@datamonkey Do you think they just develop the game all the way up until the second it ships? There are cut off points. And the DLC isn't required. It's already a huge enough game on its own. Just don't buy it.
Along this line of thinking, why do sequels to things have to come out? Why couldn't they just put all that stuff in the first one? Why did the Switch 2 have to come out? Why couldn't they just put everything on the hardware we already have?
Software gets released. You usually get asked to pay for it. Vote with your wallet. What else can I tell you?
Was pleasantly surprised by a new Fire Emblem and the Galaxy re-releases. Definitely happy about Metroid Prime 4. But I still really wish there was a little less "coming in 2026" during that Direct.
So many armchair quarterbacks. Devs can charge what they want/need to charge. So can Nintendo. Don’t buy it if you don’t like it, but the sales for both Hollow Knight games and Nintendo first party games continue to thrive.
I think this initial batch of releases, both 1st and 3rd party, have been plenty to get me through to the holidays. I’ve been planning on finishing brand new titles first, rereleased or upgraded 4K titles second, and other random backlog from Switch 1 third. Right now I feel like I have plenty of fresh stuff to play to get me through to holiday release season and will not be getting to some of the older stuff for quite some time.
@Coalescence Right! This is what happens when you have a vision and a plan and just stay the course. It takes discipline. You have to be willing to keep your head down and work on what you know is right for your vision even while you are ridiculed for being wrong or behind or whatever else.
There are very few companies in the world willing to operate this way. Most of the ones I can name are insanely successful. And never once did Layden say "Nintendo is perfect and makes everyone happy." Obviously some of you are offended and took it that way though lol.
@Dman10 Agree. As a heavy gamer most of my life, (I'm now in my late 40s), I have made a lot of friends that are also gamers. A subset of them are very stubborn about only buying physical copies of things in case they want to play them again, they want to give them to their kids later, etc. The reasons vary.
Guess what though--that same subset of friends never even plays them when they're new. I'll spend 40 or 50 hours to complete a new open world game and I could ask any of them what they thought of it and they'll say either "I've never even opened it." or "I played for an hour and then packed it up."
To each their own for sure, but I just don't get the point. A lot of my old CDs and even some of my old plastic SNES cartridges have started malfunctioning now because plastic basically warps and melts over time if it sits in one spot for years and years. That same thing will happen to all these useless game collections. There's literally almost no reason to amass them, and I don't ever want to go back to swapping cards/discs out every time I want to switch games.
The part about the power bank acting as a fulcrum—ugh—that’s exactly the thing I would worry about with a case like this. At the very least it’s going to rub friction spots and scratches on the back of the Switch and at worst will cause some kind of damage in transit.
I will never understand how 3rd party case makers green light cases that potentially damage the device.
Gaming/tech media in many ways have lost the plot on how many actual people pay attention to any of these specs or capabilities. Especially when it comes to AI good lord.
@Waluigi451 Same. I had to have it. Donkey Kong is my favorite franchise. I will probably do the same for Metroid Prime 4, assuming there will be new ones for that. I love my Metroid Fusion set.
I’m still not regretting going with the Nintendo brand sleeve this time around. I loved my 3rd party case for the Switch 1 (and my son is still using it!) but there was nothing like it out on the market when I got my Switch 2. It’s already prevented cosmetic or functional damage from a fall once, so I’m a happy camper.
@The_Nintend_Pedant I mean, it wasn’t directed at you, but who is going to read all these paragraphs and paragraphs? We’re in a forum about what’s essentially a toy. Chill.
I am absolutely loving all the sour grapes and people just being flat out purposefully obtuse in this thread. Some of you must have lost a bet or something!
But seriously, not to say you have to love everything Nintendo does, but some of you seem to flat out dislike when they succeed. If you fall in that category, I would suggest maybe......don't read sites like this? I mean, for the last 7 or 8 years, and what's looking like probably the next 7 or 8 years, Nintendo is on a tear. And rightfully so. I think it's their turn again. If that bothers you, you're probably preaching at the wrong crowd here.
@YoshiTails I think the environments of each planet were very resource-locked due to the Switch 1 being pretty low powered even at launch. That being said, I agree with you here.
The sparse environments were an original barrier to why I didn't want to play Odyssey or buy a Switch. I saw my kids playing it on theirs and my reaction to it was "Meh....seems like you just run around in lots of big open fields"
Later on, when I had my own Switch, I gave it an honest try and it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. Got 999 moons and everything. I went down roughly the same path with Breath of the Wild.
I think on Switch 2 a game like this is going to hit a lot different than those. At least I hope, because DK is my favorite franchise.
@electrolite77 These kinds of articles pay the bills, unfortunately. Sad but true. I'd wager 99.99% of gamers don't want to bust open their controllers, and in my experience the batteries on these things last the life of the console and more. We have three in my house that are about the age of the Switch 1 right now and they're all still doing amazing.
@Runex2121 I have always set up repairs with Nintendo and I think all but once got brand new ones back as replacements. Even out of warranty. That seems like a much better way to go than throwing them out and shelling out for a fresh one--Nintendo should have to pay for their poorly designed stuff, not me!
My first gen Pro Controller is still going strong--have had it for years and years and never had an issue--gifted it to my son along with my gen 1 Switch when I got the Pro Controller 2 and now I kind of worry about its wellbeing sometimes.
My original Switch joy-cons had one or two drift issues over the years, but my Switch OLED ones never had an issue at all and they were heavily used. In that time period, all of my other controllers have broken including my DualSense and my Backbone One, and they weren't getting nearly as much use.
My point: Shockingly, over the years, even with the drift issues, my Nintendo stuff has been the MOST reliable.
Racing games almost always look good and this one is no exception. But the thing that sucks me in to Fast Fusion for long sessions is the gameplay. It’s just really polished. This game deserves lots of sales.
Seeing this makes me realize how cool a dockable Switch Lite would have been. Holding out hope for Switch Lite 2, but I'm thinking Nintendo probably doesn't want that eating too much into Switch 2 sales. Maybe if they upgrade the Switch 2 to OLED eventually and keep it the same price as it is now--plenty would opt for the full size over the LIte in that situation, I'd think.
EDIT: Of course, they'd have to sell all the extra controllers and dock separately in order to maintain the core appeal of the Lite in the first place, which is a risky move.
@Serpenterror I don't think this is accurate at all. The ROG handheld I think was just a market test to see if anyone is even interested. And nowhere have they said they're getting rid of the Xbox division. They just recently doubled down on future consoles being developed in fact.
@OorWullie That's true, and I've never been able to find reliable information on if it even really helps developers or not. How does a small, first time developer like Sandfall recoop their investment on a game like Clair Obscur unless MS is paying them big bucks to have it available?
I'm just uncomfortable with the whole state of the industrty right now. Love to see Nintendo doing well with Switch 2, do not love seeing MS and Sony appear to be a little lost with their strategy and release schedule. They both need to reinvent their brand and it needs to happen ASAP. Nintendo has stayed in the game this long because when they try things that aren't working they know how to pivot to something that does work.
I hate seeing this news, as I think Gamepass is the first good idea MS has had in a long time, and have been a user of it for about 2 years now. Even played Starfield, Clair Obscur, and a couple others in their entirety on Gamepass cloud streaming!
The gaming industry needs wins right now, not stuff like this.
@SuperBro64 Ignore "all the backlash". It's a storm in a teacup and just seems worse because it's always in the comments sections.

I can tell you all that I absentmindedly launched my Switch 2 off the side of my bed while unpacking the other day. It was in the official Nintendo brand case and suffered no damage whatsoever even though it kind of whacked into my dresser on its way down. Nice bonus: The case ITSELF suffered no damage either. Still looks new!
Several times now---stay aggressive, stay out of the main race line, get good at getting a tow from racers ahead of you, and keep an eye on your six. You'll win one eventually.
I hope Sony doesn't share this view internally in 2025, because it would be a large mistake. I think that the first gen Switch was a major disruptor that people aren't fully appreciating quite yet. Switch 2 is going to be an unstoppable beast.

CanNOT deal with scratches on any of my device screens. I put an AmFilm on my Switches the second they come out of the box. When it comes to a mobile device like this that also is designed to be docked the way it is, scratches are inevitable. I'd rather they happen on a $10 piece of tempered glass than my Switch 2 that would be impossible to replace right now.
@Ratmasterd21 SO GLAD someone mentioned this because these are the flippant rage bait headlines that drive me nuts when it comes to tech/gaming reporting.
I get all the excitement and enthusiasm--I'm there too--but gee whiz, some of you need to give it a second. This system has only been out for like what, 10 days?

@electrolite77 I agree. I was a big PS3/PS4 user, but right now the Xbox/Gamepass library is far more attractive to me. Their whole "This is an Xbox" marketing push is actually brilliant and I think that's the correct long term strategy if you're not Nintendo right now.
@Mesozoic_Masquerade I've found with the rise of cloud gaming that I can even cut the physical PC out most of the time. I access Steam and Gamepass through GeForce NOW, both of which run on my phone with my Backbone controller, and natively on my TV which I can play with my Nintendo controllers.
So if I'm going on a trip, it's pretty great to know that if I have my Switch 2 and my Backbone, I'm set for whatever game I feel like. What a time to be alive!
@DominionGamma I think the thing that feels a little different this time around is that they are probably going to gain ground as just a "regular" console hooked up to a TV too. Nintendo games finally look modern, I can't believe it.
