After a few tournaments, this week Nintendo is returning to its regular spirit event schedule in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch. This latest one is being referred to as "Change Your Fate!" and starts this Friday, on 30th August.
Here's a description of the three-day event, courtesy of the Nintendo Australia Twitter account:
Win any battle on the Spirit Board during this event and you'll receive a Shuffle All item, plus triple the usual Spirit Points!
In terms of the spirits, there are many notable characters such as Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow Mario from Super Mario Sunshine, Manaphy the Pokémon and Rover from Animal Crossing.
Will you be participating in this event? Are you still playing Smash Bros. Ultimate on a regular basis? Leave a comment below.

Wow, I'm actually really excited for this one. I'm short on those as I want to finish 100% of the spirit battles, and this gives me time to stock up! Bring it on!
Another excuse for me to jump in and start grinding out Spirit battles for that 100% completion that's been in the making for 8 months now. Guess I'm playing Smash this weekend, since its a 3 day weekend for me.
Hey, that's actually a good one. I've also been wanting to 100% all spirit battles. Even now I still find some pesky little spirit that doesn't have "Clear" on their preview page
@Lizuka odds on Edelgard being one of the DLC fighters and 3 Houses spirits coming along then?
@gaga64 Yes to 3 Houses spirits, but I'd bet against a Fire Emblem DLC character because Nintendo picks them this time around (Sakurai only has a veto pen). Fire Emblem is pretty niche.
@gaga64
Might as well call it Fire Emblem Bros. if they do that.
I'd rather change the amount of spirits I've yet to earn, but that's probably going to sit at 0 forever outside of DLC releases.
@Euler it may not be top tier, but the franchise has been steadily growing and spreading, FEH is their most successful mobile game so far, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they want a little extra cross-promotion with Smash, even if it does face backlash for overloading the FE reps. People will moan about yet another FE fighter, but it won’t stop them buying them, or especially if Sakurai can find a way to make this one more unique, like Robin or Corrin. And it does neatly explain the lack of 3H spirits.
That’s where my bets lie, closely followed by a Gen 8 Pokémon, an updated version of Sylux to tie into Prime 4 (he’s oddly missing from the Metroid spirits), Crash or Spyro.
Or just to troll everyone, Yooka-Laylee as an Echo of Banjo-Kazooie...
@Franklin I'll never get behind this FE overrepresentation meme. There are just as many Pokemon in the game and even more characters from the Mario univserse yet FE constantly gets called out on.
Seems like a good way to grind some spirit points
@Tulio517 I've been doing the same thing too. Cool.
@MajinSoul
Mario and Pokemon are 2 of Nintendo's biggest franchises.
Possibly the 2 biggest. Could perhaps argue for Zelda.
Moreover, most of the Fire Emblem characters look and play pretty much the same.
@Franklin None of the of new characters look or play like the old ones though. There isn't a single blue-haired Lord in Three Houses. The House Leaders don't even use swords.
@NIN10DOXD
Are you sure it's Fire Emblem?
Once I confused a bit of fluff for a cat, so it's easily done.
@Franklin I mean, it's called Fire Emblem Three Houses. So it is a Fire Emblem game.
@NIN10DOXD
Odd name for a cat.
I just got the Fighter Pass and that’s a welcoming opportunity to play Spirit Board for a while. Nice!
When does Tockles release, though? That's what I wanna know.
@NIN10DOXD Byleth would play similarly to at least 1 of the previous characters and the player character has been picked twice (Robin, Corrin). Though I do see Edelgard as more likely if the fighters pass was to include any 1st party characters (do think it'll be just 3rd party characters so no Fire Emblem though).
@MajinSoul Pokémon and Mario are E ticket franchises, and most Fire Emblem characters are one-hit wonders.
@Franklin I'd argue that Zelda's more popular than Pokemon considering the recent controversy surrounding Sword and Shield.
i got a bright idea, put me as a spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't have a switch, so i cant play the game. (I'm begging the lab boys to get me on (if they don't get me one (THEIR FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!))).
Triple SP will do just nicely. Collecting spirits is kind of like Pokémon, you gotta catch em all.
@TheAwesomeBowser Sales figures are what matter at the end of the day, not Internet controversies. Remember that everyone made fun of the Wii's name when it was first revealed, and there was the exact same controversy when Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out (lack of backward compatibility, and the first 251 Pokemon weren't all available at first). They still sold extremely well (16.8 million cartridges), albeit not as well as previous games in the series.
