’s Awakening, I’ve played it more than any Zelda other than 1986 Zelda, but I hated the remake. The slightly off camera angle, floaty action, and strange slowdown killed it. I waited for it to be on sale and returned it anyway.
If they make something in that style I won’t play it. That said, I don’t think this new project has anything to do with Zelda or this style. ‘-‘)
@Deady
In my opinion the remake was beautiful and way more fun. I had Link's Awakening DX or whatever it was and could never bring myself to complete it
@Classic603 Yeah I can appreciate what they tried to do, the music and art are fantastic, they obviously care a great deal about the series. I wanted to like it, I just have serious camera problems in some games that make them nigh unplayable.
Hmmm can't wait to see it as it will likely be released on the switch. Suspect an new ip from the description
I prefer and expect an original game, but Minish Cap kinda fits the idea of "It won’t be photorealistic, but takes elements from reality and puts a design twist on them" the twist being they are gigantic compared to the main character. At least that was my first thought.
I recommend JetBrains Rider instead of Visual Studio for C# scripting in Unity. Eh. I'm sure dev is listening to rando commenter here.
A Link between worlds sequel...if they create a new overworld, that wouldn't be to bad!
I'm assuming a Grezzo Zelda title is wrapping up production now, and this is for whatever comes after that.
Nothing to see here
@ModdedInkling But they have Super Mario All Stars on the SNES NSO program and they have all the games included in Super Mario All Stars on the NES NSO program as separate games. I don't think Nintendo cares if they have different versions of the same games on Switch.
Another remake would be cool but I personally hope Grezzo is making their own original 2D Zelda title. Regardless, glad the team is working on something and I'm excited to see what it turns into.
@GrailUK you got me thinking a remake of Soma Bringer or Archaic Sealed Heat would awesome.
@Tourtus
But the key thing is that both of those are within NSO. If this is talking about a release outside of NSO, there's always the potential of questioning why you would want to buy the remake if you can get it on NSO already.
@idrawrobots Whoa. Didn't even think about those! Hmm.
@DeathByLasagna
That would be awesome.
But I doubt Nintendo will give them the keys to Zelda.
@ModdedInkling I suppose you do have a point there.
Streetpass Garden HD Remake
People fail to realize this could just be like.... not Zelda.
Anybody else really want a Legend of Hilda game starting Ravio?
@tektite_captain You must lead your fellow Tektites back into Hyrule. The next Zelda games should restore all the lost wildlife and sentient enemies, such as Leevers (in the desert or badlands), Peahats and especially Darknuts.
@ModdedInkling "In my opinion, there can never be enough Zelda remakes."
Totally agree. And I never actually played the WiiU Twilight Princess remake, so I'm all about that getting a Switch version. They might as well give us a WiiU Wind Waker HD remake deluxe, etc. Switch version too while they're at it.
Medieval doesn't fit Zelda IMO, so I have no clue. If it is a remake, Manish Cap...please!
If it's something new, cool, if by chance they just make a new top down, that would also be Zelda would be great.
Even though ALTTP was basically a perfect 16bit experience, I might just buy this game in a heartbeat, should they remake it like Links Awakening and I believe it would totally work for new generations of gamers as well
Oracle of Age and Season remake or a brand new 2D Zelda by Grezzo?
@ModdedInkling because it's easy money, most people would happily pay full price for a Zelda 1 or ALTTP remake. Plus, the NSO games are free, so it's not like a remake would cannibalize any sales.
Nintendo also released the remake of Metroid 2 on 3DS when the original Metroid 2 was on the eshop for years before it.
@DeathByLasagna does Legend of Zelda Triforce Heroes don't count as Grezzo first 2D Legend of Zelda game?
@weisske I came here hoping someone else would have remembered Grezzo's flower-breeding game! It's clearly their best title to date
@Giancarlothomaz
Tri Force Heroes most definitely counts as a Grezzo-original Zelda game.
@Muh-ario
I suppose anything is possible at this point. I'm just looking at the games that are simply not on the Switch, period.
@fafonio definitely not wrong! I mean, a Game Boy collection would be appropriate following Link’s Awakening!
Miitopia? HMM
