Played some of the demo on PS5 (because game key cards) and not only is the writing and voice acting awful but even on PS5, the game looks far uglier than the first two did on Switch. Those were some of my favorite games... handing this over to a different developer was a catastrophe. What a disappointment.
I upgraded from a Switch OLED and I have a good OLED TV, and to me the screen looks pretty bad. I don't understand why they claim that screen supports HDR, it is not visible at all. I mostly just play docked and I don't see that changing.
I would never buy an SD card from Amazon again. They are knowingly and happily selling counterfeit cards (it's a 64GB card that says it's 1TB and has faked SanDisk packaging and everything) and even letting the fakes pay to have their cards featured. The cards will report to your device that they're 1TB or higher, write speeds are pressed way down, and the only way to find out if they're a fake is to run a lengthy test using special software to test the read and write of every bit of the card. Don't risk it.
I love Limited Run, and am still annoyed with Ubisoft for not being willing to make their own release. On the other hand, I get it, because almost nobody bought Beyond Good and Evil the first time around, twenty years ago, despite the deserved critical acclaim. I'm glad we have companies like LRG to make physical releases of games that otherwise would have been stuck just digital.
I have BG&E on GC, PS2, and Xbox, as well as Steam. Really looking forward to playing through the new release on Switch.
I'm seriously confused by the comments about the pricing being high. These seem comparable to typical LEGO sets when compared by number of pieces to me. They're actually cheaper than I expected. And looking at reviews (ie Polygon) there's a ton of fun fine detail here for AC fans.
I ordered the Kapp'n set and am looking forward to building it with my favorite six year old.
This has never happened to me with any game, but I've heard of it happening now and again to some people. I don't believe it's a scam, though. I think it's a manufacturing error. Someone I know bought a PS3 game and it was clearly factory sealed and brand new, but there was no disc inside. When he contacted EA (the publisher) they didn't even blink. It's just "something that happens."
Got my physical game from Play-Asia yesterday and already more than six hours into Final Fantasy II. Loving it and definitely recommend people import sooner rather than later. SE could take it out of print at any time, and probably will since they're selling it digitally for the same price as physical.
Awful lot of commenters complaining this article exists instead of just not clicking on it. If you don't care that games are vanishing into thin air permanently, and your only argument is you didn't want them anyway or they weren't making anyone any money, you're part of the problem. That attitude is exactly why this is happening.
We're in a troubling age here where digital storefronts are closing and these are not just products being lost. This is art, and it is history, and it is disappearing as a result.
Famous movies, music, books, and more throughout history have been lost to time because nobody preserved them. The same thing is happening to games today, despite piracy saving a lot of it. Preservation matters, not just for retro game compilations and ports to new platforms. This is part of human culture.
I'm relieved they're doing this, because every time the Dreamlight Valley account tweets, they get a barrage of replies complaining that the stall doesn't sell limitless coal anymore. Finally they can focus on complaining about how they time traveled and it broke their game instead.
I've never run out of coal and have so much of it stockpiled that I sometimes even sell it when I get some. I've cooked every recipe in the game at least once and many of them more than that. I have more money and dreamlight than I know what to do with and all the characters are unlocked. It's interesting how differently everyone plays this game.
Bought it at launch as a DQ superfan, rolled credits on this game a few days ago. AMA.
Pros: the game lets you manually save anywhere in the menu. You can also save by resting at a campfire.
Cons: until you learn to manually save after every treasure you pick up, and before entering a treasure dungeon, you'll lose progress with every death.
Major cons: a key mechanic of the game, the treasure detector, does not work as expected. Sometimes it doesn't see treasure that is nearby, sometimes it straight up tells you there's none when you're standing on top of one.
Oof. I was close to importing this physical but stayed on the fence because of how rough early footage was. I still have my original copy and play it on my PS3. That and the fan translation of RD will have to do.
I've been hooked on Animal Crossing for twenty years and the key piece for me that places it so far above the games people compare it to like Stardew Valley is the clock. I put about a hundred hours into Stardew Valley before stopping because I felt 1/ there was nothing left worth doing and 2/ the clock runs so fast I had to keep stopping gameplay to sleep or be punished for it. This, in a game where if you don't tend your crops or relationships they fall apart and the game gets harder. Animal Crossing is so much less stressful. Which is why I have more than 1500 hours into New Horizons.
Tip: don't let your pockets fill up. If they're full when you bring up your first scallop of the day, Pascal won't appear, even if you drop something to get the scallop.
They fixed the audio glitch in the first Castlevania, but they didn't fix the display option that's supposed to fill the screen but doesn't. So still no 4:3 without scanlines option.
There is button mapping in the menu for each game that didn't let you do it within the game, but there's still only one save state per game.
They added the Japanese versions of the games, but not all the games, only seven of them. The Japanese version of Simon's Quest was omitted for some reason.
Glad to have patches. Hoping the next one finishes the job.
Gonna pile on here in defense of Simon's Quest, which was the breakout hit the series needed to become a legend. The "bad translation" bit is a myth. The translation is fine, the villagers intentionally misdirect you in the Japanese version as well. The "you now prossess Dracula's rib" typos and such are a bummer but not serious.
This collection has issues. There's no 4:3 screen filling option without scanlines, as you say. And the 16:9 option is ridiculously stretched and ugly. The frames are nice though, so the default is usually fine.
I do miss the omission of Legends and Dracula X, and am eager for the first patch that adds the Japanese versions in, because they're generally all superior. Maybe Dracula X being missing means it will accompany the rest of the Dracula X games on the second collection. Even Legends might fit there due to it being a SotN contemporary...
There's an audio bug in this collection. I hear it so far in Castlevania, a persistent random beeping noise. It's really irritating and distracting.
@dleec8 it just came out this week that people who owned certain movies digitally on the apple store have lost those movies because apple removed them. This happens all the time on all the digital game stores as well, including the eShop. If it's not in a box, on your shelf, you don't own it, and the platform holder can take it away any time they wish.
Cautiously optimistic. Huge fan of the first Langrisser (which I played as Warsong on the Genesis) and I still have my original copy, making it the game in my collection I've owned the longest! I imported Langrisser II and its SNES remake Der Langrisser and played those with fan translations, but never to completion.
Same style of game as Fire Emblem, so here's hoping they implement lots of the quality of life improvements that series has seen over the years.
I'm also hoping these are done better than that crap 3DS game! Can I ask for the original games to be included with the remakes? Or is that too much?
Was relieved on checking that mine isn't damaged in this way. Though mine was one of the ones with scratches from the dock early on. Sad to hear of those who aren't so lucky and glad to see the percentage so low on the poll.
This game is ridiculous fun in multiplayer, especially 4 player couch co-op. I play on ps4 and steam. The enemy character sound effects are laugh out loud funny and the destructible environments create a lot of excitement. I love how it doesn't take itself seriously at all.
I have played this a bit on mobile where it's free with ads. It's a lot of fun and really cute. I'm curious what, if anything, they've added for the switch version.
I'd be there for a compilation, no question. How cool would it be if they put the original Dig on there as well? I know Image & Form was talking about bringing more games over, and this would make it an amazing value.
After hundreds of hours in this game I thought I'd seen everything. Today I was wandering and engaged a lynel who teleported, complete with a specific visual effect. I had no idea this was in the game. I was so shocked I forgot I could capture a video. I hope I see it again.
The giant LA Noire data took just over an hour to download on a wired connection yesterday. I wouldn't have wanted to do that over wifi. Like others here, I fully recommend the tiny investment in a USB ethernet adapter for your docked switch.
Amazon cut the price on this to twenty bucks in the US the other day, weeks before launch. It's a much better deal. It's still at that price, if anyone wants it. Cheaper even than the prime deal. Too bad they don't stack like they do at best buy.
"On the top of the unit there's the power switch and what looks like a MicroSD card slot, which hints at the tantalising ability to load up your own games. Unfortunately, the slot doesn't do anything, so we can save you the bother of attempting to insert a card. We already did that, and were dismayed to find that it simply dropped inside the BittBoy, forcing us to open up the unit in order to retrieve it. When we did we found no MicroSD card mechanism on the inside - just fresh air."
Wanted to give it a try despite not finding it appealing enough to preorder and the test punch was perfect for that. I found it was pretty much exactly what I expected. I'll pass.
So torn on this. I'd like to get this, but I find myself less and less interested in gaming on 3ds. Lately all I've been doing on there is virtual console stuff I never got around to finishing and once VC launches on switch I may not do that anymore. It's getting harder and harder to look at those little low resolution screens.
I like that they're going straight for a physical release off the bat. The language in the press release doesn't make it completely clear whether the game will only ever be available physically directly from the publisher or not but just in case I preordered. I expect I can always cancel. SE charges such exorbitant shipping prices.
As to the game itself, the "development footage" disclaimer is telling. The game is still about half a year from completion so I imagine it will still change a bit. I like the music better than what we got in Setsuna. I see the angry penguins are back!
Looking forward to playing it, and so surprised and pleased to see more from this developer!
I've gotten worse at timing the perfect guard laser beam deflection over time. It varies based on how far you are from the Guardian and even whether my system is docked! Since it's become so unreliable, I instead opt to get as close as I can and start lopping off legs.

Freezes them longer than stasis, but they break free when you hit them again. It gives breathing room and even pauses their final beam charge up so you can close that distance safely.
Man those fights were tough before I started using ice arrows.
Read about this online and checked mine. Yep, it's warped, ever so slightly. And I'm an old guy who's been super careful with mine. I suspect many switches are warped and people just haven't noticed yet.
I guess I'll just have to limit my docked play time a bit to reduce the heat until they replace our docks or something.
I'm going to assume they'll ask for forty bucks for this game yet again, which means it will tank on yet another platform. I bought it during a steam sale and I like it, but the more I think about double dipping on it without a physical copy, the less I want it.

Ugh. Well, on the bright side, it will probably be almost impossible to find a week after launch, which means if it sucks we can always flip our barely used copies at a profit.
SoulCalibur II was so much fun. To date, the only Cube game I've seen that can run in widescreen. Still looks great on a Wii using component cables today. I have SC 1 through 5 on all platforms and that one is still the one I enjoyed the most.
I love this game and I've played through it so many times. I have it on Cube and Wii. I prefer the Wii controls but I wish the Wii version had an option to use a GameCube controller for when I'm in the mood for that. I never understood why they ported and reworked games like this and Metroid Prime and removed control options completely.
I'm a Metroid fan and the early content Nintendo shared made me hold out for the reviews before ordering the game. If amazon didn't offer such a generous early buy discount I may have waited longer, but these days Nintendo makes such short runs of these games, then the prices spike. I don't want to end up having to spend even more in a few months.
Still, I worry about what my experience may be, as I expect to do this single player. I barely touched Triforce Heroes. We'll see what happens.
I will continue to avoid eShop purchases until Nintendo introduces an account system that functions like Sony's. EShop is more expensive, slower, and far more restrictive to the consumer. They're doing it very, very wrong.
