Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting closer, a nice early opportunity to enjoy plenty of karting goodness early on in the lifecycle of the Nintendo Switch. Wii U owners may have seen it all before, apart from the new Battle Modes and arenas, but there's no denying that with all of the former DLC thrown in it'll offer plenty of value for money.
That's the marketing angle Nintendo is going for, and it's released an updated trailer advertising the 'biggest Mario Kart game yet'.
Are you looking forward to picking this up on Switch?

No. If you already purchased the original game and all DLC, spending an extra $60 for this one feels like a rip-off. Why wasn't there a discounted price for people that bought the Wii U version (or, at the very least, those that bought both DLC packs)? Very disappointing.
I wanted a Daisy amiibo costume Nintendo!
@AZBros Completely agree. This is essentially a $60 DLC pack.
The way I see it (not that everyone else has to) is that I'm buying a game for a second time for full price, but with a new battle mode, a few new characters and car parts, handheld mode, and a few other smaller things. That all being said I know my wife and I along with friends and family will get a ton of hours out of this game once again, and it's nice knowing I won't have to drag the Wii U around or even hook it up again just to play some Mario Kart 8 with everybody.
@AZBros yep! Should be 50% off if you had it digitally on wii u!!!!!!!
I migh tconsider buying it again.When I got MK8 originally, we were three guys who pitched in, and it absolutely paid itself back.
@AZBros Well said. Exactly how I feel.
Look at it as $20 for Battle Mode DLC and $40 for a portable version of one one the best multiplayer games ever made, with enhanced graphics, more characters, and a few other additions.
Now, if the DLC tracks also had to be re-purchased... that would be greedy and wrong.
I just hope the online interface, loading times, and uninspired menus have been fixed.
Entitled gamers. lmao
EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FREE.
Reality check people - games OLD OR NEW on new consoles cost money to make.
I got it on Wii U, played it a lot (maybe 2nd most behind Splatoon, in battle with Mario Maker and Xenoblade X) and will buy Deluxe!! Better on frames, new characters, battle mode, voice chat possibility, portability. And most of all it's a really fun game. April 28th can't come soon enough!!
I already bought the game for the Wii U but not the DLC. I might pick this up because I like Mario Kart and it has the DLC.
If you had bought a physical copy of MK8, you could easily sell it for $20 - $30... there's your discount.
If you opted to buy it digitally, that was your choice and everyone knows you can't re-sell digital copies.
I'm considering buying it but I feel a bit ripped off that there's no discount for people who bought the damn game and dlcs already. On the other hand - portable mario kart 8!
I want it haha... never bought the DLC for Wii U, want to try that out, also MarioKart in the car sounds awesome!
Should Nintendo also discount Zelda Breath of the Wild on Switch for those who bought a Wii U copy? I say no.
I fully expect to pay for every game on every console even if I own Super Mario World on SNES or Ocarina of Time on the 64. I will rebuy these on Switch VC for the convenience of having them with me on my platform of choice.
@onex Ya right! We're entitled gamers for not wanting to spend another €60 on a game that's less than 3 years old and cost most of us Wii U owners €75 including DLC. Also, a lot of people have been buying this game years after its release date.
More like you're a fanboy apologist. Nintendo could easily have found a work around solution but have greedy $ signs in their eyes while giving the middle finger to us Wii U owners. Reminder, we're the ones who stood by Nintendo while everyone else averted their eyes elsewhere.
I love the box-art
DEATH STARE CONFIRMED. 1:03 on the video. Haha. That took the world by storm when the game first came out. Love Luigi.
I totally agree with others that it's hard to buy this again, for me it's part price and it's part having to rebeat all the tracks.
Really wish Nintendo would have shown some love to the faithful Wii U few (VERY few apparently). A discount or something, but I don't think they care about us right now. They need the millions of others who didn't have Wii U. For now, no Switch for me nor this game. My self-control (and budget) says "anywhere" would be fun, but I already have this game.
Just one new cup Nintendo, and I would have been frothing at the mouth for this.
I'm getting it. I paid full price two years ago?
I am going to buy this, again. I just wish they put in another cups worth of tracks. 8 new tracks would have made me totally on board. 4 new, 4 reimagined classics. If they are gating new tracks behind a dlc paywall I will be a little unhappy. And it takes a lot to make me unhappy. Haha.
I also wish they would go back to the old time trials top 5 method from Mario Karts of the past. I dont care how I rate with some guy from Japan. Also an option to merge your times with a friend so you can stay conpetitve with each other would be fantastic.
Mario Kart 8 is my favorite Mario Kart. You can bet your Switch that I really look forward to play this on the go!
@AZBros
Trade the wii u copy in, I did that when I first got my switch and got £19 for it, the switch version is £42 on Amazon UK so the trade it effectively covers almost half of it
I know everyone's circumstances are different but I never purchased any of the DLC so for me at least there's enough new content to warrant buying again and I'm totally hyped for it
@AZBros Yeah, I want to be a part of the hype on this one, but I think I'm sitting it out. I played this and all the DLC to death on Wii U. Why they didn't just wait a bit and make a full-on Mario Kart 9 come out in the summer of next year and port something else over to start this generation off is beyond me. MK8 was the best-selling of all Wii U titles by a huge margin if I'm not mistaken, so it's not like it's a hidden gem people missed out on.
My theory is that they started work on the new Battle Mode for the Wii U version and/or MK8 Deluxe itself was already in the cards for the Wii U some time ago and when it became apparent that the system would remain a flop, they decided to work on bringing it to the Switch instead.
Like many games, I want to be excited and part of the hype, but for this game I just can't. I don't think I'm going to get it.
I'm not encouraging companies to release 3 year old games with minimal new content at full price. I don't really enjoy playing the Switch in portable mode....feels awkward.....so that's not a selling point for this game for me.
YA pay 60 bucks for gold Mario and then another 60 for 20 chili dawgs YA
@MarioPhD
The wii u only sold around 13 million consoles.... The switch could potentially sell 50 million + if it does well
Thats another 37 million potential new customers
It makes sense to port one of the best wii u games for all those that did miss out.
For those that have played it to death already, nobody is forcing anybody to buy it again
I hope Mario kart 9 comes to the switch. I've played Mario kart 8 to death, it's a great game and everything but I can't buy it again. I hope the online stays for the Wii u version.
Nintendo can't count to 9.
@Marios-love-child If Nintendo doesn't have MK9 out by the time Switch sells 50 million, then they're idiots.
@LUIGITORNADO
Couldn't agree more
@Marios-love-child True, but I think you'd get more of those hypothetical 50 million by launching Mario Kart 9, a true sequel, after a little more time passes. I think re-releasing this now means an actual new entry in the series is a long, long way away, and I don't much see the point of that, honestly, since I think a genuine sequel could have made it a big game for early to mid-2018. I feel like a re-release should happen for a reason, and I don't see the reason for it here. If anything, they've just massively upped the ante for what people will expect from MK9, which doesn't strike me as particularly bright, either. Even just calling it Mario Kart Switch and pledging DLC way down the road to make it its own thing in addition to what MK8 offered would make more sense in my eyes, but clearly a whole lot of people are hyped up about this, so clearly they know what they're doing.
@MarioPhD
I don't see why they can't release this and then Mario kart 9 in a couple of years
If EA can churn out fifa an madden every 12 months I honestly don't see the harm in a couple of Mario kart games per generation
@MarioPhD I don't think this release implies anything about MK9, personally. I think it simply implies they were looking for a quick, easy way to bolster the launch window lineup. Hopefully we still get MK9 in a couple years.
Unfortunately, I'm one of the idiots that will be buying this a second time. I do think it is overpriced, yet it's the game my wife and I played together the most... so having the convenience of having it on the new console (With the soon to be larger online community, I'm sure), along with the new battle mode and the ability to take it portable, means I will end up buying it again begrudgingly. Like others said, had they added even a single new cup, I would have been happy, but instead, I feel a bit ripped off. Oh well. Maybe they'll continue to support MK8 Deluxe by launching new cups in the future.
@roadrunner343 As long as the people buying are happy, I'm happy for them! I'm just a bit bummed out. I WANT to be excited about this one, and I'm disappointed that I just can't be. I have items on eBay now in anticipation of buying this, and as more time passes, I don't think I will. The poor reception for Lego City and its performance issues has me similarly concerned, so the retail titles in April have turned out to be a bit of a bust for me personally.
Luckily, there's a ton of great indies on the way! I'm excited about Wonder Boy, Mr. Shifty, RiME, Tumbleseed, and many more on the horizon. That and I'm amped up about Disgaea 5 and (to my own shock) Puyo Puyo Tetris after playing the Japanese eShop demo for it. Tons to love coming very soon, fortunately!
Looking forward to this.
I bought GTAV on the PS3 and guess what?
Had to pay for it again on the PS4.
Same with the Last of Us.
I bought the Wii U version and will be buying this version. Will be good for playing with people who didn't own the Wii U with the bonus of the extra game modes.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE If you have Prime or Best Buy Games Club, the game will be $48+tax (pre-order on Prime). If you bought the retail version for your Wii U, sell it on eBay and clear $23 (or more) after fees/shipping or sell it on Craig's List for $30. It ends up costing as little as $18 + the tax to "upgrade" Seems simply enough to me. When available it makes no sense to me as to why anyone would buy a digital version of a 1st party Nintendo game. They hold their value better than any and over time can be worth as much or more than what you paid.
@Agent721 This. So much this.
Really, I'm tired of reading the same pointless comments all over again.
I bought MK8 on the Wii U. I splashed out the extra cash for the DLC (the only game I've ever bought DLC for).
And no, I'm not gonna buy it again.
Well, I don't have a Switch and that helps me not buy it lol, but ehen I eventually get a Switch I don't see myself double dipping on this game.
But guess what? Does me not wanting to buy ot again make it wrong to rerelease the game? Of course no, but it sounds like people just can't understand the difference.
I'm not gonna buy, as I said, but this doesn't mean it's a good move.
Obviously a market that's only flooded by rereleases is not healthy, but releasing the game again on a new platform gives all those prople who didn't have a Wii U (basically, A LOT of people) the chance to play a masterpiece they've missed.
You've already bought it and don't wanna do it again? The game is not for you, just like it's not for me.
You already have it on Wii U but you want to double dip? Great, that's your choice, and noone can tell you you shouldn't.
@Agent721
I bought the Last of us on ps3 in 2014 on a PSN sale and still haven't played it yet. 😋. That me to a T.
@LUIGITORNADO true say.
@Amsterdamsters @SLIGEACH_EIRE
I sold Mario Kart Wii U for $35 on eBay just last month!!!!! And I'm buying the new one on Amazon for the $48, via Prime.
Net effect? I'm paying $13 for Mariokart on the Switch. Maybe a bit more when you account for Ebay's fee on the sale.
I'm getting it regrettably, but I feel ripped off by Nintendo in doing so.
Mario kart 8 cost me €60 + €12 DLC. I don't like spending that much on a game. There's not a hope I'll ever buy it again.
It still annoys me i spent €72 on it.
@Mart1ndo
I'm right there with you, with many other games...sometimes, a sale is too good to pass up!
Well, for those who skipped the Wii U and have a Switch, MK8 Deluxe will be fantastic brand new experience.
For those, like me, who played the original; we already played through 90% of that same fantastic experience. When you did buy MK8, you got almost 3 years of enjoyment out of the game up to this point. Is that not enough? If you don't care for the new features, that's fine but no-one's forcing you to make a purchase. (Actually from a business stand-point, how would they do that effectively? Would it be worth it for them as a company? Food for thought.)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Oh boo bloody hoo. You don't like the Switch, move on. My thumb can't swipe fast enough to get past your asinine "input", which lo and behold, is almost always cynical. Go join IGN already.
Torn between buying it to just pick up and play with friends whenever we feel like and... well I already have it. with all the DLC and everything. At 40€ I'd be more likely to buy it
April 28th can't get here fast enough!
@MarioPhD I'm a bit bummed too. If not for my wife, I'd be giving it a pass, for sure. Though, like you mentioned, I am pretty pumped for all of the indies and I'm really looking forward to Puyo Puyo Tetris. I've always been a Puyo fan.
I sold my wii u copy for £20 last month as I will never play it on wii u again. So the extra £22 for 1080p single player when docked, portable option and a proper battle mode is fine by me to tie me over til kart 9 or nintendo kart.
For those who have purchased the Switch and have Wii U version you don't have to double dip if you don't want to... but if you are tempted trade in the original.
And do the same with Smash as it is highly likely the deluxe version of that is coming soon.
When I feel like a sucker for wanting to get this again, I remember all the hours put into it on the U because it was just so much fun, and all the potential hours later because it probably will continue to be fun. Few games have been worth full price to me these days, let alone twice that.
@roadrunner343 I'd never played any of the Puyo games and didn't have high expectations, but even in spite of not understanding a word of the menus I really enjoyed it! I was shocked. May go digital on it, though, since it's $10 cheaper on the eShop.
@onex I'm sure Sliggy has muted me or ignored me or whatever they call it, so can you ask him for me if his copy of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U will stop working when the Deluxe edition is released, or if he gets to keep the game he paid for? Because if Nintendo is going to take the Wii U game away, then yes, it's ridiculous to charge full price to upgrade.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Cute edit, btw. You call me a fanboy apologist (lol? I also own a Ps4, WiiU, 3dsXl and New, and an avid Steam gamer) then edit your comment to prove just how delusional you really are. You think Nintendo, a BUSINESS, owes you something? You got what you paid for. AT THE TIME. That system was an utter failure next to only Virtual Boy, and they need software FAST to recoup those years of losses. You're not being forced to buy anything new. You're happy with MK8 on the U, stick with it. But don't act like you've been in an abusive relationship because they're no longer supporting a failure. Switch is the superior platform, plain and simple. Hop aboard or stay home.
I say why not. Offers you alot of content for 60$. And it seems like an upgraded version of the Wiiu version. Not to mention if this sells well we may get to see more DLC from it.......PLEEEEEASE Captain Falcon
It's perfect for me.
I never had a Wii U so it's my most anticipated game right now.
I honestly don't understand anyone feeling so burned by this release... just don't buy it if you feel this way and buy something else. Simple really
@AZBros Agreed. I like Mario Kart 8 myself, but it's going to take a lot more than just a better battle mode (never had a problem with the Wii U version's battle mode, but it's nice to see the Switch version beef it up a lot) and more characters for me to double dip. If I was given this as a gift, then I guess I can accept it.
This is also the same situation with Lego City Undercover for me, which I bought but never opened.
From that latest trailer, it's kinda weird.
The Miis still exist on Online Game Waiting Room, but still didn't show on the gameplay trailer. Plus, the "?" Sign still on th Bottom Left on Character Select if you remembered the Demo version. Where is the Miis ? Can we still use at least same 19 Amiibos from Wii U version ? What is "?" actually ? Random or Mii (when the games released) ?
Still not confirmed by Nintendo...
@PanurgeJr @onex I'm probably the biggest Nintendo fan around, and I already admitted I will likely be buying it again - but this is a terrible attitude to have. Of course they are a business, so it makes perfect sense that they would do this. That doesn't mean that customers should not be allowed to criticize their actions. Of course the don't "owe" us anything, but goodwill with the community can go a long way, so offering a discount for previous owners (Which isn't unheard of) or launching at a lower price wouldn't be unheard of for a port. Whether or not you or I think they should have launched at a lower price is beside the point, it is still a fair criticism. If nothing else, Nintendo will take the criticism and use it to inform future decisions, even if they decide to go the same route.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Then don't buy it.
If you feel spending money on this game to have on Switch with the extra modes and portable play is not worth it, then simply don't buy it. Consumer choice is a great thing.
But when you proactively demand it for free or for less simply because you bought another version? That is the very definition of entitlement. You bought another version and if you want to play then go play that version then. If you want to play this one with the added modes and with the portable play, then pony up like everyone else.
This isn't the welfare gaming program. Nobody's making you buy a second time. But when you start saying that you deserve it simply because you bought some previous version of it on a completely separate console last generation...
You don't see any other people getting discounts on GotY editions or ports... why on earth would you.
@roadrunner343 Let's say they decide to offer a discount to people own Mario Kart 8. How do they provide it to everyone who bought only a physical copy? How do they not provide to people who sold off their physical copy?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @JaxonH @AZBros I think it would a nice gesture for Nintendo to offer a discount to loyal Wii U owners that have it and the DLC already.
However, you can't say it's a total rip off and there is no value in having it on the Switch and then say you want them to offer it at a discount. If there's no value, then just play it on Wii U. Problem solved.
The issue is that this new version does have a good deal of value on the Switch for many. You can play it anywhere for instance. And the smaller in-game extras.
The issue is really that there is no middle ground for people who love the game but don't see quite the value Nintendo is asking for when they can just play it on their Wii U.
Nintendo doesn't have to offer a discount, but it would help.
For all those who don't have a Wii U or Mario Kart 8, the cost is perfectly great, actually.
I'll probably buy this again, mainly because as much as I enjoyed MK8, I never got on with the removal of being able to pick up another item while dragging the current one.
It totally ruined my defence tactic and often left me losing a race because I didn't have something to defend myself. I'm hoping the random item selector is a bit more lenient as well, just getting single green shells and bananas gets pretty boring when you're in first place.
I pre-ordered my copy for $24 on Amazon (-$12 for pre-order with Prime, -$24 for trading my Wii U copy to them).
@PanurgeJr Proof of purchase off cover maybe? Not sure.
@Discostew Nice... that's tempting
@JaxonH Obviously he's not going to buy it. He's stated as much. Voicing his opinion is still healthy for the community, as it lets Nintendo know that not everyone is happy with the pricing structure. Not every opinion voiced has to be 100% in support of Nintendo's every action. And plenty of developers (Nintendo included) offer discounts on GOTY editions and ports.
@PanurgeJr I'm not 100% certain, that would definitely be an issue. Off hand, they could just not worry about it, and give everyone a discount that registered the game. Personally, I would just prefer the game launch at around the $40 for all.
I got excited about this game when they announced an easier mode to stay on the course! Now I can play like a pro!
@roadrunner343
Of course they don't.
I didn't respond to him because he disagreed with Nintendo, I responded because I found his demands to be irrational. The fact those demands were in disagreement with Nintendo is just coincidence. I think anytime someone buys a game, and it's crystal clear that the game is for that one particular platform, and then years later when the game comes to another system they demand it for less as if it's owed to them... that's unwarranted.
I was thinking about it, but no new courses kinda pushed me away.
It would be great if I didn't already have it but I don't think I need to buy the same game again. I hope the Switch gets an original Mario Kart game down the track (pun intended)
I'm buying it again for portability and Lan play. If you have an issue paying another 60 dollars then that's a you problem, the switch is going to have a FAR larger userbase than the Wii U so it only makes sense to release an improved version of the game for full price, it's making up for the failure of the Wii U. If you don't want to pay full price you don't have to, this game wasn't really re-released for entitled snowflakes.
You don't HAVE to buy this again if you have the Wii U version you know folks?!
I have the Wii U version and 4 controllers so I'll be happily keeping it to enjoy with my mates, and there's no need for me to buy the Switch version at present.
IF at some point I want to play it on Switch then that's my call and I can do that, perhaps after release it will be a little cheaper. Anyway that's MY decision and Nintendo aren't forcing me to do anything!
Have begrudgingly pre ordered from Amazon so will pay £40 for this. The misses and I have played over 250 hours of MK8, all DLC purchased, and whilst a couple of new cups at launch would have been nice, we can wait for the inevitable Switch DLC!
Played it already on the Wii U. What's next?
@onex What do you mean, cute edit? As I said, this game is less than 3 years old. That's like half a generation for a successful console. Did I mess up with Wii U or was it Nintendo? Answer: It wasn't me. So I've got to pay for Nintendo's mistakes? Think again!
@NateM94 Totally agree with you with the install base. At least, I'm buying this game betting that it will have a bigger install base.
MK is like FIFA, Madden, CoD, etc. to Mii. So every time a new kart comes out I'm there day 1. Needless to say I'll be purchasing this day 1 as well. And like many of you have argued that it's essentially the same game as the Wii U version, my reason for purchase is simple: MK8 is my favorite game of all time! And the added ability to play this in portable mode and connect wirelessly with up to 7 other Switch players and watch their reactions in person as you steal 1st place is going to be priceless
@JaxonH Refusing to buy at a given price point, and stating you would buy at a lower price, is that a demand. It's a valid criticism in my opinion.
@NateM94 in that case, since no one is ever forced to buy anything, they are all YOU problems and no one should ever be allowed to critique a business decision for any reason.
Can someone please ask @SLIGEACH_EIRE for me if Nintendo is taking away his copy of Mario Kart 8 when the Deluxe edition is released?
@roadrunner343
There's a difference between saying I'm not willing to pay that much and saying I deserve to pay less.
Clear distinction.
And I can critique that "critique" just as easily.
@roadrunner343 It's not criticism at all, valid or otherwise. It's the fundamental economic principle of supply and demand.
@BulkSlash
Tips for being Defensive on 1st place :
1. Try to get Banana peel/Green or Red shell from Random Item. Put them on back by holding L button. Try get another Defensive items and keep them. If you got Triple Banana or Triple Green/Red Shells, that's even better. Tanooki Tail is also can deflect Red/Green shell attack from behind. Though, you still can't avoid Blue Shell no matter what, unless...
2. Try to get Big Horn. That item is very rare, especially for being 1st place so use it wisely when any Shells attacking on you or other players are near of you.
@mid_55
I have Wii U version one year ago and I wanna buy again for Switch version and so what ?
@MarioPhD
I wonder what New Features that will be implemented on Mario Kart 9.
Mario Kart Wii = Enable to Flip in the Air
Mario Kart 7 = Gliding
Mario Kart 8 = Anti Gravity
Mario Kart 9 = Vehicle Transformation ???
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Hey, listen !
I will buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I will show it to you once I got the game.
You will see my promise later.
Got it ?
@Anti-Matter I feel like they'll need to do something big to justify having 2 Mario Kart titles on the same console, which I don't THINK has ever happened before. That's what makes me hopeful about this decision: they must be confident whatever they'll do for the 9th entry is going to be unique enough that it won't just be more of the same.
@samuelvictor great comment
@roadrunner343 I never said people aren't allowed to critique. My point is that criticisms should never be based on entitlement, but based on legitimate facts and a bare bones amount of reasoning skills. My reasoning supersedes yours because your reasoning is "I already bought it they should pander to me" when the reality is that they are selling it for core fans that will buy it happily for the new features and the large amount of new Nintendo console owners that never bought it on Wii U.
I'll give in come launch day I'm sure.
I wish there was new courses.
I don't play battle mode.
If I want to play this I'll just pull out my WiiU copy, I don't get anything out of buying it again.
Literally no reason to buy again. I play it on the same TV either way.
@JaxonH I totally agree with this person. Just because you have the Wii U game, doesn't mean that this version is bad, let alone having no value. I'm planning on getting it, especially with the Amazon sale, but if people feel like they want to stick with the Wii U version, it's okay.
I've actually played ports and remakes with much less additions than this game, and they don't get this kind of slack.
Reasons I plan to double dip:
-All previous MK8 tracks PLUS 8 new battle arenas
-A Proper Battle Mode
-All previous MK8 chars PLUS 5 new ones
-Item storing
-Portability PLUS up to 8 local handheld mode.
-Better frame rate is a plus, but not that big a deal.
That is more than enough reason to spend 60 bucks a few years later for such a high quality game, with even more improvements. Battle mode is gonna be so much fun at parties.
Eb games in Canada had a double-trade-in-value promotion in Feb for switch stuff so I essentially traded in mk8 on Wii u for mk8 on switch. Idk why everyone else didn't do that
I'm in agreement with the 'if you've bought it physically on Wii U just sell it and there's your discount' crowd. A digital discount for those who bought it digitally would be nice definitely but that's why I'd never buy a Nintendo game digitally. Physical copies retain their value. Digital you'll get nothing for, ever.
It's not just digital owners of MK8 on Wii U who should get a discount. Those who bought it physically should get a discount too. They could reuse the code on the scratch card that came with the game.
I'm aware that isn't a fool proof method. There's also the fact that most people bought the DLC and Nintendo know exactly who they are. They could easily compensate those buyers on Switch.
@Anti-Matter That's fine, in fact that's great, I'm certain it will be an amazing version and you'll love it!
I'm tempted myself, but as I already have the game on Wii U I'll leave it for now. Some people on here are acting like their Wii U copy becomes invalid and unplayable when the Switch version is released!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don't have a switch but I will buy a Mario kart 8 hyper deluxe edition.
I promise you. You will see my promise later. I promise you.
Lollllll
@NateM94 Way to put words in my mouth. Never once did I say they need to pander to me, or that I was somehow entitled to something from Nintendo due to a past purchase. There is a middle ground here, but it seems most people here want to group everyone into two distinct camps - Either the cost is well worth it, or it is grossly overpriced..
I've already stated, I plan on buying this again. I also think it is mildly overpriced for what it is. I'm not furious with Nintendo, but I think this probably would have received a warmer reception at around $40. It's not unheard of for ports, re-releases, best seller editions, GOTY, etc... to be released at a lower price point. If you think that the new features are worth $60, that's fine, but stop acting like no one else is allowed to think it is slightly (Or majorly, depending on who you ask) overpriced.
@AZBros are you serious? Whos gonna be playing this on wii u? Im getting this on Nintendo switch and digital for good measure.
@roadrunner343 way to put words in my mouth, I never said people weren't allowed to think it's overpriced. I simply argued against those who think they are entitled to a discount. Is it bullpoop Rime is 10 dollars more on Switch? Yes, that is a reasonable complaint. Is it bulldrome you don't get a discount for a different version of a game you already have? No, not at all. You don't really seem to know how to argue without leaving yourself more vulnerable, so I would recommend you go practice in a mirror before you reply.
@NateM94 Are you an idiot? You're the one that responded with "My reasoning supersedes yours because your reasoning is 'I already bought it they should pander to me'" which isn't even remotely close to what I said. I simply said it was slightly overpriced.
Never once did I imply that Nintendo owed me anything, yet you took it upon yourself to attempt to mock "my" reasoning. I do think it is overpriced. That was my reasoning. By stating your reasoning trumps mine implied that I am not allowed to think it's overpriced. Perhaps you should practice in the mirror? Or, you know, make sure you read someone's comment before replying with insults.
And yes, I know I opened this comment with an insult. Which you fully deserve at this point for your bullpoop mockery that isn't even remotely related to my stance on the topic. If you want to complain about the people demanding things for free, at least reply to the right people. I do think this is overpriced. That's it. Why is that so difficult to follow?
I am one of those that didn't had a Wii U, so I'm happy to buy this for me and my children. It's so good that Nintendo decided to enhance previously released games for new platforms so can reach even those that weren't there. Would have you preferred a software drought? I would have not bought it two times for full price, though I think there are people that will do it for the added portability. The others can eventually buy it second hand, or sell their Wii U copy. Don't criticize Nintendo for this because it's a boost to the console popularity and you will benefit from that too, definitely.
@Tetsuro I agree, Nintendo should not be criticized for porting their most popular titles. It makes perfect sense from a business perspective, and there are plenty of people that have yet to enjoy them. That said, I do think people should criticize the price (Only if they think it is unfair, obviously) if for no other reason than for Nintendo to reconsider future port prices. I've got it pre-ordered, and I'm looking forward to battle mode & portability, and I'm sure my wife and I will get a lot of playtime out of it. Still, I think Nintendo would have had a warmer reception at $40 or even $50. Even a $10 price drop may have garnered Nintendo some goodwill with previous owner. I have to wonder how many previous owners will be buying this again, and whether or not a slight price drop would have changed that.
@roadrunner343 first of all, the insult is the only thing needed for the validation of my point, anyone with a decent understanding of arguments and debate knows this to be a fact. I'm not the only one who has called you out on defending the position of those that feel entitled to a discount. And for your little example where my reasoning trumps yours, that doesn't mean your stance of thinking it's overpriced was necessarily incorrect, you just used the wrong critical reasoning for it. If you thought it was overpriced because games in general are overpriced, that's fair. If the game suddenly cost more than the original retail value for any reason, lo and behold another legitimate reason! If they removed features in any way, holy poop...another legitimate reason. You don't know what you are doing here and it's evident in all of your replies. Feel free to continue to try, maybe you will get somewhere. Or maybe you won't, as you continue to leave yourself open to harsher criticisms with every comment you make.
@NateM94 You're completely full of yourself. My insult was in response to your posts full of them. So whatever "point" of your's my insult proved, I'm fine with that. You're the one that attempted to call me out in a mocking manner, on a topic I never once implied was the case. No one's entitled to anything, and I never once implied they were.
As for my reasoning for why it's overpriced? It's simple. There's a ton of ports, re-releases, and GOTY/Best-sellers that launch at cheaper than the original retail price. Simple as that. Nintendo themselves do it all the time. Again, at the very least, if you plan on insulting and mocking, at least be sure to respond to the right person. I've no real issues with Nintendo doing what they're doing. I fully understand it and it's probably the smart business play. That doesn't mean I have to fully agree with the price point.
EDIT: And it doesn't take a genius to re-read the posts and see who is incapable of having a civilized disagreement and who stooped to mocking/insults first. I'm perfectly fine with disagreement. There's plenty of other people in this thread that I don't fully agree with, but they don't seem to have any problems with defending the viewpoint without making shit up, mocking, insulting, or putting words in other people's mouths. It's really not that hard. You should try it sometime.
@roadrunner343 you know what you got yourself into when you defended the point of people feeling like they should get a discount. Like I said, I'm not the only person who called you out on this. It's whatever for me though, you took too long to make a legitimate point (that Nintendo has re-released at lower prices before) and so the arguments were made and the damage is done. As much as I would love to argue with a stranger on the internet forever (which seems like you might as well based on the fact that you are also continuing this argument alongside me) I have to get ready for work, feel free to reply of course, I'll check the thread if I have the time during the day.
@NateM94 @roadrunner343 Enough with the profanity you two...
@Joeynator3000 for sure, I still don't agree with them but I think we all should calm down, we made our arguments and it's clear we won't agree on this subject. I'll call it a stalemate and not claim to win anymore. I forget children use this site as well, so consider this an apology.
@Joeynator3000 my fiancé pointed out it looks like I'm calling you a child, so I'll just clear that up now and say that's not the case. Poor wording on my part but you get the idea.
Eh, didn't seem like it to me, but yeah, it's fine.
@NateM94 Well, I hate to continue it forever, but it's entertaining enough for now =) To be fair, I should apologize for the insult. I do think your mocking/insults were uncalled for, but that's no reason to do it myself - especially if I wanted to have a civilized conversation. But hey, this is the Internet. I will agree that I didn't handle the situation correctly.
That said, I do think I made my original point fairly quickly. My first post (#65) stated that we weren't owed anything and that it wasn't unheard of for ports/re-releases to be launched at a lower price, which I think should have been the case here.
Regardless, my apologies for arguing in a stupid manner. However, if you would like to continue the argument, I'd be more than happy to do so now that we're on the same page =)
@roadrunner343 I'll admit I was waiting for a Nintendo specific example before I gave credit. Which in itself was an absurd yet aggressive tactic to use. As for the insults and mockery, looks like we have the same opinion. I'm still in the boat of thinking it's not reasonable to want a discount on the basis of already having it, but you have an example that hits every point I said would constitute as a real criticism so there's no need for this to continue past where it is now.
