I liked the commercial. Not sure why some commenters here are bagging on it for not being a Gen 10 Direct. It’s a commercial during a sports event. Step away from the computer and get some fresh air.

@SuntannedDuck2 I have to agree with you here--especially about the PS5 being boring. That system is ultra powerful but Sony somehow majorly lost their mojo with exclusives and the one game I wanted to play on their platform this gen (God of War 2) is now available on PC so I can just grab it on Steam if I ever want to.

I also don't understand why this site has so many regular writers who don't seem to like Nintendo's hardware or software--why spend all this effort and creativity on a system you don't enjoy? Along the same lines, I also don't know why so many commenters spend so much time bagging on a system they clearly don't want, don't own, and have no intention of owning.

I know it's just the internet being the internet, but as I've said in other comments, it makes this site way less fun. Every topic turns into "This is crap because I don't like it and neither should you." It's worse than on all the Apple sites.

@WiltonRoots It's a level of purposeful obtuseness I see in few other places, and I live in the US, so that's saying a lot.

@Duncanballs 90s teen as well, but had kind of abandoned gaming in general in HS and college. Got back into it afterwards when we had two small children, student debt, and no money for anything else. Switch 1 brought me back to Nintendo when I got one for my kids and started getting sick of asking for a turn so I bought my own. lol

My boys are now at the age where THEY are starting to drift away from gaming a bit in favor of their social lives and activities and school (and rightly so!) but I'm sure I'll still be playing when they come back!

@Duncanballs Us too! My younger son and myself are the two big gamers in the house and we both got ours opening weekend and it was such a special launch because of that.

@JohnnyMind Let’s hope the momentum keeps going and they build on the success again next gen too. I like to think the Switch and Switch 2 have been the culmination of all their weird hardware experiments over the years and I do not wish for them to abandon the form factor to chase another niche audience that actually doesn’t exist.

@OmnitronVariant You’re doing some serious mental gymnastics here so you can tell us all the sky isn’t blue and water isn’t wet, but your logic is just not sound.

The Switch 2 is the best system I’ve ever owned. The Switch 1 felt like a bit of a toy to me both in looks and functionality (even though it was an amazing console itself). I finally feel like Nintendo hit a sweet spot with the switching concept they’ve been working toward since Wii U.

@OmnitronVariant Your anecdotal data and opinions are nowhere near evidence of anything at all.

Unpopular opinion: video game retailers and physical copies of games can all die off and I won’t think twice. Neither is needed. It’s 2026. GameStop will eventually suffer the same fate and I’ll care even less.

@daftmagician LOL I never understand those comments either. There were even a couple in the article about Switch 2 having high developer interest. “Well that’s great but I don’t like my Switch 2 it has no games.”

I don’t get it and never will.

@DTfearTheBEARD Microsoft is trying to be both the biggest 3rd party in the world AND a console maker. That’s never going to work unless their next console is more like one of those Steam machines.

I agree with you though—it is a shame—I have always loved Xbox and it feels like a zombie brand at this point.

@psyraven76 Tears of the Kingdom is just one of those games. Did a second playthrough on Switch 2 and couldn’t put it down.

I’m loving it. Never played the original. 9 so far for me.

I'm glad to hear this news, but at the same time never put any energy into the doom and gloom clickbait about low holiday sales. There is not a whole lot of logic in comparing the two launch years and I felt the whole narrative was ridiculous.

The Switch 2 rules--I'm so glad I've had mine since day 1 because I've played it almost every day since. Feels like sci-fi being able to play games like FF7 Intergrade or Cyberpunk on a handheld. Battery life could be better, but I rarely play long enough at a time to go through a whole charge.

Either 1) You actually think your comments section represents anywhere near a significant amount of the fan base (it doesn't) or 2) You just like rage baiting.

So glad to see some of you have about as many games/hours as me for the year. I'm going to choose to ignore the additional hours I put in on Steam and Gamepass as well. Yikes.

As much as I do not care what happens to GameStop, I always like visiting them. I just don’t have any real reason to anymore. Starting in my PS4 days, my library started shifting fully to digital because I really liked not having to switch discs in and out, especially the days when I was a heavy PSVR user.

When I got the first Switch, I started out buying everything physical because I was slowly selling a lot of old unused hardware and software back to GameStop and using credit to buy used physical copies of other stuff. But my Switch (now my Switch 2 with a much larger hard drive) goes just about everywhere with me these days and I don’t feel like dealing with physical games.

I read somewhere that on PlayStation these days, physical games only account for about 3% of sales—I’m fine with it. No more plastic out in the world. I’d be fine with moving cartridge/disc drives forever to lower console prices too.

@WiltonRoots I have to add—and I’ll just get called a Nintendo apologist or whatever—but I have serious doubts that armchair quarterbacking we’re seeing in the stories about this have anything to do with reality.

The launch timing of the hardware was different and so in turn were software release schedules, which people are suddenly looking at through rose colored glasses for the Switch 1. It may have had a “Zelda and a Mario” year one, but many were complaining that was ALL it had and all it would ever have because it was such weak hardware.

Of course none of that was true either and most of the garbage people are saying now isn’t either other than it really does suck to be in the US right now and our economy is in the toilet. Hardly Nintendo’s fault.

@Exerion76 It bears repeating that "other handhelds" is a sliver of the market and they aren't really the same kind of device. The Switch/Switch 2 are mass market devices.

@MattmanForever The product is exactly as different as the user base was clamoring for it to be and if that same user base had some kind of illusion that it would be cheaper than its predecessor, sorry that’s just fantasy land.

I feel like I’m the only person in the world who found this game incredibly stupid and annoying. I can’t believe it would be mentioned anywhere near game of the year. I am convinced I’m missing something.

@Res462 I’m almost at the end at have not felt like I have at all other than to just goof around.

I'm loving Metroid Prime 4--the overworld IS a little goofy, but fortunately you don't spend a ton of time there. The "sidekicks" you meet along the way don't annoy me at all and actually look so good graphics-wise.

The DNA of Metroid is still very much here. The bike areas just break up the momentum when they don't need to. On the other hand, I quite enjoy riding around finding crystals to smash. Something satisfying about it.

We’ve had a couple Switch 2s in the house since launch, but for those of you whose first day is today—CONGRATULATIONS!! You are in for such a treat. It’s an amazing console.

Commenters on this site love trying to spin every single story into some stupid scandal. Best to just ignore. 99% of them have no clue what they’re even talking about.

I played all the way through Starfield on Gamepass and thoroughly enjoyed it. May just double dip on Switch 2.

I love my Switch 2 so much. This has been the most awesome console launch of my life (I’ve been through a few, I’m 48 ) made even more special by the fact that my son and I got our launch units together. The lineup has kept me VERY busy since day 1 and the hardware is just about everything I dreamed it would be.

I played my old Switch a lot, but the Switch 2 goes literally everywhere with me and is usually in its case on my nightstand at night while I sleep too.

Super pleased. Fabulous device. Makes the original feel like a prototype.
