Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For February And March 2020

sweth_t

It's looking like it's time for me to break the promise I made to myself about not buying games until I beat more of the ones I already own. Really eyeing Darksiders Genesis (and also Darksiders II). I own the first on Switch and I'm gonna play it once I finally achieve 100% completion on Smash Ultimate (so close, less than 10% left on a NG+ WoL run, and beating every century and all-star smash with every character), but man I wish they'd bring Darksiders III to Switch. Also Animal Crossing is a day 1 buy for me, absolutely cannot wait for it.

Re: Poll: Four Dragon Quest Games Are Out Today On Switch, Which Are You Getting?

@Torn Its so strange they released DQ11, an outstanding port of a PS4 game, and yet DQ 1, 2, and 3 are all super mediocre if not bad. Really shows they didn't care about the old games, and only released them for a quick buck. Sucks that they've desecrated them that way, guess I'll emulate the first three then, which is my least preferred method to play games.

Re: Enchanted Portals Is A Cuphead-Style Co-Op Game Eyeing Up A Release On Switch

sweth_t

Like many here, normally I'm down for a game inspired by other more popular games (see: Oceanhorn, Ittle Dew 2) but this is riding a fine, fine line between inspiration and plagiarism. The animations are a little too close for comfort, and it's rather obvious the animation was not done in the traditional style like Cuphead. This was obviously done in Flash/Animate, with keyframes rather than frame by frame. It looks good, but I would rather they develop a game with its own style rather than trying to riff of Cuphead. But if it turns out to be solid, I'll eat my words. But somehow I don't see that happening.

Re: Poll: Four Dragon Quest Games Are Out Today On Switch, Which Are You Getting?

sweth_t

@Torn It's not the frame rate problems or anything that bothers me, though those are certainly rather large issues. It's the graphics. The art style clashes so hard. The map looks like a SNES map, but the Hero has a crappy looking "high-res" sprite, and the enemies look hand-drawn. If it stuck to one of those, than it would be fine. And the fact it has frame skips at all means it is terribly optimized for Switch. So if it gets patches to fix the frame rate issues and the way it looks, then maybe I'll consider it, given that it's a lot more money efficient, but I'll be waiting a bit before it gets to that.

Re: Poll: Four Dragon Quest Games Are Out Today On Switch, Which Are You Getting?

I thought about picking up the classics, but reading through these comments about how awful the ports are, I might just pick up the GBC ports of these later. It's gonna cost way more money, but I'd rather pay more money for better versions of these games than $5-$10 for crappy mobile ports. They don't look that great either, I'll just stick to my GBA SP and its weird front light, thank you very much. Probably won't play DQ11 anytime soon, like I have time for that.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 7th)

The road to SSBU 100% completion just never ends. I keep getting distracted from it, but if I have time in between homework and a terrifying AP Chemistry test approaching, I might grind a few more spirits. Besides that, might continue playthrough #3 of BotW is my endless quest to 100% all the games I own, a task that is far harder than it seems.

Re: SNK's Samurai Shodown Reboot Scores December Switch Release Date In Japan

sweth_t

This series has always looked really appealing to me. I've been watching a lot of fighting game videos lately, and games like Street Fighter, Tekken, SoulCaliber, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, Marvel vs. Capcom, to name a few, all look like a lot of fun. Anyone got any suggestions for which games to play first? I know most of the games are available via ACA NeoGeo, it's mostly just a matter of Switch vs PS4, as I prefer to have all the games of one series on one system/system series. (e.g., I own every Devil May Cry game on PS4, I have every Dark Souls game on PS4, etc.)
Edit: I don't have much interest in competitive play, I just enjoy playing them as something for me to get good at, for the single player if they have them, and the occasional online match.

Re: Start Your Engines When Mario Kart Tour Launches On 25th September

sweth_t

@1UP_MARIO God, I forget how old MK8 really is. We really need a new Mario Kart, I get there's usually only one per console, but MK8D hardly stands as a new Mario Kart game. I'll play MK Tour, but I don't play games on my phone often despite how many I have downloaded, so it's likely to get shelved quickly.

Re: Get Ready To Eat Some Dirt When The Second Trials Rising Expansion Arrives Next Month

sweth_t

Oh man, I forgot this game was a thing. Was this game good? I bought the knock-off version of this, Urban Trial Playground, but it feels really shallow with its physics and the graphics are not too pleasant to look at, so I've been eyeing the Trials series to scratch my 2D motorcycle platformer itch (an oddly specific one, but the Trials series just looks like fun). Though it's good to see Ubisoft still supporting this one, I love it when DLC is released this late after a game launches.

Re: "Cute-As-Heck" 3D Platformer A Hat In Time Comes To Switch This October

sweth_t

AHHH I just bought the PS4 version for $15 because it was on sale and I didn't want to wait anymore for the Switch version. I was planning on playing it in the coming time, and I probably still will, but now I want this one too because the Switch is made for platformers and also it's physical. I should've waited to spend my money, but I'm glad it'll be on Switch in a few months.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #3 - Resident Evil 4

sweth_t

I'm a sucker for simplistic and artistic box art, so the clear winner for me was the PAL versions. It would've been a slightly harder choice between the three if it weren't for the Japanese and North American covers using a white outer glow, completely decimating any sense of artistry. Leon looks like he was just slapped onto the covers of those boxes, and it frankly doesn't look that great. Though the NA Wii box art doesn't look all that bad, that's actually the version I own.

Re: Video: The "Impossible" Ports That Shouldn't Exist On Nintendo Switch

sweth_t

I've genuinely been debating getting DOOM on my Switch for so long. I have it on PS4, and I'll finish it one day on that, but I don't use my PS4 nearly as often as my Switch, and despite how DOOM runs on Switch, to me, it seems tailor made for that system. As Arlo said, It's the most Nintendo-like non-Nintendo made game on the Switch. (That's not precisely what he said, but it was along those lines). I also remember his great quote, "Graphics are great and all, but so is playing DOOM in bed."

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th August (North America)

sweth_t

I've already got a massive backlog as it is. Still plugging away at that (unsuccessfully I might add, I've dubbed my issue "the 20 hour curse", get 20 hours deep in a game, and moronically stop playing). Currently getting back to 100% completing Team Sonic Racing, and I can wholeheartedly say that is not a good idea, the ring and daredevil challenges are testing my patience and degrading my sanity.

Re: Samurai Shodown Director Says A Perfectly Balanced Fighting Game Would Be Boring

sweth_t

That makes sense. I mean, flat balance is boring, and so is wild imbalance, so striking a nice middle ground is the way to go. Just cater to different play styles and don't make anyone too over or under-powered, and you're good. Regardless, I hope this game runs well on Switch and also doesn't look terrible. 60 FPS but also preferably not aliased 480p, hopefully it's optimized well.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Team Yell Sound Like A Total Nightmare, In The Best Way Possible

sweth_t

They look neat, I guess. No team honestly beats Team Skull for me though. They were the perfect mix of cool and slightly intimidating, but also over the top and silly and they made the perfect team. They weren't a billion dollar organization who wants to disrupt space and time (that was the Aether Foundation), just a gang of people who cause trouble because they can. I'm not too keen on the name "Team Yell", but I guess it's a British thing so it's fine.

Re: Krome Studios Launches Kickstarter For A Switch Version Of TY The Tasmanian Tiger

sweth_t

Woah, this is actually really neat. I love 3D platformers, and I wish I could play more of them but my backlog is pretty big, but I do have a soft spot for PS2/Gamecube era games. I'm genuinely tempted to back this, for the sake of supporting something cool. I can't imagine this being a hard port, so maybe I'll bite the bullet and throw Krome Studios $20 of my money.

Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO

sweth_t

EA lost everyone's trust and goodwill years ago. Their Switch games don't sell because they're half-assed, watered-down versions of their already microtransaction filled garbage on other systems. Their other games on PS4, Xbox One, and PC don't sell because they're half finished games filled with microtransactions. EA, if you just made a half decent game, with no microtransactions, no roadmap BS, no grind, and no lootboxes. Just a normal and complete game, may it would sell. But of course it wouldn't make the money that FIFA and Madden do, so they'll never do that. I mourn for all the good EA franchises that we'll never get more good games of. Command & Conquer, Burnout, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Need for Speed, and Skate, to name a few.

Re: Crash Team Racing Will Soon Allow Players To Buy Wumpa Coins With Real Money

sweth_t

Because of course they are. Activision and their shoddy reasoning of "it's all so the player has more options". It's just like how it was with COD: Modern Warfare Remastered. Never played it, but I know they added microtransactions to a re-release of an older game. I've heard the remaster of CTR is good. It looks good, plays well, and serves as a nice update to the original. But damn, adding microtransactions to your cool remaster makes it that much worse. It's wholly unnecessary, and they say it's a "fast-track" also known as "our game is really grindy because we made it that way so just give us money instead of playing our game". I feel for the developers, I'd like to think that they didn't want this, I hope they didn't. Screw you, Activision.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 25th)

sweth_t

Might get in a little Resident Evil 4 (the best version, on the Wii), along with more Tetris 99. Just started God of War (on PS4) so I'll try and get through that. This weekend is probably the first weekend I haven't had any homework in months, so I'm definitely going to be busy with my games all weekend.
