We've just been treated to a lovely dollop of new information on Pokémon Sword and Shield - what do you mean 'you haven't seen it'? Go and watch it now!
The very end of the new trailer was dedicated to the game's antagonists, Team Yell. Just like Team Rocket, Team Magma/Aqua, Team Galactic, and others before them, Team Yell look set to play an important role in your journey, but they sound like they'll be quite the nuisance.
An official description of the team has now been shared by The Pokémon Company. As you can see, Team Yell will attempt to ruin your battles, ruin your attempts at taking on Gyms, and even break down the region's transportation. They sound like a complete nightmare, but it also sounds like it'll be all the more fun to beat them.
Team Yell is a group of troublemakers who seem to appear wherever the Gym Challenge takes you and who attempt to get in your way at every opportunity.
They want nothing more than for Marnie to become Champion, and they all try to obstruct other challengers in all sorts of ways. They will take over hotel lobbies, prevent other challengers from accessing transportation, and even shout and distract opponents during battle. Whenever Marnie battles, it seems these Team Yell Grunts are quick to appear, showing their support with Marnie-print towels and also horns.
So, a loud, super-dedicated fanbase that wants nothing more than to butt in, cause mayhem, and have their voices heard at any given opportunity? We wonder where the inspiration for that came from?
Make sure to check out our round-up of all the new announcements (including that Galarian Weezing!) and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Is it me, or in every generation does the team seem to be even stupider than the previous?
Huh. This sounds pretty cool.
Yeah, this will end well for you given how people love to see snark recently.
Not a fan of the name at all, but I do think, if implemented right, they could be quite funny.
I think this is actually a pretty interesting concept. It will certainly make the journey feel more like a competition! I wonder if the player character will be able to get their own fan club!
@Lucarianzx Is it stupid because they aren't some world-ending organization? How many of those have we had?
We can stand a few generations of loons and troublemakers who don't have the power to screw the planet over.
I like how there are 4 of them and it's clearly just 2 models copy and pasted. 2 sets of identical twins!
If they're written nearly as well as Team Skull, I'm fine with them. IMO the only team who was a complete letdown was Team Flare.
Time for the thicc gang to rise
#TeamThicc
I hope they have a little fun with this team. I liked team skull in sun/moon.
These guys are totally the obsessive sports fans galar forme of team skull and damnit I'm here for it XD
@Lucarianzx I don't know, I think Team Skull was cool for what it was, a low level gang who were initially just petty, pathetic washouts. Guzma was legit, and Plumeria was cool, especially with how they were tied with the Aether Foundation. I suspect there will be a similar situation here.
@justin233 These Teams may cause trouble, but darn it if they aren't good at finding doppelgangers XD I'm surprised no one's ever commented on that before, even if you assume they all wear wigs, which is apparently standard uniform in these groups.
So the antagonistic team for the pokemon region seemingly inspired by the UK are basically outrageous obnoxious football hooligans with no consideration for others outside their small circle? Eh, given the trainwreck our country has been for the last few years I'm not surprised!
@Nuclearpineapple Team Yob would have been a better name.
Game freak breaking the 4th wall.
The concept is cool. The name could be better, lol
Ah, Team Yell, the video game representation of every 'waifu's' fan base
Got to say, for some reason I wasn't quite feeling the trailer as a whole, but things are clicking with me faster than usual. The regional variants is a great concept I'm happy to keep around, the rivals look cool, and these guys... felt off, but I'm starting to like the idea of a rabid fanbase causing trouble for you in a desperate attempt to support their idol XD The punk rock aesthetic and bright pink feels a bit odd considering Marnie's goth look and subdued colors and mannerisms, but I think it'll grow on me.
Fans Before Sun and Moon: BOO Team Skull is so stupid, god they suck.
Fans After Sun and Moon: WOOO Team Skull is top tier Pokemon enemy team. God, I love them.
Moral of the story is don't judge before you get to know em.
Finally an enemy team with a cause I can understand! XD
Go Marnie! Go Marnie!
Wait...What do you mean that as the player I'm supposed to beat Marnie and become the champion?!
Can't I join team Yell instead?...
I like this new concept of Team Yell. Instead of destroying or altering the world, being completely evil, or being random arm-flailing thugs, these guys actually have a purpose. I'm excited to see if Marnie turns out to be their team leader or beats Champion Leon.
They look cool, but remember when we actually had major criminal organisations that wanted to take over the world? These guys aren't really on the same level
Clearly these Japanese Devs have never seen a Chav.
Since this region is based on Britain I was expecting a team with Sports Direct string bags and cans of Special Brew to be the antagonistic team 😝
@spideyroxas Team Yell Grunt used Frosty Jack’s!
I really like these guys. Just like Team Skull before them, they have a simple and fun concept. Better than those organizations they felt more like a crazy cult.
The Pokemon Company trolling the vocal fan base! Like it!
They should be complaining about the fact all the previous enemy teams aren't in this game.....
Really Team Yell!?
what do they do, yell at you. xD I think l would call them team Skull 2.0
@Lucarianzx I actually think it's a nice change of pace from the typical "we're going to take over the world with the help of this OP legendary Pokemon" teams we got for the last 6 gens. Actually, I think the entire idea of this team can be ingenious if pulled off correctly.
@Majinsoul, I'm not against it, I just hope the overall story isn't really hurt by it. Yeah the whole take over the world does get quite stale after a while.
Team Yell looks like an emo band. They look like My Chemical Romance or a really edgy version of Fall Out Boy.
Interesting.
I guess my only complain from the pokemon games is that all NPCs look the same on their class.
Would be interesting to make some more templates, so you have like 4 or more variations from one trainer class.
Again just two designs for ALL the grunts. How hard is it to hire some outsiders to make a few more designs. Sword and Shield makes me wonder if Gamefreak even enjoys making Pokémon games anymore.
Can we not just have a team that was actually good like Team Plasma?
@Edelgard @Gridatttack Unfortunately, Pokemon tends to leave that kind of stuff for the anime to handle. Just look at Sun/Moon, where all the captain's families were generic NPCs in the games, yet they gave them unique designs and personalities in the anime. Even the Team Skull grunts had unique designs.
Most trainer classes were still generic NPCs, unless they were someone that was part of an episode's plot or important to the overall story.
"So, a loud, super-dedicated fanbase that wants nothing more than to butt in, cause mayhem, and have their voices heard at any given opportunity? We wonder where the inspiration for that came from?"
Yeah yeah just pour gas on it
@Lucarianzx
Yeah they seem to be going for goofier teams in recent gens. I don’t know if it’s because the series keeps pandering more and more to kids each gen or what..
What's up with his Zigzagoon? it looks different than a normal or shinny Zigzagoon. It appears to be black & white rather than the traditional brown. Does that mean we will have Galar specific regional Pokemon like we did with Alola?
Edit : Looks like they are! I loved this in Sun & Moon and US & UM so this has me rather hyped!
@Wexter Yup! A few were announced earlier today 🙂
@ryancraddock This is awesome news! Can't wait to see my old favorites with new looks again!
I love how they basically made Team Skull again. Guzma's my favorite team leader so far.
@YourGoodFriendly I totally agree. Legitimate criticism is not "causing mayhem". The article writer shouldn't have said that. It shows bias, is obnoxious, and is a lie.
they look like KISS fans they members of the KISS Army
@Anti-Matter Ehy do characters (antagonist or hero) need to be muscular or pretty and slender if female? I guess that's what hollywood has done to the last few generations...
@MegaVel91 LOL, so true! In fact, it's probably made to slip us up. To make us think they really can't do anything, then... Bam! Marnie catches a Legendary and she's the final Challenger on the Elite Four. That being said, it's refreshing to see non-world (demolishing, liberating, altering, thefts, etc.) bad-guys.
@SpicyBurrito16 I was going to write an ironic reply about chavs in reply to an earlier comment by someone and how they generalise emos to anyone who wears black and has a non standard hair cut but hey, I guess you showed that for me.
These hooligans should be called Team Asbo
Im afraid this game is going to be hella easy...
GameFreak, what tha heck is this
Can they make this any more blatantly British? I can't wait for the future "ocka" down under Pokemon edition...
They're meant to be punks, not sure where this football hooligan idea in this thread is coming from. Punk music is massively associated with the UK. Football hooligans dress like chavs (as that's what they are) not classic punk rockers. The name also suggests Rebel Yell, as in the famous Billy Idol record, not the whisky.
They honestly look awful.
They look neat, I guess. No team honestly beats Team Skull for me though. They were the perfect mix of cool and slightly intimidating, but also over the top and silly and they made the perfect team. They weren't a billion dollar organization who wants to disrupt space and time (that was the Aether Foundation), just a gang of people who cause trouble because they can. I'm not too keen on the name "Team Yell", but I guess it's a British thing so it's fine.
I hope this is like Team Skull, where these guys are mostly a joke and there is a real bad guy team somewhere else in the region.
Because you're right, these guys just sound like a nuisance. Not like antagonists. I was really hoping to see a return to a Team Rocket style of bad guys, just old school thieves and crooks.
@Heavyarms55 Calling it. The current champ and his sponsor are the real villains.
@MegaVel91 Honestly, I would be super down for that. We've never had an evil champ. (I wouldn't count N as a villain or even an antagonist.) But we did have Giovanni as a gym leader back in gen 1. Although everyone knows now, that was a cool twist back in the day.
I like what I’m seeing about this new team 😁
@Dev893
>Don't see any girls.
>Girls are literally right there in the trailer, visible.
What.
