We've been told Nintendo would be giving The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD a lot of love in the lead-up to its July release and this very much seems to be the case so far.
If all the attention on the company's social media channels wasn't already enough, it has now released an overview trailer that runs for nearly five minutes. It shares some information about the game's story, plugs the "smoother and more intuitive" motion controls, shows off button controls (again), and provides a look at some more gameplay and the amiibo features.
"Soar through an overview of the story, characters, world, and gameplay of the earliest title in the Legend of Zelda timeline, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD!"
Earlier this week it was also discovered how the HD version of the 2011 Wii title would various quality-of-life enhancements - including refinements to player tutorials and "general guidance" throughout Link's adventure.
So, what do you think? Will you be giving Skyward Sword another playthrough when it arrives on the Nintendo Switch next month? Tell us down in the comments.

I'm excited to replay this on Switch. That being said, I'm disappointed with the water, lava and sand effects. They don't look great at all
Still kind of stunned that only one exclusive Amiibo works for this game and it’s locking a quality of life feature. Wish all the Zelda Amiibo had a purpose here.
After all the talk about how BOTW 2 appears to have stuff in the sky, and knowing how much of SKYward Sword is in the SKY. I think this re-release was done for more reasons than simply the anniversary. There must be some connection. I remember Skyward Sword has some time travel elements in it. So perhaps some aspect of that will return in BOTW 2.
And then add in the fact that we've not heard much about what's been added to Skyward Sword. What is the reason for that is because it's some connection with BOTW 2?
I already fully completed the game twice and played just for the story once, I have little desire to revisit this game but for first time players this is a solid experience. Not the best Zelda but even the worst Zelda is still a very good game.
Never played it the first time around so.
@Heavyarms55 ooor.. they probably didn't do anything but re-release Skyward Sword with new controls, and there's nothing additional added to Skyward Sword HD.
I was thinking of getting Monster Hunter Stories 2 but maybe I should try Skyward Sword
@anoyonmus Monster Hunter Stories 2 is probably worth more than a 60 dollar Wii port.
Never played it but it looks really awsome!!, Breath of the wild looked a bit too open world, to an overwhelming extent, also seemed a bit non storyish for me not as much direction as I like in my games. Skyward sword looks more my speed.
@anoyonmus I kinda have to agree with @VoidofLight, your going to get the bang for your buck with stories 2, with loads of content and updates for it, you can get this game at any time.
Fantastic game, hopefully people like it more this time around.
@Snatcher I have never played any Zelda game before. And I am not sure if I want to try breath of the wild.
That being said, I have played the main MH games before. And I saw that the Stories 2 gameplay is kind of like Pokémon ish.
That being said, I have way too many Capcom games on my switch. I have like 4 games from Capcom. I will have to take a break from that developer for a while
@anoyonmus Skyward Sword really isn't the best place to start. If you want to play a really good OG Zelda, I'd try something like Ocarina of Time 3D, Twilight Princess HD, or Wind Waker HD.
@VoidofLight yeah I only have a Wii, DS, and Switch. I was gonna get SS on Wii but at the time, I wasn’t interested in the franchise. I just liked Mario at the time.
I honestly don’t know what to get it. I saw that Stories 2 gameplay is turn based which kind of turned me off. I am not really a huge fan of turn based strategy games. Tried to get into it but I get bored from it
@Low_ink Twilight Princess and Wind Waker did something similar, but at least we got loads of improvements (other than control schemes), and better textures, as well as gameplay enhancements. I'm shocked the Loftwing amiibo isn't even included with the game, seeing as it locks a literal quality of life feature behind it.
I can’t wait for this. I just got a new Xbox and I’m more excited for more Nintendo first party games then I am for Xbox by far. I also got pikmam for 19.99. Today my Series x is gonna get dusty.
@VoidofLight pretty much an EA move
This trailer does a good job of showing how well they polished the look of everything. For a minute I was worried there would be a gulf between everything being in HD with the models not looking up to snuff with overlaying textures, pop-in, etc. Thankfully, it seems unfounded. Really excited to dive in on July 16th. With the growing appearance of ties between this and the new sequel, my Marvel- movie-loving self hopes there's something akin to "Link and Zelda will return in insert BOTW 2 title" once you finish the game.
That video has made me lean more towards getting this than anything (opposed to picking up another game on my list).
I wouldn't be surprised if the Loftwing amiibo acts similar to the Wolf Link amiibo in that scanning the Loftwing in BotW 2 will give you a Loftwing companion much like the Wolf Link companion in BotW. The bigger focus on the sky in BotW 2, a Loftwing would come handy for attacking enemies or retrieving nearby items.
@abbyhitter I'd honestly be mad if that's the case, given you literally can't buy the amiibo anymore, and locking a mount behind it is just.. dumb. I'd be more okay with that if it unlocked Zelda's loftwing, but you can still get your own loftwings in game, kind of like how Epona works in BotW.
@VoidofLight well said
@VoidofLight Leave it to NintendoLife comment section to be such a downer.
Let us hope and be disappointed after the fact, then laugh at us BEHIND our backs please.
@Heavyarms55 I mean, I'm not saying it to be a downer. I'm just not expecting much from this. They would've shown off the new content, if there were any. Like, if there's a cave of shadows type thing.. they would've revealed it a while ago.
Button gameplay when? Seeing that it has Good traditional controls might be the only reason I'd even think about picking this piece of crap up again.
@VoidofLight I was mostly joking. lol
Though I don't agree that they necessarily would have shown any new content.
Hopefully someday it will have sales. Not buying at full price.
Looks pretty bland...been there done that sorta vibe. I'm cancelling my preorder. Underwhelming imho.
@Sakaixx The only way it'll ever go on sale is if it becomes a Nintendo selects title... which I highly doubt it'll be, due to being a wii port.
Lazy port, but okay it's still a good game worth your money. If you have it on Wii though? I mean you could waste your money I guess but why? For hd? Idk. I gave my Wii to a friend who couldn't afford a game console so I'm happy to pick this up for myself again
I'll forsake be giving this one a go didn't play it the first time and I've heard this is a very emotional game(please no spoilers) and that's right up my alleyway
Disappointing that for full price they don't even give it facelift. Just boost the resolution, teak the controls and call it a day. Lazy as f... I can't believe that much smaller releases like Nier Replicant get updated to look like a modern game while Nintendo just keeps doing these zero effort releases.
You know, Skyward Sword was my first zelda. I know, I know..... Not something iconic like LTTP, epic like OOT or TP, not something creative like Majora, or Wind Waker, or mind blowing like BotW. As such, while I do have tender feelings for it, (everyone remembers the glory of their first Zelda) After replaying it I realized this is one of the weakest Zeldas. My first REAL Zelda was LBW and after experiencing that, then later LTTP, SS seemed really lackluster. The overlinearity is exhausting and the world's are small, and the game holds your hand every step of the way, and while the storytelling was great the plot itself was lackluster. I am going to pick this up because at the end of the day, it's a Zelda, and I need something to hold me over to Metroid Dread. However, I'm not thrilled to play it.
@VoidofLight well, its a skip for now and if no good discount, forever.
@METROIDDREAD The only thing I really liked about Skyward Sword was the added lore to the series, but other than that.. I probably won't play through it, as I just.. don't really care for it like the others. Way too linear, even for a Zelda game, and a lot of the mechanics just fall flat in terms of executions.
This one is wait and see. I bought the original day one but I never made it through the tutorial. I go back to it from time to time but I get so bored so quickly with the tutorial that I have never actually got into the game.
However, I like the music.
I just COULD NOT get into this on the Wii. It just seemed to have a slow start. But I really wanted that loftwing amiibo cuz it looked cool. I just don’t know if I’m getting this. I’m still bummed they didn’t announce a Zelda collection at E3
@Luigisghost669 I highly recommend psychonauts and nier automata if you have gamepass
@VoidofLight Yeah, I loved the lore stuff as well, The game is really important to the series in that way, but just too linear, and mechanics that are trivial at best and game enders at worst.
@anoyonmus Well I can tell you right now stories two is nothing like MH, And I agree with @VoidofLight once again, This game from what I have heard doesn't sound like the best place to start.
@METROIDDREAD Damn that bad, I haven't heard the term "Game ender" In a long time.
@MysticBlue02 Yeah, the game does have a slow start, but I got past that, and overall, I still enjoyed it, I mean it's a Zelda at the end of the day. Really when I'm immersed In a Zelda world I can be patient when it comes to story setup, but I completely understand.
@Snatcher Yeah dude, like I said I got through the end, and while in Zelda terms, It was disappointing, I did overall enjoy myself. But the game just has a lot of unrefined very frustrating sequences and/or filler, that really don't have to be so time wasting or taxing as they are, if it weren't for some unwise design flaws. From stupid cryptic boss fights you can't figure out, (In its defense the game has both some of the best and worst bosses in the series.) pointless filler, a tutorial that bores half the people who play the game into quitting, boring but required character interactions, handholdy companions, the silent realms, backtracking all the way to and through a dungeon you already beat for pointless fetch quests, and instafail sections, all on top of controls that don't work half the time. If youook at polls, almost 36 percent (now granted this is one particular pole on Twitter I am referring to, it may not properly reflect the true reality.) Of people quit midway through.
@METROIDDREAD Uhhhh? I might wait for a sale LOL.
No matter how the lady in the trailer tells us the story as if we're all 5 years old and makes it all very enticing and wonderful and great, the images shown only remind me of very tedious and repetitive gameplay phases. It's a shame because the story is great (can't say the same about how the plot unfolds) and the items/weapons/artefacts were very well thought too. The music is amazing. But the general structure of the game, in terms of progression (the same sequences over and over, filler mandatory quests and the sky — god the sky — that is as empty as Zelda's stare in this one), as well as in terms of level design (the world is divided into small maps that feel very disconnected from one another) doesn't make me want to double dip. And I really disliked the character design (Zelda looks absolutely derpy — a masterful Dobby the House Elf impersonation) which doesn't really help in an action 'rpg'.
That said, it's still a game everyone should try because of the story and probably the fixes they made. I didn't have a bad time playing it, but out of all the remasters/remakes that were made out of Zelda games, this is the only one I don't want to go back to.
@Snatcher LOL, 😆😆😆 Yeah. That's reasonable. But remember, while the game can be frustrating and one of Link's lesser adventures, at the end of the day it's a Zelda, and it does have cool lore, and really creative dungeon design. I'm not trying to be a dream crusher or anything.
@echoplex Yeah, but you know what, the tedious sequences and controls are surprisingly not the biggest problem here in my eyes. It's that overwhelming linearity.
@METROIDDREAD I didn't have issues with the controls (I found the Wii Motion+ worked fine but I still wonder to what extent the original Wiimotes couldn't do the same). One of my issues is that it was not designed as a system seller but an accessory seller, and it really shows in the game, too many times.
@echoplex Huh never thought of it that way, I always thought that the motion plus was created out of need to make games like this but that's an interesting perspective I'll keep in mind.
Need my glasses on, not seeing much of a difference from the previous one.
@METROIDDREAD I remember quitting right at the first dungeon, since I was bored out of my mind as a kid. I kind of want to revisit my Wii copy, and give it another try though, mainly to see if it's as bad as I remembered.
@VoidofLight Oh you made it to the first dungeon ? For me the opening introduction at skyloft was too much and extremely boring. By the time i competed it i just stopped and went to play other games.
@arpaktiko Yeah. I think I made it to the end of the very first dungeon, and then just sort of lost interest. The story was really slow at the start, and I remember being forced to search for Zelda.. which went at a crawl.
this is going to be great . so glad switch is getting this and changed to button cobtrols. just like mario party super stars. I am glad these games are button controlled now.
@METROIDDREAD No I don't think you are at all, thanks for the heads up tho, I will think about this if I ever want to buy it.
Love this game. It's definitely up there with the best LoZ games in my opinion. I just can't imagine playing it any other way than with the Wii remote and nunchuck setup.
I'm actually excited to finally have a traditional 3D Zelda game on the Switch
No mention of Fi interrupting the gameplay - let's hope that's because they fixed that complaint from the Wii version
@anoyonmus if you have Nintendo Switch Online you could play A Link to the Past on the Super Nintendo app. It's obviously a bit different than a modern 3D Zelda game but in terms of general structure, story etc. it's pretty similar and it is still considered one of the best games in the series.
@anoyonmus this was the first 3D Zelda game I played to completion. I found the first hour a little tedious, but after that I had a really enjoyable time with it. It gets a lot of flack in that it has a lot of hand-holding, but if you’re not familiar with previous Zelda 3D games then you’ll find that help invaluable (and it cut down too much pacing backwards and forwards wondering what to do next).
I got this preordered with all the bits and bobs. Great game. I just can’t find much of a difference to have HD in the title.
Windwaker to this day is a great looking game but you can tell it apart to windwaker HD. Skyward sword just looks so similar
I am Groose.
I forgot about that bloody harp! Very annoying.
One thing I hoped they have tweaked is the dungeon difficulty. If you took out some monsters and then you died, they remained dead. So you could brute-force your way through some rooms.
Graphics still look lovely, but I can't see why they couldn't have given them a spruce.
The beetle is probably my favourite Zelda item
Oh, and I hope the shop keepers are all still really angry
@1UP_MARIO It's literally because it now runs in HD. It never did on the Wii. Its a shame they haven't put a bit more work into textures. etc. However, I adore the art style of SS. I remember playing it on the Wii back in the day and imagining what it would look like in HD. Same as Mario Galaxy.
@Jey887 I like the art style and the 60fps is a welcome. I just feel they good of worked abit more on the textures. I played this on a plasma screen with componant cables back in the day and that looked good as this
Skipped the Wii generation so this remains the only main Zelda I've not played yet. Have it on pre-order, was really looking forward to it, and now more so after that trailer.
some of the sky stuff looks nicer with the higher resolution, but it does not look like they did any work on this game, & there is lots of work to do
@Inaroomalone if its ur first game, the hand holding might be nice; the handholding is only beneficial for 5 years old (maybe), but five year olds can't read, so therefore it's not. I watched my 6 year old nephew get frustrated to bits by the useless & invasive text boxes
@METROIDDREAD This game gives "linearity" a bad name, the game is full of brain dead filler that seems to be out of a platformer, except this game is not a platformer, thus it doesn't work; not to mention that no idea is a one & done in this game. Yes timeshift stones are cool, but I don't want to see them in 4 separate extended sequences.
@Dethmunk, ok, so either Nintendo did a lazy port, or they wasted precious time & resources to resell a game, yet without providing ample reason to repurchase that game (probably get it on ebay for 15 bucks), both sound bad. Moreover, by Aonuma's own admission, WW HD took six months to port, & they did far more work on that than it looks like they did for this. Btw there is nothing wrong with the control scheme in SS, if anything the control scheme will be worse with the joy-cons, since there is no sensor bar to auto-adjust, & the stick controls look immensely clumsy, & will feel like garbage with the joycon sticks.
I still think there is no reason to buy this at full price if you have played before.
That aside however, I love the random clip of Groose screaming at 3:41 in the video. That is perfection. Groose and his theme is probably the best reason to get this game.
60 Bucks... as much as I love this franchise. I don't want to pay this prize a second time. The original gave us a special Wiimote on top. But this? Worth 40€/$
The zelda timeline is bs and really shouldn't be a selling point. Did they add ANY new features that justify the 10$ process hike and aren't locked behind a 25$ piece of plastic?
This “remaster” is a joke. I bought resident evil 2 remake and diablo 2 resurrected at cheaper prices. Games where there is a big difference/change and quality of life improvements. This “remaster” reminds me of that office meme: it’s the same picture
@Gamerdudesteel Nintendo is getting too greedy and lazy, as long as people keep throwing money their way, Nintendo will only get worse.
@My_ultimate_is_ready
But it's not a remaster - all they've said is that it's a HD version.
@Dethmunk "Most of you have no idea how much work is involved in picking apart code from a decade ago. Converting model files and updating texture files from a decade ago. It's not simply push a button and done."
No port is a "push a button and done" job. That said, doesn't mean a port can't feel lazy. Sure, Nintendo may have had to rewrite the controls for Switch inputs and may have done some other quality-of-life improvements here and there. Doesn't necessarily mean it is worth the same as a full-price title. They didn't have to develop the story or setting this time. The dungeons and areas have already been designed, enemies already made. They might of had to implement them, but it is arguably a lot easier to port something than it is to make something new.
Not to mention, this port doesn't offer as much as other ports Nintendo have . To use some Switch examples, 3D World had Bowser's Fury, which is an extra "adventure" which took 3-4 hours to 100% (at least for me, got a copy for a friend, and I wasn't even rushing through it), and then Pikmin 3 Deluxe also involved new missions with Olimar and Louie, which were similar in structure to the mission mode (from what I can tell by watching people play through them) not to mention, that at least included DLC which you originally had to pay for separately in the Wii U release. In both of these cases, I would also argue that they weren't worth full price despite the additions, but that at least felt like visible additions. The only additions Skyward Sword HD has is button controls and an QOL function locked behind an Amiibo which you're paying an extra £22 for the privilege on top of the full price. Nintendo are welcome to price their game at whatever they feel their effort was worth, but just as equally, people can understandably disagree.
"It staggers me how ignorant and abusive a lot of you are towards Nintendo and devs in general."
Ignorant possibly. But who is being abusive here? Did someone send death threats to the developers' families or something?
"I think it's quite disrespectful of a lot of comments on here to say Nintendo have done a 'lazy' port."
You're welcome to that view, but I am willing to bet you yourself have seen a port of a game come to Switch which you have called lazy. Would that also not be disrespectful to whoever developed it?
"If you're not interested in the game, aren't going to buy it or play it, then fine, but do we have to read your ill informed garbage in a comments section."
As you said, this is a comment section. People comment. You're welcome to think that what someone says is not worth listening to, but that person is also welcome to put whatever they please as long as it doesn't break the rules.
@Rambler makes it even worse then, a price increase isn’t justifiable, when you compare it to other games that have been remade from the ground up and still are cheaper
What a barrel of laughs this comment section is. Imagine how much fun a Nintendolife gathering would be....just a bunch of sullen sods avoiding eye contact and grumbling about everything under the sun.
Makes me think of this. https://youtu.be/02a723LsoFA
@Dethmunk
While I do think that people complain too much, many of the criticisms are valid. I also believe that you are throwing more shade than those on this comments section.
Also, just because many of us are big fans of nintendo, doesn't mean we have to give them a free pass when they exercise the same anti-consumer business practices that competitors take.
While I agree with some of your comments on entitlement and lack of gratitude, it's okay to have some criticisms and dissent with those who create our games. They build, but we also buy and support them.
I genuinely think I must have played a different Skyward Sword from most people here; I absolutely loved it!
Although, I'm not buying it again for full-price with minimal changes.
@Dethmunk look at Nier Replicant and then look at this. Both were originally released around the same time - which one do you think was put more effort and care to re-release. Hint: it’s not Zelda.
Nier replicant has updated textures, lighting, revamped fighting mechanics to match Automata. It looks closet current standards. Zelda looks…the same as it originally did
We’ll be picking it up at our home. That said…it would have been nice to see lighting/textures spruced up a little. 60fps (it seems) looks really great though. After running through the HD remasters(?) of Twilight Princess and Windwaker in the last couple years, having lighting and textures reworked helped those games feel like somewhat newer experiences.
Still. I love the ambiance in this game. Yes it’s very linear, but it’s still a lot of fun. Looking forward to it!
@Dethmunk "As for the hate for the Amiibo implementation, what the hell? The whole point of Amiibo is to give the people who buy them some extra functionality and boost"
I think you got it wrong there chief, the whole point of the Amiibo is to lock functionality that could otherwise be included in the game behind the purchase of some "toy figures", so that we can squeeze some additional dollars out from gamers that would otherwise not be interested in buying them.
There I fixed it for you.
After watching the trailer, I think I'm out. It reminded me of a lot of tedious parts of that game.
@Dethmunk "You have done exactly as many others have, just decided that the additions made are just small fry. Not important, easy to do."
Please read my comment again. I said it was "easier" to port a game than make something new. I never said it was "easy to do".
"Yes I may have called some ports lazy myself, I do have an appreciation of what goes into ports. Some ports are lazy in that they write an emulator and then are done with it. There are a few I can think of (even then there is some work to do). This is far from a 'lazy' port and anyone with any experience of the games industry will know why. They've probably had a decent team on it, QA to test it, especially with all the new additions, marketing, cart production costs, amiibo production, this isn't chicken feed you know."
So how are you defining "lazy" then? I guarantee you, other ports probably also had a dev team, marketing and QA. What makes their work any lazier than Nintendo's? Or is Nintendo's lazier than the others? You yourself even acknowledge that even ports where it is being run in an emulator they developed do require work to get to that point. Isn't calling that lazy disrespectful as you said in your original comment?
Not everyone is going to have a full understanding of what happens in a games development life cycle, and people are going to have their own interpretation of what "lazy" is. You can disagree, but again, people are allowed to say that.
"But sure they should do all that and just pump it out for $20. Jeez."
Doesn't have to be that cheap, just not full price. It looks strange when you have a port which costs more than the original did at launch.
Does anyone actually like this garbage game? I heard that some people were tricked into liking it years ago, but I think that’s an urban legend.
@VoidofLight Yeah, you start to wonder why you are playing hide and seek with forest creatures, and riding birds in races when you want an actual Zelda adventure. The dungeons are good though, it's a shame that the game just can't hold up because of its other elements.
@Snatcher Yep, just doing my duty for my fellow comrades.
@VoidofLight Searching for Zelda was grueling, oh my gosh. If you kept playing the game, you would get really frustrated with that, and it's just not much of a motive.
I missed out on the game back on the Wii. I absolutely adore this game's art design and music, so I will definitely be picking this up as soon as I can!
@NintendoArchive Yeah, and linearity isn't always a bad thing. I prefer bigger worlds to explore especially in Zelda, but LTTP is still one of my favorites of all time. But that 3 separate area thing was stupid. It felt really artificial, and got samey, because those are the only places you go to. Over and over.....
I think I might revisit when it comes out, it's been awhile since I've played. I recall really liking aspects of the game while really disliking others. The repeated boss fights with that big derpy looking monster come to mind as one of the bad elements. However, the final boss fight stands out in my mind as one of the more epic Zelda bosses. You could say this game is a mixed bag.
Are we going to be able to play on hero mode right from the start?? I hope so, because I want to give this game a second chance.
I sold my Wii long before this came out and couldn't get into Twilight Princess despite multiple attempts. Wrong time and the start was all too gloomy. Excited for some new (to me) old school Legend of Zelda action.. In a way that BOTW and Links Awakening couldn't hit the spot.
@Dethmunk You are incorrect about Wind Waker not having changes in the control scheme since it added motion aiming and some touch control features for item selection and using the baton. They also implemented Miiverse functionality into the game with the Tingle bottle, which is likely far more original code than adding amiibo support. Mapping the aiming in Skyward Sword to a second joystick and adding amiibo support are likely very easy to implement. I expect Nintendo having a library for the NFC-functionalities which can easily be imported in the source code of a switch game. It likely requires some testing and tweaking but that has to be done for every project.
Nintendo also has their own Wii emulation software which they already have used before to port Mario Galaxy and I expect they did the same with Skyward Sword.
Never played it the first time (no wii-motion plus controllers), so excited for this. Why am I not loving the graphics tho? I'm a huge fan of Twilight Princess, including the overall visuals, but I look at this and go bleh.
This game looks ugly and outdated for 60€
@Dethmunk "If you're not interested in the game, aren't going to buy it or play it, then fine, but do we have to read your ill informed garbage in a comments section."
Which would be wiser? Going to the forum section, starting a new thread titled "Skyward Sword Sucks" where everyone who hates the game will keep ranting about the same things over and over? Or keeping comments (negative or positive) in a news piece dedicated to the game where people of both opinions can actually interact?
@1UP_MARIO oh really? I just played with a bog standard scart and just kept thinking about how blurry it looked all the way though.
@WiltonRoots Brilliant
Have I missed whether they’ve added quality of life improvements to this outside the one locked behind an amiibo?
Original game had some real issues. It was a decent game but thinking about going back to it with those annoyances intact is not appealing to me at all, especially when they don’t look to have done much with it on the visual front beyond a resolution boost/60FPS. I’m honestly pretty forgiving of companies porting old games to Switch even when they’re full price because of the value I see in handheld mode but this is going to have to improve a lot for me to consider buying it. Close to vanilla Skyward Sword in HD is not a good enough game to warrant another purchase of it for me- really need to know what they’ve changed (if anything much at all) before I even consider it.
SS had too many problems, so it’s a big pass.
This is definitely one of the best Zelda games in existence
@My_ultimate_is_ready
Oh totally.
To echo @RainbowGazelle, I love this game, despite its flaws, but I'm going to get this much later on, second hand if poss.
There's not enough here to justify full price.
I never owned a WiiU, so HD WW & TP would be a different story (although that would be the third time for TP, so even then...)
@Heavyarms55 They released Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD 10 years after their original release dates and will do the same with this. I think the similarity to BOTW 2 is obviously intentional in terms of gameplay, but not release date.
@anoyonmus Maybe get a Gamecube controller which works on Wii and pick up Wind Waker or Zelda Collectors Edition (it includes Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask). Theyre Gamecube games but work on Wii since it's backwards compatible. Those are three of the best video game experiences ever made.
Loved the game back in the day, but this one is ugly...
@Li_Bae yes.. lots of us.. play it and ya might like it to... if not.. toss off with ya garbage comments
With Wind Waker and Twilight Princess they improved things by shortening some of the more mundane tasks - I wouldn't be surprised if they've done the same again here. A lot of people are saying "they haven't done anything! Only up-rezzed it!", talking as if they actually have this version in their hands and have completed it already. But they're probably the same people who say reviews on this site are wrong without even playing the games.*
To me this is a brand new Zelda game, roll on July.
*Edit - looking forward to the Mario Golf review, where of course the review score will be totally wrong...😂
I am Intrigued about the story and the combat system , but i just spoiled my self about the silent realms , and i believe the stress in the trial of the sword (botw) was enough Any veterans here to give opinion ?
Still no mention of the tedious, repetitive boss battle thing that categorically ruins this game.
A great adventure is contained within this game, but it's punctuated by some terrible gameplay. It's not quite as bad as the Super Monkey Ball boss battles ruining that game, but you have been warned...
@Dethmunk It all started with Mass Effect 3 and Bioware caving in to the rabid fanboys who completely missed the entire point of the trilogy, and who lacked common sense (no matter how many choices you have/make, it always boils down to very few in the end, that's how choices work). Ever since then the entitlement on social media explosion happened and now we have these fake gamers who think they deserve everything without exception in their idealized interpretation of what is acceptable. I'd love to see some of them try to appeal to their own crowd and handle the narrative from their own toxic community, they'd break in less than a week and walk away because of ungrateful swine like themselves.
On a different note, I can't wait for this release! A great game from start to finish.
This game looks ... rough.
I can’t go back from Breath of the wild to this ugly port of a decade-old game, for the full price of 60€
People who don't know that game should definitely give it a chance. It was and still remains pretty polarizing at might also have beein one of the reasons why Nintendo decided to ditch the classic formula and go full Open-World with BotW, but despite some problems, theres one masterclass of great gamedesign hidden behind some annoyances.

Pros:
Today's young players should understand that for about 2 decades, Nintendo would create the same Zelda-concept in different shades. Sometimes with water, or with a dark world. But ultimately it was always the same structure and a very similar story that let you really foresee most events and game events. In this game they obviously tried to stick with the classic structure, but try to bend it as much as possible so people wouldn't notice with a different art style, motion controls, that story-setting. In the end, it remained that pretty linear Zelda-experience as they did it since ALTTP or OoT, but also managed to throw so many awesome ideas and concepts at you, it couldn't be ignored.
So people who are into Zelda should definitely have played this. Plus the Soundtrack is still one of the best in the entire series.
