Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

spiderman0616

I am absolutely loving all the sour grapes and people just being flat out purposefully obtuse in this thread. Some of you must have lost a bet or something!

But seriously, not to say you have to love everything Nintendo does, but some of you seem to flat out dislike when they succeed. If you fall in that category, I would suggest maybe......don't read sites like this? I mean, for the last 7 or 8 years, and what's looking like probably the next 7 or 8 years, Nintendo is on a tear. And rightfully so. I think it's their turn again. If that bothers you, you're probably preaching at the wrong crowd here.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Donkey Kong Bananza

@YoshiTails I think the environments of each planet were very resource-locked due to the Switch 1 being pretty low powered even at launch. That being said, I agree with you here.

The sparse environments were an original barrier to why I didn't want to play Odyssey or buy a Switch. I saw my kids playing it on theirs and my reaction to it was "Meh....seems like you just run around in lots of big open fields"

Later on, when I had my own Switch, I gave it an honest try and it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. Got 999 moons and everything. I went down roughly the same path with Breath of the Wild.

I think on Switch 2 a game like this is going to hit a lot different than those. At least I hope, because DK is my favorite franchise.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

spiderman0616

@electrolite77 These kinds of articles pay the bills, unfortunately. Sad but true. I'd wager 99.99% of gamers don't want to bust open their controllers, and in my experience the batteries on these things last the life of the console and more. We have three in my house that are about the age of the Switch 1 right now and they're all still doing amazing.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

My first gen Pro Controller is still going strong--have had it for years and years and never had an issue--gifted it to my son along with my gen 1 Switch when I got the Pro Controller 2 and now I kind of worry about its wellbeing sometimes.

My original Switch joy-cons had one or two drift issues over the years, but my Switch OLED ones never had an issue at all and they were heavily used. In that time period, all of my other controllers have broken including my DualSense and my Backbone One, and they weren't getting nearly as much use.

My point: Shockingly, over the years, even with the drift issues, my Nintendo stuff has been the MOST reliable.

Re: 18 Months And $200,000 Later, Modder Gives Switch Lite OLED And HDMI-Out - And A Switch 2 OLED Mod Is Next

spiderman0616

Seeing this makes me realize how cool a dockable Switch Lite would have been. Holding out hope for Switch Lite 2, but I'm thinking Nintendo probably doesn't want that eating too much into Switch 2 sales. Maybe if they upgrade the Switch 2 to OLED eventually and keep it the same price as it is now--plenty would opt for the full size over the LIte in that situation, I'd think.

EDIT: Of course, they'd have to sell all the extra controllers and dock separately in order to maintain the core appeal of the Lite in the first place, which is a risky move.

Re: Microsoft Announces Second Wave Of Layoffs, Over 9,000 Jobs Affected

spiderman0616

@OorWullie That's true, and I've never been able to find reliable information on if it even really helps developers or not. How does a small, first time developer like Sandfall recoop their investment on a game like Clair Obscur unless MS is paying them big bucks to have it available?

I'm just uncomfortable with the whole state of the industrty right now. Love to see Nintendo doing well with Switch 2, do not love seeing MS and Sony appear to be a little lost with their strategy and release schedule. They both need to reinvent their brand and it needs to happen ASAP. Nintendo has stayed in the game this long because when they try things that aren't working they know how to pivot to something that does work.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart World Speeds Past 1 Million Physical Sales

spiderman0616

@SuperBro64 Ignore "all the backlash". It's a storm in a teacup and just seems worse because it's always in the comments sections.

I for one am LOVING this game, despite the price hike. They obviously have big plans for updates to this over the lifespan of the Switch 2--not sure how people aren't seeing that.

People just love to whine. Pay it no heed.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Cases To Carry And Protect Your Console

spiderman0616

I can tell you all that I absentmindedly launched my Switch 2 off the side of my bed while unpacking the other day. It was in the official Nintendo brand case and suffered no damage whatsoever even though it kind of whacked into my dresser on its way down. Nice bonus: The case ITSELF suffered no damage either. Still looks new!

Re: PSA: Spigen's Switch 2 Carry Case May Have A Potentially Console-Damaging Defect

spiderman0616

@Bucksaur Yep. I can't stand obvious design oversights like this. And then they blame it on the user having a screen protector, something that even Nintendo suggests you use. (Heck, in their own official case they even GIVE YOU one!)

I have been burned so many times by accessory companies in this same way, so in the last few years I have stopped buying anything but first party accessories unless they're really terrible. You always pay more for first party stuff, but at least you can rest a little easier that it was designed to fit well.

Re: Poll: Has Your Switch 2's Screen Got Any Nasty Scratches Yet?

spiderman0616

CanNOT deal with scratches on any of my device screens. I put an AmFilm on my Switches the second they come out of the box. When it comes to a mobile device like this that also is designed to be docked the way it is, scratches are inevitable. I'd rather they happen on a $10 piece of tempered glass than my Switch 2 that would be impossible to replace right now.

Re: As Switch 2 Breaks Records Worldwide, Sony Reminds Us That PS5 Still Exists

spiderman0616

@Mesozoic_Masquerade I've found with the rise of cloud gaming that I can even cut the physical PC out most of the time. I access Steam and Gamepass through GeForce NOW, both of which run on my phone with my Backbone controller, and natively on my TV which I can play with my Nintendo controllers.

So if I'm going on a trip, it's pretty great to know that if I have my Switch 2 and my Backbone, I'm set for whatever game I feel like. What a time to be alive!

Re: As Switch 2 Breaks Records Worldwide, Sony Reminds Us That PS5 Still Exists

spiderman0616

I have been wondering lately if it’s just me or if it feels like Sony is a little off. They have released nothing this gen to prompt me to buy a PS5, which is still crazy for me to think about, as I’ve spent a lot of money on their hardware and software over the years.

But I really think the general Switch concept has disrupted this entire industry, an industry that still seems to be trying to figure out how to react to the FIRST Switch.

Nobody, not even Steam, is doing what Nintendo is pulling off right now. What a fun time for this hobby. A few years ago I thought the big N was about dead!!

Re: Doug Bowser Promises "Steady Supply" Of Switch 2s, Nate Bihldorff Plays Mario Kart With Jimmy Fallon

spiderman0616

As of yesterday my son still hadn't gotten his because he'd been out of town. I noticed on an online stock tracker that while every single Target in my area was showing out of stock, the Best Buy near me had seemingly just gotten a shipment. I couldn't believe it.

We headed over there and there were signs out front that I was sure were probably "Out of Stock" signs but it was just a bunch of "Yes, we have Switch 2!" signs. We were both thrilled. I had gotten mine on launch day but wasn't enjoying it fully yet because I knew he wasn't able to get his and wouldn't like sharing with me as much as having his own new shiny one.

Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?

spiderman0616

I'm not above playing with just joycons, but I use my current Pro Controller for EVERYTHING. It's a pain to have to set up button profiles and settings and stuff to flip the letters around for some things, but all in all it's been great for me as a universal controller for all my Switch AND non-Switch games.

I actually prefer that most non-Nintendo systems treat the Pro Controllers like generic controllers and NOT recognize the brand. GeForce NOW on my TV just treats it like an Xbox controller, no profiles needed.
