It's been... 83 years... since we last played The Wind Waker. Despite our repeated cries for the Wii U version, which only Wii U owners played, to be ported to the Switch, we have not yet seen the slightest glimmer that this hope will come true. Sob.
Luckily for us, the upcoming procedurally-generated game Sail Forth might just scratch that seafaring itch with its cel-shaded oceans, tiny islands, and sailing physics. Unlike Wind Waker, we might actually get to shoot at other boats. Splooooooosh!
Sail Forth was announced back in 2019, with an "early 2020" release date. Evidently, that didn't happen - we're willing to blame the pandemic if you are - and the updated release date on the website is simply "2021". The new trailer shows off some of the gameplay, including the Giant Enemy Kreb, which hopefully means we won't have too long to wait until we get to try it out for ourselves.
Does Sail Forth tickle your fancy? Let us know in the comments below.

Wind Waker = YES!
This = um?
Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me...
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility...
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.
@cyrus_zuo big crab though
I L O V E windwaker I have the GC ver and the Wii U ver!
This looks like it could REALLY be my kind of jam. Hope it delivers.
Actually its been 84 years
That is some actually nice looking water.
I never got round to the wind Walker remake on Wii u so would actually love Nintendo to port that to switch!
wow. almost 20 years later, someone creates something that looks and feels similar to Wind Waker.
Of course it looks somehow nice, because Wind Waker does.
But jesus, indie devs out there, unless this isn't some study project, the one thing you guys are capable of is going, where no big studio has wandered before. So just staying in a safe zone like this almost feels like an oceanhorny thing to pull off.
oceanhorny. what the hell
@redpanda0310
I didn't really love it on the GCN but expected so little when I still bought the WiiU version, that I sorta fell in love with it at that point.
@KateGray Big crab? No, Giant Enemy Kreb...
This game looks really good. A mix of peaceful gameplay and some action thrown in with enemies like that crab.
A wind waker port to switch would awaken the wind waker fan in us a lot more.
Sploooooooosh!
I don't know if they're Alaskan king, but... they FEEL huge.
@Kang81 Interesting statement 🤣
I was really hoping windwaker would come to 3ds after how great Majora's mask turned out. But that ship has sailed. I'd love to see on switch. Also you got to sorta shoot other boats in windwaker, the bombs fired from the cannon and there were stupid little enemy boats. Not great but it did happen
@valcoholic Yeah the Wii U ver was amazing plus it was only 20$
@redpanda0310 oh for a very long time it was way more expensive; i bought a download code from some guy and still paid around 30 bucks which was still way less than the official pricetag; so with 20 bucks you really can be lucky
@valcoholic Really? Huh
