We've got the latest sales figures from Japan for the week of February 21st to February 27th, and perhaps unsurprisingly FromSoftware's Elden Ring has taken the top two spots with both the PS4 and PS5 versions, achieving a rather staggering 278,507 units sold across both formats.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus holds its own, however, coming in at number 3 with a respectable 60,754 units sold on Switch.

I was thinking this was pretty impressive but then, is it really? Pokémon games always sell well (even the most critized ones), usually the most sold in each system. I'd like to know how well Arceus sold compared to previous games like SwSh
I wish Japanese gamers still have interest with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
That game looks good even on Japanese language.
It’s missing the lifetime total sales on the game charts.
@Anti-Matter It was a commercial success upon release 9 months ago and sold 1.1 million copies in just a short space of time. The biggest issue will be lack of consoles due to manufacturer shortages, but I would imagine sales have been trickling in.
Yeah, so far Elden Ring is amazing. Only managed to play it for like 16 hours since release, tho.
@sikthvash Ratchet and Clank games never had any serious legs, if it sold 1.1m copies within the first few weeks, it probably won't ever surpass 2m lifetime. Kinda sad, really, because it's a much more interesting game than "AAA Open Worlder #395". Unfortunately, most games don't have the trajectory of Nintendo 1st party games, and that's also why they get heavily discounted (and still don't sell much) a couple months after launch. Case in point, Ratchet has already been down to 25-30 quid here, and its launch price was 70.
It's should come as no surprises that Acreus is the top dog still.
Elden Ring- even on PS4- is absolutely sick. Love it. People have had issues with framerate/jank... honestly it looks and moves like Bloodborne, with which I've never felt unhappy. Maybe my standards are too low.
If FFXVI doesn't launch this year then Elden Ring will be the biggest launch on PlayStation in 2022. Well deserved.
This week's marks the launch of Gran Turismo, Triangle Strategy, Chocobo Racing, and Babylon's Collapse. Easily one of the busiest weeks in terms of notable releases, particularly from Square Enix.
@Troll_Decimator the £70 price tags on PS5 games is a massive hurdle. Still amazes me to see how 3-4 year old games on Switch consistently sell well, but then that's a testament to the large install base and quality of the titles.
That’s surprising that Atelier Sophie got higher sales on PlayStation over Switch.
I've been enjoying Elden Ring on PS4. It deserves the praise.
I see Eldin Ring on PS5 got a 100% attachment rate!!!
@Bobb As of these charts in Japan it breaks down as:
Sword/Shield 4,316,521
Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl 2,515,409
Pokemon Legends: Arceus 2,069,549
So Arceus will probably pass BD/SP, but won't come near Sword/Shield.
Its great seeing Elden Ring do so well as its fantastic and has the best open world since Red Dead 2 and BotW.

I'll wait to play Elden Ring on Switch 2. It would make a great launch title lol.
Legends Arceus is an amazing game that completely breaks the mold of traditional Pokemon games. I believe that people will be playing Arceus long after the next Pokemon comes and goes because there's just so much continued play you can get out of Arceus with it's open world design.
They could actually just keep releasing DLC for Arceus, and it would be fine in my opinion.

For once Minecraft is not in the top 10, Microsoft had failed.
@PBNightmare thank you very much! It seems like a fair portion of the fanbase skipped Arceus. That or too many buy the two versions of the mainline game
Wow Elden Ring managed to put Playstation at the top of the charts for the first time in months or even years?
@SwitchForce How is Elden Ring misogynistic?
@SwitchForce Wut?
If Elden ring doesn't boost PS5 sales... Then what will?
I guess this is the "problem" with releases of new games on current and last gen hardware. PS4 is more than powerful enough for most games.
@Cathousemaster that is every available ps5 for sale in Japan! You can't boost sales for something that doesn't exist to buy! Sony are prioritising the west and ship the majority there. Home consoles have been in decline in Japan ever since the ps2.
I guess our friends at Push Square won't pretend the Japanese chart doesn't exist for once lol.
@Serialsid not sure I buy that. You can make the same argument every week, without any evidence to back that up. And if sales are weak in other weeks, wouldn't that accumulate hardware to sell when a big title is released?
Let's see what happens when GT is released.
@Cathousemaster easy to back up! Go on any Japanese online store and see if you can order a ps5! What comes in sells out immediately, they aren't sat on store shelves. Same in the rest of the world, the semiconductor shortage is affecting both Sony and MS massively. Same as a lot of other industries like car manufacturers.
Chart won't be any different next week, GT7 will sell well but the hardware sales won't change. Personally think Sony know Japan is Nintendo/ handheld territory now so they ship the majority to Europe/UK/North America because home consoles are still very strong there.
@Cathousemaster was an article in the Japan Times this January, still impossible to find a ps5. To get one you either have to stand in line at a store, enter a lottery or try and get one online where they are gone in seconds. There are no weak and strong weeks, just what Sony decides to sell there! Software releases won't change that.
Interesting though that the ps5 sold 1 million quicker in Japan than the ps4, 43 weeks to nearly a year for the ps4! It's just looks worse because the switch is such a power house and a constant massive seller in Japan.
Hey @Olliemar28 do the charts not include lifetime sales for games anymore?
