The Nintendo Wii, now that's a console. No need for HD, 4K, HDR or gigaflops - Nintendo just shrunk and boosted a GameCube, added clever motion controls, then sat back and watched the world have fun.
It had some amazing games, and not just the usual contenders but also lesser known titles that are still worth playing today. One of our YouTube gurus Jon Cartwright decided to rattle through 100 amazing Wii games in just 20 minutes, which is a pretty neat (and time-sensitive way) to get all nostalgic about the little system.

As someone who has spent the last months hunting down Wii games on ebay, this will be an interesting watch. Maybe I’ll discover some more hidden or forgotten gems that I need to add to my list. I love the Wii, it has such an amazing library of games! 🙂
I will always treasure the great and holy wii
I like these types of videos but would highly recommend you show gameplay in the background instead of just the box arts.
The Wii. That and the N64 were my least favorite Nintendo consoles of all time. Ready for the downvotes.
If you close your eyes, it sounds like Alex.
Medal of Honor Heroes 2 deserves to be on here (in place of CoD). The online was great and it really perfected motion controls for FPS games at a time when other games were really struggling with it.
(Sorry to do the classic annoying comment of complaining that a list is missing something.)
@kingbk Actually, I completely agree with you. By far my least favorite Nintendo systems.

@eltomo Thank you
Wii has so many incredible games. Plus, the Wiimote was so inviting for play. Pointer controls have never been this good.
My favorite on the list probably are Batallion Wars, Boom Blox, Deadly Creatures, DKC Returns, Dr Mario, Excite Truck, Ghost Squad, Épic Mickey, Goldeneye, House of the Dead Overkill, Kirby Épic Yarn, MadWorld, Mario Kart, Mario Strikers Charges, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Muramasa, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Okami, Pikmin, Prince of Perdia Forgotten Sands, Rabbids Go Home, Red Steel 2, RE 4, Sim & Punishment, Silent Hill, Sonic Colors, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Smash Bros, Super Paper Mario, Trauma Team, Wario Land Shake It, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Zack & Wiki, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Link's Crossbow Training.
Not on the list: Punch-Out, Need for Speed Nitro, Trauma Center, Trauma Center New Blood, Jett Rocket, Fun Fun Minigolf, FAST, Art of Balance, Nyx Quest, Dive and many others.
How did he miss Punch-Out on the list?
I’m surprised they put Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and Deadrising Wii on there but not Pandora’s Tower, the Kirby Collection, or Punch Out!
Hm, why aren't Pandora's Tower in the video? Great game!
The Wii had some of the most unique titles I'd played in years at that time. Nintendo did some of their best 1st party work on the platform.
So when Wii games become hot, like Gamecube has, and the prices explode, like GameCube has, I'll already have most of them. 😂
Good video, gameplay footage next time please!
@kingbk Even though I couldn't disagree more if I tried, you'll get no downvote from me, but we might as well call you Jon Snow...
@kingbk
For me the Wii is a great console with wasted potential. N64 is a good console but now the Switch is my favorite outside of the DS
Great to see Another Code get a mention, there's no other game quite like it, at least not with this kind of budget. It's the perfect game when you need to unwind and just think, well, until the later half of the game.
I'd love to play Excite Truck on Switch.. Dog Island wouldn't be bad either.
Strangely I never got in to the Wii. We had one, but I never really dove into the library much. I loved my GameCube. Love the Switch.
@Zidentia I wonder what you think was wasted potential with the Wii. I'm not knocking the system, I quite like the Wii. But with it's huge library with many great games that make use of the motion controls in many different ways, I think the Wii's potential was completely fulfilled. Now the Wii U, that was wasted potential. Even Nintendo themselves quickly gave up trying to do anything creative with the Wii U's unique hardware.
@kingbk The Wii had far better 3rd party exclusives than the Switch though. Like it's no contest.. In terms of 3rd party, the Switch only really shines when it comes to indie titles.
There are a lot of interesting first party exclusives on the Wii as well. I think those types of games would do much better on the Switch so I wish Nintendo would experiment more.
@roboshort I will agree on that. There haven't been many third party exclusives on the switch outside of Mario+Rabbids and Monster Hunter Rise (which will be out on PC next year). I also think that's a "sign of the times" as most third party exclusives now are timed releases that eventually make their way over to PC and other consoles.
@Zidentia That's a good way of putting it. My gf (now wife) had a Wii and the only things I ever enjoyed playing on it were the Mario Galaxy games and Virtual Console. I can't stand forced motion controls. Wii Sports was fun for about a week until the motion gimmick got stale.
@ThanosReXXX haha, thanks ThanosReXXX.
I started playing Little King’s Story.
Amazing game!!
I highly recommend!
I'll remember forever how much Madworld bored me. I got it, then traded it in not long after 🤣
Great video! There were a few games in there I haven't heard of. Tetris Party would definitely make my list. Being able to get a few people to try, and inevitably fail, to beat a top level bot is too funny! You can put yourself and a few friends on one team, sending all your cleared lines to one single CPU player, but the highest level CPU player in Tetris Party is just incredibly fast and precise...
@kingbk You're welcome. Just out of curiosity, though: not a Rare fan then, I suppose? Their hay day was on the N64 after all, and seeing as you did not like that console, I was wondering.
@eltomo No. No, it absolutely doesn't sound like Alex if you close your eyes. Alex and Jon have insanely different voices. Unmistakably different.
I'm not sure there are even 10 "amazing" games on the Wii, let alone 100. I'd say there are maybe 5-6 amazing games, a few dozen good games, maybe 50 decent games.
Pandora's tower, Project zero iv, Punch Out, Elebits, Dewy's adventure, Geometry wars galaxies, Final fantasy fables: chocobo's dungeon, The sky crawlers, Rodea the sky soldier, Kororinpa...
@TheFox
The motion controls were really not utilized as they expected and they were so many other things they could do that rarely were used in games. The Wii U was the answer to some of those issues. Which of course they failed to market correctly.
I loved the Wii but Wii sports and a few other games were probably the only ones that used most of the Wiimote features. They had a new controller coming out which was an improvement but it was canceled.
@Deltath It sounds like Alex, just with the bass boosted, and with Jon talking very loudly over him, and Alex on mute.
@Maxz 🤣 Touche.
@ThanosReXXX I think Rare has some good games, but (in my opinion) they have been overhyped as this amazing video game creator for a long time. Battletoads I find to be perhaps the most overrated game of all time. Just way too difficult to the point where it's not even fun. Goldeneye was fun with friends, but I never got into the single player mode and it's really hard to play and enjoy today. Banjo Kazooie was fun. I do love the Donkey Kong Country series, so I will give them credit for that. I preferred RC Pro AM as Rock 'n Roll Racing, a better version of basically the same game from Blizzard. So again, Rare had some good games.
@kingbk Oh, well. Fair enough. I personally don't think that all of their titles are great, let alone perfect, but their track record is rather solid, looking at it as objectively as possible. The fact that Microsoft wanted them so bad is already proof of that reputation.
Besides the games you mentioned, which I also liked (and agreed by the way on most of the ones that you didn't, except for GoldenEye, which I enjoy to this day, both in single and multiplayer), there were quite a few more great and/or highly entertaining titles such as Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, Banjo Tooie, Jet Force Gemini, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Blast Corps, Killer Instinct Gold, Killer Instinct 2 and Mickey's Speedway USA, so I'd say there was something there for everyone.
And that's just Rare. Nintendo themselves also had quite a few stellar titles on the N64, as did Kemco, Acclaim, Eurocom, Konami and Namco, so personally, I have VERY fond memories of those days, and every now and then, we grab the old N64 out of the cupboard, and then have some fun with all these classics.
I love the Wii, it has a great library on its own and additionally the launch model is fully backwards compatible with GameCube games, making the selection of playable games on it superb...
On the other hand, the Switch is my least favorite Nintendo Console:
The complete GUI is so bland and boring, it's somehow missing this quirky Nintendo touch (playful GUI, background music, a personality)
I don't know how it can be some people's least favourite Nintendo console when It has some of the best games of all time. I enjoyed it's library much better than the Wii U atleast.
