Pokemon HeartGold SoulSilver

Nintendo has applied for Pokémon HeartGold And SoulSilver trademarks in its home country of Japan, reports Japanese Nintendo.

Both trademarks are said to cover 50 different types of products and services – including video games, as you might expect. The trademarks were filed on 7th September 2020, with both applications being published today, 23rd September, arriving just days after Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures applied for a trademark for legendary Pokémon, Entei.

So, does this mean we should expect a rerelease, or perhaps a Let's Go-style game with the HeartGold and SoulSilver branding? We'd argue probably not.

While the trademarks are bound to set tongues wagging across the internet, the reality is that most trademarks tend to expire after ten years. Pokémon HeartGold And SoulSilver launched in 2009/2010 depending on your region, so it's very possible that these new applications are simply renewing existing trademarks.

That's not to say that something isn't in the works, but it might be best to rein in any remake dreams. Still, we definitely wouldn't mind if that were to be the case – HeartGold and SoulSilver ranks very, very well in our list of the Best Pokémon Games Of All Time.
