So many classics have made a return on Switch but I won't be fully satisfied until Speedball 2 joins them.
The trailer for this couldn't look more confusing.
Amazing underrated game. Loved it on the PS2. One of a kind.
Really hope it gets a worldwide release.
Awesome! Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Rebirth) would be another I'd like to see, complete with all the PS Vita extras.
Oh my God! YESSSS!!! Out of all of the Vanillaware games, Grimgrimoire needed a second chance the most! I mean, Odin Sphere and Muramasa got remakes on the PS4 and Vita years ago, while this was left in the dust on the PS2. It's an underrated gem! Think of a time traveling Harry Potter-like story, with awesome characters and voice acting. It's got this 2D RTS style of gameplay with multiple difficulties, so its accessible to newcomers like me, but can be challenging for veterans of the genre. I HIGHLY recommend this one. I'll definitely be buying it.
EDIT: I just re-read the article...Japan only??? COME ON! 😫. It better come to the west soon.
Bach when I collected videogames I bought this one to have the full library of their games, but I never actually played this one... I'd gladly have them all available on Switch, even though it wouldn't be the first time they available handheld.
More Vanillaware games on Switch can only be a good thing.
I'll buy this day 1 if it gets localised!
I'll try the game if it is localized, though my usual experience with Vanillaware is being awed by the visuals while entirely bored with the rote gameplay.
Fingers crossed there is an English version on Play-Asia.
@DogDetective Big YES if that happens. Maybe NisAmerica will get to it first tho
I remember trying this game back in the day, but it didn't gel with me at all. If/when it goes on sale I might give it a second chance.
Rather have a port of Muramasa, to be honest.
I have the PS2 version so don't feel any loss by no western announcement, though I suspect it will come. Not expecting much reason to buy it full price though.
@Coalescence THANK YOU! I thought I was entirely alone with this opinion. They're clearly labours of love, but sadly I mean that for both the devs and the players.
Awesome! Never played it (what with it being stuck on a console I could barely emulate until last winter and all), but the OST is neat and the main theme is among my VG music favourites. Besides, Japanese RTS/RTT games are few and far between. Fingers crossed for the western release indeed.
I actually haven’t heard of this game, a late PS2 game. Looks pretty cool though and I like Vanillaware games.
Vanillaware is always welcome.
Really hope this comes out worldwide and bring their other games to Switch too. Vanillaware just feel right in handheld. Maybe I should double dip on 13 Sentinels to show support for their work. I'm just making excuses now.....
Fairly relaxed use of the word "classic."
Vanillaware is fully back on board, it seems.
You love to see it.
I played Muramasa, Dragon's Crown, and Odin Sphere on Vita, and, frankly, their stuff feels at home on OLED handhelds.
Ok someone has hacked my brain. I was saying a few months ago that I would like to see this on switch. Any chance of a muramasa port too? Either way I will be getting this day 1.
Please bring back Valkyrie Profile 2
This is great, but I still be my Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere fix. 😭
Still have my PS2 copy but all these QoL improvements sound good.
I remember enjoying Odin Sphere back in the day, although I don't think I finished it. I like the VanillaWare art style, and wanted to like GrimGrimoire and Dragon's Crown, but they just didn't grab me. Don't remember much about them, so may reconsider GG if this is released in the west, depending on the reviews.
Just bought this again for ps2. Vanilkaware's best game imho.
Pretty cool! My PS2 copy of this game is still sealed!
How did I miss this? More Vanillaware the better! Now please please PLEASE localise Princess Crown!
I will support this once it’s stateside if it means we will get Muramasa down the line. Not sure who owns the rights to it though
I haven't played this game but I have heard of it. It's gameplay would 100% suit the switch. Would prefer to play a game with this gameplay in handheld rather than a home console (where I don't think it would grab me). I'll need a review though.
Would love Muramasa....
@OorWullie Im gonna add Space Channel 5 and PowerStone on Switch too those!!!!!
@JnFnRu I'd welcome them both. Loved them on the Dreamcast. There's a chance Power Stone will be part of Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 but I somehow doubt it.
Good feeling to have those late-era Atlus games sitting around in the backlog for when I feel like tacling them.
I'd imagine they cost a fortune now.
Nice, never played this on PS2 originally but heard good things.
Would love to see VanillaWare's Vita releases make it to Switch as well. Would be a shame if those were stuck on Vita.
@GregamanX Their games are always announced for Japan first. Doesn't really mean anything.
@KingMike What Atlus games?
@OorWullie I was playing Speedball 2 on the new A500 mini just last night, what a great game.
@Lyricana Probably all of the late-era ones. Atlus had a history of putting out games for consoles after nobody else was.
So it was pretty easy to buy when they were the only new games for the older consoles I was still playing with.
I'm kind of surprised that Persona 4, it sounds like, ended up being the game that shot the franchise into mainstream. For a game released on a console going on eight years.
Though that might have been just after Sony dropped the price of PS3 to four hundred US dollars (and thus people starting to buy them).
@sirmrguitardude Ah nice one. The Amiga version has somehting the console versions 'couldn't handle', as my mate used to say. If I remember correctly, it's the ice cream guy. I had it on the Megadrive back in the day. I played it with a mate a few years ago and the two of us got so into it, it was like being back in the 90's.. It's held up really well. All the different scoring mechanics make every game super intense. It reallyneeds a modern online version. Rocket League is probably the closest there is. Which happens to be my most played game ever haha
@KingMike I think it wasn't Persona 4's original late life release that rocketed it into mainstream. As I recall, it was the Golden version that came out relatively early in the Vita life.
