I feel like I’m the only person in the world who found this game incredibly stupid and annoying. I can’t believe it would be mentioned anywhere near game of the year. I am convinced I’m missing something.
I'm loving Metroid Prime 4--the overworld IS a little goofy, but fortunately you don't spend a ton of time there. The "sidekicks" you meet along the way don't annoy me at all and actually look so good graphics-wise.
The DNA of Metroid is still very much here. The bike areas just break up the momentum when they don't need to. On the other hand, I quite enjoy riding around finding crystals to smash. Something satisfying about it.
We’ve had a couple Switch 2s in the house since launch, but for those of you whose first day is today—CONGRATULATIONS!! You are in for such a treat. It’s an amazing console.
@BaldB3lper78 If every single thing Nintendo does spells Nintendo doom, then nothing Nintendo does spells Nintendo doom. At least that’s how I look at it.
Commenters on this site love trying to spin every single story into some stupid scandal. Best to just ignore. 99% of them have no clue what they’re even talking about.
@w1p3out Couldn’t agree more. This article has to be the worst take I’ve ever seen on this site. Baffles me how some find it heart warming or cute. I personally find it mean. We’re literally talking about something your child REALLY wants for Xmas.
@Nintendo_Thumb
I hope this kid becomes a writer one day and writes an article about that time his dad trolled him online about how he’s not getting a toy for Christmas.
But seriously I think some people could benefit from pausing to remember that this is also primarily a toy for children.
“I couldn’t have the thing I wanted most for Christmas that year because my dad was Very Online and had an existential problem with it.”
I love my Switch 2 so much. This has been the most awesome console launch of my life (I’ve been through a few, I’m 48 ) made even more special by the fact that my son and I got our launch units together. The lineup has kept me VERY busy since day 1 and the hardware is just about everything I dreamed it would be.
I played my old Switch a lot, but the Switch 2 goes literally everywhere with me and is usually in its case on my nightstand at night while I sleep too.
Super pleased. Fabulous device. Makes the original feel like a prototype.
@Exerion76 Same reaction I have to these unfortunately. I tried a couple of these type of games (Bravely Default 2 among others) and I can’t do 100 hours of the same enemies, areas, fight music, etc over and over and over. And that’s not counting all the hours I’m undoubtedly going to get stuck on bosses.
I’m similar in age to you and if I’m going spend 100 hours on one game it needs to have a lot more depth than these typically do.
@StarCollector To me, the weird controls are what make the game. Once you get used to them, you are in for the most intense online racing you've possibly ever experienced. My hands literally get sweaty.
I can see why some people look at Air Riders as having a lack of variety, but I personally disagree. I feel the depth in gameplay and learning how to successfully race on each track are both so much fun and so challenging at the same time. Once you start unlocking more racers and really trying to master all the modes, there's quite a bit to do here. This may be my favorite Switch 2 game of the year so far other than (suprisingly) Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
@Peirceroyal I am not ready to say it's better than Mario Kart, but I agree with you generally--it's got gameplay qualities that are unique from other racers and when I do poorly on a track I feel compelled to go back and master it. This is the mark of a good racer to me. Fast Fusion is also pretty unbelievable (and supports GameShare!)
This game rules. It's one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" games that give you endless depth and enjoyment and gets its hooks into you fast. I have had so much fun with it already.
@iLikeUrAttitude Damned if you do damned if you don’t then I guess. I think it makes total sense for physical copies to cost more, especially if they’re just going to sit on a collector’s shelf unplayed like some kind of precious gem, rather than a lump of plastic that will degrade over time and become unusable eventually anyway.
@Solid_Python Yep. I figured the comments on Nintendo Life in response to this headline would be something along the lines of either a) "No it isn't, it doesn't have 3rd party games or b) i'M gOiNG To WhiNE aBoUT GKCs AgAin
But it turned out to be a third, infinitely dumber option: c) Games that you download are fake.
@TheExile285 They telegraphed the whole 2025 release schedule pretty early on (and it’s anything but sparse—there are tons of games). I don’t get people who bought the hardware knowing the software lineup that was coming, then take to the internet to complain ad nauseum about the lineup. If someone bought the hardware and are now mad about the software, they simply didn’t do their homework before spending the money. It’s nobody’s fault but their own.
The Switch, and even more so the Switch 2, are real world examples of how far we’ve come in performance per watt and what kind of power you can fit into a tablet-sized device. Our biggest inhibitor now in almost every modern device on the market is battery capacity.
This is a moment in gaming I’ve been waiting for my whole life. We should all just enjoy it and take it in while it’s new and shiny.
@Ashunera84 I taught myself long ago that “reading the comments” is an exercise in insanity. Dumb dumbs on the internet rarely have any idea what they’re talking about.
But I do often read them here because I like this site a lot and man some of you folks actively root against Nintendo. I don’t get it.
Continuing to have a blast with Legends: Z-A. I just really love it. They got the variety of activities just right in this game and got rid of a lot of the menu management so it's continuing to hit all the right notes for me. I feel that I'm going to finish it pretty soon, but I did just hit a wall in difficulty, so I'm just savoring my time now.
Yeah so……if you’re Microsoft or Sony maybe exclusives don’t matter anymore but the lack of exclusives on those platforms is why I don’t own a PS5 or Series X/S. I can play most of those games on my Switch, computer, or even iOS devices and the ones I can’t play don’t seem that interesting anyway.
@iLikeUrAttitude With Pokémon allegedly being the “most successful IP in the world”, these games should have Disney level budgets and much better graphics. I find the new one very fun but the graphics are not its strong point.
I was not doing much gaming when Pokemon started, so this franchise has never done much for me. When I got a Switch I made an honest try on the newer video games (Sword/Shield, Scarlett/Violet, Arceus) and found them all really boring and tedious.
Something has clicked with me over the last few months with Pokemon though. I got hooked on the TCG Pocket app and still play it daily, and I am having a FABULOUS time with Legends Z-A. I find the progression and various quest options to be so much more entertaining than in games past and am hooked on it. I imagine this will be the first Pokemon game I finish.
I will never collect the physical cards or watch the cringey anime, but I sure am liking the video games lately!
@Skunkfish I’m not sure they ever planned on being supply constrained. They have reached pretty good equilibrium at this point from what I’ve heard and the console is still selling like crazy.
@charliecarrot I tend to agree—especially after how much Civ 7 I’ve played on mine. It is not only a fabulous replacement for my original Switch but also is now stealing time away from my PC library. We are now at the point where a console inside of a tablet can run games that at least approach PC graphics.
And I will also add my sentiment that it is utter NONSENSE that people think the Switch 2 is boring or Nintendo being lazy or whatever else. This machine is everything everyone wished the first one was. It is exactly what I’m guessing the VAST majority of Switch 1 users wanted, higher price aside.
All the complaining is a storm in a teacup. This hardware is going to rule the world by next year.
@John_Deacon If not THE most profitable. Big agree here—it continues to baffle me as well. I have far more fun with the card game than I ever have with the video games and the anime is just meh at best too. Still deciding if I even want this next attempt or not. TCG Pocket is entertaining me plenty for now.
This case looks cool, but I would never use it because of the experience I had with my RTS case for my Switch OLED. Those fabric raised areas the Switch sits on top of, if they'e like my old case, will eventually rub bald spots on the back of the Switch 2 over time. Looks like for this one it would be a large unsightly rectangle. I'd say buyer beware to anyone who is bothered by stuff like that.
Say what you will about the 1st party cases being over priced--one of the reasons I chose Nintendo's option this time is because it's just basically a pouch with none of that stuff on the inside.

This poor kid at school:
My dad writes for a famous Nintendo website!
Cool! I bet you get to play all the new games!
Nah, he doesn’t like the Switch 2. He’s not “convinced” yet because it gets clicks on his website.
For crying out loud…..
