Hopefully it won't be like the PS4 Pro version of the game which had a lot of struggles and greatly reduced the number of NPCs walking around the game, which made Night City feel very barren and empty. But I have hope.
I love how Nintendo's legal team will sue a teenager into oblivion, shut down something beautiful and creative that a fan made, and meanwhile over on the eShop, there are 200+ shovelware AI garbage games clogging up the new releases page every damn week.
Anyone know what performance is like on the Switch? It's on Xbox Series X too but having this handheld would be a lot of fun, but only if it runs well.
Don't sleep on Ravenswatch, it's from same developers who did Curse of the Dead Gods. Basically a Hades-esque roguelike. It's tougher and there's online co-op, but solo is just as viable. Only played a few minutes of the game but already love it. You choose from popular/well known folk-tale characters, Little Red Riding Hood, Pied Piper, Aladdin, Beowulf, set in a kind of fairy-tale multiverse battling demons and don't know too much about the story but there are monsters and its a dungeon crawler. Tough as nails but fun and rewarding. I liked Curse of the Dead Gods (also on Switch) but the story was a little generic.
Is now a good time to dive into this game? I always feel so overwhelmed when I consider jumping into this series because SOOO much is happening but I'm curious.
The sequel is awesome!! It's trying some different things and mostly succeeding in my mind. I've only played about 1 hour but already see myself losing hours of my life to this game (just like the first). The controls take some getting used to with much of the game being menu/party management, but playing in hand-held helps as the touch screen is a convenient way to get past some of that friction. But the more you play, the easier it is to fiddle with some of the UI stuff (which is the only real negative I can give to the game from my perspective). Happy gaming friends.
I think the UI for the menu and inventory for this game is what kind of sunk it for me. It's not bad per se, it just feels wrong somehow. I may go back and see how it plays in the future once a few more patches and updates are rolled out but it just felt kind of off.
Also, I think we're at peak cozy gaming/farm simulator fatigue. There are too many of these games and not enough of them are doing enough to truly shine.
Coral Island feels like it's actually figured out how to do Stardrew Valley in a way that doesn't just feel like its a themed skin, but the Xbox console release was a bit buggy, hoping that when it does hit the Switch down the road, that its optimized well.
Anyways, back to Baldur's Gate 3 for me, that game ahs consumed my life.
Playing Skyrim until TotK is released and then that will consume my life the way Skyrim currently does. Currently at Level 14 Wood Archer who is focused on archery & sneak. Trying something different this time. 😉
Did not like the gameplay at all when I played via PS4 Pro. Had a free trial and the movement and fighting in the game just felt floaty and light and all wrong. It wasn't buggy, it just felt odd and in such a way that I was not going to get used to it. Hard pass on this one. But glad that its being ported, just wish this was a better game.
Picked up Dying Light on sale and really impressed with how well it runs and how good it feels to play in handheld on the Switch, a phenomenal port. Highly recommended for anyone who has been considering picking this up. It's < $10 and you get a ton of content to play.
I've been enjoying this game (despites its high difficulty), but with that being said, I do wish it had some accessibility/custom modes in the way that Hades does. It'd help lessen some of the early frustration. But still very pleased with my purchase. Highly recommended.
@Nanami_Ataraxia It can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but push on. Once the loop clicks, it really gets going and everything vibes. There's SOOO much to tinker with in this game but it all works really well. Very pleased despite being kind of bad at the game so far, but that's the joy of a rogue, you ALWAYS have another run waiting and can improve.
So I'm the only one playing The Last Spell, kind of surprised. Tactics, roguelike, base-building, mild tower-defense, & a horde of demons and wizards and stuff. It's a lot to balance at first but the game has a very addictive loop that makes you want to keep on going back for more. Highly recommended.
Wargroove (and Pathway shoutouts to @bozz for reminding me that game exists) are both awesome tactical/strategy games. My only criticism is I recall the difficulty spikes pretty rapidly. Here's hoping the sequel is a bit easier with its onboarding before it ramps up the difficulty.
I've only played about 10 minutes but wow is this a beautiful game!! I know many reviews are out there criticizing the way the game balances its combat vs its social, but setting that stuff aside, it just FEELS good to be in this world, everything is bright and shiny!! I have no regrets. Runs butter smooth on the Switch.
Giving me Nuclear Throne type of energy but I'm excited to see where it goes. Dead Cells is a phenomenal game and one that they continue to support and innovate upon. Cannot wait until this hits the Switch. I'll be patient.
@ketrac If you've not considered Monster Hunter Stories 2, you should, it has that narrative/story focus that might line up with what you're wanting. It's apparently solid and a more chill version of MH.
My wife is a huge fan of this game, her favorite game and today is a little bit like Xmas morning.
While you don't have access to the full creation club/modding, there has been a graphical overhaul, new alchemy, cooking, foraging ingredients, fishing, and a bunch of new homes you can purchase and end-game quest-lines.
There's a lot of content and while it sucks to pay Todd for the 8th time for the same game, there is a lot to this 'Anniversary Edition'.
Just throwing that out there for those who are on the fence. You are getting a better Skyrim experience on hand-held with the update.
@YoshiF2 THIS. I bounced hard off of Octopath b/c it just felt so much of the same lather, rinse, repeat with all the characters and there was this lack of continuity and/or convergence that felt hollow. Also why I have stayed away from Project Triangle Strategy (ugh, this name!). But I am looking forward to this demo and I've heard the stories do actually come together in a unique way. So fingers crossed.
Looks fun but I have TOO many games like this already that I'm not playing. Maybe on a sale some day, but not in a rush just yet for this one. Looks fun for those who do have the space for this in their rotation.
I would also like more options for audio setting customization. Toggling off sounds or music and/or adjusting the volume of each of these settings independently.
Pokemon, Elden Ring, Kirby, Horizon Zero West....now this!! Pour one out for all of our wallets. I may skip on Pokemon in favor of Elden Ring and Kirby and Horizon Zero West. Those are my priorities, but god damn, too many games.
I love love LOVE the idea of this game but the platforming I saw in the trailer made me reconsider clicking purchase and I'm glad I held off. That's not to say that this game can't improve or get into a version that is worth playing, its just not there at the moment. Will keep an eye/ear out and maybe this will get some post-launch love or an expanded revision that corrects all of these flaws and disappointments. Never say never.
I think the update is amazing and even on the Switch it's a pretty decent build. I know it's not the same and its technically a smaller game with reduced chunk size, draw distance, etc. But its still kind of amazing that this game runs so well on a hand-held device. Playing on the couch or in bed is such a convience.
The Nintendo eShop is sad. Like getting excited b/c they added the barest minimum of convenience. Normally I'm pretty chill about stuff but Nintendo is so lacking when it comes to how they setup their online shop. No themes, no folders, a very basic search function. They really need to invest in their eShop. It's so dated.
This game is my favorite video game of all time. It makes me smile any time I pick it up. And each and every run is unique and different and a surprise. It is my forever game. I've unlocked maybe 50% of the game and I'm so excited that I have so much more to look forward to. <3
@moodycat Bah, you don't need to apologize for wanting something easier or less stressful. I wish more games had that. It doesn't take away from the base game or people who want to play it that way, but some of us don't have the time to 'git gud' and just want to play a game and forget about the world for a few minutes. So totally feel you on wanting that option.
Wish games had more accessibility modes like Hades, Celeste. Sometimes you just want to fly through something and feel overpowered. Other-times you want the challenge. There's room in gaming for both.
@lokozar I suspect this may be an entry point for many of us who haven't played the other games in this universe, so probably not. It might make references to things we're not fully in the know about but doubtful that it's a requirement. I'm going to pick it up at some point this week and see if it clicks. I love this universe, I have just always struggled with MOBAs. Their card-based battler Legends of Runeterra is also something I'm interested in but have bounced off of a few times. Maybe third time's the charm and this will fit.
Is this a good jumping-in point for the LoL universe? I've bounced off of their card based battlers on mobile and PC. But single-player campaign is more my jam. Hoping the story won't be lost on me.
I've sunk about 600 hours on Binding of Isaac on the Switch, another 200 on Steam. This is such a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it but the week just got so much more legit.
So many souls-likes getting updated with DLC, expansions, etc. Death's Gambit: Afterlife, Blue Fire, Blasphemous is getting some new DLC later this year. TOO MANY GAMES!!!
I am a huge fan of roguelikes but I sort of bounced off of this game. Enjoyed the gameplay but was having trouble with figuring out the meta of it all. But maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind, going to redownload and give it antoher whirl.
Too many roguelikes and soulslikes out, Death's Gambit: Afterlife is also out today, ack!!

I kid, I kid, this looks great, maybe on a sale. Too many other games and metroidvanias at the moment, but glad this genre continues to serve.
